Ke$ha Goes Platinum

Published: Monday 27th Sep 2010 by Sam

Pop rebel Ke$ha certainly has cause for celebration this week. ‘Animal’, her debut studio album, has been certified Platinum.

Full story below…

The set, which boasts hits such as ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Blah Blah Blah’, was last week certified Platinum by the RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of America), for (anticipated) sales of 1 million. Current sales  of the LP, which was released in January, stand at 946,700; yet the certification was likely based on the fact that it will certainly sell through the remaining shipment.

—————————————————————–

Love her or loathe her, on many a level this is an impressive feat for Ke$ha. Critiqued for being just another ‘digital singles’ artist, the certification separates Ms. Sebert from the pack of similar labelled acts who – for all their success – still can’t shift any albums (see: Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, etc).

What’s more, microwavable music or not, the 23 year old writes her material (unlike the Rihanna‘s and co), which means she is personally racking in the $$$ from both her single sales (which are sky-high) and her album sales.

She may not serve up much of substance, but credit where it’s due – she’s doing it big and looks set to do it even bigger. A re-release of ‘Animal’, featuring new productions from the likes of Dr Luke and Bangladesh, is set to hit stores later this year.

Kudos to Kesha!

  11. Baron September 27, 2010

Wow, actual positivity and credit where it’s due. Seems to be a first for TGJ! I agree, Ke$ha’s momentum has been undeniable, and no one can knock an artist for achieving platinum status with their first album these days. Good for her. I hope she finds a way to make the “garbage chic” (her words, not mine) theme last for a couple more albums so she can rake it in.

Further proof that the music industry has gone to the dogs! Ke$ha is the most generic of the bunch. What a sad day for lovers of true music.

  19. ADE September 27, 2010

Kesha is an abomination. And I refuse to use the dollar sign in her name.

  20. Kyle September 27, 2010

Oh geez, I remember when I listened to snippets of this album when it first came out and I almost cried because it sounded so bad. But I’m not gonna lie, “Blah Blah Blah” is one hell of a catchy tune. Congrats to her though! Not many people can go platinum nowadays so she is definitely proving herself.

  21. FUTURESTARdelux September 27, 2010

LOL WHY DO TGJ PRETEND TO BE A “REPUTABLE” BLOG? WHAT “REPUTABLE” BLOG CHANGES PEOPLE’S COMMENTS? #FAIL

  22. aries_BLU September 27, 2010

    Congrats I guess?

  23. KraveZu September 27, 2010

@FUTURESTARDELUX How did they change your comment?

  24. FUTURESTARdelux September 27, 2010

@KRAVESU YEAH THEY DO IT ALL THE TIME WHEN I CALL THEM OUT, ESPECIALLY FOR COPYING.

  25. Landen September 27, 2010

    Keysha Doing her thing with

Writing her music. If I was an

artist signed to a major label,

I’d definitely be writing my own

Songs on my albums too. Screw

all that giving out my money. F***

    That….

  26. Dunster September 27, 2010

Just! I thought that it went platinum ages ago due to the hype.

  27. Hadley September 27, 2010

Sooooooooo what. It’s only Platinum. The Fame has gone 3x Platinum and has sold 3,800,000. Well on it’s way to 4x Platinum.

GO AWAY KE$HA. WE ALREADY HAVE ONE ELECTROPOP/DANCE POP DIVA. WE DON’T NEED YOU. F*** OFF TRAMP B****

  31. La’wayne September 27, 2010

I’m not the biggest rihanna fan but I don’t understand y dude always talk s*** about her but he ALWAYS postin s*** about her like he stalkin her….f***** loser lol

  32. Rancor September 27, 2010

Ke$ha is garbage, and you know it. Don’t try and play devils advocate by saying…”hey, at least she writes”…”hey, at least she does this”…”hey, at least she does that.” No. No. And no. We all know so good and damn well that this talentless android and her uber-BS songs epitomizes just about EVERYTHING currently wrong with the music industry. She’s trash, her music is trash and her fans (if she has any) are idiots.

As for her…:::laughing:::…”going platinum” goes, am I supposed to be impressed that it’s taken her damn near a YEAR to see this RIAA certification — while she still hasn’t yet actually SOLD 1,000,000? Because I’m not. Get back at me when this airheads album goes 3 or 4x platinum. I couldn’t be any less impressed by her single platinum certification.

  33. MUSIC LOVER September 27, 2010

Her music lacks substance, but no one can deny her music is catchy and sticks to your head. That is what sells today whether you like it or not!!! So congrats to her!

  34. CHOMBE-) September 27, 2010

ok we get it @RANCOR but please its only been 8 months she has been out with her album! and may i remind you SHE IS A NEW ARTIST!!!! that makes so little promo but yet her singles are everywhere! WOW! So please CAlm down! yes its your opinion but just because we should calm down on the name calling! and thats on the US!! W.W she has probably sold already 2-3 million all together! SO byeBYE

  35. ugh September 27, 2010

i don’t care for Kesha but i like Rihanna’s music. however, switching up words in a song does not mean she wrote it.

  36. KraveZu September 27, 2010

    @FUTURESTARDELUX Oh wow I didn’t know that’s messed up.

  37. JAYLA September 28, 2010

    Guilty Pleasure: Ke$ha! Maddd???

  39. CONVERSATION CHAMBER September 28, 2010

Just like the Spice Girls in the late 90s, and Samantha Fox/Stacy Q a decade before that, Ke$ha is just a fly by night pop tart; her music is mindless, disposable airhead pop for flighty young girls and their queeny gay friends. Her, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga will fizzle out by the time her fans get their cherries popped and come to their senses.

    Check out:

  40. FUTURESTARdelux September 28, 2010

    @KRAVESU, YEAH IT SUCKS.

@JAYLA THE ONLYT REASON I COME TO THIS “BLOG” IS TOO READ THE COMMENTS, IF I WANTED NEWS BEFORE IT WAS COPY & PASTED I’D GO ELSEWEAR. I DON’T HOWEVER APRECIATE HAVING MY COMMENTS EDITED JUST BECAUSE SAM OR TRENT DON’T LIKE THEM…

@CONVERSATION CHAMBER, DONT PUT THE SPICE GIRLS IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS THOSE OTHER TRAMPS, HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN THEY WERE OUT BECAUSE EVERYBODY MY AGE WAS MAD ABOUT THEM AT THE TIME AND STILL LOVES THEIR MUSIC TO THIS DAY. THERE IS NO ACT TODAY THAT IS AS BIG AS OR HAS HAD SUCH AN IMPACT ON POPULAR CULTURE AS THE SPICE GIRLS IT WAS MADNESS, LIKE THE BEATLE MANIA OF MY GENERATION.

    *100M RECORDS SOLD.
    *5O+M ALBUMS SOLD
*MOST SUCCESSFUL/HIGHEST SELLING GIRL GROUP EVER.

    YOUR FAVES COULD NEVER…

  41. CONVERSATION CHAMBER September 28, 2010

The Spice Girls were flaky trashy. I was a teenager, and IN the age demographic they catered to at the time, and even back then I knew they were a bunch of b******* and despised everything about ’em. They were annoying, bratty, corny, obnoxious, throwaway fluff pop just like Ke$ha. And like Ke$ha will, they were a fad that faded into obscurity once people found another crack pipe to smoke.

You’re right, my “faves” could never act that way…because if they did, they wouldn’t BE *my* faves, because I tend to not go for lame s*** like that.

LOL@you comparing them to the Beatles. Beatle-mania still exists to this day. Spice Girls, in the meantime, are VH-1 “I Love The 90s” trivia fodder.

  42. GROW UP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!! September 28, 2010

    TEAM RIRI

  46. FUTURESTARdelux September 28, 2010

@GROW UP PLEASE!!!!!!! THE OTHER BLOGS I GO TOO WOULD NEVER EDIT YOUR COMMENTS JUST BECAUSE THEY MENTION COPYING FOR EXAMPLE…

@CONVERSATION CHAMBER, OH YEAH THE SPICE GIRLS ARE SO IRRELEVANT THESE DAYS THAT A COUPLE YEARS AGO THEY SOLD OUT A WORLD TOUR 10 YEARS AFTER SPLITTING 8ICLUDING 17 SOLD OUT DATES AT THE 02 ARENA LOL

  47. what? September 29, 2010

Derulo is no where near gold in the states…Dude ain’t even at 300,000..LOL

  48. Rihsus September 29, 2010

dead @ someone throwing shade @ the Spice Girls.
They obviously weren’t the best of musicians but it’s Pop. Fun, carefree feel good Pop and they were great at it and they sold f*ck loads of albums and if they decided to return to tomorrow it would be massive.
    #sitdown

Congrats to her too I guess. dead @ her outselling Christina.
