Christina Aguilera visited ‘The Ellen Degeneres Show’ recently to promote her new movie, ‘Burlesque‘. The vocal powerhouse performed a cover of Etta James’ ‘Somethings Got A Hold On Me’ from the film’s soundtrack and took part in an interview with the comedian. Look below for all the action:

I must admit that Aguilera’s version of this song has grown on me since hearing it the first time around. There is a grit and passion to her voice that is clearly lacking in most of today’s imitation singers. Furthermore, I am impressed that she could handle this live given how coarse her voice has been sounding lately.
It seems that Aguilera is most comfortable when she is belting to the limit and that is why she sounds more natural singing tracks like these than most of the records on her ‘Bionic’ LP. Hopefully, however, she doesn’t plan on screaming on every song from now on. Her voice (and my speakers) can only take so much.

Some of the best soul singing she’s done (actually done, not that other mess), but she seriously needs to watch for that voice. Soul is more than just injecting screams.

Why you guys gotta drag Mariah into this? Don’t even start, because I could show you some amazing songs and performances that would prove your point about Mariah’s voice wrong. She’s been singing for over 20 years non stop. Mariah’s been releasing and promoting a new album almost every year of her career, so she has a reason to have a vocal decline, and she has nothing to prove.
That being said, I loved this performance from Christina, and love her voice!
I think people got so focused on saying Bionic was a flop, that they completely overlooked songs like Lift Me Up, Stronger than ever, You Lost me…. And her performances have been good enough. Just because she can’t sing Fighter the way she used to, doesn’t mean she lost her voice. That song is just super hard to sing. I hate people that jump on the bandwagon and say s*** that’s not backed up!

Please do not bring Mariah into this. That woman is a Vocal Goddess. Untouched basically. Mariah sounds about as great as she did on her new christmas album as she did during the Daydream era, at times she sounds even better. Mariah is a helluva vocalist, and she can do everything few far and in between. Quit hating. Xtina did an awesome job. She’s a great vocalist. Mariah has a ton of spectacular performances.
