Where has Carey been hiding that voice during the last few years?? This performance was agile, powerful, controlled and laced with her signature vocal flourishes. Not to mention Patricia’s robust operatic rendition which took this song to a completely different level.
This record can be described as nothing short of glorious. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Carey just took every other singer to church and made them kneel at the alter. I’m going to need help to get off this stage. O sweet glory.

Marc Shaiman vs Walter A. – I think Mariah finally found a pop producer that rivals Walter. Marcs orchestrations were INCREDIBLE!!!
Vocals – Haven’t heard vocals like this since Butterfly this consistently on one album. It always came in a song or two on the albums after that but from top to bottom Mariah lays the vocals out. Even the whisper tone is pretty and not airy and unfitting!!! Whenever it was used it was perfect!!

Mariah has been recording MCIIU since June, you troll. I can almost guarantee you that she saved those amazing vocals for her Christmas album. You’re only saying the song sounds copy and pasted because of how amazing she sounds. I know. You can’t believe it.
I actually think the duet with her mom sound pretty cheap. First off it does not sound like a duet, it sounds like her mom’s part was pasted in, like they were in two different recording sessions and threw the 2 vocals together, very cheap. Mariah’s voice sound very airy and weak, not strong at all.
I actually think the background and layering vocals sound better than Mariah. The whistle notes sound far away as if they are technically enhanced. And much of her belting sound like they are digitally added on. I think most of you are hyping up something that is very deceiving.
Too much hype from this blog, and not enough deliverance. The only song I like is One Child, cause it is the only one that doesn’t sound as vocally enhanced.
I give the album a C. She will NEVER pull these songs off live w/o lipsinging most of it. Mariah’s voice is not the gem that it once was

^Just to add on. I was fooled by her voice too. For the longest time I thought my CD was scratched during her song “Butterfly” when she sang “flutter through the sky” at the end. Now I know that she makes her voice skip like that to emulate fluttering butterfly wings lol.

I am very aware of how great her voice was during her prime and when she first came out. Sadly, her voice is nowhere near that quality live now. It hasn’t been in over 10 years. She lost that richness that she used to have and her belts sound very thin, she cannot hold a live note longer than 3 seconds without chopping it up or while using vibrato. She cannot belt with her upper register remotely the way that she USED TO. I have studied how dramatically her voice has changed, I know what I’m talking about. You, on the other hand, are merely a fan in denial.
It’s the truth. She’s a studio artist now. You can deny it and talk s*** to me until you’re blue in the face, but that doesn’t change the facts of the condition her voice is in now. Sorry.
