Shontelle ‘No Gravity’ Debuts At…

Published: Wednesday 29th Sep 2010 by Sam

This week’s numbers are in, and it’s not looking good for Shontelle. At all.

Find out where the Bajan songstress’ new LP ‘No Gravity’ charted and how much it sold after the jump…

According to the ever-reliable Hits Daily Double, the album has missed the Top 50 of the Billboard 200 entirely (#53 to be exact), selling through less than 7,000 copies in its first week on sale.

This will no doubt come as a blow to the singer, who saw the record’s lead single ‘Impossible’ certified Platinum just a few weeks ago.

In any case, the video for its follow-up ‘Perfect Nightmare’ looks set to debut any day now.

———————————————————–

With the album being surprisingly quite good (and hands-down better than some of the other releases higher on the chart), its sales are rather unfortunate. One can only hope the project finds success in other territories (it’s due for release here in the UK in November) or does a Jason Derulo (aka, terrible album sales, yet consistently high-charting / selling singles). Time will tell.

  3. KAT DELUNA FAN September 29, 2010

  6. Areis September 29, 2010

she sucks!!! and ugly i dont like her, scary spice Mel B. sounds better than this dumb t-shirt girl. I knew it was impossible for you to even sell 10k.

  7. Beyonslay September 29, 2010

BEST SONG OF 2010 FOR ME (IMPOSSIBLE) YOUR FAVES COULD NEVER! AMAZING SONG! SOO DISAPPOINTED, BUT IMMA BUY A COPY HERE WHEN IT GETS RELEASED IN THE UK!

IT DID BETTER THAN HER DEBUT, INNI?

  8. Carly September 29, 2010

Hopefully it’ll do better in the UK. Such a shame that after a positive start with “Impossible” people just weren’t confident enough to buy a whole album.
I also blame her label for not getting her any TV promo. they could have easily have got her on some especially since “Impossible” was a hit.

Sam, you should post that “Impossible” hit the top 10 in the UK peaking at #9 this week. She did this with practically no TV/Radio support. When her song debuted at #10, she wasn’t in the top 50 in the radio airplay charts or tv airplay charts – that is definitely a feat!

    Noooooo!!!Poor shontelle
She didn’t deserve This flop at all
I really hope She won’t be a female version of Jason deruuuulo

  11. GangsterA September 29, 2010

ah that sad i bought the album and its amazing betta luck next time

  12. ~AalexisR~ The Summer King (The Bahamas) September 29, 2010

The album was pretty good. Promotion was not enough. More tracks should have been on it too. Her cover was not interesting either. I bought it physically and the pic on the inside is much better.

  13. Rihsus September 29, 2010

    Gerl……
    Not surprising tho.
Impossible was a luke-warm hit in the US they should’ve released the 2nd single + the album much closer. I mean how the f*ck you gone release your lead single in February and release the album in September. Not to mention how basic that album cover is.

  14. delroy September 29, 2010

im glad that some one mentioned that when it got released here in the UK cos i remember looking at itunes thinking what the hell, as there were no promos. i think that it’s a shame when some one as good as her has no promo but if she was doing the whole electro thing from the start which i guess she will be doing with her next release they would of promoted her like hell. welllets see what they plan to do now.

  15. Lioness September 29, 2010

damn…she didnt get any PR people probably didnt know it came out or who she is..just a name

  16. WHITE JESUS September 29, 2010

the video for impossible could have been way better but oh well.

  17. LEEK September 29, 2010

Shontelle is signed to Universal Motown, she like Kelly Rowland will not be a major priority as long as Cash Money/Young Money continues to release material. By the end of the year Wayne will release 2 LP, Drake has a platinun LP, Nicki Minaj will ship and possibly sell 500,000+ copies. It’s a simple equation of the top earners will get more promo and attention.

  18. Areis September 29, 2010

    @ Rihsus

this girl is just a FLOP U.S. is just not feeling her, we already have a bajan rihanna do we need another one

  19. Otis September 29, 2010

it’s her stupid-ass label not promoting her that are to blame!
she has the talent, people just haven’t had a chance to see it.
this album is amazing, and she’s an incredibly talented artist who deserves so much more than the little credit she is given.

  20. Robier September 29, 2010

    Oh so sad

  21. truthfully September 29, 2010

7000 wow, now that’s a flop…I didnt even know her album was out….well guess she aint no rihanna.

  22. goats suck September 29, 2010

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn i knew it would flop but not this bad LOL! DAMN

  23. ADE September 29, 2010

LOOOOL how dreadful! Poor girl can’t catch a break! 😀

  24. stan September 29, 2010

i didn’t even realize she has an album out

  25. DANBOFFICIAL September 29, 2010

THIS SOME SAD ISH SHONTELLE, LIKE I SAiD BEFORE YOU PROB FEELIN SUICIDAL, DONT BOTHER CALLIN THE FLOP HOTLINE THO CUZ KELIS AND MICHELLE WILLIAMS STILL ON THE OTHER END, IMMA PRAY FOR YOU MAMA !!!

    *WHO OWNS THE THRONE?*

    *YOU DO MOMMY!*

  26. HMMM….. September 29, 2010

Wait, who is surprised by these numbers? Why would she or anyone else believe she would move more then 7,000 units? It is indeed unfortunate considering this girl can actuallly sing. There is a new dance track by her I actually heard today that really sounds good! She is not one of the industry favorites i.e. Riwhore, “Kan’t” Sing Perry, or Auto-tune Ke$ha. She was never going to receive the promotion the others have. By now I think everyone understands the industry’s game. Any song can reach #1 on the charts they put ppl wherever they want them to appear. It doesn’t mean that they are going to support them!

  27. KAT DELUNA FAN September 29, 2010

She is a single artist like her Lordliness the Barbados’s Goat

  28. ~Team Weezy~ September 29, 2010

I had no idea her album was even released already. ABSOLUTELY NO PROMOTION! Impossible is an okay song to me, but EVERYONE loved this song (white and black people). I heard this song EVERYWHERE I went, especially in department stores of the mall. They should have really took advantage of the success of that song because I’m sure she would have done a WHOLE lot better!

  29. Areis September 29, 2010

oh lord people really feel sorry for her, please…. she just need to throw a t-shirt on her face and go away she straight BORING

  30. geishagirl September 29, 2010

LMFAO@her selling worst than Kelis and she had a big hit on the Billboard HOT 100.

  31. MUSIC LOVER September 29, 2010

I actually like “Impossible.” The rest of her songs aren’t that great, and with no promotion, it’s no wonder she sold so little. I definitely think she is underrated though.

  32. MrIncredible September 29, 2010

This is a result of poor promotion and a poor image. Shontelle has got to get her image together if she intends to sell. Her music is actually quite good but she simply does not have a fanbase bc nobody knows her personality or a single thing about her other than that she is Bajan.

  33. Mr.727 September 29, 2010

^^^^^No the reason she is not selling is because she is not bringing it to the music scene with full force!! People are tried of seeing a talentless pretty face!! People are not going to waste money on dumb ass auto tune, techno pop b*******!!! Kiddies keep thinking these so called new people are going to impact the music buzz, cuz real talent is starting to be the main focus for people who want quality!!!

Stop trying to make her happen!!!

  34. harvey September 29, 2010

First of all the album was sold out and monday did you know how hard it was for me to get a copie of No Gravity…but Its THE STORIES FAULT because they aint even reshelved the album till today so yeah but hopefully by next week it will get high high numbers…the promotion wasnt that bad.but she aint went on wenndy willims to promote it just jimmy kimmel.

  35. Kyle September 29, 2010

Not great, but she shouldn’t have been expecting anything super great. I feel like she just isn’t marketable when you have Rihanna. I know in the interview she said she feels that her and Rihanna are very different, but from just an ordinary music listener, they probably feel like she is a rip-off.

  36. Kevin September 29, 2010

yep she needs to hit the TV.

  37. IKNOWTHETRUTH September 29, 2010

I FEEL BAD FOR SHONTELLE BECAUSE THE ALBUM WAS GOOD AS IS HER VOICE. I FEEL THAT HER LABEL, A. DIDN’T PROMOTE WELL ENOUGH, ESPECIALLY WITH HER BEING NEXT TO OBSCURE IN THE INDUSTRY, B. ANOTHER SINGLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED, AND C. THE DIDN’T STRIKE WHILE THE IRON WAS HOT. THE ALBUM SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED WHILE “IMPOSSIBLE” WAS STILL HUGE ON THE CHARTS. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RIGHT TIME. RIGHT NOW IS THE WRONG TIME BECAUSE EVENTHOUGH SHE’S LESS TALENTED, RIHANNA IS COMING OUT AND SHE’S GOT A BIGGER FOLLOWING AND SHONTELLE EVENTHOUGH I LIKE HER MORE IS SEEN AS THE GENERIC RIHANNA OR RIHANNA LITE. SHE’S LIKE THE KNOCK OFF VERSION TO SOME. BEYONCE IS ABOUT TO COME OUT AGAIN, LADY GAGA IS OUT RIGHT NOW AND THERE ARE MORE POPULAR FEMALE ARTISTS THAT THE WORLD IS LOOKING AT RIGHT NOW. BUT MAYBE SHE’LL HAVE A TURNAROUND LIKE LADY GAGA AND MELANIE FIONA DID WITH THEIR ALBUMS. YES I KNOW I’M TALKNIG ABOUT THREE DIFFERENT ARTISTS AND THEY’RE BOTH MORE TALENTED AND INTERESTING THAN SHE IS BUT YOU NEVER KNOW BUT I THINK THAT A RE-RELEASE WOULD BE IDEAL WITH SOME STRONGER SINGLES. HOPEFULLY SHE FAIRS BETTER IN THE UK BECAUSE THE US ISN’T FEELING HER ALBUM RIGHT ABOUT NOW. THE US ISN’T THE END OF THE EARTH SO HERE’S HOPING THINGS TURN AROUND FOR HER BECAUSE I DO REALLY LIKE HER AND HER ALBUM. WHATEVER THE CASE SHE AND HER TEAM BETTER GET IT TOGETHER QUICK BECAUSE THEY’RE ALREADY ON ALBUM #2 AND SHE’S NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER. SHE’S 25 AS IT IS SO THEY BETTER GET DOWN TO BUSINESS. BUT HEY THINGS TURNED AROUND FOR TREY SONGZ RIGHT? YES I KNOW HE’S GOT THE S** CHARGE GOING FOR HIS CAREER BUT THAT DOESN’T TAKE AWAY THAT THE GUY IS TALENTED AND HAS PUT OUT SOME PRETTY CATCHY STUFF IN RECENT TIME. MAYBE IF SHONTELLE PUTS OUT MORE CATCHY MATERIAL SHE’LL HAVE SOME MORE SHINE. I FEEL THAT SHE’S BETTER THAN JASON DERULO AND CAN HAVE MORE THAN JUST SINGLES DO WELL FOR HER. SHE BETTER DO HER BEST TO CHANGE PEOPLE’S MINDS ABOUT HER BEING NOTHING MORE THAN A RIHANNA RIP OFF BECAUSE THAT’S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY SHE’S NOT SELLING RECORDS. THAT’S KIND OF WHY KELLY ROWLAND CAN’T SELL RECORDS, BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE BEYONCE COMPARISONS. GET WHAT I’M SAYING ANYONE?

  38. xtinaveinbiotch September 29, 2010

I haven’t even heard of her until she dissed xtina, well shontelle sucks to hear u only sold 7,000 at least xtina sold more then that at least hopefully next time on ur end you could se?ll more. I don’t think dissing xtina was gonna help u sell some copies.

  39. IKNOWTHETRUTH September 29, 2010

BY THE WAY HER ALBUM COVER IS CHEAP AND TACKY LOOKING AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED ONLY FOR THE INSIDE OF THE COVER AND PACKAGING AND NOT THE OUTSIDE, OR AT LEAST FOR THE BACK. THE “IMPOSSIBLE” COVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED BECAUSE IT’S BEAUTIFUL AND WOULD HAVE MADE A GREAT ALBUM COVER. UGH HER TEAM IS JUST NOT GOING TO BAT FOR HER LIKE THEY SHOULD. THIS IS ALL WRONG. THE RIGHT COVER WAS USED FOR A SINGLE. HER ALBUM COVER IS JUST NOT OKAY.

  40. elleuk September 29, 2010

7,000 copies for real? did they selling it by foot or from the back of her cousins car in barbados???
i honestly cant believe it. its a shame but thats life not everybody can be great.
i think she would have done better if she had stuck to her orginal reggae pop songs, rolll it with j status ad rihanna was the tune in my freshman year.

  41. UGh September 30, 2010

oh no. the girl is so talented. I feel bad for her.

the label didn’t promote the album. this is what’s laking promote, promote, promote. Shontelle also needs to change up her style a bit. starting with that darn hairstyle. She needs to appear everywhere, i mean everywhere. She should take some tips from Rihanna since their good friends. i really feel bad for her 🙁

  42. theman1 September 30, 2010

Her single Impossible’ even tho it was successful came out long ago, it was to long between singles and the album. There was no promo, live performances or anything.

  43. Beysbetter September 30, 2010

    DEAAAAAAAAAAAAADDD!!! @ 7,000 copiess

  44. iLoveXtina September 30, 2010

LMFAOOOO ROFL DIES RESURRECTS AND DIES AGAIN

There’s a bright, wonderful future in burger flipping for her

  45. KD September 30, 2010

Well RIP Shontelle, I would have written a eulogy but your musical career has been a total shambles from day one, that I would totally be grasping at straws.

I guess that the lead single “IMPOSSIBLE” was prophetic. It was just IMPOSSIBLE.

  46. kelvin October 1, 2010

I really feel for her. She wanna be successful but she jst aint there nd she’s still trying
Sure she aint rihanna nd cn never be as successful but if she tries she can achieve sumn
    Goodluck

  47. flexer October 5, 2010

I agree with CC. I think her album sales are low because very little people know of her. She hardly makes any TV appearances on any big shows. I only know of her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel that’s about it. Her marketing people are not doing her any justice. I think her style is fine and her she makes cool pop music, but it’s just she’s not making enough public appearances here in the States. I thought she would of improved from the first album but it’s like she’s still stuck. The people behind her has to take it to the next level.
