I don’t give a damn about album sales. I care about the quality of an artist. I don’t like excuses from POP stars when they have albums that don’t sell. I don’t like when people misidentify a cute girl with a dope image and a unique voice as ‘the second coming of jesus’ and ‘a great talent’ or ‘a great singer’.

I don’t like it when people try to use sales to justify their favorite singer, but bash another as a flop. The fact is: Sales are a measure of a Pop-star, not quality of music. You know why? BECAUSE THIER FUCKING GENERA IS POPULAR MUSIC!! POP-ULAR….AKA lots of people like it….so they are measured by how much they sell.

She’s not an alternative artist. She tried to go in a direction that she thought would sell, and it didn’t. There was not artistic quality to that album, and no artistic reason for making it. She didn’t even write most of the songs, she didn’t compose the music, she doesn’t play an instrument and she doesn’t even dance. So where is the art in that?

The fact is she had a moderately successful album, but nothing stellar. She’s never had high selling albums and she had a flop tour. Her next album may do better, because she’s still popular. She had two top 10 hits and a number one hit off an album that didn’t even sell to well. So, she has staying power.

That’s real and honest.

Let’s say you release an album and it’s ACTUALLY SELLS. And you win a lot of awards for that album. And you go on a successful tour to promote that album. You’ve just had a great moment. What a diva does is takes that great moment and does it over and over with more than one album. Rihanna has only had success with one album. When Mariah Carey fell off and came back she had a career to comeback to. Rihanna will be trying to this in 3-5 years from now but it won’t work because she didn’t shit the first time around.

Obviously Rihanna’s isn’t vocally spectacular in anyway shape or form. She would probably get laughed out of the American Idol audition room, but it is not fair to compare Rihanna’s vocals to Beyonce nor even Ciara. In order to find the triumph in her performance you must take the performance in its proper context and think of its intended audience. Her audience, her stans, the people who pay to watch her sing horribly and not REALLY dance all seemed to love it and that’s all that matters.
