Turn It Up (ft. Usher)!
The uptempo banger, which is already in heavy rotation on UK radio, is reportedly set to have its accompanying video shot later this month, with dance rehearsals having already commenced before Christmas.
Granted things can and often do change, ‘Turn It Up’ is -as at writing- ‘Basic Instinct’s’ next single offering. A fact Ciara has been alluding to for the better part of this week on Twitter. See for yourself.

For, beyond being the album’s best song next to ‘Ride’, and featuring the unstoppable Usher , ‘Turn It Up’ is a solid indicator of the type of music Ciara should be making at this point – Pop with R&B sensibilities. Whether it was her or the label pushing this ‘back to my roots’ slant, it’s hella ironic that an outright Pop cut is not only the track most are feeling, yet also her biggest hope of scoring that oh-so-needed-hit. Here’s hoping all pans out well for the immensely talented, yet badly handled Ms. Harris.

This is hot, and it’s on trend with what’s going on in music today. Turn it Up should have been lead single, then Ride, Gimme Dat. This song would have charted higher than Ride on BB Hot 100 and made a lot of noise on rhythmic/pop, which is what she could have used to have a better opening week.

…Agreed with Sam, Ciara definitely has obstacles in her path from inside troubles with the label to their efforts to get radio support. The song is solid, just like most of the album. The focus on going back to urban roots derived from a push through her own fans along with the haters! This era was suppose to be the opposite of Fantasy Ride, which was her attempt at making it big on the pop charts. I think what she did this time around has a great balance between the two genres. Ciara can’t rely on pop radio, she’s only a cross over artist occassionally. R&B is her core(she did well with ride & on Urban video outlets), so she should cater to them somewhat or atleast not abandon them. Still all the pressure to take it back to the ‘A’ because she moved to L.A. and made friends(and decided to broaden her horizons in her music) was not going to turn it all around. Ciara still have mountains to climb! Ciara should contiue making music similar to what’s on B.I., it’s just a matter of her changing around the people that back her as well as revamping her image and severing ties to aloooooot of things she’s associated with! This will help her career tons.
Its amazing that jive records is promoting this album which was been poorly recieved yet they are not promoting R Kelly’s album which was well recieved. R Kelly has 1 video which was released in September & Ciara has 3 & she will be shooting her 4th. With 4 videos R Kelly would go platnum. All the best to Ciara though, she has a lot of potential.

I feel as though the label let Ciara do her thing, and since she didn’t meet expectations they are taking control over the rest of this era. More then likely the label chose Turn It Up as the next single (due to low album sales I’m surprised she received a 3rd single, which is kind of proof that her label finally has gotten involved). I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a re-release of Basic Instinct soon, which mostly new material.

Gurl…that was the BET Awards! You know damn well they can’t dance like that at the AMA’s! The AMA’s are too mainstream and family oriented for that type of performance.
Well…I’ll admit I don’t like the song that much, it’s cute, but I don’t think it’s that great. *shrugs* However I see why they are choosing this as a single. It’s a fun catchy dance song that is featuring a big name artist! That is what she needs right now, just having Usher on the record will get it some attention. Hopefully the video will slay and it might just get her a hit. We need an all out dance video that show cases her one true talent, dancing. She needs to remind people of why she got so big in the first place.

well Basic Instinct has sold around 75K which ain’t s*** for real, but it’s better than nothing. I’m pretty sure with the right video and radio releases(to Pop/Urban/Mainstream and International) it can be a WW top 10 hit which would increase her sales and I think the next singles should be in this order: Heavy Rotation, Yeah I Know, You Can Get It and then Wants for Dinner. I’m pretty cofident that Turn It Up will be a huge hit and if Yeah I Know and Heavy Rotation are released, that they will be hits too. So with the right promo, radio and video releases, Basic Instinct can sell around 2 mil WW which is pretty decent especially for an R&B artists. But what’s crazy is that ppl keep saying she needs to do Pop/R&B. She already tried that with Fantasy Ride and it wasn’t accpeted, remember it sold 300K WW. But I do agree, songs like Turn It Up, Heavy Rotation, I Run It, Wants for Dinner and You Can Get It are better Ciara songs and would get Ciara more critical praise.
Definitely a smart decision to release this song because USHER is in it and they are gonna do some of the best dancing we have ever seen since Michael Jackson!!!! Its gonna be a banger in the POP oriented clubs and the video is gonna be sick. I personally don’t care for the song but I can bear listening to it. Its not horrible so the label is making the smartest decision they could ever make regarding the Basic Instinct project because ppl are gonna anticipate to see the dancing in this video!! They should have released these songs in this order:
1. Promo/Basic Instinct (U got me) = did it! (April)
2. First Single/Ride = did it! (April)
Then they should have released the album in MAY or JUNE!
but since they didn’t……
3. Buzz single to radio/Speechless in May (since it leaked at that time)
4. Promo buzz during getting the album buzz release – Gimme Dat – July (when it leaked)
5. Second single/Turn it Up to POP in August
6. Third single/U Can Get It to Urban in September
We should really be in Ciara’s fourth and final singles right now……. while she prepares work on a movie (haitus and work on her fifth album).
7. Fourth Single to Urban I Run This in December
8. Fifth Single to Pop in January – remixed version with completely different sound with BOTH “girls get your money” and “wants for dinner” BOTH songs had huge potential; but production sucked big time. I can foresee these to be remixed into much better reincarnations a la “gimmie dat urban bass slow remix” and the even better bei meijor remix to “ride”.
9. If they had followed that plan outlined above; they could be milking a 6 (or 9th single depending on all the double singles you count) and release “heavy rotation” with a featured rapper/remix just for the sake of it in April.
If they had done it the above way, Ciara would be on the radio from April 2010 to at least June 2011. She could working on new material in the meantime and have brand new music ready by the end of 2011 and be ready to do it again in 2012.
Jive and Ciara failed to promote properly and thus this project was just a waste of time!
