“Stomp, stomp, I’ve arrived” declares newcomer Jessie J on her enigmatic new single ‘Do It Like A Dude’. And arrived J has – in a major way.

The critically acclaimed vocalist has the industry abuzz as she preps her debut LP ‘Who You Are’ for release next year. The UK-bred, US-based singer is currently plugging ‘Dude’ ahead of the premiere of its accompanying video.

  9. Jeremy Danté October 10, 2010

fuckn MONEY!!!! she goes in everytime.

  10. elleuk October 10, 2010

I still don’t get the hype, yes she has a nice voice but the way the post was presented I was expecting the 2nd comming of chaka khan. nice voice, but by no way unique or extra speacial.
as for the industry buzzing part, just because you are buzzing sam doens’t mean the industry is. no hate but i have heard literally nothing on this girl on music blogs or magazines to suggest such as buzz exists. i just wish she would come out with a song ilike, as im always routing for u.k acts to go big, but this song i can do without in my life.

  11. iLoveXtina October 10, 2010

I had my doubts but damn that was good. That pic is not flattering though!

  12. RealMusic October 10, 2010

She’s a beast. I hope she blows up

  13. magdalena October 10, 2010

her talent is off da hook! I am so lookin forward to her debut album

  14. Kevin October 10, 2010

Too bad she’s gonna be seen as swagger jacking Gaga

Only so many talented phenomenons and can come out in such a short amount of time.

  15. NICOLE COLA October 10, 2010

    YES YES YES real talent!!!

  16. AuntieJackie October 10, 2010

    THAT B**** CAN SANG!!

  17. Tiff October 10, 2010

This girl can sing her tail off!

    Love her..she is so fab

  18. Tiff October 10, 2010

    @ Kevin

I kind of agree with you…Fashion wise.
But her music is sooo much different than GaGa

I love Jessie’s voice. She just needs to get with the right producers and she will blow UP!

  19. DION-ISH October 10, 2010

    @DANBOFFICIAL

ROFL….I Cant @ you calling her a wigga ..havent heard that word in a while

    ___

Anyway, Next gaga Perhaps?! They have the same demeanor, style etc IDK

  20. Kross October 10, 2010

OMG I love her…every since you all posted the studio version of this song I listen daily….she is truly talented! This song sounds very good acoustically…5 stars! Love it! ^_^

  21. Dunster October 10, 2010

She can sing, she has a nice voice, i like this version of the song better (m** please) but it takes more than that.

She better hurry up and release music before she ends up writing for Cher Lloyd.

  22. Li October 10, 2010

How in the name of Jesus do you put Jessie J and Gaga in the same comment… Jessie J is NOTHING like her, look over all of her work today…. Do your research or shut the f*** up…. Go to her website http://www.jessiejmusic.com and listen to her song Who You Are… She is one of the most NATURAL vocal talents and an songwriters the UK has seen in a very long time…

  23. I’MJUSSSAYIN October 10, 2010

I aint even gonna lie…I was NOT expecting this. This biatch can SANG! Close your eyes and listen….you would never think this was a white girl.

  24. Dunster October 10, 2010

Colour has nothing to do with singing, if you can do it you can do it! JoJo, Pink does it and Stacie Orrico does it.

What gets on my nerves is when people cant do it and get praise

  25. Dunster October 10, 2010

oh, i forgot Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse and even Pixie Lott… to name a few

  26. Ugh October 10, 2010

The song is going to be a hit. Her voice is off the hook!! I hope she doesn’t go the Lady Gaga route, we something different.

  27. Ugh October 10, 2010

    *need
and i love me some Gaga but there can be one

  28. True Blue October 10, 2010

When I first heard the single, I had doubts about her vocal abilities, but it’s nice to know that I’ve been proven wrong. She does deserve to blow up, whether she actually will is another story, though. Although I hope this decade in mainstream music will favor talent over image for once in a long time.

    @ Dion-ish:

    I like your Madonna gravatar!

  29. DION-ISH October 10, 2010

    @TRUE BLUE

    Thanks bb!! 🙂

  30. vegasgirl October 10, 2010

Hip Hip HOORAY!, this is what i’m talking about. She has a fantastic voice, ridiculous control and I didn’t hear any pitch issues. I love her vocal style. She is a real singer who is sooo confident in her vocals that she can easily change it up ( melody, etc.) and still sound great. Really hope she BLOWS up in the states, hell everywhere. Hopefully this will usher in “SANGERS” so that a few in the mainstream won’t have to hold down the fort by themselves.

There is nothing reminiscent of Gaga in Jessie J at all! Two completely different artists with 2 different sounds -period. These Brit chicks are bringing some fire! ( still waiting for the next Amy Winehouse CD)

  31. Tosh October 11, 2010

Omg!!!!! A white artist that can sing!!!!???? Shes better than any Black!!!! If this was beyonce i would find something wrong but since shes white i think this is THE BEST PERFORMANCE IVE SEEN ALL YEAR!!!!! You know how master is always better than us. Yessah!!!

  32. MC October 11, 2010

@ Tosh, Tesh (whatever the f** your name is)

Go sit your uneducated a$$ down somewhere. Y’all ni99as h8 racism; always crying about the ‘next guy’ being racist towards you. You hypocrites are no different than that ‘next guy.’

  33. Dave October 11, 2010

Yeah @ELLEUK U must be a hater. She don’t have to be a Chaka Khan, she slayed in her own way. & the vocal runs was crazy!

  34. CURLY SUE October 11, 2010

I love the song!!!! Her voice is really nice and her accent tops it off <3

    "Who You Are" is amazing!

  35. Miss Chick Boom October 11, 2010

@Tosh that was an ignorant comment. If you can sing you can sing. Race has nothing to do with talent.

But anyways she has a great voice.

  36. Mari October 11, 2010

    @Tosh

I see you. i got the joke.

  37. Zazaro October 11, 2010

Omg so maybe gaga Do have comp ????? I’m seeing alot of potential here….two thumbs up

  38. elleuk October 11, 2010

@ dave just because im not ridding this chicks d*** im a hater?
if you would have read my comment you would see that i said sams post exaggerated her vocal ability so as i was listening i was expecting a lot more than what i heard. i want to route for her as shes from the u.k, but i have heard better vocals and the song itself does nothing for me.
its unorginal and it sits too well next to the other bass heavy autotuned songs the radio for it to make an imapct on me.

now please show me how im hating by stating my opinon, as everyone on this page has done.

  39. antertain October 11, 2010

    Goooooo Jessie J

She can do loads with her vocals and is very edgy. She has always reminded me of Pink in some ways from the early days and she’s on the right track going in that direction with her own spin.

For you who doesn’t think Jessie J has any industry hype JUST becuase you haven’t seen her in magazines need to check who’s she written songs for!!!

Chris Brown, Xtina Aguilera as well as writing Mylie Cyrus’s Billboard No.1 single “Party In The U.S.A” and Justin Timberlake etc…

    GIRL CAN SANG!!!

  40. Teflon Boy October 11, 2010

I have no issue with white acts singing rnb but it makes me uncomfortable when they use typically jamaican/black patois…, she might as well have called the song ‘Do It Like A Black Dude’…, because last time I checked ‘brother’ meant black guy and ‘Man Dem’ was jamaican vernacular…, therefore the song is about a black guy a white girl is trying to emulate, no? That not make anyone else uncomfortable?

  41. AuntieJackie October 11, 2010

    @ Teflon Boy

Yup, it makes me a little uncomfortable too…but I don’t think it’s offensive.

  42. elleuk October 11, 2010

@ telfon it does makes me cring with embarrassmet a little, not because of race but beacuse of culture. even when u.k m.c’s rap with american accents I cringe.

  43. Sarah October 11, 2010

what is the difference between this and like a boy by ciara?

  44. Tiffany October 11, 2010

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t wait for her album to come out

  45. dyndyn October 12, 2010

    she has a nice voice…raw talent. i can appreciate…

@teflon yeah…just a bit cringeworthy now that you mention it…

@sarah…jessie can sing…that’s about all lol

  46. Tosh October 12, 2010

    @Mc, Miss Chick Boom
Yessuh!!! Is aplogize fo offendin yall but i cant help but to lift up my voice when i see someone white doing something creative and widely aprpaised!!!! That gul sung like she was on life alert. But all them black illuminati worshipers cant get my vote. You know Mc, Miss Chick Boom and the rest of us slaves love us some white meat. I cant wait til Lady GaGa’s ew song comes out…..

  47. 4JESSIE J October 13, 2010

LOVE LOVE JESSE J THIS GIRL CAN SING. I don’t like the lyrics to this particular song but no doubt she is the most refreshing when it comes to vocals this time next year people will know who she is watch this space. UK are surely r standing up.

  48. BlkBubbaWitBlueeyes October 15, 2010

She is not FULL WHITE BTW
Her mother is white and her father is biracial/mixed, this makes her a quadroon.
Some of you are sooo ignorant!

  49. Joan October 17, 2010

I like her voice, but those lyrics are full retarded.

  50. lissa freshist October 19, 2010

jessie you’re amazing!! can’t wait to see you at yoyo’s on thursday night!!!!

  51. Shaun October 20, 2010

She sounds soooo much better live. Love this rendition.

  52. musicman November 19, 2010

her debut song “do it like a dude ” is available on itunes at midnight this saturday.
    love you jessie 😀

  53. Darren December 18, 2010

    @ MC

Sounds to me as if YOU’RE the uneducated one. Or perhaps YOU’RE just plain racist. Is yours the response of a sensible person? No. Now go learn the difference between racism and bigotry. Blacks (not n—as) can’t be as bad as the next guy, simply because they don’t possess the institutional power to affect other guy’s life the way the other guy can!

  54. Narin avid January 10, 2011

Just to let you know, she is not white!

Her mum is but her father is of a mixed race.
    Look at her features closely!!!

  55. Charm February 26, 2011

I think that Jessie J is amazing! And for the record, her mother is white and her father is bi-racial…not that it should even be a topic anyway…smh
Nonetheless, she does have lots of soul. You can look at her features and tell that she is bi-racial. Why does everything have to be about race anyway?

  56. BK_Malik April 16, 2011

LOLOLOL….all of the Caucasians rushed to claim she was better than any Black singer without doing any research into anything but her complexion. Too bad, you can’t claim this one, go back to GAGA!!!

  57. Chloe April 19, 2011

Well she is 3/4 caucasian so i think we can claim her… majority wins

    • Rebecca October 28, 2012

stfu…one of the dumbest fkn comments ever

  58. Neigeme June 24, 2012

A quarter this 3/4 that. If she was a criminal none of you all would be fighting over her. Be happy that she’s a BRITISH youth with a heart condition working her Ass off and is making it. Don’t try to own her, learn from her example.
