In one of the few instances of 2010, this song actually matches the hype. Rihanna’s vocals work well with the melody and Minaj delivers inspirational lyrics in her usual energetic fashion.
If the rest of the album includes records like this then Minaj has a excellent piece of work on her hands. Female rappers have a lot to prove, especially with their debut albums, if they wish to truly be accepted in the game. With that said, it seems that Minaj is about to make a strong entry like Eve, Missy Elliot and Lil Kim did before her.

I’m speechless. This the best I’ve heard from EITHER one of them.
Nicki reminds me SO much of Eve. Missy and Kim are more fun rappers that make songs that are about s**, dancing, fun, drugs, crime, etc. Eve did that too but Nicki is like Eve to me with the relationship focused and retrospective songs.
I’m the biggest Rihanna stan around and I’m not feeling this or the album that much.
It’s kinda nice still and I think it will grow on me a lot… its my least fav Rihanna collab though
Trent’s commentary had me hype for this…but this was boring. Fell flat for me. Did nothing.. A little dry, and RIhanna’s vocal was bland. OH well.

Eve and Nicki? No. Eve has WAY more depth and emotionally themed lyrics than Nicki! Eve’s lyricism is FAR superior to Nicki. Nicki is more generic than any other female rapper. She doesn’t rap about much she just has a unique delivery. She is more POP and mainstream than hardcore and authentic as far as her image and lyricism.

Um…it’s OK. It’s a decent album filler. Not exactly what I would expect from the two of them. I figured they would produce a hot club banger, but this is pretty mellow and definitely nothing you can dance to.
Rihanna sounds decent but Nicki’s verses aren’t much to scream about. The chorus is the best part of the song and that’s kinda bland. IMO.
I can’t see it as a single, but I wouldn’t be surprised it did well if released. Anything can go No. 1 these days.

Its funny people complain that music particularly mainstream rap/ rnb music is so shallow these days but they dont support it when it isnt. Thats so backwards. Everything doesnt have to be a dance record. Dance records are rarely classics.

I said nothing about image and I know the two are 100% different, I’m just saying that, in the direction Nicki’s music is appearing to take, that Nicki reminds me more of Eve than of Kim.
I’m not expecting this to be a super emotional album anyway. I heard the album, and it has a great balance between her fun songs talking about how great she is and her money, and then she has uplifting songs about her childhood and her determination.
I don’t think it’d be smart to go all out emotionally with a debut album, anyways. Maybe in the future it’ll be a good idea (2nd album?)

I think the same thing. The album, i’ve heard it, appeals to the pop, urban, rap, R&B, and even dance communities. It’s such a versatile album and it has a lot of personal songs balanced with her “I’m so rich and an amazing rapper” type songs too.
I really love “Here I Am” and “Save Me”. I’d love a rap version of Rated R for her second record though. That’d be amazing @TrueBlue and @AmazingLee.

I knew you weren’t referring to image, you’re referring to their music and that’s exactly what I’m opposing. Their music and lyricism is totally different, I only included image because it’s a replica of Nicki’s music as well.
I’m not sure if you were strictly referring to just Eve’s single choices from her second and third album but her albums are way different than anything Nicki has done so far, especially Eve’s first album, which was her most raw album! Nicki’s direction of music seems to be going a completely different direction than Eve’s, more into the mainstream and pop direction rather than Eve’s approach which was substantial and emotional with a mix of hardcore. And image has nothing to do with that, I’m referring strictly to the music and lyrics, however it’s obvious Nicki’s image is very gimmicky!

It’s strange that she keeps mentioning the huge success of her mixtape when she’s using a total different formula now. On her mixtape, she was raw. Not to the same capacity as Eve but she was raw. Now she’s doing pop, funny voices, different accents, and her lyrics make absolutely no sense quite often. I listened to the leaked album and honestly, the only stand out track to me is save me. She Should not be compared to Missy, Eve,LIL Kim, and sure as hell not Lauryn Hill at this point in her career.
