Trey Songz made a promotional appearance on ‘The Mo’Nique Show’ last evening. The far from humble entertainer performed his current singles ‘Can’t Be Friends’ and ‘Bottoms Up’ from his ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’ album’.
Songz also took part in a short interview where he discussed how he managed to remain so “authentic” as an artist. Check out all the action below:
Didn’t Songz already admit that he started making more generic, sexually oriented music just to get a hit? I guess he has a completely different idea of what authenticity means.
Then again, he has been authentically copying R. Kelly in the last few years. He has been authentically singing off-key in almost every live performance of his newer material. Finally, let’s not forget how he has been authentically becoming more self-absorbed with each passing success.

I use to really like Trey , but he has become so cocky with his fame. It seem like to more shows he’s on the worst his voice is becoming. Every time I hear him sing lately all I can picture is Prince face!

He sounded aiight. Y’all love to hate. And the album selling well. Mad? When he first came out, everyone thought Trey could sing. He’s underrated and all that. He’s trying to expand his vocal range. He’s struggling with it, but he’ll get there. And CBs failure had nothing to do with Trey’s success. GTFOH. 2 different artists.

Do not think Trey writes any of his own stuff, its mainly Troy Taylor that produces his signature style… Mario Winans wrote and produced “Cant Be Friends” I think.
The performance was painful to watch.
I have no major dislike for the guy, in fact I like some of his songs!
Simply, he is not that talented. Going on tour with Usher will EXPOSE THAT EVEN further.
You ask why?
– As youve watched, Trey cant really sing live, Usher can…
– Trey cannot dance, Usher can
– Trey takes off his top, well so can Usher!
Trey will be waving his hands to the crowd and it will be Usher’s turn to then blow him away with multiple hits over YEARS IN THE GAME for a reason… True talent!
Really do not understand why he is going on tour with big players in the game, he is showing himself up and really trying to grow his fan base on others merit (i.e. Jay-Z and now Usher).

Actually, I listened to both songs without watching and ….it sounded good. Not great as Chris Brown would have done with the songs but it was very good.
When I look at Trey, he looks like he’s in labour, struggling with the notes. Btw he’s always saying he struggled to get up there, everybody struggles, Trey, get over it already, you’re rich now!

You all are horrible! The first time I saw him live, it amazed me that he sounded so GOOD live, which is why I continue to support him. All artist can be mediocre at times. To my knowledge, he had just come off two performances before Monique’s show – 106 & Park & the Kodak event. Can a person be tired? He prob needs to take a break. Ok. He’s human, but no one can take away his talent. Whatever your beef is, hang it up b/c Songz is defnitely NOT a studio artists.

Not one of Trey’s better vocals but he is talented R&B singer.
His vibe doesn’t come across as humble or smooth enough for a lot of people but i just guess it just that type of energy he has had growing up.
He does need a bit of refining but i think it’ll happen in his 30’s
I have seen Trey Songz in concert twice and he definitely can Sing Live!
However, the problem I believe is that he goes into the studio and lays down these vocals in all these falsettos and other notes “OUT OF HIS RANGE” that he can prob hit once but can not consistently hit EVERY PERFORMANCE or EVERY NIGHT DURING A CONCERT and this is what you get. In my opinion he has two Options:
A) Learn from Beyonce and record lower in the Studio so that you can play with arrangement and vocals of the song when performing it live.
B) Take a page from Usher book and lower the key or notes when performing it live.
Either way glad to see him performing with a band and trying to display some type of emotion or performance technique when singing as oppose to just standing in one place with a backing track. I guess baby steps but I still feel he should’ve waited til next year to release an album because this material is sub-par and the album sounds rushed at best even though i do like both of the 1st two singles.
