Word of our interview with Soundz has reverberated across the industry. Now, after facing severe backlash from some of Beyonce’s crazed fans regarding his statements about her songwriting, the ‘Gimme Dat’ producer has issued an apology.

I gotta say somethings were taken out of context in the interview. I’ve never been in a session with [Beyonce] but I’ve heard rumors, none of which I have evidence or personal recollection, so I can’t really truthfully speak on that case.
I’m a huge fan of Beyonce and I deal with a lot of mutual people of hers and I’m hurt that people have taken the interview negatively. I’m a very funny, outspoken and humble person, and I never meant to intentionally offend anyone. I cant take back what I’ve said but I am apologetic to her and whoever may have been offended in that interview.
In other news, is anyone else excited to hear the possible smash hit that Soundz has crafted for Kelly Rowland entitled ‘Make Believe’?

I know business etiquette I have worked corporate and in the business, so none of this is shocking. That’s why I said Soundz was set up by Trent/Sam because of his immaturity.
But he doesn’t owe anyone an apology in the culture of TMZ, Radar, and Twitter.
The things he said was common mumblings in music circles, but any person with publicity training knows if you go to blogs, whatever you say must be strategic. He should have had his interview documented from his end.
If he wanted to take a blow, to get his name out for 15 seconds—that was a poor move.
But on the “audience / fan” end, I think there’s room for the “TMZ-styled” exposure. Many of these people want to produce and write for these artists, and need to know what is going on. If you choose to go into business with these artists and their teams, don’t pout your lips if your publishing is getting split 5 ways.

Notice producers who have worked with Beyonce have never explicitly explained how she deals with them. When Ne-Yo said he actually wrote “Irreplaceable” he made sure to say she helped with the melodies.

Alicia Keys got songwriting credit for “A Woman’s Worth” even tho the lyrics to the song were written by Erika Rose, why has nobody stumbled on this?? Because the rules ONLY apply to Beyoncé. When it comes to others all of a sudden people know how to use common sense and know that Alicia is credited for playing the piano on the track which is also a songwriting credit.
While we’re on the Alicia subject, how many times has she jacked melodies and harmonies from the 50s to the 80s without giving credit? A couple of examples, James Brown’s “A Man’s World” = “Fallin”, most infamously Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way” = “Impossible” [Xtina “Stripped” album]
This is her taking credit for other people’s work yet her integrity has never been questioned. Beyoncé gets attacked yet any fool with half a braincell that can open a CD booklet and read the credits can see that nobody has went uncredited.

Well, I blame more THIS BLOG for all of this than anything that Soundz said or did. I posted all of those articles from producers and mixed who HAVE worked with Beyoncé to show what she does. Trent and Sam love to fuel the “Beyoncé don’t write, she just steals publishing from ‘hungry, starving producers'” when in fact, the only song that Soundz worked with her on, Bey has no publishing credits on. Especially after having publishing credit for Rated R, which I was pleased with her for having them because she was cutting her teeth in having imput in her work whether it was miminal or substanstial.
To be truthful, I feel every artist/entertainer should get a percentage of publishing off their songs since they are the artists. Especially being that albums don’t sell like it used to, singles are where it is at ultimately because those songs will be played for years to come if they are big hits. Those who have publishing credits on those songs will be making money off artists/entertainers even AFTER THEY DIE. That’s not fair either. That’s why you have entertainers who know the game adding a word or two getting publishing credit because they know that in the ultimate scheme of things, labels make much more money off the labels than the artists will ever see in their lifetime.

Actually the song was already done BEFORE they even decided to put Beyonce on. It wasn’t until after they had written and recorded it with Keri as the feature that they asked for Beyonce instead of Keri.
True_Blue posted a great article about publishing when this topic for came about, I think it is great that Bono and Chris Martin allow their band-members to get publishing credit whether they contribute to the composition of a song or not. People don’t understand how entertainers get played by labels all the time.

I know I say this with this big “TEAM KELLY” name, but the truth is that these song writters are paid off and then not even given writters creds. I know this because I do write and sale lyrics. The names that actually go on the album are the names of the people that were actually present at the time of recording who assist in the removing and adjusting of lyrics and melodies. The writters of the songs have already been paid for the actual lyrics. SO basically you sold your right to complain.

No one is saying that Beyonce writes by herself, but what we are saying is that she doesn’t put her name on songs fraudulantly or steal the credits.
Beyonce in someway has a part of every song she records in someway whether she is arranging, changing a note, a word, or the melody. She is an artist, because of the fact that she is always apart of the creative process and has a vision of what she wants to do.
Beyonce has been sued a lot, but not for song writing.
She was sued for “Cater 2 U”, but we never really heard the other song in which she alledgly copied so we don’t know for sure.
For “Booyylicious” she was only sued because she didn’t give Furasi production credit. But that only goes to show Beyonce does give credit, because she gave the production credit to Stevie Knicks the owner of the guitar riff. Furasi just wanted the credit because he suggested the guitar, but didn’t tweek it or anything to get credit.
For the whole Des’ree thing. That song was supposed to be on beyonce’s album, but Beyonce had put it on her album before they reached a final agreement.
For “If I were a Boy”. BC Jean had sold the song to TOby Gad therefore he had the authority to give it to ever he please. And before the song was even released she talked about how Gad had wrote her a beautiful song and he wasn’t sure if she would like it. He played it for her and she said she fell in love with it and recorded it. BTW, she is not credited as a writer on that song either.
I’m not sure but I believe those are the onyl 4 times that she has been sued for music. There maybe 2 more cases, but i’m not sure.

All the writers who work with her are given their proper credits, and she gets songwriting credit for doing VOCAL ARRANGEMENTS, which count as writing, since you’re changing the original composition of a song.

Although someone else may want or think they deserve credit for writing a song by themselves, legally it doesn’t work that way. If their song was completely untouched then I’m sure they would be given sole credit. However, if it was edited or altered then it may be subject to credit sharing whether they want to share credit or not.
