Video: Oprah Interviews Michael Jackson’s Family

Published: Tuesday 9th Nov 2010 by Sam

Oprah Winfrey‘s eagerly anticipated interview with the family of the late, great Michael Jackson aired in the US last night. The episode saw the chat-show queen speak at some length with Jackson’s mother Katherine, who opened up about raising him, his vitaligo, his image issues and plastic surgery, his marriage, the day he passed on to eternity, and so much more.

Subsequent segments featured candid discussion with Jackson family patriarch Joseph, as well as with Michael’s children Prince, Paris, and Blanket.

Having already expressed my initial cynicism about Oprah’s motive’s for the interview. Find out whether they prove true after the jump…

Wow. Intriguing in every sense of the word. While I remain somewhat pessimistic about Ms. Winfrey’s overall objectives here, the Jackson family presented both themselves and Michael in a manner which the media would have folk believing was non-existent.

Indeed, poise, grace, and elegance ushered in every answer to the sometimes suggestive and opinion-laden questions from Oprah. Not to be entirely ‘downed’, Winfrey – as she has become renown for – essentially asked questions many have sought answers for for years. Hence herself deserves kudos (even if her probing  at times alluded to certain things).

A great watch.

  4. royalkev November 9, 2010

This was a great interview. There’s seems to always be more to learn about MJ. He was a very interesting person! Those children do seem very normal and Katherine is doing a heck of a job raising them! She is a wonderful human being and I see why her family have always been blessed. she’s instilled in them the ability to holding on to their faith and be resilient as well as kind and humble. God bless her!

Oprah is such a hound. Mind you when this man was alive she was like the rest of them poking fun at him but now she hot to interview his kids. She’s such a phony. I used to be huge fan of hers until I realized just how much of a cad she really is.

  6. UGh November 9, 2010

Does anyone else notice Prince’s vitiligo? He has it all on his neck. I hope it doesn’t bother him as much as it did MJ

  7. scotty November 9, 2010

Erm.. I love the Jackson 5 but there is no way they’ve sold anywhere near 250 million albums.

  8. daboss8791 November 9, 2010

THE INTERVIEW WAS VERY GOOD P.R. FOR MICHAEL JACKSON’S IMAGE. I THINK IT WAS DONE FOR TWO REASONS, ONE TWO SUPPORT KATHERINES BOOK, AND TWO TO SHOW THE WORLD A DIFFERENT SIDE TO MICHAEL. KATHERINE IS VERY DEFENSIVE OF HER SON, EVEN STANDING UP TO JOE! LOVED WHEN SHE TOLD HIM TO JUST ADMIT WHAT HE DID. MOM LOOKS GOOD FOR HER AGE, WONDER IF SHE HAS HAD ANY WORK? SHE WAS ALSO FORTHCOMING, ADMITTING SHE FELT LIKE HE HAS MORE PLASTIC SURGERY THAN WHAT HE WOULD CONFESS. PARIS IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. I SEE HER BEING A FAMOUS ACTRESS ONE DAY.

The interview was great, just wonderful with fake a** Oprah.
Oprah did do a good job with her fake a** self.

The children are smart all of them. Those children are not blood Jackson, but the do love the Jackson family and they do fit in very well and they do love Michael Jackson very much.

I feel so sorry for those children, all the money in the world can not replace happiness, they seem to be happy, the future has a lot of bad news for them to bare.

    RIP MJ!

  15. B November 9, 2010

That was really touching!!! I have questioned Oprah’s new found love for MJ myself, but I thought this was EXCELLENT and really showed him in a positive light for once.

Katherine Jackson has got to be the strongest woman!!! Many prayers go out to her.

  16. Blue Kid November 9, 2010

    @ B

I agree with you! Katherine Jackson was the love of MJ life and I can see why, he would have thought of his mother to want her to be taken care of well for the rest of her life.

  23. J_ Nova November 9, 2010

Prince and Blanket defintely hate Oprah. Although Paris could see right through her..

  24. floridagirl November 9, 2010

I have to agree his children are something special and very well spoken to be so young. Ms. Katherine kept it real when Joe didn’t but overall I wish the Jacksons the very best.

  25. Sabrina November 9, 2010

I was definitely getting choked up. Wow this is really emotional.

  26. Soulful Roses November 9, 2010

AWWW…bless those kids hearts. God bless them 🙂

Loved the interview. Just wish someone else was doing it. I cant stand Oprah…

  27. antertain November 9, 2010

Loved the interview and Oprah asked very good questions.

Always have that memory of Paris turning to Aunty Janet at the memorial and Prince huggin her as well.

Katherine is beauty and a real momma and told her husband to keep it real lol.

    Overall excellent

  28. Bee November 10, 2010

Interesting interview. Oprah seemed a bit aggressive and slightly insensitive at times – it’s part of the job though.

They all seem that great kids. Wish the best to all of them.

  29. Bee November 10, 2010

    *like

  30. Anne November 10, 2010

I think the insults about Oprah are silly. Business is always business and never personal. Oprah understands that better than most people and that’s part of why she is where she is today. She is just doing her job and doing it well. I enjoyed the interview/show.

  31. ELLA November 10, 2010

LMAOOO I noticed MJ’s 3 did NOT take to Oprah one bit. All the other cousins were excited to see her and those 3 were like “Yeah whatever”
MJ was a good daddy. Can’t deny that. Katherine is a beautiful person and Joe…no comment.

    @ANNE

Oprah’s comments after MJ’s death were as “personal” as can get. She always talked s*** on him, therefore expressing her PERSONAL opinions in a professional environment.

  32. ms v November 12, 2010

lmao i love that. basically asking do u remember the white michael or the black michael

  33. Barbie November 15, 2010

I loved it when Paris said Michael cooked for them all the time. What a cute image that conjures up in my head. Bless. 😀

  34. DeBorah November 16, 2010

I am proud of Oprah Winfrey for becoming the very successful person she is today,
in spite of the pain she endured growing up.

This interview let Michael’s family, talk about the good in him, but it also made his Mother and Children, relive the pain and grief they’re experiencing.

In Orpah’s defense interviews with the not so famous and famous people is what she does very well and is one of the main reason’s she is successful today.

I’ve heard a lot of positive and negative comments about Oprah, but in the end, what really matters is a person’s deeds and like Michael, Oprah has done a lot of good deeds

Before you continue to be so critical people, ask what have you done for the world lately?

People are dying from Cholera in Haiti, Men and women are dying in wars, people are dying from A***, Children are dying by the minute in the Sudan, and you still sleep well.

Oprah it really doesn’t matter if you get every interview right or if someone disagrees with the interviews you do. Just keep holding your head up and enjoy answering your calling.
