Soundz Shouts Out That Grape Juice

Hi Soundz how are you?

I’m doing great man!

You’re still a relatively new face in the industry. Tell us a bit about how you got started.

Usher Raymond gave me my start. He signed me in 2006 with a record I did. I did a beat for Once Chance called ‘Look at Her (Ft. Fabo)’ and that was my first placement; my first shot. He gave me my first publishing deal.

You’ve worked with several high profile artists in recent years including Usher, Rihanna and Ciara. Which record was your first big break?

Usher of course! I did the Usher/Beyonce/Lil Wayne ‘Love In This Club (Part 2)’ and it shot to #7 on Billboard so that’s my biggest record thus far.

Speaking of Ciara, you contributed several songs to her recently released ‘Basic Instinct’ album such as the single ‘Gimme Dat’. What was it like working with Ciara?

Ciara is a sweetheart. She’s a hard worker – she doesn’t come into the studio glammed up; she comes into the studio ready to work; she’s one of those true artists. She’s professional and one of the last traditional recording artists that we have that is still young.

Everybody else is on a new school way of recording but Ciara says “no I want to get it right. I should do as many takes as it takes to get it right”. She’s cool and she’s a good person as well. From day one, ever since we first started working, we’ve been staying in contact pretty much almost every other day. She’s a really cool person.

That’s great to hear! Well, as you may know, Ciara faced a lot of criticism when she experimented with a more Pop sound on last year’s ‘Fantasy Ride’ album. Do you agree with the critics who accused her of abandoning her Urban audience?

I wouldn’t say that. Everybody wants to try new stuff – that’s change and evolution is inevitable. Sometimes you just need the right direction. If you do anything that isn’t in the same spectrum of how you should be then the fans will sometimes look at it as an offensive thing like “this is not the person I’m used to hearing” and they won’t support.

At the end of the day, ‘Fantasy Ride’ was an album that people didn’t get but there were definitely some songs on it, at least when I listen to it. On this new album [‘Basic Instinct’] I wanted to make sure that when I worked with her that I gave her nothing but Urban, bass and heavy. I didn’t want to do anything that wasn’t club-knocking because that’s where I think she should be.

Another artist whose album you worked on this year was Rihanna with the song ‘Skin’. On a scale of one to ten how would you rate Rihanna as a vocalist?

{Laughs} Man…Rihanna? As a vocalist? I think the way she killed that record – ‘Skin’ – honestly I’d give her an 8 or 9. She brought the demo to another level so I’ll give her an 8 or 9.

I don don’t know how she is in the studio because I actually haven’t gotten the chance to work with her. She has her own vocal producers so I don’t know how she is in the studio. I haven’t even met her yet. I heard she’s cool.

That actually leads me into the next question because many people assume that since Rihanna doesn’t write or produce most of her songs that she is merely a puppet. Is there any truth to that or does she get knee deep like Ciara in the work of the creative process?

You’re killing me man {laughs}! No I wouldn’t say she’s a puppet. She definitely has an opinion of what she likes. My record was actually one of the records that weren’t slated to make the album and Rihanna really loved the record. At the end of the day, she had to love it for it to make the album.

So she’s not a puppet; she has a mind of her own. She is busy, though, I’ll tell you that. Sometimes you need a team to help you make decisions and you just have to trust your team at that point.

Moving on from Rihanna…You’ve been speaking a lot on Twitter about your recent recording sessions with Kelly Rowland. What type of sound are you creating for her (R&B/Urban or Dance/Pop)?

Wooo I got her first single! We’re definitely Urban/crossover to the Pop. At the end of the day, I think Urban is Pop. By that I mean when people try to emulate Pop then it just doesn’t work but when you stick Urban and do something that’s original then people flock to that so that’s what I want to do with her.

I want to put her in her own lane because people try to put her in shadows but Kelly Rowland is a force of her own so I wanted to give her the kind of record that defines her. She had a lot of success with Destiny’s Child and she shouldn’t have a problem coming out with a big album.

How many songs did you do for her album other than the first single?

We’re still in the process of closing the album so I don’t know which tracks that are going to make the record. I know for sure that I did 3 with her this week and she’s in love with the records but things still have to go through the process – she has to like it, A&Rs have to like it, Sylvia Rhone [President of Universal Mowtown] has to like it, then after that it has to get mixed then they cut the cheques and all that. ‘Make Believe’ is the first look for Kelly Rowland in 2011.

Are you willing or able to share any song titles with us?

Just look out for ‘Make Believe’. I just left a meeting yesterday and that record is on the top; it’s getting mixed this week because it’s that important; the record is that big.

I think it’s going to be one of the biggest records of the year [2011]. I can’t even tell you the featured artist on it but it’s going to be one of the biggest records of the year.

Kelly released ‘Commander’, which was done by Rico Love, as the projects first single so does this mean that the entire project has been revamped with a new first single?

Definitely. Shoutout to Rico Love because we were both signed to Usher back in the day so that’s my dude. The ‘Commander’ single didn’t really stick so I think that’s the reason why we went back to the drawing board to figure out the kind of records that would stick to the audience.

She has a great voice, she has a star quality and she’s beautiful but she just doesn’t have records that stick to your bones – that’s the only problem.

Now, one issue that Kelly has had over the years is that she has a hard time making an impact on the US charts and one main reason for that is because she faces constant comparisons to Beyonce. How are you planning to help her to finally find success on her own terms?

Actually, Beyonce is so great that it’s to a point that Kelly could be overlooked but Kelly is awesome. When I work with artists in the studio that can really sing, record and be professional, Kelly is one of the greatest. She’s been in the game for a long time – 15 years since Destiny’s Child has been doing it. She even has that poise; she’s prepped for superstardom!

When I was recording with her that she’s damn near flawless so if any chick in the game that should be #2 to Beyonce it’s Kelly – if you want to put it that way. They both came from the same place and Beyonce is the best right now, and the best after her should be Kelly Rowland. That’s the kind of records that I wanted to give her.

She shouldn’t get the Beyonce reject records or records that somebody else didn’t take. Some producers and songwriters give records to artists that and don’t give them A+ work. I wanted to give her my AA+ work because she deserves it.

Wow! Well you’ve also worked on Brandy’s ‘Human’ album on the song ‘A Capella (Something’s Missing)’. Are there any plans to work with her on her next album?

I Love Brandy I think she’s a great talent. If the people that are in place would set it up then I’d definitely want to work with her again. I don’t have her personal contact but when I see her in public we always say “hi” and stuff like that.

I heard she’s working on an album so I would love to get on it if she calls me up.

Judging by the R&B/Dance records that you crafted for Ciara, I think you could do great work with Chris Brown. Are you contributing any songs to his upcoming album due early next year?

I’m honestly trying to contribute to it. We see each other in the club and we talked about how he wanted some songs from me. I submitted two beats but I’m waiting for some time to actually get in [the studio] with him. I like getting in with the artist and picking the artist’s brain before I write a song so when I get that opportunity I think it will go really well.

Right now I’m just taking it as it comes for me; I don’t chase too many projects anymore. If the timing is right and we see each other then we’ll link up. Our management is pretty strong so they can help the relationship see all the way through but until then CB, Mark Pitts and everybody at Jive I heard definitely want me on the project. I heard he’s not done so I might be on it. You never know.

Of all the artists that you’ve worked with, so far, with whom did you have the best experience?

That’s hard…actually I’ve had the best recording experience with my artist, Scotty, on Universal Mowtown. She’s my absolute favourite. She’s easy to work with, she emulates the swag and she works fast. I’d say Scotty, Ciara and Kelly – those are my favourite people to work with.

Not to take anything away from anybody else, though, because I have fun I have fun in every session I do. If I’m not having fun then I don’t even do it; I don’t go to work. I love everybody I work with but Kelly, Scotty and Ciara are the 3 that all at the most to me.

Now let‘s play a quick game! I’m going to name 2 artists and I want you to tell me which of them you are more eager to work with and why (even if you’ve worked with them before). Here we go:

Keri Hilson or Ciara?

I have work with both of them but I definitely wanted to get on [Keri’s] ‘No Boy’s Allowed’ album, I really did. I submitted some good songs and Polow [Da Don] had them for a while because he’s executive producing the album. I went to him, tried to submit some songs and he took them for a while but they got lost in the shuffle. That happens in the game but you have to take it as it happens.

So I would love to work with Keri Hilson. With Ciara I already know what it is. I’m already working on her next album so I would love to work with Keri again, though, because we haven’t gotten the chance to really work together.

Keri wrote the verses for Beyonce on ‘Love In The Club (Part 2)’ so when I worked with her the track was there and I came in and out of the session. It wasn’t really a Keri/Soundz session; it was a Keri/Usher session and she never got the chance to work with me or see how I work so I would definitely love to work with her.

I just picked out 2 things from what you just said. First of all, you said that you’re working with Ciara on her next album so is she already recording a followup to ‘Basic Instinct’?

No. She’s travelling and promoting in different countries. This is a world game so you can’t just impact the US; you have to impact the world. So she’s travelling but in June 2011 we will be recording again and you could believe that!

She’s an artist, she’s hungry and she loves the direction. I came in at the very last second [on ‘Basic Instrinct’] so imagine if I could come in from beginning to end and we could just work and get a whole album. The next album will be crazy. I can’t even talk about it because it’s really not even supposed to be talked about.

You also said that Keri wrote the verses for ‘Love In This Club (Part 2)’. Did Beyonce contribute any songwriting to the record or was it all Keri?

Nope!

Wow! You said that with some vigour {laughs}! Are you trying to tell us something?

No no no {laughs}! Beyonce didn’t do it. She’s an artist who believes that she’s a superstar and she needs superstar writers to write for her.

Some artists feel like they have to write all their own stuff and that’s a myth. Honestly, people have been using songwriters since the beginning of time {laughs}. Lionel Richie and Smokey Robinson wrote a lot of the hits that people once heard on the radio.

People that want to write their own songs do it for publishing or they want money or they want to find different ways to be involved in the record. I say that if a superstar wants to write it or they just want to sing it then I’m totally for it. If it’s a hit song and they can sing my hit song way better than I could then I accept that as well.

I rather a person be a superstar than be a superhuman. I think that singers are supposed to be like superheroes; they’re supposed to do things that we can’t do. When I do a song, Beyonce knows she does things that no one can do so she realises that she doesn’t have to write it; she’ll just cut the hell out of it.

Still, Beyonce gets criticised by some people because she doesn’t write anything yet her name appears in the songwriters’ credits. How does that work?

Well, she promotes the record to the highest level. She’s the best in the game at promoting a record and when she does one of your records you’ll get a single, radio, commercials and movies. There are so many different types of money that comes with Beyonce when you do a record for her so it’s kind of like the price of admission – the price to get all the other aspects is that you have to pay a little bit.

She’ll want a little publishing and that’s guaranteed; she’s going to ask for it and you’re going to give it to her; no ifs, ands or buts. She’s going to make that record the biggest hit in the world so give her that publishing. She’ll take about 20%.

Okay…time for our next two artists. Who would you choose to work with: Beyonce or Mariah Carey?

Beyonce. I’m supposed to be meeting her soon to play her some records so Beyonce for sure. I set my mind on every artist that I want to work with. I wanted to work with Mariah about 2 years ago and I made 10 records for her.

I’m in the Red Zone camp and Tricky [Stewart] and The-Dream did the whole album last time so I tried to slip into it like I did with Ciara but Mariah is a private artist. She’s a diva so she’s not really social and I can’t really weasel my way in; I need to get a really big hit before an artist like that can really pay attention.

If you had to choose between Usher and Chris Brown, who would it be?

Oooh that’s a hard one…I say Usher. I don’t even deal with him anymore but I’d still do a record with him. He’s always been a superstar in my eyes so I’m just happy for his success and that he’s back on top. I’d choose Usher.

Next up are the 2 feuding artists out there right now: Lil Kim or Nicki Minaj?

I love Nicki. I think Kim could be something if she f*cked with me. All Kim needs is some hard beats, good songs and a good album then she could come back but right now Nicki Minaj has it.

I don’t know why they’re beefing. I think Nicki is definitely inspired by [Kim] but she’s in her own lane by herself. If it’s a lane that’s already been carved then follow the carve. She’s the only one doing it and I give her props. So I’d choose Nicki because she can flow like no other.

How about Lady GaGa or Ke$ha?

GaGa. She’s bigger.

Final question of the day: if you had to describe yourself in 3 words what would they be?

I’d say ‘cool’, ‘crazy’ and ‘innovative’.

I think those works work quite well. Having listened to your work, and doing this interview with you, I think those could work {laughs}.

{Laughs} I appreciate you calling me up man!

This has been a great interview. I really hope to hear more from you in the future, especially after hearing the work you did on Ciara’s album.

Thank you man! I appreciate that.

Thank you so much for your time Soundz. It was truly a pleasure!

Thanks man! Stay in touch!

What do you think of the interview?

    uhmmm…. who? the way you were going on on twitter, i’m thinking this is some huge super producer like Swizz or Darkchild… *side eye* anyway, i skipped to the Beyonce part ’cause that’s the only one i really cared about. he didn’t say anything new… we all know Bey doesn’t really write all her songs; i’m a Bey STAN and i can admit it. anyway, aside from the writing, he made it a point to say how great she is… so what’s YOUR point?

    oh and, i love how he said he’d rather work with Bey than Mariah… 🙂

    P.S. i really like Trent and i LOVE Mariah but i’m just saying…

  6. Heaven December 16, 2010

    Now you know that was one biased full of s*** MFer………I need not say more.

  7. AKisdabest December 16, 2010

    wow Soundz was really blunt about that beyonce thing. and crazy that ciara is about to record already. that album will prolly come out in 2012 tho

  8. Socivol December 16, 2010

    Welp he confirmed what we’ve all known for years, Beyonce is a dishonest, lying, thief.

  9. Nadjee December 16, 2010

    @Beyonce Owns Your Fav.

    Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe Trent should’ve did his research first before asking that question.

    “She’s an artist who believes that she’s a superstar and she needs superstar writers to write for her.”

    She doesn’t need to believe she is a superstar she should KNOW!!!!

    But I liked how he was honest and didn’t give any b******* answers like everyone else would do.

    Great Interview by the way Trent.

  10. Jazlene December 16, 2010

    Trent seriously?!? Most anticipated Interview?!?! I think not.

  11. Beyonce owns Your Fav. December 16, 2010

    @SOCIVOL

    This interview didn’t prove anything because like I said her name is not on love in this club credits nor did she ever say she wrote it. The only credit she got was for her vocals.

    I mean maybe if irrational haters would not assume and do their research first they wouldn’t look so dumb.

  12. Sublime00 December 16, 2010

    That was a really good and honest interview; enjoyed reading it. It was cool to see the “industry” respect Mariah as the DIVA that she is…and is in a complete league of her own.

    Beyonce don’t write her s***…but she get her 20% hahahaha..thats fraud and fuckery but I can’t honestly say that I wouldn’t do the same thing. You get the coins and the awards and don’t have to life your finger!! HAHAHAH

    But damn Trent don’t hype it so much, i thought it was gonna be this really juicy read..it waas cool and all.

  13. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @Beyonceownsyourfave

    But her name IS on the writing credits of Smash Into You, Broken-Hearted Girl, and That’s Why You’re Beautiful. All songs she CLEARLY didn’t write since the demos featuring Jon Mclaughlin, Baby Face, and James Fauntleroy have the same lyrics are the Beyonce version. And actually the That’s Why You’re Beautiful demo actually has a bridge she didn’t record. She doesn’t write her own music but gets the writing credits anyways. Or tries to take credit for songs she didn’t write in interview (ex. When she was claiming she wrote irresplaceable and Ne-yo shot her ass down).

    Soundz basically said she steals writing credits to get publishing checks so that proves a lot. No longer is it speculation that she does it it’s CONFIRMED.

  14. Socivol December 16, 2010

    Oh also when “Listen” was nominated for an Oscar don’t you find it odd that the songs was over the writing limit and BEYONCE was the only writer that didn’t get the nomination? Do you really think someone like ego manic Knowles would let herself get cut from a possible Oscar if she actually wrote the song? That’s something for you stans to think about.

  15. TIMMI December 16, 2010

    TGJ underestimate Rihanna so much.

    What you fail to realise is that she’s not actually a bad VOCALIST, you just don’t LIKE the tone of her voice, which is unchangable. You make yourselves look like fools asking people about her vocal talent and then they rate her 9/10.

    She KILLED the songs on Loud (hear “Complicated”) and she’s been KILLING it with the live performances this era. Even “Only Girl in the World” requires an above average level of vocal talent. She’s improved immensely and deserves props for that.

  16. keri slays December 16, 2010

    lmao at keri writing theifonyce hit and the b**** fronting like she did lmao keri comming for all these h*** crown beleve dat nba dec 21st lmao at keri shading b in the turning me on remix lmao it really was about buffalo

  17. Beyonce owns Your Fav. December 16, 2010

    @SOCIVOL

    Beyonce did NOT steal Smash into you! This song was written by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream.Jon McLaughlin recorded the song for his album but didn’t use it so they gave the song to Beyonce and she gave the song a new vocal and melody arrangement and re-wrote the chorus and thats why she is credited as a writer!

  18. Rupert December 16, 2010

    Umm good interview, but next time how about you use spell check before you publish. This interview has WAYYYYY too many errors. Highly unprofessional.

  19. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    THESE BEY STANS ARE DELUSIONAL!!!!!! HAHAHAH

    BEYONCE DOESNT WRITE HER MATERIAL , GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!

    ANYWAY THO……

    SAM/TRENT YOU GUYS ARE REEEEEEEEEEEALLY PRESSED ABOUT RIHANNA….IT’S KIND OF SAD THOUGH…….TWO QUEENS ONCE AGAIN DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST…….STARTING S***.

    BUT DONT YOU LOVE THAT RIHANNA IS SMASHING SO HARD WITH THE LOUD ALBUM?

    HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAH

  20. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    LMFAO @ BEYONCE OWNS YOUR FAVE

    CHANGING SMACK INTO YOU INTO SMASH INTO YOU IS CONSIDERED WRITING THE CHORUS?

    AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHH DELUSIONAL !

  21. im not your friend December 16, 2010

    Trent, I don’t know how serious you are about this blog, but if you were a true, professional writer, you wouldn’t dare let your dislike for Beyonce and Rihanna show itself like it does. It really ruins the quality of your entries, especially your interviews.

  22. GRAFFITIGRAMMYNOMINATEDBITCH December 16, 2010

    He had me up until he chose Usher over Chris. After that I was pretty much done.

  23. Lostonez December 16, 2010

    he was pretty blunt me like

  24. Beyonce owns Your Fav. December 16, 2010

    And for Broken heart it was more than 2 words and it doesn’t matter because rather she wrote 2 words or 100 words she still contributed. Also she changed the melody just a little and the key is different.

    Another thing she is not even on the writing credits on “Listen” and I don’t recall her ever saying she wrote the song.

    And people only payed attention to the part where Ne-Yo said he wrote the words. They just skipped the part where she said she came up with the arrangements and melodies.

  25. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @beyonceownsyourfav

    Even if that were true what about the other two songs I listed? Secondly the ONLY different in Smash Into You is the word “smash” instead of “smack” I have both version on my computer right now. Third you do realize there is typically a credit for vocal arrangement right? And it’s typically not as a listed writer. But I’m still waiting to hear what exactly she changed in Broken-Hearted Girl and ESPECIALLY That’s Why You’re Beautiful since it is WORD FOR WORD the same. I’m not knocking her hustle but she’s dishonest. If I took someone else’s work and put my name on it and tried to turn it in to my professor it’s called academic dishonesty, cheating, or plagiarizing.

  26. Beystanbish December 16, 2010

    Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  27. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @beyonceownsyourfav she definitely said she wrote listen. On some versions before she goes into the song she talks about writing the song from her character Deena’s perspective in Dreamgirls lol. Secondly she’s LISTED AS A WRITER ON THE SONG. But there were too many writers listed for the Oscars and one had to be dropped. And I KNOW you’re not saying that Beyonce would be the writer that would just “volunteer” to not possibly WIN AN OSCAR! You’re delusional lol! Like I said I’m not trying to knock her hustle tons of great singers don’t write their own music, but most are just more honest about it.

  28. Jay December 16, 2010

    Yes CIARA recording again…i think she should take her time stay on HUSH HUSH and 2012 hit us with an APOCALYPSE …i like that as an album title for her =)

  29. Beyonce owns Your Fav. December 16, 2010

    @NICKY

    SHe also changed the vocal and arrangement which count for writing credit as well. so sit down.

  30. roger December 16, 2010

    He just ruined any chance he had to work with Beyonce lmfao. & who is he to say that Beyoncé doesn’t write on the tracks she has credit for? The only song he knows is LITC, and Beyonce never claimed to write that. Even if Beyoncé changes one word in the song, she deserves credit, just like any other artist does. And some of Beyoncé’s best songs were written by her. Dangerously In Love was written by her when she was 13. She did a lot of writing on the tracks for B’Day. Also, it doesn’t matter if she writes or not. Who else could’ve done “Single Ladies”? If that song was given to Ciara or Rihanna, it would’ve been a hot mess. Beyonce turned it into one of the best songs of the decade, so she deserves all the credit in the world.

  31. Beystanbish December 16, 2010

    Ummm I hope Bey don’t work with this fool. Go write hits for the lesser.. We don’t need you. Boooooo bye b****.

  32. Beystanbish December 16, 2010

    Somebody give me this ^b**** twitter or something. Who the f*** he think he is. Ugh I’m pissed. *taps feet*

  33. Lioness December 16, 2010

    my fav part was when he said Rihanna has her own vocal team…..send the demo…never see artists..they send song back for approval.

    love it. diva.

  34. Lioness December 16, 2010

    my fav part was when he said Rihanna has her own vocal team…..send the demo…never see artists..they send song back for approval.

    love it. diva. 🙂

  35. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    i’M QUITE BAFFLED HOW HE SAID THAT BEY WILL MAKE THE SONG THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD WHEN SHE DOESNT HAVE ANY SONG ON THE TOP 200 SELLING SONGS OF ALL TIME…..

    JUST SAYING……

  36. WhatEva December 16, 2010

    I already knew that. Honestly I so believe tho that Beyonce wrote the Survivor songs and DIL songs, because there aren’t a whole bunch of writers credited with her just one or two. But whatever. Like he said, Beyonce will promote the hell out of song if anything and that’s mainly why she would get credit.

  37. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    Oh my God. I love how Trent threw shade at Ri like 5 times but Soundz just shot it down.

    Baisc Instinct is kind of failing in the US but she may be able to hit it big with that record in Europe, Asia, and Australia so it could end up being more of an international album for her.

    The good news is that we’ll have a follow up late next year or early 2012 which is exciting because I didn’t love Basic Instinct and she really does need to make a comeback in the US. If this next album isn’t big, she’ll probably be gone for good. I mean it’s been 4 years since she’s been big.

    Bad news is that if that album is being released so soon, she’s probably sticking with Jive and her current management when she is in DESPERATE need of a new label and management team.

    I don’t understand why Trent focuses so much on flaws. Everyone knows that Beyonce doesn’t write her own songs.

    The way he talked about B and Mariah seemed disrespectful to me, though. I’m sure he didn’t mean to be that way but it came across that way…

    Apocalypse would be an amazing title for her next record.

  41. WTF December 16, 2010

    @BEYONCE OWNS YOUR FAV.

    Christina Aguilera changed the melody of Beautiful when she recorded it and ALL the time when she sings live. That has nothing to do with the ultimate composition of the song, and in no way makes her deserve a writing credit. She respects that Linda Perry wrote an AMAZING song and that LINDA PERRY DESERVES FULL CREDIT. He mentions that Mariah is “diva-ish” for keeping her album production very private, where I think Beyonce is the diva one! To even think she really deserves the credit because she is a big name is BS. Mariah’s music is super personal to her and she just wants a specific sound, that is why she is very private…..thats not Diva. Beyonce just wants money and demands she deserves credit., now thats a greedy Diva.

  42. WhatEva December 16, 2010

  44. keri slays December 16, 2010

    @rihannaforever i think that gurl is switching managements or sumthing because it seems like everybody involved just threw thia album out there just because i heard they shipped like 60-70k units to stores lmao but something is going on behind the scenes…..

  45. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    My problem with Ciara is that her last two albums didn’t have any BIG records. Goodies and The Evolution did.

    For example, Goodies had jaw-dropping, big records like “1, 2 Step” and The Evolution had songs like “Like a Boy”. The closest Fantasy Ride came to a big record was “Love S** Magic” but that was mediocre at best. “Gimmie Dat” isn’t a very well-done record and that’s probably the closest thing for her to a big record on Basic Instinct.

    She needs to ditch her management and label who don’t seem to care about her and thought only promoting the album in its release week on 3 shows would be a good idea and she also needs to record with other people than The Dream and Tricky.

    Redzone can make A good song. They cannot make MULTIPLE good songs. If she went to them for one record and then worked with other people like Soundz, Swizz, Bangladesh – she’d be back on top.

    That’s true. The record is projected to sell 35-40k first week but I heard that her label only shipped 70k copies in the US. I could understand them minimalizing the number of copies sent out for saved money but Fantasy Ride sold 81k first week and they didn’t even ship that many copies out.

    A first run of 150k copies could’ve helped. All I know is that my neighborhood stores were sold out…

  49. WTF December 16, 2010

    @BEYONCE OWNS YOUR FAV.

    and to add. Beautiful is going to be a song that Christina is going to sing forever. Its timeless. when she’s 70, someones going to ask her to sing it. Its been professionally covered numerous times. It’s sung on TV shows, movies, and more! The song is only famous because Christina Aguilera sang it. Linda Perry is a very popular name in the music biz, if you truly follow music, but Christina Aguilera is the face that allowed “there [to be] so many different types of money that comes with” (as Soundz put it with Beyonce) releasing that song with Christina. Linda Perry will make money until she dies with Beautiful, and Christina is perfectly fine with that. But Once again, Christina doesnt have any bit of song writing credit on that song! She respects the artistry of music and who is due credit, not a money grubbing diva.

  50. Johnny December 16, 2010

    It’s so crazy that ya’ll did an interview on him when I was just looking at his credits yesterday. He’s produced some of my favorite songs from a few albums (Letoya’s, Ciara’s and Brandy’s in particular), so I’m really interested in hearing more from him.

    He sounded pretty cool in the interview too, so I hope he blows up huge soon.

    I’ve always knew Beyonce didn’t write her songs, but fo some reason I also feel that there are a few others don’twrite her songs.

    Great interview, i am very happy that i read it. It is always interesting to get an inside peak of music industry. I must say that i agree with some of the other readers that you guys need to stop criticizing Rihanna. We all know that Rihanna is not a great live vocalist, but you must admit that she sounds decent on the record. On the other hand, I find it so fun that Beyonce always claims that she writes her music when in fact this is false. I do not have a problem that beyonce does not write her own music because frankly, a lot of artists do not write their own music, I just have a problem with the fact that she goes around telling people that she writes her own music–lame

    my fav part was when he said Rihanna has her own vocal team…..send the demo…never see artists..they send song back for approval.

    love it. diva.

    ^^^^^actually, that just means they can mix her in with a ton of background singers, use autotune, change her vocals, spend 20 hrs just to get her to hit ONE notes…..and no one can know. lol.

    So the fact she CANT sing live is a big deal considering no one outside of her team hears/sees her record in the studio. Anyone can sound good in a studio. People who aren’t even trying to sing (Antoine Dodson) can sound good with the right things added.

  58. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    TWO QUOTES:

    “Beyonce knows she does things that no one can do so she realises that she doesn’t have to write it; she’ll just cut the hell out of it.”

    Meaning that she take bits and pieces out, make some changes, or chop it up a little.

    “She’ll want a little publishing and that’s guaranteed; she’s going to ask for it and you’re going to give it to her; no ifs, ands or buts. She’s going to make that record the biggest hit in the world so give her that publishing. She’ll take about 20%.”

    She ask for the writing credits. They say YES, end of story.

    The writers obviously have no problem with Beyonce taking the credit why should the public?

WHEN A SONG GETS PUBLISHED, THE FIRST 3 NAMES THAT ARE CREDITED ARE THE ONES THAT DID THE MOST FOR THE SONG, HENCE WHY BEYONCE WON A GRAMMY FOR SINGLE LADIES FOR SONG OF THE YEAR. YOU IDIOTS ACT LIKE WRITING THE SONG DOWN ON A PIECE A PAPER IS WHAT GETS YOU A WRITING CREDIT. YOU ALSO HAVE TO TAKE IN TO ACCOUNT THE MELODY OF THE SONG AND THE VOCAL ARRANGEMENT AND THAT’S WHAT BEYONCE IS THE QUEEN OF. BEYONCE NEVER CLAIMS TO WRITE EVERY SINGLE SONG SHE COMES OUT WITH. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN SHE SAYS SHE WROTE SOMETHING, 80% OF THE TIME IS BECAUSE SHE PUT THE MELODY AND VOCAL ARRANGEMENTS TOGETHER FOR THE SONG. KEEP THE QUEEN IN YA MOUTHS. 2011 IS JUST AROUND CORNER AND THEN SHE WILL GIVE U HATIN B****** TO TALK ABOUT.

  66. Socivol December 16, 2010

    It’s still dishonest. She’s taking credit for someone else’s work. I remember she tried to get that writing credit for “If I Were a Boy” and actually said she wrote that song but got SHUT DOWN and didn’t get that credit. It’s just really dishonest and uncalled for. She is Beyonce she doesn’t have anything to prove.

  67. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @CHH

    The problem with your argument is vocal arrangement is typically listed in the credits as the VOCAL ARRANGER. So it shouldn’t be as a writer if you don’t write anything since there is a specific credit for melody and vocal arrangement. It blows my mind how you stans try to justify this.

  68. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    @WTF, I KNOW WHAT SOLANGE WROTE. SOLANGE DOESN’T CARE IF HER NAME IS FIRST OR 2ND, SHE KNOWS HOW GREAT BEYONCE IS AND SHE PROBABLY KNOWS BEYONCE DID A WHOLE LOT OF WORK PUTTING THE MELODY AND VOCAL ARRANGEMENTS TO THE SONG HENCE WHY HER NAME MAY BE FIRST. BEYONCE, SOLANGE, AND ANGIE WROTE THE SONG. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF SOLANGE, BEYONCE, AND ANGIE WROTE THE SONG. IT DOESN’T MATTER IF ANGIE, SOLANGE, AND BEYONCE WROTE THE SONG. WHO CARES WHO’S NAME IS FIRST. OBVIOUSLY SOLANGE DOESN’T CARE. THEY ALL PUT IT WORK TO MAKE THE SONG WHAT IT IS. END OF DISCUSSION.

    I don’t think she’s the only artist that does it but she’s so vocal about writing songs and then demos leak of the song with no changes so she’s the most noticeable. Like I said she has NOTHING to prove so it really baffles me why she feels the need to lie about that. And just because she’s not the only one doesn’t make it right for her to continue to do it.

  72. WTF December 16, 2010

    @SOCIVOL

    I agree. Like if it is truly about she’s a singer and she should KILL a song and not worry about writing like Soundz said, then she has nothing more to prove by trying to front like she writes or that she really needs the credit. You can still get your pay for publishing and not get a credit in the album.Thats what “Ghost writing” is. There are people who write songs and aren’t credited in the album or anywhere else but they still get paid. If beyonce just wanted money because she can promote the song and getting a placement with her is a big deal, then she doesn’t necessarily NEED the written credit. But she is really just trying to look like the 360 entertainer….singing, dancing, acting AND writing. But she’s not that. Now she just looks dumb and like a liar. There are plenty of singers who don’t write and are still respected.

  73. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    continuing my previous comment:

    why do u think the media doesn’t take it that far?

    Because they know that Beyonce isn’t the only artist taking credits she didn’t write.

    Beyonce is a BLACK CHICK in the music industry and if the media wanted to drag her out believe the would with the songwriting stuff. but im guessing they don’t because she is not the only artist doing it.

  74. CHH December 16, 2010

    @SOCIVAL, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE MEANING OF A SONG WRITER IS? IT’S THE PERSON OR PERSONS WHO GO INTO A STUDIO AND MAKE A SONG. NOT JUST THE LYRICS. IF THAT WERE THE CASE, THAT PERSON OR PERSONS WOULD BE A LYRICIST, NOT A SONG WRITER. A SONG WRITER INCLUDES THE LYRICS, THE MELODY, THE VOCAL ARRANGEMENT, ETC. I KNOW I WILL JUSTIFY THIS BECAUSE IT’S A FACT.

  75. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    @WTF

    But Beyonce doesn’t have ghost writers.

    Everyone is credited that we know of. No one has ever came out and said I wrote this song and didn’t get credited.

  76. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @Chh

    You’re wrong is that’s a “song writer” then why is there a credit for vocal arrangement when according to you that’s the “song writer” what you’re saying doesn’t make sense. There are different credits for actually writing the lyrics of a song aka the WRITER credit and making melodies aka VOCAL ARRANGEMENT. Look in any CD jacket and you will find two SEPARATE credits for those two things. Your justification is just plain wrong.

  77. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    @BeyonceFan
    It isn’t just that. Beyonce said she directed the whole I Am… World Tour DVD by herself and only got a little help for this one application when she actually had two co-directors who did most of the work.

    She went to Egypt and called her experience there “unbelievable” and “spiritual” and then performed a concert at one of the pyramids when her tour guide said that he gave her a book and she was “stupid, showed no interest in learning anything, and used it as a publicity stunt”.

    I love her music, but she just comes across as very self-centered, rude, and publicity-seeking.

  78. WTF December 16, 2010

    @CHH

    when you WRITE a song. U make ur own vocal arrangement. Its one thing to write lyrics, but in order to pitch a song to someone everything has to already be pre recorded. If someone (in this case, Beyonce) adds a riff or run to the original vocal arrangement, that has nothing to do with the ultimate composition of a song and it not a change to the essence of the song. When performers sing live and change the notes a bit, that doesn’t mean they change the melody or the vocal arrangement. It just means they stylized it a bit. Changing a vocal arrangement would mean completing changing the whole melody and to do that would just change the song as a whole and it sounding nothing how it originally did, which Beyonce does NOT do.

    And the order of who is credit plays a role because like ingredients in your food, whatever has the most is listed first. The order people are credited play a role on who contributed the most and who got paid the most. Trust me im from Houston, TSU….where Solange’s babys daddy went to school. I have many friends who are friends with Solange and she does what daddy says to keep her biggest bread winning job if she wants to continue the life she is accustom to. There are favorites played in the Knowles family. Mathew is not this innocent man when it comes to his daughters career and getting her what she “deserves”.

  79. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @Beyonce Fan

    Just because she’s not the only one doing it doesn’t make it right. She got caught lying about it and that’s why it’s a big deal. That’s like a murderer saying “But other people do it too!” I’m sure other people do but you got CAUGHT, that is the difference.

  80. GAG December 16, 2010

    “Songwriters signed to an exclusive songwriting agreement with a publisher are known as “staff writers”. Being a staff-writer effectively means that during the term of a songwriter’s contract with a publisher, all their songs are automatically published by the company to which they signed,I and cannot be published elsewhere”

    The songs written for Beyonce are under her publishing company so that’s probably why she gets credit.

  81. Beystanbish December 16, 2010

    DEAD @ her “performing a concert at one of the pyramids”. Singing a song to oneself is a concert now? KI!

  83. Perry December 16, 2010

    Bahahah I find it so comical that all these b****** are arguing over the most retarded little writing credits. Get the f*** over it. Beyonce isn’t a songwriter, she’s a f****** performer. And she’ll f****** slay each and every one of your faves to pieces on the stage. Who gives a s*** if she writes s*** or not? She’s still going to sell leagues more than Rihanna, C-Error, etc. Arguing over it isn’t going to do anything! She’ll continue to be the megastar that she is, no worries or regrets in the world. And you will remain pressed! Good day.

  84. WTF December 16, 2010

    @BEYONCE FAN

    a ghost writer legally cant try to claim credit for what they ghost wrote. They can say “im a ghost writer” but they’re not suppose to say for what piece of work (and usually out of respect , what artist. But im not sure if they legally cant. It just depends on the agreement/contract), So you can never know if Bey truly does or does not have ghost writers.

    But if she is really just wanting the credit to get money because she thinks its deserved because she will give the creators a lot of publicity, then they could easily work something out behind closed doors to get the money without a written credit. They purposely give her the written credit to make her seem like a well rounded artists, when in fact she doesn’t write.

  85. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    @RIHANNAFOREVER

    Beyonce never said she directed the DVD by “herself”.

    “Right now, I am learning Final Cut Pro and learning to edit — I just directed my [tour] DVD,” she said. “I was figuring out exactly where I wanted the cameras to go, who I wanted to be the ASSISTANT DIRECTORS.

    Also any n** can look on the case or wikipedia and see that Ed Burke and Frank Gatson is on the writing credit.

    And what makes you say they did most of the work?

  86. Socivol December 16, 2010

    It’s funny how all the stans are saying “Who cares if she writes it or not” obviously BEYONCE, your queen does, or she wouldn’t be stealing credits. My issue is that Beyonce is supposed to be a role model and is basically promoting being a liar and a theft. That’s not okay. I don’t dislike her at all I just think she’s a liar and a thief which most of you stans have cosigned so my point has been made.

  87. Perry December 16, 2010

  88. CHH December 16, 2010

    AT THE END OF THE DAY, A SONG WRITER IS SOMEONE WHO WRITES LYRICS AND MUSIC TO A SONG. LAST TIME I CHECKED MUSIC CONTAINS ELEMENTS OF PITCH, MELODY, HARMONY, RHYTHM, TEMPO, ETC. SO YOU CAN SIT UP HERE AND DISPUTE IT ALL DAY LONG, AT THE END OF THE DAY, BEYONCE’S NAME WILL APPEAR ON SONGS THAT SHE FEELS THE NEED TO CHANGE IF SHE DOESN’T LIKE IT AKA ARRANGEMENT OF A SONG. LETS TAKE IF I WERE A BOY FOR EXAMPLE. HER NAME IS NOT ON THE CREDITS BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T RE-ARRANGE THE LYRICS OR THE MELODY. SHE’S LISTED AS A PRODUCER BECAUSE SHE CHANGED THE BEAT OF THE SONG TO FIT HER VOICE. SO I’M NOT HERE FOR ANY OF YOU. LOOK UP THE DEFINITION OF A SONG WRITER AND THEN GET BACK TO ME.

  89. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    @IAnTuition
    I did think long enough, about it, thanks. The least, however, that Beyonce could do is acknowledge them when she stated that everything on the DVD was completely done by herself. She acts as if everything done is by her and that she’s perfect.

    Every artist acknowledges and thanks their team. Beyonce has done that few times but not very often. She acts as if she is a one-woman show which is not true at ALL. She is so overly calculated by others that it’s insane.

    I didn’t know exactly how by terms of concert, but she made appearances in Egypt as opposed to using the time spent in Egypt to learn about history which, unlike she makes it seem, is more important than her.

    Beyonce makes amazing music and is extremely talented but her self-centered attitude and public display of mega self-importance by failing to acknowledge that this world is not all about Beyonce is sickening.

  90. Perry December 16, 2010

    @Socivol

    Bahhaha you act like the whole f****** world knows about Beyonce’s songwriting. The reality is that the majority of people don’t give a f****** s*** about songwriting. Little girls aren’t looking up to Beyonce because of her songwriting abilities. They’re looking up to her as a superstar and a performer. Truly no one (besides pressed b****** on the internet such as yourself) give a s*** about Beyonce’s songwriting. Get over it.

  91. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    @BeyonceFan
    They directed the majority of it according to many sources, including Gatson himself. Gatson is highly respected; I highly doubt he’d lie about such a thing. He’s extremely professional.

    Maybe she did say assistant directors, but did she ever thank them or acknowledge them at a later date? No, she did not.

    @Perry
    What do you mean pretend? I absolutely adore Beyonce’s music. I own every record by her and have actually seen her live in concert. I love that you try to attack me sideways for something you don’t know and make yourself seem more idiotic than your own comment did. I’m not psycho-analyzing everything that she says, actually. However, there are some things that just cause you to wonder. She contradicts herself on a regular basis. It isn’t psycho-analyzing to simply acknowledge the fact.

    By the way, Rihanna’s irrelavent here. I never even said that she wasn’t attention-seeking. We’re talking about Beyonce. It’s extremely pathetic to try and degrade my argument by involving my stan status when I’m actually a logical music fan. Rihanna’s irrelavent right now.

  92. Socivol December 16, 2010

    Lol you’re so childish you couldn’t even come up with a convincing argument to prove your point. And actually everyone I know knows that she is a song stealing theft lol. This is how the media creates beef and keeps them going! How the media ask everyone about Nicki & Kim.. Nicki and Kim arent talking about their beef anymore every1 else is. Keri vs Ciara the media is playing into this beef not them.. Im over these bloggers

  104. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    Do you not realize that Beyonce doesn’t like staying on stage to TALK for a long time. And when she gives her acceptance speeches or whatever it seems that she goes brain dead trying think of everybody when she does try to do so. So of course she is going to say “I worked for 9 months editing this DVD” say her thank you’s to her fans than leave.

    I’m a big Beyonce fan, but she is not really articulate.

  105. Iantuition December 16, 2010

    @ RihannaForever

    @IAnTuition
    “I did think long enough, about it, thanks.”
    No you didn’t, you ignorant n***** f*****. Don’t you EVER correct me.

    WHY the hell would she acknowledge them when she DID direct and edit the DVD by herself? SHE was in charge of the video footage. Frank and Ed were NOT.

    Every artist acknowledges and thanks their team. Beyonce has done that few times but not very often. She acts as if she is a one-woman show which is not true at ALL. She is so overly calculated by others that it’s insane.

    DEAD @ acting as if she’s a one-woman show. Did you actually watch the behind the scenes on the DVD? Overly calculated by others… sit DOWNE, if she were she’d be making mindless music like Rihanna.

    DEAD @ a tour through a pyramid not being “learning about history”

    “Self-centered attitude”, “public display of mega self-importance”. WHERE? It sounds as if you’re perturbed that the woman actually IS popular and revered. Oh well. It’s not changing anytime soon.

  106. Perry December 16, 2010

    @Rihannaforever

    Actually bb, it has EVERYTHING to do with Rihanna. It’s fair and safe to say that Rihanna is your fave, correct? You’re criticizing Beyonce as being this self-centered, maniacal c***, when in truth, your fave could be just as bad or worse. And imo, Rihanna is in dire need of attention, far more then Beyonce. So you think Beyonce is a dishonest, self-centered c***?…guess what, I think Rihanna is an attention-seeking, talentless twat. I guess what I’m trying to say is, criticizing someone like Beyonce is completely pointless, when your fave is just as or more guilty.

  107. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    @BeyonceFan
    Of course I realize that. I’m just saying that things like THAT happen so often that it seems like more than just her shy nature.

  108. Beyonce Fan December 16, 2010

    And also another thing to note is that when Beyonce is ASKED who SHE WORKED WITH IN AN INTERVIEW she will state it.

    Like for example when she had the BDAY special on 106th and Park. They asked her who contributed to the album and she named EVERYBODY and this was before the whole Ne-Yo situation.

  109. Iantuition December 16, 2010

    “And actually everyone I know knows that she is a song stealing theft lol.”

    This statement is like saying “everyone I know is a s***”. Of course everyone YOU know is, because you hang out with other s****, fool!
    And since WHEN is a human being a “theft”?

  110. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    @IAnTuition
    I am allowed to correct you when you’re wrong. Calling me curse words is purely pathetic. It really does degrade the quality of your argument moreso than it already had been by its false nature. In countless interviews, Beyonce takes credit for everything she does without acknowleding others.

    And why did her tour guide say those things about her Egyptian trip, then?

    @Perry
    No, it doesn’t. We were talking about Beyonce and her current position when you brought Rihanna into this. Rihanna and Beyonce are on opposite sides of the spectrum as artists so they’re irrelavent in each other’s independent topics.

  111. Socivol December 16, 2010

    @Iantuition

    Oh call out one spelling error! It happens I’m still far more educated than you are, or probably ever will be actually. I know people that are versed in music. Everytime she drops a single she’s always talking about how SHE wrote it and it’s just a collective sigh because nobody believes her anymore. She’s actually done a disservice to herself too because if she ever does write something nobody will believe her.

  112. Perry December 16, 2010

    @Rihannaforever

    Well there ya go again! You attack Beyonce for being a thief and dishonest…but I’m sure when someone says Rihanna can’t sing or is as stiff as a plank on stage, you defend her. It just comes off as hypocritical honestly. It’s all a matter of opinion. You’re so desperately trying to convince everyone how dishonest and self-centered Bey is, when in truth it’s not solving anything. I love Beyonce, you don’t. That’s all that it’s ever going to be.

  113. Iantuition December 16, 2010

    @RihahaForever

    Too bad I wasn’t wrong.
    I called you a “curse word” because said words describe you. I call ’em like I see ’em. If you don’t like it, you better change it… you ugly f***** B****. 🙂

    DEAD @ false nature. YOU can’t counter it. I sat right here and TOLD you what the ACTUAL facts ARE. And if you’ve seen her live like you CLAIM, you would have heard her THANK EVERYONE WHO MAKES THE SHOW WHAT IT IS at the end of the concert. She even asks the audience to give it up for them. What were you doing at this crucial point in the concert, to miss this? Getting your $2 for sucking d*** in the $20 seats?

    Most foreigners hate Americans, especially tourists. If your IQ was more than one DIGIT, you’d know this.

  114. LALA December 16, 2010

    I don’t get how Beyonce could be so dumb when both her parents are college educated.

    Solange is very smart and articulate

    maybe if Beyonce was focusing more on school she wouldn’t be such a n**.

  115. Khloe December 16, 2010

    Songwriting isn’t only writing the lyrics. It’s also writing the melody, too. Beyonce is either doing one or both on a song. When will some of you look up songwriting to discover that fact. I don’t know how somebody who has never worked with Beyonce knows what she does or doesn’t contribute to her songs. When somebody like Rico Love, Amanda Ghost, Jim Jonsin, Neyo, The Dream, etc…all say that she contributes a lot to her songs. I was reading an interview with Neyo one time, and he said that he’s a big enough songwriter that he doesn’t have to give credit to anyone that doesn’t deserve it. He said that Beyonce wrote the melody for Irreplaceable. Beyonce never said anything about writing LITC2.. Find me a f****** interview where she said that. She never said that she wrote If I Was a Boy. I remember a month before that song came out she sent a press release saying it was a Toby Gad song. That lying b**** BC Jean knows that hating ass folks like to say that Beyonce doesn’t write her songs, and BC Jean was trying to make a name for herself. What she said was that she was surprised to hear Beyonce singing her song on the radio. She didn’t know Beyonce would be singing it. The b**** had sold the song to Toby Gad. He could give it to anyone that he wanted to. BC Jean had to retract what she said. Beyonce’s name isn’t on the credits for the song.

  116. Kathy December 16, 2010

    You guys are misreading. He said that they give her the credit because anything sung by her becomes a hit, which gives the writer recognition, and more projects, so they give her the song writing credits in return.

    less talking, more reading idiots.

  117. Natalie December 16, 2010

    Lala, you sound pretty dumb. Beyonce sounds a lot more intelligent than the people that try to criticize her.

  118. Iantuition December 16, 2010

    “Oh call out one spelling error!”
    One REPEATED, constant spelling error? OKAY! *CALLS IT OUT AGAIN*

    “I’m still far more educated than you are, or probably ever will be actually.”
    No you’re not. If you were, you’d know how to spell “thief” (a FIVE LETTER WORD) and you’d know the difference between “a thief” and “a theft”.
    You’re a dumb darkie pickaninny one step out of the burning fields. There’s nothing wrong with that… as long as you know your place.

    “I know people that are versed in music.”
    No… you don’t. =))

    “Everytime she drops a single she’s always talking about how SHE wrote it”
    YES because she went on and on about how she wrote “If I Were a Boy”, for example That’s why she flat-out said in Essence that she didn’t write it… before the song even was heard.
    Oh, “every time” is two words, not one, Sambo.

    “She’s actually done a disservice to herself too because if she ever does write something nobody will believe her.”
    Except the Recording Academy (Song. of. the. YEAR.), and the people with actual sense.
    I know it’s infuriating. Let it OUT.

    I wouldn’t believe that idiot from Egypt that tried to call Beyonce a stupid woman. Hawass is the same f***** that’s trying to dismiss the fact that black people had anything to do with Egypt. at all. She probably asked his ass about black involvement in Egypt, and that’s why he was so upset with her. His colleagues said that he’s a real rude asshole and talks about people in Arabic behind their backs so they don’t know what he’s saying.

  123. RihannaForever December 16, 2010

    ________________________________________________
    Who do you think you are? You act like you’re the queen of TGJ, telling people to “change their behavior”. So I am a “n***** f*****”. Let’s look at the definition of those words, shall we?

    N*****:
    1. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive .
    a. a black person.
    b. a member of any dark-skinned people.
    _________________
    I’m not dark-skinned or black.

    2. Slang: Extremely Disparaging and Offensive . a person of any race or origin regarded as contemptible, inferior, ignorant, etc.
    ____________________________
    I am not someone who is “inferior” or “ignorant”. It’s funny to me that you correct others’ spelling and then proceed to utilize the most slang definitions of words. The reason the word “n*****” is now used as inferior and ignorant is because s**** owners considered them said words.

    According to your Gravatar, you are dark-skinned. If using the word n***** correctly from its origin, dark-skinned people are inferior and ignorant.

    If you’d like to use the word n*****, it is a perfect word to describe you.

    F*****:
    –noun
    Slang: Disparaging and Offensive . a male homosexual.
    ____________________
    I’m female, actually. The word f*****’s origin is of a contemptuous female – and I suppose I could be considered contempuous towards you and your idiotic logic.

    “DEAD @ false nature. YOU can’t counter it. I sat right here and TOLD you what the ACTUAL facts ARE. You are extremely mature, I must say. I did not choose to counter it because there was nothing TO counter. Your points were presented in a dumb way, yet you desire for me to respond? Why do you want my opinion so badly?

    At the end of the concert, I did hear her say said things. However, to the general public which does not attend her concerts, not a word is mentioned of her management and production crew. Therefore, it seems that she wants to keep them “under wraps”.

    “Getting your $2 for sucking d*** in the $20 seats”.
    Well written sentence. First of all, “sucking d***” does not agree together. Sucking followed by a noun would require said noun to be plural. If not, a subordinating conjunction of sorts, a, is required.

    Also, that was such an immature comment that I feel so horribly for your family. They must be ashamed.

    I also had seats in the 3rd row. Funny you try to insult me without any prior knowledge. It’s like trying to hunt when one is blind: your chances of succeeding are slim.

    ___________________________________
    After all the points I’ve just made, I think you and I both know whose IQ is less than one digit. It also shows that you are not well educated by stating something along these lines because neither of us could physically type if our IQ was below about 65.

    Oh, and this man is a well-respected tour guide we are speaking of. He once lived in America and stated that she was incompetent and dumb as she failed to seek any knowledge of Egypt.

    YASSS IAN Drag THESE THINGS. there are at least 2-3 songs on Each album beyonce’s recorded that SHE DOES not have credit for lmaoo! And Every Album Booklet I OWN does not list Who vocally arranged a song, It usually Has Produced by, Engineered By, Written By, and Recorded at (insert Studio name and location of studio here). So Whoever said that failed miserably and is obviously not as versed in music as they thought.

    So finally someone explains with plain of details the truth about beyonce. Not that we didn´t know she can´t write. WTF, she can´t talk!!! Really this was funny. Stans still thinking Beyonce is in a Mariah, Michael, Whitney level???? She doesn´t write and she doesn´t have the voice the others I mentioned have so… and her records are lesser too (even with all that writers working for her). Really Mariah haters must be pressed as hell this whole week. Oh and Whitney or other artists that don´t write their songs don´t have the nerve to put their names as songwriters. So explanations from Beyonce fans are just painful and useless.

    At the end of the concert, I did hear her say said things. However, to the general public which does not attend her concerts, not a word is mentioned of her management and production crew. Therefore, it seems that she wants to keep them “under wraps”.
    Too bad the general public DOES attend her concerts (that’s who buys the tickets – and they ACTUALLY buy them, they aren’t GIVEN away like some artists). And yes, she wants to keep them “under wraps”, that’s why she shouts them out for MILLIONS to hear and puts together primetime specials showcasing they work they do WITH HER.

    “Well written sentence. First of all, “sucking d***” does not agree together. Sucking followed by a noun would require said noun to be plural. If not, a subordinating conjunction of sorts, a, is required.”
    “A” is not a subordinating conjunction, it is an article (a special category of adjective). When we say “sucking d***”, we may easily be referring to someone who is sucking ONE d***, or sucking multiple d****. We are referring to the act of “sucking d***”.

    A songwriter: is an individual who writes both the lyrics and music to a song. Someone who solely writes lyrics may be called a lyricist, and someone who only writes music may be called a composer.

    There you have it, Bey is more of a Composer that specializes in Vocal arrangements, production & Harmonies (which is also equally important), rather than a lyricist (BTW, she actually wrote much of the lyrics to her songs like DIL, Daddy, Survivor & Ave Maria.)

    It doesnt take a Rocket Scientist to write songs, Even BRITNEY SPEARS has writing credits.

  137. jasminee December 16, 2010

    DEAD. the way you went on about this interview..SMH. I thought it was about to be some CRAZY s*** about Beyonce..like, she f**** for tacks or some s***. BYE.

    as a stan, not a delusional one, I know Beyonce doesnt write all the s*** she claims to write. who does? CERTAINLY not any of these pop chicks in the game. but if writers are dumb enough to just GIVE her the rights to their songs, like he claims, then so be it. MOVING ON..

  138. carl December 16, 2010

    That’s funny but if u know your research we all KNOW Bey didn’t write Love in this club part II, EVERY songwritter has a group of writers. Hell Keri didn’t even write half her first album on her own. For someone who is a budding producer wanting to work with Bey, he sureeeeee as hell spilt the beans too much! He should of said it in a better way… lets just hope he didn’t ruin his chance because Love in this club part II was hot ish!

  139. Iantuition December 16, 2010

    Beyoncé’s not on a Mariah, Michael, Whitney level… thank GOD. She’s above them. She’s an actual TRAINED vocalist, and she’s alive :))

    Let us all take a moment to CACKLE @ her not having the voice of Michael (or Mariah.. or WHITNEY)

    Let us all take a moment to HOWL @ talking and writing being the same thing.

  140. jasminee December 16, 2010

    #1 Beyonce NEVER claimed to write LITC. #fail Trent.

    #2 Mariah Carey doesnt sing live MOST of the time, even though shes a VOCALIST. does that take away the fact that shes talented? NO. Beyonce is a singer, NOT a songwriter, If writers are willing to give her credits for a few more bucks, WHY-THE-F*** not?

    #3 I KNOW that one Rihanna stan above isnt talking s***. I bet Rihannas has never picked up a pen to even write her NAME on the piece of paper that shes TRYING to sing off. shes manufactured. and everything from her look, sound, and music is SPOON FED to her. s*** is working though, clearly, but come on. DONT DO IT.

    Trent is clearly an Undercover-Bey stan. its quite sickening. Every interview you get, you mention her name. Jazmine Sullivan, and now this? if she isnt THE S*** that she is, why do you insist on bringing her name up? so an artist can throw shade? NEVER. Beyonce has too much respect in this industry. Whereas in the 90s, what singer WASNT MaRHINO beefing with? Im only bringing up Mariah because Trent thinks shes the best thing since sliced bread. If she was, she wouldnt have slept with Tommy Mattola to get to the top..*sips tea*

  141. John December 16, 2010

    Buff… Bey stans are so pressed when they read truths that I´m laughing my ass out this whole week. I even like some Beyonce stuff but seriously….

  142. S*** December 16, 2010

    Beyonce’s Producers are her BIGGEST STANS!! LMAO. They are always Hyping stuff up, calling her the queen. Calling her A BOSS, calling the best, the Queen. I say more power to her anyway. & if it were true then they are thee ones signing over all their work to her so they are just as money hungry.

    Its like a DV victim that just said “here, heres my face, Hit Me!!”.

    Personally it doesnt make much difference to me either way, we all know what Bey is & Isnt capable of in the studio which is why she has no “Sole Writing Credit” but I hope she does one day.

    If Britney can write something this great all by herself:

  144. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Trent why don’t you ask these people about your fave Mariah Carey. Her songwriting has been in question to:

    Mariah Carey’s in trouble again regarding plagiarism.

    A California appeals court has done the one thing Carey must fear most in life, aside from having to do business with Tommy Mottola again: It’s reinstated a dismissed case and given two songwriters who claim Carey plagiarized them a chance to go ahead with their case.

    The song in question is “Thank God I Found You,” a No. 1 hit Mariah had in 1999 with the group Xscape singing back up and Jermaine Dupri credited as producer.

    Songwriter Seth Swirsky — who’s got 30 gold and platinum records and is married to the head of EMI Music Publishing — says that “Thank God” is in fact a re-doing of “Just One of Those Love Songs,” a track he and Warryn Campbell wrote for Xscape.

    A chain exists linking Dupri and Xscape (featuring regular Carey back-up singer Kandi Burruss) to Carey. But more interestingly, Swirsky — who is also well-known as a writer of baseball books — may have the smoking gun.

    When he first discovered that he’d been ripped off, he called the studio where Carey recorded the song, and requested a copy of the work tape that was used when Carey was composing with producers Jimmy Jam Harris and Terry Lewis.

    “You can hear Mariah saying to them, I have a tune stuck in my head,” Swirsky told me yesterday. “They don’t know, they’re just writing down what she says.”

    Work tapes and notebooks of writing sessions have haunted Carey in other plagiarism cases, of which there have been plenty over the years.

    One contentious, unresolved case — morally, if not legally — involved the song “Hero.” Christopher Selletti, a limo driver, claimed that he wrote the lyrics as a poem, then handed them to his passenger, R&B legend Sly Stone, who in turn passed them to Carey.

    Selletti was overpowered by Carey’s lawyers at every turn through an arduous process, and the case was dismissed over and over by federal judge Denny Chin.

    Nevertheless, questions linger, since Carey’s defense was that she was commissioned to write the song as the theme for a Dustin Hoffman movie of the same name. But the movie “Hero” was released six weeks before Carey’s workbook says she wrote the song.

    Carey also got into trouble with a song she called “Can’t Let Go.” Writers Sharon Taber and Ron Gonzalez said it was their song, “Right Before My Eyes.” Carey paid out $1 million to them in a settlement stipulating that no plagiarism ever took place.

    On the work tape for that song, Carey tells collaborator Walter Afanasieff: “It’s too much like our other song. … What was the section from the George Michael thing?” At another point: “You know what doing it this, this way that I was thinking is more like a Janet Jackson thing where it’s like … not that I want to be like her. …”

    Before she spent the $1 million to make the Taber-Gonzalez case go away, Carey sent then-manager Randy Hoffman, partner of her then-husband Tommy Mottola, to see back-up singer Billy T. Scott, who had evidently played “Right Before My Eyes” for her.

    Hoffman went in with a wire and recording device, hoping to get Scott to contradict himself. The tape transcript wound up in the public court record, and I got to hear it a few years ago.

    “Your actions speak louder than words,” Scott — who was also offered his own gospel album by Sony, according to sources — told an unsuccessful Hoffman at one point. “They always have.”

    Carey has several other blots on her record in the songwriting department, including lifting the music from Maurice White’s famous hit by the Emotions, called “Best of My Love,” and re-recording it without his permission or knowledge as “Emotions.” White called his lawyers, who secured a hefty payment.

    “Sampling is one thing,” White said, “but she took the whole song.”

    Carey and company paid roughly half a million dollars to Detroit songwriter Kevin McCord; a musicologist had testified that “Make It Happen,” which was credited to Carey and C&C Music Factory, had heavily borrowed from McCord’s song, “I Want to Thank You,” which had been a minor hit for Alicia Myers some years earlier — albeit recorded in a different key.

    But Mariah has quite possibly met her match in Seth Swirsky, who says, “I don’t consider her a bona fide songwriter.” Unlike the writers in these other cases, he has the resources and the resumé to keep fighting for his rights.

    “I’m trying to defend one of my children,” he says.

    Again, unlike in the other cases, Swirsky’s other “children” are famous, including “Tell It to My Heart” for Taylor Dayne, and “Love Is a Beautiful Thing” for Al Green — currently heard in an Almay commercial.

    He’s had songs recorded by Celine Dion, Rufus Wainwright, Smokey Robinson and Air Supply. His own new album, “Instant Pleasure,” full of Beatlesque pop songs, can be heard at http://www.sethsroom.com.

    How much pen to paper has Mariah been putting? Will you ask SoundZDope that question.

  146. John December 16, 2010

    Stans keep on not bringing arguments, only insulting people when they read truths. I haven´t insulted anybody. Beyonce has no reached anything close to the succes or talent MJ, Whitney or Mariah have/had. That´s it. And we know she has talked about writing when she doesn´t and she puts her name when she doesn´t only that producers don´t complain cos they have their part. She has the nerve to do that when other artists that don´t write don´t do it: Celine, Whitney or hell even goat-Rihanna doesn´t.
    Beyonce is good singer but not at that level of greatness. Stay pressed cos Mariah at 40, pregnant and in 2010 (10 years after her golden decade) still slays vocally and musically the rest active b****** in the game. Her special has more viewers than Bey´s, in 2010 people. Not that she or Whitney or MJ need to do anything more to slay the rest but in fact they keep doing it. Reviews from MCIIU ABC special:

    But she’s not known for drug abuse or promiscuity or any of the truly ugly, sad byproducts of being a successful star.

    5.) She reminds us of what a diva is, and why she’s the last one standing
    What’s a diva? Lady Gaga is not a diva. Rihanna is not a diva. A diva is a larger-than-life personality, yes; a woman with charisma beyond measure, but more than anything, she’s a voice, and above all, THE voice. She doesn’t need fancy stage setups, props, pyrotechnics, elaborate costumes, or statement music videos. She doesn’t need to be racy or controversial or reference obscure art scenes and design influences. For the true diva, it’s just her and the microphone, standing on stage, singing her heart out and in turn making yours jump right out of your chest. Mariah is not by any means the only diva, but she’s definitely the only still-relevant, functional diva. Dear Whitney’s been in and out of rehab and reality television, while Cher and Celine have (for the most part) been hiding out in Vegas. Meanwhile, the young crop of power voices are busy running around with their heads chopped off trying to rule the word. By the way, Lady Gaga may have created a strong army of loyal “Little Monsters,” but Mariah Carey had given her fans a pet name way before it was cool, affectionately referring to her following as her “lambs.”

    For now, though, Mariah Carey sits happily atop the Diva throne, reminding everyone that not many people can captivate and command an audience without moving an inch quite like her and that sometimes less is more. Except when it comes to glitter, bling and falsettos. In that case, more is always more.

    Last night, the very pregnant pop diva premiered her ABC holiday special, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas To You, and it did not disappoint in the anti-Scrooge category. It very successfully put me in the holiday spirit! The highlights were many but here’s a guide to the three most important moments from the Carey Christmasfest:

    • The diva’s special-opening rendition of sleigh-bell and school yard-chant happy new single “Oh, Santa!” was the perfect kick-off for the evening. This thumpy, joyful tune proves: Mariah just wants to have fun!

    • The launch of Mariah Carey’s duet of “O Come All Ye Faithful” with her opera-singer mother Patricia Carey. It becomes a diva-off, with both reaching the rafters for the highest note in history. Who wins? You can be the judge of that.

    • Mariah closes out the night with her Christmas standard, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” If that doesn’t put you in the spirit, then nothing will. There’s simply few things out there that are this joyful.

    JOHN says: Stay mad

  147. Tasha December 16, 2010

    What pisses me off is you see Beyonce working in the studio adding stuff to her songs, and she has always given people credit. I dont’ know one gotdamn artist that sit up in every interview and list every single person that contributed to all their songs every time they speak about it. So why is Beyonce the only one under that requirement? To me, if you’re one of the songwriters on your song like Beyonce you’re supposed to have some kind of contract. I think what it is some of these jealous ass producers want her to sign over a 100% and don’t want her to get even 20% and leave the track as is. I’ve never heard a demo that Beyonce recorded later that sounded exactly the same. She makes changes to it. If I Was a Boy is the only exception and she didn’t take any credit for that song, as evidenced by the credits in the album.

  148. John December 16, 2010

    Are Bey stans really trying to bring Mariah´s songwriting career down?? Really?? I know today it´s not the day just after we finally openly hear what the truth about Beyonce musical greatness is. Seriously I just can´t. At least try to defend her at something that she is one iof the best: as an entertainer. But not musically or vocally crazy stans

  149. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Yes, John let’s see if you could say that if we didn’t have illegal downloading. Everybody knows that it’s affecting the music industry. Making it impossible for current artists to have the sales of past artists. That’s why your argument is invalid to me. Beyonce has just as much talent as MJ and Mariah, and she definitely has made a huge impact. That’s the only reason why this article is even being debated now.

  150. Tasha December 16, 2010

    People trip me out saying oh well the way Beyonce speaks she couldn’t write. Beyonce speaks fine. I mean seriously did MJ sound like a genius when he spoke. He couldn’t even properly defend himself when somebody asked him question about the molestation charges. None of the Jacksons knew who to speak articulately enough defend him from those charges. Did any of you watch the interview that MJ did with Oprah? Again, was he super articulate. I love MJ, but damn I’m tired of people having blinders on when they want to.

  151. Tasha December 16, 2010

    I actually love Mariah, too, but I’m getting sick of people always trying to come at Beyonce over some b******* that they let other people get away with.

  152. Tasha December 16, 2010

    No, John nobody’s trying to bring Mariah’s writing career down. My point is Trent likes Mariah, but he’s not trying to question anybody about how much Mariah writes. You dig.

  153. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Seriously, John maybe we need to hear what kind of contract Mariah had with the other songwriters in her group.

  154. S*** December 16, 2010

    @ John

    You’re entitled to believing Mimi to be a better vocalist than Bey but you ARE NOT entitled to make bey seem Less than she is vocally, Good is not the word to describe Beyonce in any sense. She is a GREAT Singer & Performer.

    & that musically part is Pure OPINION, that is so debatable. I dont care about #1s(Mimim) or Grammys(Beyonce). Just like Xtina I think Mariah’s Ballads are YAWN BORING & all her Uptempos are just LAME. I do like some of her Emancipation material but her last 2 albums are Str8 GARBAGE.

    Musically Bey shits all over every b**** Out, Only Rihanna can compete muically though her most recent Hits arent that good & neither is her album but Loud shits all over Mimis last 2 sorry ass albums.

  155. John December 16, 2010

    @ Tasha
    Don ´t fool yourself. Of course I know it is impossible for current artists to reach the sales of past artists cos of the download era, but sales are not the only way to meassure the succes: are u trying to say beyonce succes is comparable to the bodyguard era or 80´s MJ or Mariah´s Music box- daydream??? You are clearly very young. BTW what the f*** have to do that with anything. We are talking about Beyonce musical skills, that are happening to be none compared to what they made us believe until now. She has the same as Rihanna. Of course beyonce is a good singer and excellent entertainer and Rihanna is a goat though. You can see from my words I´m a balanced person. Just saying the truths
    Another example, in Bey´s era Mariah has gone 6 times platinium with an album, Bey´s most succesful album in USA sold how much exactly??

  156. Tasha December 16, 2010

    I actually prefer Beyonce’s voice to Mariah”s. Not everybody think that whistle notes are the end all and be all of singing.

  157. Tasha December 16, 2010

    That’s for John who said people shouldn’t try to defend Beyonce’s singing or music.

  158. S*** December 16, 2010

    @ John

    Oh Please, Beyonce’s MUSICALITY is just as if not sharper than Mariahs.

    & we are talking about Music, Talent & Greatness Not Success but yes Bey is Comparable to Mariah on BOTH fronts. Does Mariah have 16 Grammys??

    & dont say they werent deserved cause Mariah has a Select Few #1s that have me scratching my damn head…

    Kenneth ‘Soundz’ Coby Twitter: “Haha at all the stans, man I gotta watch what I say on interviews, didn’t mean any harm, it looks bad on black and white #WELCOMETODASHOWBIZ” about 5 hours ago via Echofon

  159. Tasha December 16, 2010

    John, it’s mostly illegal downloading. People getting music for free that is lessening the sales of current artists. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to know that’s the issue.

  160. James December 16, 2010

    Singers SING songs. Songwriters WRITE songs!

    Singer-songwriters do both…

    I’ve always identified Beyonce as singer…

    What’s the big deal people?

  161. Cj Phara December 16, 2010

    Do people fail to realize that BEYONCE GISELLE KNOWLES is one of the ultimate legends in the making…Im NO ONES STAN or barely a FAN..my thing is music history and research. Out of the urban female acts that is still and has been relevant for over a decade and have achieved crossover success not only in music BUT films, breaking racial barriers w/ endorsement deals, world-tours and more… AND keep in mind SHE is one of the few who CAN REALLY SING….like he said before, she does things other artist cant do…she arranges melodies and more..that girl has had an ear…(meaning she knows her music notes and how to sing them and NAIL them)…now ciara..she has to work extra hard..b/c she isnt the best singer in the world…She probably stays in the studio early in the a.m…why would she come glamed up like nicki manaj …Like Missy Elliot said you either have to know how to really sing, or really dance in the music world..now Rihanna…her vocal has improved..is she a strong vocalist..NO..but she has a better pitch and control then Ciara..and I’ll even go to add Keri Hilson to that list….

  163. PAM December 16, 2010

    @Perry, keep preaching to these fools, and for the person who said Beyoncé dumb, a least she is a wealthy and powerful dumb b****. Do a search on Oprah Winfrey who is one of the most influential people in the world, and see what she said about Beyoncé last week. I guess Oprah is a Stan also…people are just upset that artist like Rihanna, Ciara, etc. doesn’t get the respect that Beyonce gets, and Rihanna is not that good of a singer…anybody can sound good on a track…example, Kim from the real house wives of Atlanta, she is one of the worst singer ever, but on a track she sounds good, so don’t say Rihanna sounds good on a track because that means nothing. Another thing, Rihanna last tour bombed…check billboard, and her last album only sold 2.7 million WW check media traffic, just thought I will point that out even-though the article doesn’t mention it.

  164. Tasha December 16, 2010

    I’m still pissed that Grapejuice paid somebody that didn’t even work with Beyonce to say what he said. Grapejuice and these no name producer got the audacity to try to talk about having integrity.

  165. PAM December 16, 2010

    I can’t believe this fool is talking about a song that was released back in 2004. I hope Beyonce doesn’t work with his dumbass.

  166. Jimbob December 16, 2010

    You are all missing the point! Everybody keeps focusing on Love In This Club but what Soundz also pointed out after that is that BEYONCE DOESN’T WRITE ANY OF HER SONGS!

    Beyonce needs to give back all of those Grammys where she got credited as a writer because she doesn’t deserve them. She is a fraud and will never be better than Alicia Keys, Lauryn Hill or Mariah (true songwriters).

    Thanks for such an insightful interview Trent! I was hoping for more Brandy info but I still learned a lot.

  167. Tasha December 16, 2010

    If a song was only lyrics then that’s all we would hear on the radio. We hear lyrics, melodies and harmonies. All of that constitutes songwriting. Again, it seems like Beyonce is the only one that has had to write every lyric that she has ever sung to be classified a songwriter. She is a singer and a songwriter. That video that she talked about everything in is good proof of how hard she works in crafting her songs. She’s just not walking in there and singing anything given to her.

  168. SohhJavier December 16, 2010

    Im loving these interviews guys keep it up!! I loved what he said about kelly if there is anybody that should be next to beyonce is Kelly wow so true I think michelle should be there too they should all be top bicthes in the game and 2011 they will show why they were the best…I cant waitand to top it off he said he gave her songs that stick to your bones which means the goosebump factor hits hits now thats what Im talking bout but kelly has always had great hits just lack of promotion if u ask me and less consistent performances but I guess she got the memo at starfloor 2010 if u dont bring it stay at home…

  169. chachilewinsky December 16, 2010

    Okay first off some of ya’ll sound really un – educated ! Mr sounds or w.e the f*** his name is Only wants to work with beyonce over Mariah because Beyonce’s album is already in the works so he wants to get on it DUH ! Mariah just released an album a month ago & she gonna release any soon she prego HELLO & another reason he picked Beyonce over Mc is because as he said..its hard to Get to An artist of MC’s Level he will need a really Big hit..which Means…MARIAH is in a lane of her own !!!! She’s The HBIC (Head B**** In Charge) !!! & For the dumb asss who wanted to talk about Mc’s last 2 albums being a flop/ horrible…Ummmm do Your f****** research !! Mariah has been in the Game 20 years…she put in work !!! She’s already an ICON if she has a flop oh well her label aint gonna drop the queen !! She’s allowed to have bumps along the road…!! Mc got like 13 studio albums & out of 13 of them Only 3 didn’t really do that Good….which means 10 of them did BEYOND AMAZING !!! When I seee beyonce with 10 amazing studio albums Holla at Me..s*** when I see One of beyonce’s albums Go Diamond which Means selling 10 million plus Holla at Me !! S*** Mariah’s “emancipation of mimi” alone sold more then beyonce last 2 albums put together -_- so get your Facts right !!!! Do Not Come for Mariah Carey when she paved the way for beyonce !! Beyonce said herself —> “Mariah’s voice is a gift from god” – Beyonce !!! So don’t come for the head b**** in charge MIMI & another thing I really could care less if beyonce writes her songs or not. A lot of artist don’t write who cares..I just don’t like the fact that she gets credit for it !!! & as for him giving rihanna an 8 or 9 as a vocalist he needs to sit his ass down…she’s a 7 & don’t get me started on ciara & keri hilson !!!!!!

  170. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Jimbob, I guess you happened to skip over the fact that SoundzDope has NEVER worked with Beyonce. He could be a petty hater just like you.

  171. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Alicia Keys has had some suits about songwriting. She has more protection under Clive Davis. It’s nice little YouTube video that shows how many songs that Alicia Keys has borrowed from. James Brown and Rick James called her out about it.

  172. Jimbob December 16, 2010

    @Tasha

    Soundz did work with Beyonce before! He produced Love In This Club 2 so don’t you think that they would have met? You are such a blind stan that you completely missed that bit of reasoning.

    Beyonce & her lying ass must be stopped! #TeamAlicia #TeamMariah #TeamArtistsWithRealTalent

  173. Tasha December 16, 2010

    C or whatever your name is.. SoundZDope probably got turned down from working with Beyonce maybe why he decided to give this little interview for some pocket money. Mariah has said nice things about Beyonce, too, like she’s a sweet girl and talented.

  174. HA December 16, 2010

    does it matter if beyonce writes her stuff? lol it really doesnt…she still kill everything she does…although im not a huge fan, ANYONE can say that about her! and as far as usher “taking keri off the song” o_O the dumbest thing ive heard, keri is a songwriter, SHE WROTE FOR OTHER PEOPLE, of course she always gives HER music to everyone else, i dont get why shes being shaded.

  175. Tasha December 16, 2010

    JimBob, I hope you read the part that he said that he didn’t work with Keri on LITC2. How is that possible if he’s the producer and she was the writer? I meant that he has never worked on a song that Beyonce actually has written on. Beyonce never claimed to write LITC2. Did you not read the credits that have been posted over and over. So get the hater crust out of your eye.

  176. John December 16, 2010

    @Jimbob
    Thank God someone has common sense. Beyonce needs to give bak the grammys she won as a songwriter, and keep only the best vocal performance ones. Alicia, Lauryn deserves them cos she´s songwriter. And so does Mariah, she deserves to have some more though

    @ s***
    nobody is going to take u seriously after this statement of yours:
    Musically Bey shits all over every b**** Out, Only Rihanna can compete muically though her most recent Hits arent that good & neither is her album but Loud shits all over Mimis last 2 sorry ass albums.

    I understand people defending Beyonce´s music and voice but Rihanna´s? NEXT

  177. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Beyonce didn’t have to be in a room with him for him to produce vocals if that’s what he even did on the track. That song Airplanes by B.o.B and the girl from Paramore. They never met until they performed for the first time.

  178. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Well, John Mariah needs to give back her Grammys and #1s. Hell, Lauryn Hill does, too, since producers tried to take all the credit from her as well.

  179. Tasha December 16, 2010

    John, would you like for me to find the article about Lauryn Hill’s producers saying she didn’t do all the stuff on Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I found one for you about Mariah. It’s actually a few more I can post about Mariah if you like.

  180. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Keri Hilson is in a writing group called The Clique. She doesn’t write alone. I would like to know how much she is actually writing. If that Fuc Me song is any indication of her writing ablitilies. It’s nothing to really brag about.

  181. Tasha December 16, 2010

    I love artists like Mariah, Lauryn, etc…but again don’t have effing blinders on when it comes to certain artists.

  182. chachilewinsky December 16, 2010

    I Hope yall dumb asses read what I posted ! Cause I spoke the truth…I had to educate some of you bastards & one more thing before I leave…Didn’t beyonce become the first black female artist to win a song writer of the year award ? YUP she did…if only they Knew that chick aint write them damn songs -_- !!! I’m so over ppl on this Beyonce band wagon…she’s a wonderful entertainer but lets be real..who the f*** will be knocking get me bodied in 10 years ???? NOBODY !!!!! Where the f*** is the Timeless music at….I’m tired of shaking my ass alll the time, I can only dance but so much ! I need her to go in the studio & Make timeless music ! Stop pretending to be a single lady when your actually Married You dumb b**** #Thatisall

  183. John December 16, 2010

    WOW, just WOW @Tasha is going crazy, at this point I don´t even understand what he/she is saying

    @Jimbob and @chachilewinski I love u both and u talk the truth

    Enough is enough with bey crazy stans, at least they should keep quiet after this interview and stop going on someone else´s musical skills

  185. h December 16, 2010

    UH these rihanna stans… as if rihanna wrote SH*T lol

    Actually vocal/melody arrangements do get credits!!!

  186. SparkD December 16, 2010

    I remember BEYONCE saying on MTV that EX-MEMBERS could get credit for writing ONE WORD in a song. I guess she gets credit for writing none.

  187. SparkD December 16, 2010

    I’m glad Soundz sent that subliminal shade to Ne-Yo for giving Kelly Rowland that crap mess song Grown Woman.

  188. Tasha December 16, 2010

    John, you don’t understand what I’m saying. So you said that Beyonce needs to give back her Grammys for songwriting. But you don’t think that you fave Mariah does because I brought an article here talking about how your’s and Trent’s fave has been accused of plagiarism several times. It’s more articles out there that talk about Mariah’s songwriting. But you don’t think Mariah needs to give back s***. That’s what I mean about putting blinders on. You also mentioned Lauryn Hill and her being the truth so much. But Lauryn’s producers on Miseducation said that she didn’t give them proper credit and they took her to court. She did have to give them more credit and money. So that’s what I mean stop having effing blinders on when it comes to your faves. You understand now, boo.

  189. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Trent, yes why didn’t you ask SoundZDope about Mariah’s writing. Still waiting for an answer.

  190. Tasha December 16, 2010

    My theory is that SoundZDope got turned down by Beyonce. So that’s why Rihanna, Ciara and Kelly are such great vocalist and true artists. They’re artists who are going to let 100% go to the producers. So producers aren’t threatened by them. We all know that SoundzDope never had any meeting with Beyonce. You think he would be stupid enough to lie on her and then think he’s going to work with her. Grapejuice, how much you pay him for the interview?

  191. Tasha December 16, 2010

    Oh, I plan to bring a demo hear where Rihanna got a songwriting credit on Rated R and nothing changed in the demo. But that’s cool because she went back to letting the producers have all the royalties. That’s how some of them like it, no matter what a real artist like Beyonce actually contributes.

  192. Tasha December 16, 2010

    I plan on bringing a demo here from Rihanna’s Rated R album where she actually got a songwriting credit and didn’t change a damn thing on the demo. But since she went back and is now letting her producers get 100% again of the royalties. She’s a little puppet that producers don’t have a problem with.

  193. why he wants to work with her? December 16, 2010

    I really wonder that he wants to work with Beyonce, despite the fact that she LIES soooooo much about songwriting.
    I mean every interview with Beyonce goes ” i wrote this song for my ladies, i’m such a passionate songwriter”.. bla bla bla.
    I don’t get how producers even LOVE her like that. i mean in school you don’t like the liars too. Yuo think the liars are crazy, so u distance yuorself from them. LOL

    I wish somebody would tell her if she wants the song, she has to use it without telling the world she wrote it.. otherwise she gonna tell her lies the next 10 years on..

  194. John December 16, 2010

    @Tasha
    What u are saying doesn´t have to do anything with what we are talking about. Lauryn, Mariah or any songwriter included most famous rock bands have always had those type of court cases and fightings among them, that´s life. It doesn´t take away from them that they are songwriters and musicians. Why are u so mad that beyonce doesn´t make music at all?? The girl wanted the world believe another thing that is not the truth, i don´t know why (maybe she thinks only with her voice she is not up there with Whitney and Mariah and she is right haha). Whitney or celine never lied and don´t have the nerve to do it. In fact there are plenty of interviews where they say ‘I don´t write my songs, so they give me songs and i sing them the best i can’ (that is gloriously well of course).
    So just give it up and let´s say Beyonce is a better entertainer, leave it like that, u seem like fools

  195. SparkD December 16, 2010

    BEYONCE is NOT the kind of songwriter that Mariah Carey and Lauryn Hill happens to be. No where near their level. I don’t care how many lawsuits there are against Carey/Hill—they are writers.

    Did Lauryn Hill try to take all the credit with Miseducation—Hell, yeah! Did Carey, let Walter A. get backseat publicity with writing her songs, yes. But we know for sure, Mariah PUTS PEN TO PAPER and did NOT outsource her work throughout her career.

    AGAIN, Why is it OK for Beyonce to tell MTV, that the ex-members could get credit for writing ONE WORD, and she gets credit for NONE.

  196. SparkD December 16, 2010

    Mariah is not by any means the only diva, but she’s definitely the only still-relevant, functional diva. Dear Whitney’s been in and out of rehab and reality television, while Cher and Celine have (for the most part) been hiding out in Vegas. Meanwhile, the young crop of power voices [Beyonce] are busy running around with their heads chopped off trying to rule the word. By the way, Lady Gaga may have created a strong army of loyal “Little Monsters,” but Mariah Carey had given her fans a pet name way before it was cool, affectionately referring to her following as her “lambs.”

  197. Blasian December 16, 2010

    I love how EVERYONE knows Beyonce is the BEST in the game!

    Love how he said Beyonce or Mariah. BEYONCE! lol

  198. John December 16, 2010

    It seems we are finally making stans understand the truths. They even stopped commenting. They finally understood the credit Beyonce has is none compared to mariah, Alicia or Lauryn. I´m talking about music, not entertaining shaking asses

    Letoya and Beyonce wrote the most on The Writings On The Wall cd.

    When Letoya and Latavia was kicked out, and MTV interviewed both sides, BEYONCE SAID YOU COULD GET CREDITED WRITING ONE WORD because it was meant as shade towards Letoya/Latavia to make them look lazy.

    If Beyonce could make that claim as if other members didn’t do the work, then she needs to make that claim about herself today.

  203. Pr3ttywild December 16, 2010

    Who gives a s*** if she writes all of her own songs or what…at the end of the day who is singing them & making them hot? BEYONCE SO ALL YA’LL LAME ASS HATIN ASS BUSTAZ NEED TO STFU CAUSE I DON’T SEE YOU ON ONE TRACK & I’M DONE….

  207. BOSS December 16, 2010

    LAURYN??? REALLY????

    Hip-hop songstress Lauryn Hill was supposed to face the music today. Or, at the very least, face the musicians. Four beatmaker-songwriters who helped make the quintuple-platinum “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” filed a federal suit against Hill in November 1998. They charge that she “used their songs and production skills but failed to properly credit them for the work.” After months and months of delay, Hill won one final extension from U.S. Magistrate Ronald J. Hedges last week. But on June 21, she will be deposed as part of the discovery phase of their lawsuit.

    She will be asked, under oath, a simple question: Who wrote those songs? But just beneath that question is a far more elusive one: What is a pop song, anyway?

    The four plaintiffs — Vada Nobles, Johari Newton, Tejumold Newton and Rasheem Pugh, who make up New-Ark Entertainment — are credited on the record as performers, producers or contributors of “additional music or lyrics.” Their suit maintains that they should have received credit as songwriters and producers, a contention denied by Hill, who says she wrote and produced the entire record. Do they have a point? Well, the answer depends on what their contributions were. But it also depends on what you think a pop song is. As rock and its offspring over the last 40 years have become steadily more dependent on technology and have moved away from clear melodies and simple moon-spoon-June lyrics, the question of authorship has often become muddled; now, amid the ongoing commercial domination of sample-heavy genres like hip-hop and electronica, the questions of what constitutes a song, and who deserves credit for songwriting, have never been more complicated.

    she SETTLED…….

    Superstar Lauryn Hill recently settled a lawsuit over credit on her smash album, The Miseducation Hill, for an undisclosed amount, according to a for Sony Music Entertainment.

    Four musicians, Vada Nobles, Rasheem Pugh, Tejumold and Johari Newton, claimed Hill promised to credit them for their work, but reneged and listed herself as the solo producer.

    They were given credit for drum programming and a small amount of lyrical, instrumental and production work.

    Hill’s representatives had portrayed the lawsuit as an attempt to cash in on her enormous success.

    I think its pretty much safe to say any chance of him working with Beyonce is over after this interview. I don’t understand how he can talk so much about her songwriting process when he’s never produced one record for any of her albums, like you get outsourced one featured verse from her and you in the know now? N**** PLEASE!

    Soundz – You’re trying to hard. Stick to making basic music for basic b******. When I make my way to the hood club that serves my drink in a solo sup I’ll request one of your productions.

    Its pretty simple lesson that people refuse to learn! explains why the USA Education system is in the dumps, anywho. Definition of a SONGWRITER – A songwriter is an individual who writes both the lyrics and music to a song. Someone who solely writes lyrics may be called a lyricist, and someone who only writes music may be called a composer.

    GOOD DAY ~Sips Tea~

  215. Sabrina December 16, 2010

  216. Sabrina December 16, 2010

    sorry thief

  217. True December 16, 2010

    Wow! There are different credits for the elements that make up the creation process. Songwriting is JUST that! Songwriting! If Beyonce created melodies, not words, she should have a credit as vocal arranger or even co-producer. But, the thing is one does not get continuous royalties that way. If she did not put pen to paper she did not WRITE anything. There is just NO WAY around that fact.

    Oh! I think the reason people are bringing up “Love In This Club, Part 2” is because, surely a so-called songwriter of Beyonce’s caliber would have no problem putting together 1 simple verse for her feature. RIGHT? If she is as good as everyone makes her out to be? Yeah right, I knew it was Keri Hilson’s pen game the moment I heard it.

  218. Rayshawn December 16, 2010

    @rihannaforever I think nicki minaj is also the artist featured on “make believe” for @kellyrowland I wonder who it could be and I hope the release the song already I wonder when we could expect to hear it…Trent should have asked that question..

    AGAIN The definition of a SONGWRITER – A songwriter is an individual who writes both the lyrics and music to a song. Someone who solely writes lyrics may be called a lyricist, and someone who only writes music may be called a composer. People its NOT THAT HARD!!!!

  220. taji December 16, 2010

    @SparkD:
    That excert came from a biased mariah stan in the Atlantic and the statement makes no kind of sense. He is confusing being visible with being relevant. Mariah is a publicity ‘w****’ and thrives on the attention. If we objectively look at the facts, whitney hasn’t been to rehab since 2006- that’s over 4yrs ago and she was in only 1 reality show, harding ‘in and out’.
    Her last album, ‘I Look to you’ has sold 2.5mil WW which is double what Mariah’s last album, ‘MOIA’ and current album, ‘MCIIY’ has/will sold. Whitney’s tour although suffering from bad reviews grossed over $42mil while MAriah’s grossed $9mil. I’d say that Mariah was the irrelevant one here.

    Celine voluntarily took herself out of the game to go to Vegas where she made a ton of money and to have more kids
    Madonna may not be relevant in the US interms of sales but her last album, a greatest hits sold more than both of Mariah cds worldwide so I would not repaste that excerpt anywhere.

  221. africa December 16, 2010

    this soundz guy is really dumb. he must be new in the game bcos he does not know how to do interviews. how can he say that about beyonce when he has never worked with her. i hope beyonce never works with him. beyonce does contribute a lot to her songs and she will continue to be a success.

    p.s. if beyonce is that bad why would he still want to work with her?

  222. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

  229. Migrator December 16, 2010

    @TAJI
    If you’re going to compare any of Mariah’s recent albums to Whitney’s comeback album, it would have to be her comeback album as well: TEOM, which sold over 10 million copies worldwide so I don’t see your point.
    Mariah is truly the “only still-relevant, functional diva”. You kids claim that her recent albums have been flopping, when she’s been in the business for 20 years. In other words, do you really expect her to move as much units as the 90’s, especially in the industry’s current condition? We’re talking about her 13th studio album for for goodness’ sake. People like Leona Lewis and Christina Aguilera are the ones who should NOT be flopping this early on in their careers. In addition, you forget that Mariah has always been an INTERNATIONAL artist. You can’t base your judgement on US sales alone when it comes to her. In 2010, Mariah performed in Brazil to a crowd of 100k, and another large crowd in Singapore. She’s the most successful American artist in Asia. AND she was invited and got paid MILLIONS of dollars to go perform in front of the pyramids in Egypt (which is a huge honour) while Beyoncé decided to go there on her own, and were unwelcomed by the country.

    Song writing does not include melodies. That is composing. You all act as if she composes every song just because Neyo mentioned that she did on the Irreplaceable song.

    It even said recently in the New York Times that she wrote the song Ego. Which was written by Chrisette Michele. And that she was surprised to find Bee’s name on the credit list.

    She was sued for Baby Boy as well as Cater to You.

    Get ready for KELLY ROWLAND in 2011!!

  233. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    You should not Overestimate Rihanna Sales. It would mean the album has to sell over
    B’Day 6Mil
    ISF 7,5 Mil

    I do not think her sales are going to be that high as after already having two songs out the album has not shifted 2 Mil world wide. It would mean she has to release 5-6 songs inclusive a re-release.

  234. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    @ MISS IMPARTIAL

    YOU ARE INCORRECT SWEETIE

    CHART NEWS GAVE AN UPDATE ON IASF WORLD NUMBERS

    AS OF LAST WEEK IT STANDS AT 6.7 MILLION WORLDWIDE.

  235. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    @ MISS IMPARTIAL

    HUN , RIHANNA IS PROJECTED TO SELL BETWEEN 350-500K FOR THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. AS OF 4 WEEKS, LOUD STANDS AT 1.25 MILLION SOLD.

    THAT WOULD PUT HER AT A LITTLE OVER 2MILLION SOLD WORLDWIDE IN 6 WEEKS.

  236. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @THEREALNICKY

    Wow that is bad. She sold only 2.7Mil more than Brit even though she released around 7 Songs and an overkill promo.

  237. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    @ MISS IMPARTIAL

    I’M THINKING RIHANNA WILL BE CLOSE TO 3 MILLION SOLD WORLDWIDE ONCE S&M (3RD SINGLE AND NEXT WORLD SINGLE) IS RELEASED WITH VIDEO.

  238. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    @ MISS IMPARTIAL

    BEYONCE NUMBERS ARE STILL GREAT.

    THE PROBLEM WITH BEYONCE IS SHE RELEASES BAD SINGLES . SHE USUALLY HAS 3 BIG SONGS ON HER ALBUM AND THE REST ARE NOT GREAT ( TALKING ABOUT BDAY AND IASF , NOT DIL)

  239. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    Well Projected and actually going to happen are two different things.
    Katy Perry was PROJECTED to sell 500+ first week and it never happened.

    Do you know what I mean. Do not brag before the sales come in. I mean you thought the album is going to be No1 first week and it never happened.

  240. Jeffrey December 16, 2010

    First of all, Ego was a demo given to Chrisette Michelle. Chrisette didn’t write it. It was in the NY Post, not the NY Times. Chrisette said that she decided not to do the song after hearing the demo. Chrisette said that she liked Beyonce’s version of it.

    Cater 2 U thing was such crap. If you read the article the plantiff”s lawyer said that Destiny’s Child probably didn’t even know about the other song. It was the shady ass producer that maybe knew about it. Aside from having the same title and 1 word in the song the same. It wasn’t any similarities. Kelly Rowland’s and Michelle Williams’ name was also on that song as writers. SoundZDope ain’t got nothing to say about Kelly now. That’s the only writing case that Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle decided to settle in. Sometimes it’s not even worth going to court over because of the time and money involved. Trent should know about that because Mariah Carey has settled in songwriting cases probably over 15 times.

    Yeah, Beyonce was sued for Baby Boy and one other song. She won those cases. There have only been 3 lawsuits and she won 2 of them.

    Artists like Coldplay, Lauryn Hill, etc…have settled cases also.

    Artists like George Harrison of The Beatles, Led Zepellin and Prince have actually lost cases.

    So are any of these people lesser artists.

  241. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @THEREALNICKY

    That should be not an excuse an album that gets a Grammy and nominated for album of the year. The album should be full of quality songs.

  242. Kendra December 16, 2010

    @TheRealNicky

    Rated R sold 2.7 million worldwide and had about 6-7 singles release what was the problem were the songs not all that great.

    Loud isn’t at 2 million yet worldwide with 3 singles, so is it that the album isn’t that great.

  245. Kendra December 16, 2010

    I think this is some lying D-list producer that the Grapejuice paid to lie. He has never worked on an album that was Beyonce and she actually did write on. Songwriting is lyrics and melodies that’s how the recording industry defines it.

  246. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @Jeffery

    On the DC christmas album it said that she wrote Silent Night.
    And she also said that she wrote Irreplaceable. And do you know of how many of the songs Bee done have been sample. This highlights the undeserving GRAMMYS:

    SAMPLED SONGS BY BEE:
    Dangerously In Love
    “Crazy in Love” – samples “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)” by Chi-Lites
    “Naughty Girl” – samples “Love to Love You Baby” by Donna Summer
    “Baby Boy” – samples “No Fear” by O.G.C. (interpolation)
    “Be With You” – samples “I’d Rather Be With You” by Bootsy’s Rubber Band, “Ain’t Nothing I Can Do” by Tyrone Davis, & “Strawberry Letter 23” by The Brothers Johnson
    “That’s How You Like It” – samples “I Like It” by DeBarge (resung lyrics)
    “Gift From Virgo” – samples “Rainy Day” by Shuggie Otis
    “Daddy” – samples “So Emotional” by Whitney Houston (uncredited)
    “’03 Bonnie & Clyde” – samples “If I Was Your Girlfriend” by Prince & “Me And My Girlfriend” by 2Pac
    “What’s It Gonna Be” – samples “Do It Roger” by Zapp
    B’Day
    “Suga Mama” – samples “Searching for Soul” by Jake Wade and the Soul Searchers
    “Upgrade U” – samples “Girls Can’t Do What the Guys Do (And Still Be a Lady)” by Betty Wright
    “Resentment” – samples “Think” (Instrumental) by Curtis Mayfield
    Other Songs
    “Black Culture” – samples “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson

  249. Jeffrey December 16, 2010

    @The Kiddz

    That could be true. I was just trying to make the point that Chrisette Michelle didn’t write the song as somebody tried to claim up in here. Beyonce does contribute to her songs almost every big name songwriter and producer that she has worked with her has says that. She got kudos from Prince and Bono for her musical knowledge.

  250. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    @ KENDRA

    PEOPLE JUST CANT GET ENOUGH OF HER…

  251. Jeffrey December 16, 2010

    Rihanna has 3 singles off the album What’s My Name, Only Girl and Raining Men. I’ve already started to hear that last song on the radio.

  252. taji December 16, 2010

    @Migrator:

    I’m really not interested in this thread but to keep it real, Mariah’s return after ‘Glitter’ was ‘Charmbracelet’ so TEOM is not her ‘true’ comeback. In addtiion sales in 2007, 2008 were much higher than sales in 2009 and 2010 as we are witnessing.

    My point was that the excert was biased and incorrect. REgarding mariah’ s concert in Brazil, it was not 100k she was in front of and it was not a dedicated concert to her, it was part of an annual festival. Whitney has done private events as well but she is a very private person and doesn’t broadcast.

    Again, based on what the WRITER wrote This WEEk in regards to ‘relevancy’ the sales #s and tour#s does not bare that out although I highly agree that Leona and the likes should not be flopping so early in their careers.

    Whitney and Mariah are true ledgends!

  253. Jeffrey December 16, 2010

    @MissImpartial

    She is listed as one of the writers on Silent Night because she made changes to it. She said that she wrote Irreplaceable one time in concert as crowd interaction. In interviews before that concert, Beyonce was talking about how Neyo help her write it. Neyo said that Beyonce did write the melody. Who cares about samples? Kanye samples, Mariah Carey samples and about every other R&B and rap act does, too.

  254. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @ JEFFERY

    This is a list of songs that have been released by Beyoncé Knowles that sample other songs instrumentally and/or lyrically.

    And it is 80% of her songs.
    And not to mention how many VIDEOS THAT SHE REDID AND STATES AS “INSPIRATION”.
    NO ORIGINALITY IN HER CAREER.

  255. Jeffrey December 16, 2010

    And when I say crowd interaction, I mean like “I wrote this song for the ladies.” Some people wanted to act like that was such a big deal when all she was doing was saying a standard thing that most artists say in concert to get the audience going. Like I said I remember on MTV before the album came out, Beyonce gave credit to Neyo ffor helping her write the song. Technically, she was right for saying that she was a writer on the song because Neyo even said that she wrote the melody. Neyo’s name wouldn’t be on the credits if she was trying to take credit from him.

  256. THEREALNICKY December 16, 2010

    @Miss Impartial

    A whole 11 songs out of career of 100s of songs. 1 song is on Jay’s album and Black Culture was her goofing around in the studio. It was not a real song. So we down to a whole 9 songs. So Kanye is not original or have no creativity because 100% of his stuff is sampled. How much you wanna bet that Mariah Carey has more samples than 11. How much you wanna bet that Tupac has more than 11 samples. People have redid Beyonce’s videos also. At least, Beyonce tells you where she gets a lot of her inspiration from. Oh, it’s a nice video on YouTube that shows how Bob Fosse influenced MJ also. Everybody draws inspiration from others.

  261. Jeffrey December 16, 2010

    @Miss Impartial

    I got this from dictionary. com about songwriting.
    Main Entry: songwriting
    Part of Speech: n
    Definition: writing the music and words of songs; also written [ song writing ], song-writing
    http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/songwriting

  262. Gina December 16, 2010

    Trent, did you ask him about Mariah Carey’s songwriting because we know that you love her?

  263. Gina December 16, 2010

    I don’t know how some low level producer that has never worked on a Beyonce album knows what she does or doesn’t do. When producers that she actually works with say she gives a lot of input to her albums. These are big name songwriters and producers that have their pick of working with anybody. They wouldn’t have to work with her and give her credit if she wasn’t really doing what they say she is.

  264. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Gina
    Yes he’s NEVER worked with Beyonce but somehow he knows what goes on when she’s in the studio get the HELL out of here LMAO!

  265. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @JEFFREY

    My point is that is quite a lot of songs that are sampled which have been huge and she received awards for them that is like a second hand music. I mean these people have indirectly contributed to her career and awards and kind a deserve to have those Grammys .

    Sweet Dreams was a sample too.

  266. the kiddz December 16, 2010

    @MISSIMPARTIAL

    Like I’ve said before, we all know Beyonce didn’t write the original lyrics to Silent Night, but the ARRANGEMENTS are completely different. It’s a completely different version of Silent Night; Bee gets credit for those arrangements, which are a part of the song-writing process.

    And what case are you trying to prove with her sampling 60’s-80’s soul/funk songs? That’s her lane, she brings old school funk and makes it club ready and modern.

  267. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    What sample was Sweet Dreams ?

  268. Blasian December 16, 2010

    When an Aritst does the VOCAL ARRANGEMENT it counts as a writing credit

  269. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN

    How do you know that he never worked with her as from the interview you can gather he did.
    The probably have worked together and the songs did not make the cut.
    You do hear Bee say she records 100 songs for her last album and only 12 made the final cut.

  270. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @Blasian

    Michael Jackson Beat it

  271. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    He said it. Can’t you understand what you’re reading

    Okay…time for our next two artists. Who would you choose to work with: Beyonce or Mariah Carey?

    “Beyonce. I’m supposed to be meeting her soon to play her some records so Beyonce for sure. I set my mind on every artist that I want to work with. I wanted to work with Mariah about 2 years ago and I made 10 records for her.”

    Meaning he hasn’t worked with her before and also said it on twitter that’s how I know

  272. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    Child Sweet Dreams is NOT no sample BEAT IT

    The electronic baseline is compared to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”.

    It’s NOT the same

  273. Yeezy taught me! December 16, 2010

    At the end of the day, Beyonce sells millions of records and albums all over the world

    The bish is PAID grossing 80+ million A YEAR

    She is an excellent performer with an excellent voice and knows how to put on a show

    And of course, she will forever be shitting on ur fav, why so pressed? 😆

    Gaga+Beyonce+Britney= The Trinity of 2011, are u all ready?!?

  274. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN

    Ok I get it. But he might know the certain songwriters that have given her 20% Cut.
    Everyone in the industry knows probably Bee’s demands. Only the stans do not wanna except that. It is known to other people for YEARS.

  275. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN

    OBVIOUSLY SHE RIPPED IT OFF AND MADE IS SEEM LIKE MICHAEL JACKESON.

    USING BEE’S FAMOUS WORDS: I WAS “INSPIRED” BY MICHAEL BEAT IT BASS LINE FOR MY SONG. LOL

  276. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    I can tell you the Sky is falling does that make it true? Until you walk outside and see it for yourself

    He has no place to sit and talk about what Beyonce ddoes or doesn’t do in the studio when he’s never had the change to work with her

    Only song he did was Love In The Club Part 2 which I might add the song was already done with Keri Hilson Vocals on it but Usher kicked of her off to have Beyonce on the the record that’s not working with an Artist

  277. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    She didn’t rip anything off sounding alike and being the same or to DIFF things hun .

    And for the record Beyonce didn’t Prod. Sweet Dream Jim Jonsin did and once again Sweet Dreams is not a sample to BEAT IT

  278. BEYONSLAY December 16, 2010

    WHO CARES IF SHE DOESN’T WRITE HER RECORDS..SHE PEROFRMS THE HELL OUT OF THEM AND THATS WHAT REALLY MATTERS…WHO ELSE COULD’VE PULLED “SINGLE LADIES” OFF…SHE STILL A HARDWORKER…SHE’S THE ONE WHO HAS TO GET UP ON THAT STAGE AND MAKE THOSE SONGS SOUND GOOD..AND IF SHE WANTED TO WRITE HER OWN SONGS, SHE COULD..BUT SHE WANTS REALLY REALLY BIG RECORDS AND SHE KNOWS WHAT SOUNDS GOOD..KERI HILSON IS A WRITER BUT SHE GOT NE-YO TO WRITE A FEW SONGS FOR HER..AND SHE CAN’T EVEN PERFORM HER OWN ISH PROPERLY..VOICE ALL OVER THE PLACE…YALL ACTING LIKE BEYONCE IS MILLI VANILLI’ING YALL BECAUSE SHE DON’T WRITE HER OWN SONGS…SHE BRING TOO MUCH TO THE TABLE FOR YALL TO BE THAT PETTY

  279. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASISAN

    I am done I want to point out what I wanted. You stans are not going to accept it.

    I accept that Bee is great live and has a great voice. She was great in DC.
    But I can see her flaws and lies as well.

    I AM NOT HATING JUST STATING AS I HAVE GIVEN HER CREDIT IN HER STRENGTHS PREVIOUSLY.

  280. Heaven December 16, 2010

    If you REALLY read that interview..his motives were obvious. He kissed the ass of those he wants to work with and tried it with those he knows that he has a slim chance of doing anything with or now for sure won’t ever work with/ or again. We’ll see how much of a demand he’ll be in soon enough..some ppl don’t play. (use your imagination) lmao

  281. okkk December 16, 2010

    Stans blow everything out of porportion, didnt catch the shade at all. Beyonce is not God! This is an old story, i.e. Neyo’s “Irreplaceable” ordeal.

  282. Blasian December 16, 2010

    This is crazy!

  283. Heaven December 16, 2010

    AND I’M NOT ANYONE’S STAN.

  284. John December 16, 2010

    Wow once more since i left my last comment hours ago any of Beyonce stans has responded me with arguments so all I said is just the truth. I´m not gonna repeat now cos I wrote a lot but it´s clear they are pressed pressed really pressed… I´m enjoying this whole week a lot, not a good one for her stans hey?!!! It´s amazing how Mariah slays her career, Whitney slays her career and every other true diva or really big artist slay her career. No wonder she go the entertainer route cos musically is just a no no to be a legend

  285. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Sigh…

  286. Blasian December 16, 2010

    John
    And she got More Grammys than any of the those chick you named lmao!

  287. Blasian December 16, 2010

    F*** y’all!

  288. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN

    THOSE GRAMMYS SHOULD ALSO BE GIVEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE WRITTEN AND PRODUCED THE SONGS PREVIOUSLY.
    DON’T BRAGG ABOUT SONGS THAT HAVE EARNED GRAMMYS THAT ARE NOT ORIGINAL!!

  289. John December 16, 2010

    I swear most of Beyonce fans on here are retarded:
    It matters that she doesn´t write a f****** thing just cos she has claimed many times she does!!!!!!!!! Do u understand the difference??? Helloo!!! That´s why nobody is saying a f****** thing about Celine or Whitney, cos they are honest and it doesn´t matter cos they are among the greatest voices in pop history.
    And for the people saying also mariah or Michael or whatever artist had their sueds also: what the f*** has to do that with what we are talking about Beyonce??? Every songwriter included rock bands have had their fights and court cases, it´s usual. But that doesn´t take away from them the fact they are songwriters or coproducers or whatever since day one!! Do u understand little kids??!!!! I swear this is really annoying talking with people so retarded

  290. Blasian December 16, 2010

    #TeamBeyonce

  291. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    When you win a Grammy it goes to every that’s apart of the record . do ur homework

  292. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Mariah Carey didn’t write I Still Believe. It was a cover.

  293. Kenny December 16, 2010

    We all know she doesnt write, but will be the first artist to say “I wrote this”… I was off the bandwagon when she stated she wrote “Emotions” by the Bee Gee’s, I remember the interviewer looking at her like seriously. Beyonce’s dad set her up nicely, Beyonce is the puppet but the people behind her are the brains. Not all songwriters gives their material to Beyonce, her team takes it and releases it in hopes that funds can be exchanged without the courts. If Beyonce releases a song the public will only think of Beyonce when hearing the song, so the actual songwriter will only want money because they can not release it. BC Jean wasnt aware of Beyonce singing her song, “If I were a Boy” was on BC Jeans Myspace page for about a year, her fans was really upset because they knew her song was stolen… BC never released her version which was an ode to her grandmother. The Knowles settled out of court with her. The industry is dirty!!

  294. Blasian December 16, 2010

    O snap.

  295. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Kenny

    Please so me video where she said that? LMAO!

  296. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Kenny

    When did BC sue Beyonce? Because last time I checked she said her and Tod gave Beyonce the record lol! LMAO

  297. John December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN
    really are u retarded or wtf is it with u??? U don´t know what reading is or something. Did u not understand all the songwriters have their sueds?? That we know that?? The thing is Beyonce doesn´t write a f****** thing and she even doesn´t want, but she claims she does. Do u understand that retarded b****????? Every big legend slays her and that´s it. At least be quiet and leave this forum with dignity

  298. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    I KNOW BUT I AM SAYING SHE USED SONGS AND LYRICS OF OTHER PEOPLE. IT IS NOT HER ORIGINAL WORK. MOST SONGS ARE NOT BEEN DONE FROM SCRATCH.

    LIKE CRAZY IN LOVE

    AND I DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW SHE HAS MORE GRAMMY VOCAL AWARDS THAN WITHNEY, MARIAH, CELINE, CHRISTINA, TINA TURNER, WHO HAVE ALL BETTER VOCALS THAN HER.

    WELL MABY THE GRAMMY’S GIVE HER CUT TO ATTEND. LOL!!!!!!!!

  299. Kenny December 16, 2010

    Blasian
    You are dumb, no where in my comment did I state BC sued… re read it then lets play.

  300. RonaldMatters.com December 16, 2010

    Kenny

    Show where Beyonce said she wrote the Bee’s record ? LMAO! WAITS

  303. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Kenny

    Didn’t say Beyonce stole If I Were A Boy? How can you steal something when some GIVES it to you? lmao!

  304. Kenny December 16, 2010

    Remember, Beyonce tried to attach her name to “Listen” because it was nominated for an Oscar but the Academy declined her because she would have been the fourth name. The girl is a joke when it comes to music but she is a good stage performer.

  305. Kenny December 16, 2010

    @Blasian
    You ask her, being that you are really good friends with her and all. I dont need to provide proof because the proof is in the pudding, just like her saying she wrote “Irreplacable” for the ladies, or “If I were a Boy”, or “Cater to you”, and other songs. Didnt she take credit for Kandi’s song Soldier?

  306. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    BEE’S CAMP ARE SHADY AND POWERFUL

    WHEN THERE WERE THE DREAM GIRL AUDITIONS FANTASIA WAS PREFERED TO JHUD.
    BUT BEE’S CAMP WERE UNHAPPY AND LOBBIED FOR JHUD AS THEY DID NOT WANT ANOTHER BIG NAME FEMALE SINGER.

    I BET SHE REGRETS THAT DECISION.

  307. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    With Crazy In Love

    hook beat is sampled by Rich Harrison which prod. did the track from the 1970 song “Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So)”, originally recorded The Chi-Lites.

    Noting to deal with lyrics LOL!

  308. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN

    BUT A SONG IS NOTHING WITHOUT A BEAT AND LET’S FACE IT THE BEAT WAS NOT AS GOOD AS IT WAS THE SONG MIGHT NEVER BEEN HIT AND SHE WOULD NEVER HAVE THAT GRAMMY.

    AND IT WAS HER FIRST SOLO SONG WHICH WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE.

  309. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Kenny

    First Kandi didn’t write Soldier Rich H. prod. Sean G. Beyonce,Kelly, Michelle lol try again! LOL!

  310. Kenny December 16, 2010

    DIdnt she try to take credit for Desiree’s Kissing You? Added it to the album without the original writer/composers permission, so she had to remove her album from the shelves while it was being handled in court?

  311. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    What’s your point ? Take that up with Rich H. Do u know how many songs has samples? LOL

  312. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Kenny

    No she didn’t she was told not to do a video for the the song thank u LOL TRY AGAIN

  313. John December 16, 2010

    I´m laughing my ass out of this. And the crazy stans keep on not understanding what the issue is. Just try some more court cases of other artists before u leave this forum. It seems it gives you lots of pleasure…haha how retarded

  314. Kenny December 16, 2010

    Blasian
    Dont need to try again, there is enough material to show that she has been lying about writing music… Just admit that she doesnt write her songs… you are that consumed with her that you only see a god.

  315. Lois December 16, 2010

    Mariah & Alicia > Beyonce. Live with it!

  316. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

  321. Kenny December 16, 2010

    Blasian you are so dumb, Beyonce had to remove her albums from the shelf because Desiree wasnt having it, Also she shot a video for the song that was on her DVD…. so either way she is a liar. If you’re told not to do something and you still do it shows the respect you have for others. Beyonce paid Desiree $200k for stealing the song.

  322. Blasian December 16, 2010

    At The End Of the Day Beyonce is still the BADDEST B**** OUT THERE can’t NO ARTIST OF PERFORM THIS WOMAN AND SHE STILL TOPS THE FORBES LIST MAKE HISTORY SO SHE WINS YOU LOSE AGAIN LMAO! SHE’S COMING! B’WARE LMAO!

  323. Yodel December 16, 2010

    Beyonce needs to give back every single Grammy or give them to Mariah who deserves them!

  324. Tami December 16, 2010

    You people fight like s*** lmao either way ur fav or not is getting paid!Smh some of y’all act like u get paid to be a Stan newsflash ur fav ain’t paying ur bills or rent
    Smdh!!

  325. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    SHE MIGHT BE THE BADDEST B**** AT THE MOMENT AS HER COMPETITORS ARE RIHANNA, KERI, KATY PERRY AND KESHA. IF SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPETING WITH WITHNEY, MARIAH, AND CELINE IN THE 90 SHE WOULD BE NOWHERE. HER SONGS WOULD NEVER COMPETE WITH THEIRS. LOL IMAGINE VIDEOPHONE NEXT TO HERO, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU OR MY HEART WILL GO ON.
    SHE DOES NOT HAVE THE RESPECT THAT WITHNEY OR MARIAH CAREY HAVE..

  326. Billy December 16, 2010

    Scotty?????

    What????? I’m sure he bumped his head and meant to say Lil Kim!

  329. Vick December 16, 2010

    Mariah would never do this. Shame on you Beyonce.

  336. Trackstar December 16, 2010

    You no what…you fans are very psycho..ok so I get that you are beyonce fans, or Keri fans, or Rihanna and Ciara fans but sheesh…you guys create drama and beef…y can’t people be more supportive of all of the ladies..they are all in their own lanes…I don’t think you can attempt to even compare them because they are so different..beyonce has been around for a long time..she is good, she has earned her respect..she is entertaining, Rihanna has brought it, she’s entertaining, also sold records, Keri pen game is phenomenal, damn near had written for everyone, she is good, Ciara pen game is phenomenal, writes her music, works her ass off, sold records, by far the Janet/Michael j/usher/chris brown of the business…these r all beautiful women who are almost ever in the spotlight for drama..these r good girls…let them do what they do best which is entertain us rather than tear others down because we r fans of another because each of these ladies are the best that are in the business right now no matter who writes what and who sells the most

  337. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    No one RESPECTS The Grammys any more that’s why her here EVERY artist say I would Love to Win a Grammy LMAO!

  338. Rich December 16, 2010

    F*** Beyonce. I always knew she wasnt a true artist.

  339. Blasian December 16, 2010

    *Dad*

  340. MissImpartial December 16, 2010

    @BLASIAN

    IF SHE GETS 25 GRAMMYS. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY GOING TO SAY SHE IS MORE TALENTED THAN ARETHA. ARE YOU GOING TO SAY HER SONGS ARE ON PAR TO RESPECT. BUT THAN AGAIN YOU ARE A DELUDED STAN AND YOU WOULD SAY YES.

  341. Blasian December 16, 2010

    Trent wanna talk about Songwriting lets talk about Mariah Carey getting SUED for songwriting doesn’t she always claims she writes her music?

  342. Blasian December 16, 2010

    MissImpartial

    YOU TAKE THAT UP WITH THE GRAMMYS HUN LOL! AND WITH EVERY NEW ARTIST BIGGEST DREAM IS TO WINA GRAMMY LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO FAILED

  343. Passion Love December 16, 2010

    Aretha, Patti, even Mariah never had to steal to make a song theirs!! Beyonce was in special, ed in school, can’t even form a complete sentence, plus that dude in Egypt said this b**** was stupid!!! I don’t see how a b**** wearing a wig, being a thief is acceptable!! BEYONCE IS IRREVERENT AND ON HER WAY TO DOWN FALL!! GOD DON’T LIKE UGLY HONEY!!!

  344. the kiddz December 16, 2010

    @Blasian

    There is no need to bring Mariah into this.

    @MissImpartial

    You do realize that there are over 10,000 people on the Grammy Committee

  345. Blasian December 16, 2010

    the kiddz

    I brought Mariah In it just like HE always Bring Beyonce it somehow

    Mariah Carey didn’t WRITE her songs she’s been SUED many Times but Trent seems to forget that so I’m here to remind him

  346. Cindy December 16, 2010

    Why can’t Blasian just defend Beyonce on her own terms? Why attack Mariah?

    Clearly Beyonce has nothing to back her s*** up so he’s trying to bring down other artists.

  347. Kisss December 16, 2010

    Yay for Ciara!!

  348. the kiddz December 16, 2010

    @Blasian

    I see you’re trying to make a point, but it’s irrelevant to the topic on hand. Beyonce continues to have people trying to bring up false accusations against her. Blogs like these profit on only gossip and stretching stories, even going as far as to make one up one (Ego/Chrisette Michelle). Beyonce is not a big lyricist and she has never claimed to be. When people realize that “song-writing” is more than just words, maybe they can finally comprehend what we’re trying to say.

  349. JLS RULES December 16, 2010

    Did everyone else not see what he said about Chris? I want him to get on the new album!

  350. Blasian December 16, 2010

    the kiddz

    It’s not irrelevant Mariah Carey is Trents fav Artist he always talk about how she WRITES her Music . BUT HE SEEMS TO FORGET SHE’S BEEN SUED FOR SONGWRITING MORE THAN BEYONCE LMAO!!!!!!

  351. Penny December 16, 2010

    This is why I never buy Beyonce albums. #teamAlicia all day everyday

  352. John December 16, 2010

    WOW WOW WOW An hour later and retarded BLASIAN is still here saying the same nonsenses??? I already told u that u are the only one crazy stan left on here. The rest retired hours ago at least, but it seems you are the most retarded.
    Yes we read (unlike u seem not to do) the Mariah´s cases. And? Most songwriters have them: U2, Alicia Keys…hell every f****** body. But they are still good songwriters (and have won the sueds in the majority of the cases).
    Look retarded:
    The thing is Beyonce claims to be a songwriter when she is not at all. Producers that work with her know they are perceiving good money cos the song probably will be a succes and in return she imposes her having credits. Do u understand what the deal is now?????? Retarded people….. Come on, let us know abou some other court case from Mariah or Lauryn…haha I´m laughing this week like never before

  353. Perez December 16, 2010

    Beyonce is just a Tina Tuner Karaoke singer. Nothing more.

  354. Alison December 16, 2010

    I’m excited for the Kelly single & I hope he helps Ciara bounce back because Gimme Dat is AMAZING!

  355. Baltimore December 16, 2010

    Usher over Chris?? I’m won’t get mad because I guess that’s his friend but Soundz better get on that new Chris album! Imagine the male version of Gimme Dat…CRAZY!

  356. FemBot December 16, 2010

    Soundz is kinda s*** though…lol!!

  357. Fish King December 16, 2010

    The Beyonce stans just can’t handle some truth. That is all.

    But once Beyonce heard it, she loved it and was sure she could make it her own. “What happens sometimes, is you think about a specific artist and you put them in this box, the song has to be this way or that, and then you’re usually confining yourself to the thing they did three years ago,” Hermansen said. “But she heard it and did her own vocal arrangements, asked for a few changes to be made and some new drums, and she sang it much higher than the demo.”

    Dave pensado on Bey’s vocal production and arrangements(he worked with her on DIL and IASF): Beyonce just hears those harmonies in her head. She was born with them. Her dad, Matthew is quite a good singer, and I believe Tina sings also. She usually starts off with the tonic, and builds from there. She does a little experimentation, and then blends them herself with the engineer. I love her timing. She has no regard for the beat, but it always sounds right. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone work harder than Beyonce (maybe Mya). I’ve seen her fly in from Europe, come to the studio, do vocals for 4 hours, fly to NY for concert, go directly to airport for 2 shows in Japan, and on and on. No sleep for days, and just keep going and loving every minute of it. Mya is like that also. I get tired just TYPING about it!

    Deja Vu: Jason Goldstein (Mix Engineer of B’Day)

    ‘Déjà Vu’

    “Basically, this song is a take on what Quincy Jones did with pre-Thriller Michael Jackson. Beyoncé really wanted it to have a street feel to it. On top of the kick pattern there’s an 808 and a really busy live bass, which is great. The horns are also live. The potential problem with a record like this is that the drum and bass patterns are very busy, and there is a lot of frequency information that can cause a loss of dynamics and clarity. This was the real challenge for me. I was very concerned, and voiced this to Rodney and Beyoncé, that when the mastering engineer slapped his limiter on the mix to bring up the volume, all the low end would come up as well and you would lose all the bounce, which is the great thing about this record. So I ended up printing a couple of versions with the 808 pulled back, which is what they went with.

    Listen:

    HENRY KRIEGER: The Dream Maker
    By Ken Sharp on May 1st, 2007

    “Listen” was the song that took the most time and hard work because we needed to fashion something in the musical vernacular of Beyonce while at the same time adhere to what the movie needed story-wise. That song took a while to write because, generally speaking, I don’t write Beyonce songs. I teamed up with Scott Cutler, who did a lot of musical innovation on the song…and Anne Preven, who wrote the lyrics. We would show Beyonce what we were doing and she would ask for maybe a little of this and a little of that. It was a group effort and a lot of fun.

    And that’s just a few things. Those who don’t want to believe that Bey contributes to the composition of her songs(keep in mind that’s what SONGWRITING is about), then that’s on all of you.

    And as another said, half of Bey’s Grammys are for VOCAL PERFORMANCES(8 of them), so why shouldn’t she get credit for that. Everyone who is unbiased know she is not a major LYRIC-WRITER but as for contributing to the composition of her songs, that’s different. But then again, when you want blog traffic, bring up the tried and true “Beyonce songwriting debate”

    “Be With You” – samples “I’d Rather Be With You” by Bootsy’s Rubber Band, “Ain’t Nothing I Can Do” by Tyrone Davis, & “Strawberry Letter 23″ by The Brothers Johnson
    “That’s How You Like It” – samples “I Like It” by DeBarge (resung lyrics)
    “Gift From Virgo” – samples “Rainy Day” by Shuggie Otis
    “Daddy” – samples “So Emotional” by Whitney Houston (uncredited)
    “‘03 Bonnie & Clyde” – samples “If I Was Your Girlfriend” by Prince & “Me And My Girlfriend” by 2Pac

    Lol at Trent trying to snipe at Rihanna. I am loving Rihanna this era, she’s killing it in the UK. It would be nothing short of impressive if she got the Christmas number one.

  377. Beyoncé: The Queen of Pop N Soul December 16, 2010

    Gerson calls the practice unfair but says it’s “pretty prevalent in pop and R&B … I think the way people now divide publishing splits is who was in the room. ’OK … I changed the word “the” to “a,” and I deserve 10 percent of the publishing.”

    http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/19940398

    But this will NEVER be posted when it comes to other artists in the Pop and R&B Genre except if the artist is BEYONCE, right? Right.

  378. Beyoncé: The Queen of Pop N Soul December 16, 2010

    And NO ONE is even addressing these posts that I gave from other sites that CLEARLY speak of Beyoncé CONTRIBUTING(not doing the whole song by herself) to the contrubtion of her songs. Especially songs that people have a skeptical viewpoint of whether she did or didn’t. It proves that many of you just don’t want to hear it.

    You will believe the word of this guy who by the way…have never worked with her EVER over NUMEROUS producers and mixers and engineers who say that she does. In fact, every person that I have heard speak of her contributions talk about her vocal arrangements. Always. NEVER LYRIC WRITING. Never.

    I love her music, but she just comes across as very self-centered, rude, and publicity-seeking

    @ JIMMY CHOO, IASF sold 2.3 million in the first 6 weeks of release. LOUD is currently at 1.2 million after 4 weeks, Rihanna will have to sell 1.1 million copies in the next two weeks to reach those figures. All this can be found on the global track chart.

  404. OKAY December 17, 2010

    TRENT IS SO STUPID YALL HAVE NO IDEA!!!!!!!!!

    everybody knows that keri hilson was the one who wrote “love in this club remix” verse .we all know she wrote the verse for herself but Usher gave her the boot cuz she was not hot back then. ps Beyonce has never said that she wrote her verse

    TOW YEARS LATER WHY NOW!!!!!!!!!!

  405. PAM December 17, 2010

    BDAY did even better than IASF in the first two weeks of release, because it sold one million WW in 2 weeks, and sold 1.2 million at the third week mark, but In the long term IASF did better than BDAY , since IASF sold 6.6 million, and BDAY sold 6.1 million, again all this can be found on Global Track Chart.

    Wow @ this post and the 400+ comments! I read this interview and just didn’t even want to entertain this because this guy really sounds like he has a chip on his shoulder. From “nope” on, I was just like whateva man! He just had alot of attitude. I don’t even know how he had the audacity to make all these claims when he doesn’t having a working relationship with Bey. I tell you, people really are too bold for their own good these days. I think he’s bitter about something.

    Songwriting, is so many things and it’s more than just writing lyrics. It’s arranging (people do it with poems that become songs- remember Tboz’s Unpretty). If you change smack into smash- it’s a big difference. You get a writing credit. Period! Smack into you, doesn’t sound as smooth as smash… This was apart of the hook(which some might say is the most important part of it). This all makes a difference!

    BTW, Usher over CB – really? Well, I like Ush, but that was surprising. I guess, he’s just staying loyal.

    You can all argue up and down how unfair it is that Beyoncé gets credit for songwriting when she doesn’t do much of the songwriting, but you have all been schooled on what counts as enough of a contribution to earn songwriting credit, and believe me, she hasn’t tricked or hoodwinked anyone into giving her credit. Beyoncé NEVER claims to write and compose songs all by herself, but people act as though she does. Now, do I on a personal level think it is fair that one can get credit without doing much of the writing? No. I think it is safe to say that most of the people who are criticizing Bey, their faves aren’t any more of songwriters than she is, and they have writing credits as well when we KNOW they don’t actually write their own songs. So it is obvious that the practice of earning credit for doing very little of the writing is not something that is unique to Beyoncé. It’s an industry thing. Perhaps you guys should complain to ASCAP or BASCA about it.

    And as for the excuse of “Oh, well how come she’s the only one getting sued over it”, I got two words for you: Lauryn Hill. Didn’t she claim to have written AND produced all her songs on “Miseducation” with little to no outside help? Turns out that wasn’t true. When the studio musicians asked her about providing contracts and documentations, what were her words? “We all love each other. This ain’t about documents. This is blessed.” But almost no one talks about it or questions her artistry. Yet Beyoncé is the one that gets repeatedly dragged through the mud about it. Double standards much?

    @ RihannaForever:

    Uh, explain how is she “very self-centered, rude, and publicity-seeking.”? You’re entitled to have your doubts about her songwriting, but attacking her character on such a personal level when contrary to what you say, she has NOT displayed herself in such a way, is, well, for a lack of a better term, bitchy. Especially this: “Beyonce makes amazing music and is extremely talented but her self-centered attitude and public display of mega self-importance by failing to acknowledge that this world is not all about Beyonce is sickening.”

    Really? You make it sound like she’s Cruealla DeVille. What public display of “mega self-importance”? Does she go around acting like a b****? Not once have I seen her act in a way that could be correctly interpreted as arrogant. If she were really as bad as you said, people who have worked for/with her in the past would start talking. And in case you didn’t notice, the people who co-directed her concert DVD are credited in the DVD itself. I’d say that’s acknowledging their contributions sufficiently enough. Bey doesn’t fail to give credit to the people she works with any less than most artists.

    @S***, I don’t know… I never understood the comparison between Beyonce and Rihanna. Don’t get me wrong, Rihanna is doing well right now, but to compare her to Beyonce is crazy. Beyonce tour grossed 103 million from 108 dates, Rihanna didn’t even make the list of the top 25 grossing tours of 2010, so I don’t know… I feel she is more on Katy Perry’s level, probably a little higher.

    The Crazy thing is that this is not my intent at all. Haters are going to hate. My intent is to show that you give facts and all of that, and they are biased in their thinking to even address it. So sad. And it is bigger than defending Beyoncé. If this was any other artist, I would be the same way. People just love lies and gossip and it’s not just a Beyoncé thing either. Rihanna gets it. Ciara gets it and many others. Look at how some clowned Keri(and I am not a fan of hers) but this is what these bloggers feed on.

  418. Beyonce: The Queen of Pop & Soul December 17, 2010

    @ true_Blue: No.

    Me: Precisely. I was talking to this Amerie fan in another gossip site(that fashions itself as a music blog) and I pretty much said the same thing to him because if the STANDARD-BEARER of the genre is getting this kind of scrunity, then the fans of their favorite artists who are in the same lane as Bey better get this same scrunity. But they won’t. That’s why I posted that article that said that it is prevalent that an artist changes a word or two and get credit in order to give the impression that they have that kind of connection to their work. Pop& R&B and R&B period is a PRODUCERS genre. Meaning, the producers do most of the composing and the most an artist will do, if they have any input is contributing ideas and/or (re-)arrangement

    Now, by the way, I DON’T CARE because at the end of the day, labels make more money off artists than the artist will ever get. So “pimp the game”, I say. But at best, they do as much as Bey in terms of contribution to their song. And as I said, Bey is not “glorified” for her lyrics, but vocal production:

    “I wasn’t that familiar with her Destiny’s Child stuff, until Solange played me some of the deep cuts. I was truly blown away by the vocal arrangements/performances(which she composed as their former vocal teacher confirmed). I think most people don’t realize what an amazingly great singer Beyonce is. She is so much more than a pop star. There is a reason why she’s the most popular and beloved female vocalist of our time. I would be fully psyched to work with her.”

    @ Beyonce: The Queen of Pop & Soul:

    Exactly. Very, very few of mainstream pop and R&B acts actually write their own material. It’s not a secret for anyone. Personally, I think the rules regarding songwriting credits should change so that it can be more clear as to exactly who contributes what. But it’s not fair that Beyoncé gets raked over the coals for it. She’s no worse than anyone else. At least she doesn’t put on this false image of being a serious singer-songwriter. I remember Avril talking her pop counterparts (specifically Britney, ALWAYS had beef with her) for not being “real artists” like she is. Turns out, she is no better than them. She’s a manufactured product just like the rest of ’em.

    Also, in the case of bands, there are disputes over this. Not all bands credit their songs the same way. Some bands have their songs credited specifically to the person(s) that wrote them. Others credit all the songs to the entire band regardless of who actually did most of the writing. Usually this is done so that everyone gets an equal share of the royalties, and there won’t be any arguments over who gets paid more. But for solo artists who frequently collaborate with producers and songwriters, this is where it gets tricky. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2008/jun/24/calculatingthecreditsbehind

  431. k December 17, 2010

    CLEARLY YOU GUYS MISSED THIS PART .THERFORE SHE CAN ADD HER SELF TO THE CREDITS IF THE ARTIST DNT WONT THAT THEN SO BE THEY DNT HAVE TO SELL THE SONG TO HER STOP F***** HATIN Still, Beyonce gets criticised by some people because she doesn’t write anything yet her name appears in the songwriters’ credits.

    Well GGGB sold more than both Bday & IASF…loud Sold 950,000in its 3rd week, and now stands at 1.2+ in its 4th week of release…that’s way better than Rated-R…she is projected to sell 160-210 in th UK alone this week combine that with the US, and the rest of the world I expect a minimum of 350K ww…the remainder of December I expect her to sale atleast another 400,000 the next 2wks which will put her at about 1.9-2+ million ww in 7weeks. That’s close to what Beyonce did with IASF, and considering this is off the strength of 2 official singles makes me even more confident that she will out sell Bday easily…just like GGGB did.

    @S***…

    GGGB went 5X in the UK, and sold 8 million ww, she is more than capable of snatching Beys wig in ww album sales…trust me boo. “Loud” is already platinum in in the UK after only 4wks, she is predicted to sell 200k this week alone in the UK…IASF is Bey’s biggest album their. Rihanna will surpass that…I promise.

    How many albums do you think she will sell this time around? Low ball them so I can slay you later.

    🙂

    Brandy is wack in everyway, Vocally shes BASIC as hell with that Whinny, & Raspy voice of hers. all her music sounds the same & I swear she uses autotune or something, B****’s recordings doesnt even sound natural. 😐

Anyway, IASF( 7 Mill) is actually more successful than ALLLLL of Rihs albums RESPECTFULLY because GGGB was RE-RELEASED & IASF wasnt so you do the math. & good for Rih doing her thing in the UK but the US is a bigger deal & Rih has NEVER had a 3XS Platnum album there while all of Beys are & she also has NEVER had a DIAMOND album in BRAZIL or ANYWHERE.

    I really do not comprehend any of your arguments people. Even if Beyoncé does not write her songs right now she is not a thief. She, as stated in the article, “cuts” the music. That is composing. She asks these writers for permission to be put in the credits and they give her permission. Let’s face it: Beyoncé has no faults when it comes to this topic. I have debated this with so many people but nobody ever gets it through their thick skulls. Quite frankly, you are ALL HATERS. So, um yeah, WHY YOU MAD? Damn.

    Mariah was only sued TWICE, and both lawsuits were thrown out of court, and the second time, the guy who tried to sue Mariah, actually had to pay HER. The people tried to sue her, didn’t get s*** from her because their claims were false.

    That doesn’t change the fact that Mariah is a TRUE SONGWRITER, and Bey stans are just angry because Beyonce got called out ONCE again on her corruptness, and fakeness. Mariah doesn’t need ghostwriters, nor does she claim to write songs she never wrote. I do believe all of this will catch up with Beyonce in the future. I’ve always said the Knowles are corrupt.

    Washed up has-been my ass. Mariah is far from one of those.

    And that’s the kind of shade that would never get you an interview with Beyoncé, cut the s*** Trent please !

    Sam u better fire that boy, trying too much to push our buttons SMH

    We all know that B doesn’t write all the songs and that she’s helped, but who the f*ck cares ?!!! by the end of the day she sh*ts on all the girls in this business, go ahead and talk sh*t, Queen will be Queen tomorrow, and I’m f*cking proud to give my money when I’m buying a B record cause she the only one left who knows what a performer and a true artist is, so f*ck YOU !

  461. PAM December 17, 2010

    Well Beyonce DIL sold over 11 million, and IASF 6.6 million with no rerelase. GGGB 8 million with a rerelease. Nothing but the truth.

  462. PAM December 17, 2010

    @JIMMY CHOO, no one is taking away from Rihanna’s LOUD album sales, but you asked the question on how much IASF sold in 6 weeks, and I gave you an honest answer. Someone mentioned that Rihanna stans are always making predictions, and most of the time they’re wrong. (I don’t remember who said it) but I say, just wait to see what Rihanna does on this album in the long run before judging because Stans were saying the same thing about Rated “R”, and her last tour and look at how those turned out. I am a huge Beyonce fan, but I am not delusional, I will never make predictions on how she will do because I don’t know the future. I only speak on her past accomplishments.

  463. Keesha December 17, 2010

    “Mariah & Alicia > Beyonce. Live with it!”

    I agree. I don’t really like Beyonce, and I am basing this on vocal ability. Beyonce does have more vocal ability than Rihanna though, so if “Soundz” considers Rihanna to be an “8 or 9” on a scale of 10, then Beyonce is 14, Alicia Keys is 18, and Mariah is 22+. And all of this arguing over songwriting is RIDICULOUS!

    Off topic: I heard that Chris Brown shut it DOWN @WildJam! I’m not surprised because he is an amazing performer. I really need to see him live one of these days. I was so close to going to his show last year in Detroit, but he needs to hurry up and come out with these new tour dates.

  464. Keesha December 17, 2010

    “Mariah & Alicia > Beyonce. Live with it”

    _________________________________

    In what regards? As far as singing goes, Alicia hasn’t got a patch on Bey. Find me a performance where Bey sounds hoarse and off-key. There’s a reason some people refer to Alicia as “Alicia OFF-Keys” sometimes. That’s not to say that she can’t sing, she obviously can, and I do like her, but she is nowhere near this singing goddess that you all make her out to be. Now if you wanna say that she’s a superior artist to Beyoncé, that’s your business since that is all a matter of taste. But I had to set you straight on at least one thing.

  467. keasyy December 17, 2010

    bottom line is Beyonce is the BEST.
    Rihanna dont write s*** either, and without her number ones, she’d be gone. luckily she knows how to choose a catchy song.
    Ciara cant sell a f****** album, she promoting s*** too late. it aint gon sell. she’ll be dropped from her label anyday now
    Alicia Keys dont have s*** to do with this, not once was she mentioned in the interview.

    yall really let Trent get to yall everytime. it’s crazy

  468. Beverleyanne Jones December 17, 2010

    That was a great interview love the questions they were on the mark, they were tough and most of all interesting. I love the question on Beyonce and I love the fact you were able to pick up on his tone of voice and laugh. I was also impressed you were also prepared and well informed……not mediocre at all. Well done.

  469. John December 17, 2010

    A day after and ignorant stans still haven´t reponded all the truths I said cos they just can´t. They only get involve in insulting people.
    One of the last comments that has explained very well what the issue is for all the retards is @Nichole. Not that it hasn´t been explained over and over again yesterday but ignorant and liers seems to not get it. Beyonce has claimed over the years she writes and produces while it isn´t true. Maybe she is not stealing cos her producers accept it like explained on this interview but she lies to the public. Mariah or others being sued has nothing to do with that. They are still songwriters. Get it???
    Oh and stop to lie about beyonce numbers cos is really too much . Mariah and others slay her at every front except the entertainment department. And I think that one is not MUSIC, it´s something (great) that is related to music. Mucis is songwriting, producing and singing. And hell I really enjoy how Mariah slays her with just one week of work (also on tv ratings). Really I´ve never disliked Beyonce and I like some songs but when her crazy stans can´t face the truth and try to bring down the ones that are clearly superior…
    Also talking about succes (not that it equales talent I know) Beyonce has never been the best b**** at any time of her career. Whitney has been, Mariah has been, Michael has been, untalented Britney has been, Eminem (I can´t stand him) has been. Some of them have been several times in fact so please. Relax and try to come for legends when numbers and talent of your fav. reach that levels, which is going to be never of course!! Peace

  471. CRAMPED December 17, 2010

    @John – well if mariah was the perfect songwriter as you claimed then she should have never gotten sued. I mean NEVER!

    Mariah have sold more albums than beyonce? Well of course. Beyonce went solo in 2003, mariah has been in the industry for 20 yrs now. So whats your point? Why r even trying to compare their sales?
    Whats important is that Mariah is struggling while beyonce is suceeding in an industry where there are many illegal ways to download music.

    And Mariah Xmas special getting higher ratings then beyonce DURING THE XMAS
    SEASON its nothing to brag about.

    Mariah is a has-been, beyonce is now and forever. you better deal with it!

    And alot of what u said is ur opinion, not facts, so what ever.

  472. CRAMPED December 17, 2010

    Also talking about succes (not that it equales talent I know) Beyonce has never been the best b**** at any time of her career.

    Who was named the top female entertainer of the past decade?

  473. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 17, 2010

    DAMN @ this post. How did I miss this?

    I’m not gonna even argue about this situation so all I have to say is, most of you dummies who are riding this “Beyonce is a fraud” from this interview are taking the word from a person who believes that Rihanna is a 8 or 9 vocally. Now take from that what you will. Not to mention, he has NEVER worked with Beyonce, so how does he know how she works on records? REALLY? When The-Dream, Ne-yo, or any other REAL producer that has worked with her says this, then I could understand this, but come on Rihanna a 8 or 9? I CANNOT.

  474. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 17, 2010

    LOL @ Jimmy_Choo’s obvious REACHING! Smh.

  475. Tru Voice December 17, 2010

    Damn, He ain’t gon be working with Beyonce now! lol He told the truth though, as he should. Whitney and Micheal has never done that with their songs- try to take writing credit when they didn’t write it. SMH Beyonce, We all knew it was true. We knew for a fact when Ne-Yo said he wrote “Irreplacable” on 106 & Park that day.

  476. John December 17, 2010

    @CRAMPED
    It seems Bey stans are definately retarded. In Bey´s era, Mariah went 6 times platinium in the USA, Beyonce has never. Imagine if you add all the glorious 90s decade for Mariah. Bey has never been the best at any point: what I mean she has never had the best selling album of the year, or the song of the year or those types of things. Even in her golden era there has always been an untalented Britney, a ridiculous Taylor, a karaoke Boyle, an Eminem that have gotten that titles, do u understand now?? Beyonce doesn´t write or produce and she says she does, that´s the f****** deal that has been exposed on here. You saying Mariah is not a perfect songwriters just throws Bey even more down, u recognize Mariah is great songwriter in your own opinion. The thing is it is not that important if u talk about Celine or Whitney cos they don´t lie and don´t have the nerve to put their names when they did nothing on the process, do u understand that?? I´ve been explaining it since yesterday for Gods sake, it´s not that difficult. And u still have to say something about Mariah having higher ratings than Bey in 2010? when her golden era is supposed to end in 2000 and we are in Bey´s golden era??
    Mate Mariah slayed Beyonce´s whole career with just this Xmas album, vocally and musically so add the rest of her records and do the match. She is no Mariah, Whitney, Michael, Celine nor vocally nor musically nor in terms of succes. NEXT

  477. agie December 17, 2010

    BEYONCE IS A BORN STAR ,AND EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT IS BEST FEMAIL ARITS D WORLD EVER SEEN.I DONT GET WHAT PROBLEMS DOES CRAZY ANIMALS GOT, AM NOT CALING THEM PEOPLE BECAUSE EVEN ANIMALS MORE INTELLEGENT THEN THEM.LIVE HER IN PEACE, AND DO WHAT U HATE HER OF.LOVE U BEYOUNCE GOD BLESS U AR A DARLING TO D PEOPLE NOT ANIMALS.

  478. CRAMPED December 17, 2010

    @John – Again everything you said is ur opinion, not facts.
    Beyonce will be far greater then Mariah, she’s already on her way.

    There’s nothing special about Mariah , replace her with Leona Lewis in the 1990s and u’ll see the same damn results. Leona is 2 decades 2 late.

    Tina turner was put mariah to shame when her tour grossed over $80m while mariah was struggling to sell 3000 tickets. Mariah is washed up , got nothing to offer no more.

    U’re deluded, am not – beyonce is the most exciting entertainer of this generation with just 3 albums.

    And u’re really desperate if you think mariah xmas album slayed beyonce career. lol

    Mariah is a has-been, beyonce is now and forever!

  479. John December 17, 2010

    @CRAMPED
    You really don´t understand a f****** thing and have not refered to any of the arguments me and the rest of non crazy Beyonce stans have stated. You keep on nontalking about what the issue is on here. Beyonce got exposed. Again, do u get that?? Yes Mariah´s talent slays Beyonce´s, and not to mention Leona (very good voice, but very boring too and not versatile, plus she is more karaoke than anything and is not a musician at all, so how is it that Leona is the Mariah of today… how delusional u are). Look, I have a balanced opinion. Beyonce slays Mariah as a performer, do u see me trying to bring down Bey on her posts about that? NO (not that mariah needs to be a great entertainer while Bey needs it, cos noone would stand a whole show from her just standing there and singing, her voice is not all that at all, Mariah and Whitney can).
    Once I hope u get the matter here is Beyonce lies to the public and got exposed, u also didn´t respond to any of the facts i brought like Bey never been the best seller at at least one point, the numbers etc. Look I wouldn´t be so hard with Bey as I´m being on here since yesterday cos as an artist she is great at what she does. But she got exposed and stans can´t admit it and begun trying to bring down other stars (bigger than her) so I couldn´t take it anymore. U are the only one still on here defending her, even S*** and people like him/her left a while ago. At least be quiet and leave with some dignity.
    PD: this next year she is not going to have the best selling album neither. Gaga is going to absolutely eat her. Maybe in the USA the difference could be not that big but worldwide, omg, u´ll see. Such a pain, she had her time with little new competition (rihanna, katy,…crap) and she didn´t make the most of it to at least come close in terms of succes to the greatest. Sorry for her

  480. JustMe December 17, 2010

    Ummmmm… plagarism means stealing without credit… if the writer on a song ALLOWS Beyonce to take partial writing credit how is that wrong… She PURCHASED the song and obviously the right to make changes and ADD her name… damn… why yall so pressed about someone elses coins???

    AND… when BDay was released, there was a DVD released at the same time… on the DVD she discussed Irreplaceable… now this was recorded before any of us ever heard the song… on the video she plainly states that Neyo wrote it… so he aint clear up nuttin!!!!

    And lastly, yall act like she is the only person listed on her songs… most list the original writers and Beyonce… if Mofo’s spent as much time doin them as they did trying to discredit B, the world would be a better place…

    All together now, a thief takes without knowledge… this heffa asks for & receives publishing credits because the writers & producers know exactly what a hit sung by Bey will do for their career…

  481. John December 17, 2010

    Oh and BTW now that u mentioned Tina Turner. She f****** slays beyonce too, by far far, she is a true legend. She slays her musically of course. But as an entertainer… omg did u see some of memorable tina concerts? She kills her with just one look. It´s called authenticity, Bey is very fake even doing it good. And yeah I know Mariah is not a great touring artist. see? i´m balanced and say the truths. She just slays with her talent for music (voice + artistry)

  482. CRAMPED December 18, 2010

    @ John – LOL at ur essays.
    Beyonce is everything Mariah Carey will never be. Give it up and bow down to queen Bey.
    Legands and Icons spk highly of beyonce but Mariah? no one cares. She is not a legend – MJ is legend, Madonna, Tiner Turner, Janet jackson, etc – I can see their impact on music. hell even gaga gimmick has made an impact compared to mariah.

    Like I said Leona Lewis could have easily replaced mariah in the 1990s and u wouldnt know the difference.

    Beyonce is already a legend biatch, u better recognise.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi87hRD-b3Y&feature=related

    When is Mariah gonna get one?

  483. John December 18, 2010

    @CRAMPED
    again u said nothing about the real issue and any fact about numbers and succes. You are a big fail and know nothing about music industry and music history and keep on not understanding all the things been said on here. This is my last comment cos u already had 3 days to understand and it´s really to much, I´m done

  484. CRAMPED December 18, 2010

    @John – YOU are the big fail! U know I’m spking the truth about mariah carey the has-been-that-could-be-easily-replaced-by-Leona Lewis-2-decades-ago-and-Stevie-Wonder-woudlnt-know-the-difference.
    U know I’m spking the truth when I say Mariah didnt have much of an impact compared to MJ,Madonna,Janet Etc… (A damn shame)

    And you I’m certainly spking the truth when I say Beyonce will go down as one of the greatest entertainers and versatile artist ever, and inspiration to many ahead of Mariah Carey – at least Iknow that much!

    That is why Beyonce don’t have any friend because she is PHONY. It’s just a matter of time when she falls on her ass. She’s getting lame and whacked. I pray on her next video the girl get a new wig. Mariah is in a lane all by herself, there’s no comparison, a true one of the kind DIVA, talented artist, there will never be another like MC.

  489. Mal December 22, 2010

    Trent as a blogger youre kind of late on your music news!! beyonce never claimed to write love in this club part 2! love in this club part 2 is the whole reason why keri hilson had a reason to hate on B because she wrote it and usher didnt give it to her to sing

    If you wrote the LYRICS and the MELODY, you are the sole writer of the songs. Words and Music are the two “non-negotiables” in any copyright. SO, when an artist makes small changes to the lyrics this still does not give them enough leverage to get an actual writing credit. changing The other two elements of songs — the HARMONY and RHYTHM — are matters of arrangement. For example, think about how many arrangements of “Amazing Grace” you have heard — everything from Country, to bagpipes, to symphonic performances — but you still know that the song is “Amazing Grace” because the words and melody are the same. SO, yes if Beyonce does in fact change Harmony and Rhythm in demos, in essence she should receive ARRANGEMENT credits… NOT WRITING credits.

    What I just laid out for you all is FACT not FICTION. I respect Beyonce. She is tremendously talented, however, it is NO SECRET that she indeed receives writing credits when she was not in fact the lyricist or the composer of the music she records. Now we can go back and forth forever on this, there’s really no need to. Soundz was telling the truth as he knows it. It might not be the whole truth, but he’s partially correct and there’s no denying it. Sociovol was right y’all. Carry on….
