Cover Star: Miles Sings Britney’s ‘Hold It Against Me’

Published: Saturday 29th Jan 2011 by Sam

This week’s That Grape Juice Cover Star is Miles Anthony. The Londoner turns in a unique redition of Britney Spears’ latest chart-topper – ‘Hold It Against Me’. Anthony weaves in another smash into the performance. See if you can spot it.

Check it out below:

Loved it! Great re-working of a solid song; one Miles’ soulful, yet Pop friendly vocals made  seem like an effortless task. More than anything, this really underscores the fact that UK boasts much in raw Urban talent; here’s hoping this year sees more labels recognise that.

  13. hill January 29, 2011

    after all.
People lets stick with Britney, even she got simple voice but her songs are perfect.
My mom hated Britney during her meltdown (2006-2008), but now look at Britney.
She’s back. and my mom love her LOL
previously, i’ve doubted that Britney will make a huge comeback, but look how amazing she is.. today!

    America still love you Britney.

  14. ken January 29, 2011

GAGA IS NOT ORIGINAL?! OMG I CANT BELIEVE IT!

  15. ken January 29, 2011

Im not worried about Brit she will be fine. Shes doing great. I could care less if she at number 6# it will go up after she drops that hott video of her killer dancing.

  16. lane January 29, 2011

gaga was never original anyway… she claims that she did this, did that.. but actually, she has references but never admit it.. and yet her DUMB fans believes everything she says cos they are bunch of 10 and 15 year old tweens. bish please.

  17. britneyhaters January 29, 2011

if anyones delusional it britney fans…
she can’t sing, she doesn’t write her own songs (not even involved in the process at all) and she can’t even dance anymore…she is a f****** joke!!!
britney is not talented like she was in the 90′s
she is nothing but a manufactured disney child star turned s*** head shaving disgrace, sorry you grew up with her and thats the only reason why you queens are still hanging on 🙁
Gaga has put talent, creativity, and actual SINGING back into pop music

  18. jenny January 29, 2011

Well the bottom line is… Britney has much power only by sitting & sipping Starbucks while scratching her weave… than 24/7 dressing Fabulous costume & bribe to lil Monster, while over hyped BTW all along.

  19. jen January 29, 2011

I can’t wait until Brit comes out with her new video and silences all the haters.

As for being an “all-around artist”, yeah Gaga CO-writes her own stuff. Doesn’t make it good. Katy Perry also co-writes all of her stuff and even wrote a few all by herself (compare the lyrics of Thinking of You to Born This Way), plus she’s improved a TON on her live singing. Christina co-writes almost all of her own stuff and has three times the voice that Gaga will EVER have.

Also, if she thinks pandering to the gays is going to get her places, she’s going to get her comeuppance. She’s a fake bisexual (ever had a girlfriend? Don’t think so), and the ones that are still in love with her are eventually going to realize that she’s exploiting them. She’s a brilliant, horrible, conniving b****.

  20. penlope January 29, 2011

Gaga didn’t bring anything back to pop. Okay, it’s clear that you don’t like Britney Spears. If we really want to talk about talent, let’s talk about it. Can you really say that Lady Gaga is a better artist than Adele? Fiona Apple? Alicia Keys? Have you seen her Telephone video? What was so great about it? Enlighten me please. If Britney and Lady Gaga will have a showdown, do you really think that the whole world will pay attention to Lady Gaga as much as they would to Britney Spears? Just be glad that Ms. Spears hasn’t been promoting yet, because once she does, Lady Gaga will have to work 30/7 just to catch up. Britney has debuted #1 and broke records. Songs typically reach the peak after a few weeks and stay there because of radio spins. Now, it will stay in Top 10 because radio spin will just keep increasing. Britney’s song was #1 in 17 countries just after a week of its release. Now if you don’t call that power, then you are either dumb or in denial. Oh yeah, that’s without promotion. With BTW and having it as a “gay-themed” song, do you really think it will appeal to the mass audience, considering that most of little monsters are not even old enough to know what the word monster really means? Even Gaga admitted that she will have to do a lot of promotions this year. That’s because she needs to remind people of her existence just so they will pay attention. An artist is someone that brings new ideas. Monet invented surrealism. Van Gogh didn’t copy Da Vinci. Heck, Katy Perry is even a much better lyricist than Lady Gaga. What’s so good about, ruh rah-ra-a-ah? Oh yeah, let’s make it sound cool by adding French to the lyrics because I can’t think of any other lyrics. Want another one? Sorry, I ain’t go no service in the club, you see..see…whu…what did you say..you bre-breaking up on me? That sounds like a fart coming out of John Lennon. Point out one thing that Lady Gaga has done that cannot be referred to another artist. I DARE YOU. By the way, buddy, Britney has two #1 Top 100 Billboard songs AFTER Lady Gaga’s Poker Face hit #1. Britney delivers in every album. Lady Gaga’s success was based on her first album and an extension of it. And I doubt her second album will do as well.

  21. hash January 29, 2011

Bows the f*** down this b**** is truly legendary and her fanbase is clearly as loyal as they are insane and scary.

  22. justin January 29, 2011

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!
    YESSSSSS!!!!!

I’m probably more happy than Britney herself! LOL

And everyone thought GaGa would win with sales. Lets see Born This Way debut at #1 with sales over 411,000 first week!

Sorry to bring gaga up, but I just had to say that.

  23. HIAm January 29, 2011

    LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No one but Britney

  24. That FLOP Juice January 29, 2011

    Britney as a Queen of Pop???? LMAO. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

MADONNA is the Queen of Pop.

Maybe Britney’s team could be a princess of pop, but Britney? Oh no. She can’t sing, she can’t write songs, neither lyrics. Everything (from lyrics through music to promotion) is made by her team. She is just a tool for them to get money. Britney is nobody. Her songrwiters and auto tune experts rule this whole thing.
    ——

BTW this version is good, but why the f****ing hell is this guy holding his d*** all over the song? That killed the whole performance.

  25. boysLoveboys January 29, 2011

All we need now is some promotion (C’mon Britney!!!) and a KICK ASS Video!!!!!

  26. n***** January 29, 2011

U american bitchs better start bowing down, coz africa, asia and europe salute the queen of music…britney well done..
No rihanna, gaga or beyonce hate today guys..lets just be happy for them.

  27. That FLOP Juice January 29, 2011

Btw Britney can be the QUEEN OF AUTO TUNE.

  28. carloki January 29, 2011

whoa pretty nice, I can breathe now, with all the feats it got since its release, not seeing a #1 debut in the chart would’ve been ridiculous, now we just need the video!

  29. klenex January 29, 2011

I pity every fool who worships this train wreck!
She should stop trying to make a comeback & try to get her kids back.
This feat really isn’t a big deal, its been done before!
    Big whoop

  30. Threesome January 29, 2011

LMAO! it must be so hard to be a Britney hater. They get their words shoved back into their asses every time she makes a move..

    Toast to the Queen.

  31. xtrails January 29, 2011

    Godney. Slaying for our sins.

  32. xtrails January 29, 2011

Isnt a great feeling to know are fave is doing so great. I didnt even excpect her to do this great. See how much of a difference it made for Brits song not having much auto tune. Gaga stan the song in those links doesnt sound good. And if that is the instrumental for her single I would be worried lol. The beat sounds like somthing you would here out of a fashion show thats been used already lmao.

  33. GagaLoves S**** January 29, 2011

    BOW!!!!!!!!!!! THIS WOMAN IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love that Britney and Mariah are the only 2 with multiple #1 debuts because they’re both my fav artists!

  34. mariah January 29, 2011

& this is why i love being a britney fan .
the haters are hilarious to me.
    NOW they`re saying she`s just “a name that sells” . .
sooo what is beyonce? what is gaga? ALL these b****** are marketing tools ! that doesn`t change the numbers. stfu and bow down 😉

  35. tiera January 29, 2011

I wonder what the choreography is going to be like. Because unlike all of her past lead singles, the song isn’t 4-on-the-floor all the way through. So it won’t be a case of throwing down from start to finish “I’m a s**** 4 U” or “Me against the music” style. The only section of the song that leaves enough of a space for anybody to go to town is the final run of the chorus.

    Hmmm… I’m intrigued…

Britney NEEDS to dance her a*** off though. Because walking up and down a sound stage, flicking her ratty weave, having women squat ‘n open their legs around her, whilst a couple of muscled dudes in hot pants check up on her from behind and lift her will not cut it.

  36. beyoncecan gotohell January 29, 2011

ugh…forgot i was playing it while commenting. she’s blasted into my top five now. she’s about to overtake madonna (my all time fave!)
aaahhh….PLEASE JUST DROP THE ALBUM NOW BRITNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. kenny January 29, 2011

i love it its hot can’t wait 4 the album

  38. ket January 29, 2011

    holly s*** <3 Love it <3

  39. herlem January 29, 2011

It’s nice, but Britney’s version is X1000 better.

  40. herlem January 29, 2011

I never end up liking remixes, there are however a few exceptions, but this is not one of them LOL.

  41. getrye January 29, 2011

OMG I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! IT’S SO INCREDIBLE!!! IAM ADDICTED!!!!!!

  42. lykis January 29, 2011

Very meh. Takes all the energy and urgency out of it, and not in a good way.

  43. jason January 29, 2011

I do like this one its nice and relaxing…..

  44. jahanna January 29, 2011

S***. The original is so much better, where are the dub and club mixes?! We need something that will beat the originals beat.

  45. miley January 29, 2011

Is it true her new music video is being released February 13th the same day as lady gaga’s new song?

  46. sant January 29, 2011

    Love it <3

  47. LTM January 29, 2011

didnt take long for a gaga fan to show up lol
katy perry is a better song writter then gaga.

  48. dex January 29, 2011

lot of fans get frustrated with Britney’s team…HIAM lack of promotions, and billboard said that the song fell to #6 this week.

Britney team please put some promotions.

  49. jennifer January 29, 2011

Don’t get the hype for this mix, im sure theres better to come,

the britney team took quite long to start shooting the video, this delay is going to make people bored of the song before the video is even out…

  50. kasey January 29, 2011

    It’s just amazing! :’(

  51. kylie January 29, 2011

    Flopga….who??

  52. hunter January 29, 2011

see below, negativity and pressed people xD

    \/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/

  53. jerry January 29, 2011

LoL These days Britney is shooting HIAM music video, so the pop war will begin very, very soon 😀 But y’all know who is the winner already 😛 I hope CaCa falls with that dress (rofl) That will be the most EPIC pop moment ever (rofl)

  54. francis January 29, 2011

they are two different artists… gaga will not flop 😉 sorry darling

  55. bloodyG January 29, 2011

Both will deliver amazing albums – & I´m looking forward to enjoy music from GaGa & Britney.

    Peace!

  56. That FLOP Juice January 29, 2011

    This so funny, little kids.

You only take care of chart positions, to be #1 or not to be. MUSIC is not about that, but poor you. You can’t understand this…

@ Mariah – of course marketing is an important thing in any kind of industry, so in the music industry, but the difference between Britney and Gaga/Beyonce, that Britney has NO VOICE, she can’t sing… Her team can do any good songs, but that won’T change her lack of ability for singing. She is just an auto tune princess. People like her songs for a month, but they also LTAO on her, because she is sooo pity she can’t sing any chords live.

  57. gummy January 29, 2011

Can’t this b**** just go away…….oh and can she sound anymore desperate with the diff language thing!

  58. tiata January 29, 2011

I’m preparing for her new era too, preparing to ignore it lol…

She’s so lame, how can you “over achieve” with an album? you do the best you can and hope people like it, they act like she’s gonna put out “Thriller”, “Ray of Light” or “Stripped” when it’s just gonna be “TFM” 2.0 with added fame whoring and pumping her own ego up more.

  59. winny January 29, 2011

anyway, gag gag…..blah. who cares? the only time i’m gonna give a flying f*** about this busted hermaphrodite is when she starts failing and has a breakdown. THAT i will pay attention to!

  60. HIAM 2.0 January 29, 2011

    Hey over there
    Please forgive me
If I’m coming on too strong
    Hate to stare
    But you’re winning
And they’re playing my favorite song

    So come here
    A little closer
    Wanna whisper in your ear
    Make It clear
    Little question
Wanna know just how you feel

If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me

    Cause you feel like paradise
    I need a vacation tonight
So if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me

    Hey You might think
    That I’m crazy
But I you know I’m just your type
    I’mma be a little hazy
    But you just cannot deny

There’s a spark in between us
When we’re dancing on the floor
    I want more
    Wanna see It
    So I’m asking you tonight

If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Britney Spears Hold It Against Me lyrics found on http://www.directlyrics.com/britney-spears-hold-it-against-me-lyrics.html

Would you hold it against me

    Cause you feel like paradise
    I need a vacation tonight
So if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me

If I said I want your body
Would It Hold It Against Me?

    (Yeah)

    (Ah)

    (Oh)

    Gimme something good
Don’t wanna wait I want It now (na-na-now)
    Pop It like a hood
And show me how you work It out

    (alright)
If I said my heart was beating loud
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me

If I said my heart was beating loud
If we could escape the crowd somehow
If I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me

    Cause you feel like paradise
    I need a vacation tonight
So if I said I want your body now
Would you hold it against me

  61. herlem January 29, 2011

Wah wah. Everyone’s just trying to tear the next b**** down. Get over it, because she’s not gonna go away anytime soon.

  62. Merlin January 29, 2011

I am so disappointed that Gaga has so many people in her ear pushing this ‘extra’ agenda. She needs to go back, lose all the bells and whistles and be the herself, not the gimmick that this is HER. Her first appearance on Jay Leno (US) or was it letterman but it was her first appearance where she had her stockings on over her leotard, I love that performance. She had a freshness and innocence that now after all the Execs have gotten a firm hold of her is Gone and she is taking the Beyonce overexposure route and needs to stop and just make music. Makes one miss the days of real artists like a Prince (that let his music do his talking), Michael and no musically Britney is not on par but I too respect the fact that she does has a LIFE that she LIVES and music is a part of it and she is not obsessed with the limelight a la the others.

  63. Ahmed January 29, 2011

    Very very interesting.
It’s a shame the majority of the general public really care right now…It’s all about Britney baby

  64. queenV January 29, 2011

i can’t wait for this epic s***!!!!!!!!! I LOVE BRITNEY!!!!!!!!!!

  65. JasonHag January 29, 2011

I like Gaga’s music, but I don’t like Gaga. She’s changed too much over the past 2 years or so. I remember her first song I ever heard, Just Dance, that song was beast, and she looked great. Now she looks tired all the time, and she’s over doing it with the costumes and stuff. All she wants is attention, that’s it. I can’t wait for Britney’s new HIAM video on the 13th. Britney and Gaga war, but there’s no competition. Once people see Britney tear up the dancing on the video, they’ll be bowing and kissing her toes. Be. Prepared.

  66. opex January 29, 2011

So fun. Even early in the morning it makes me want to dance!

  67. eastern January 29, 2011

i am VERY picky with music and i will say i like it! though disagree with the other comment, im sure by play 50 i’ll be sick of it.

  68. longer January 29, 2011

Loving it! Britney makes me want to sing and dance in my seat at the office

  69. LongPen January 29, 2011

like gaga.. but i dont like the way she gets attetion,, the clothes things, the things againts god, scream all day long… i think its easy to call the public attention that way… 🙁 …lover, and her song..but maybe dont like her com.team.

  70. Surgent January 29, 2011

Ellen -> “Let’s talk about you’re new CD!”

Lady Gaga – >””Born This Way” is coming out on March..no, not March, I mean May 23. I WISH it was coming out in March…”

Ellen -> “Well, why don’t you do that?”

Lady Gaga -> “Ya know…I really wanna take the time to set it up properly…” blah blah blah.

AM I the ONLY one who caught that in the Ellen interview?????
We all know why she ain’t releasing in March….
    http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_leitq9AD1w1qbqb2ho1_500.gif

  71. lynda January 29, 2011

If u think GaGa does everything by herself, you are wrong. We thought that Beyonce does it but what happened?
I just think the lyrics sound like she got them from the “It gets better” videos. She manipulates people and tries to expand her fan base 🙂 It’s all about marketing and making money.I think she is not honest with the people and especially with herself. So “MANIFACTURED This Way” sounds better for her 😉

  72. alexender January 29, 2011

and now i see why her BTW music video will be gay-themed.
I’m not going to buy her album. Because of what?
    I’M NOT GAY!

    LOL

  73. fasy January 29, 2011

    See!
The promotion of born this way has been started (massively), and look at Britney, HIAM rocketed to #1 without any official promotion.
Ellen could boost the sales, and Grammys too.
I see Gaga has to do everything in order to make sure her album & songs be at #1.

I’m still waiting Britney’s HIAM music video (i heard it’s gonna be fantastic).

  74. cyndre January 29, 2011

    LOL. no.

  75. TMZ January 29, 2011

Thankgod I’m also an britney stan.

  76. Jason January 29, 2011

“Britney has proven yet again that NO pop artist has the longevity, fanatical fan base and sheer sizzle that she does! In a marketplace littered with supposed heirs to her throne, the first single from her forthcoming 7th studio album, “Hold it Against Me,” exploded on impact. First week sales of well over 400k show the huge demand for her music, and all things Britney. In fact, “Hold it Against Me” enjoyed the biggest first week track sales for a female artist EVER, eclipsing the previous record holder Taylor Swift. Britney is just the second artist (joining Mariah) in Billboard’s history to debut multiple songs in the #1 slot. Outside the US the single debuted at #1 in over 20 (!) countries, proving once again that Britney Spears IS the worldwide Queen of Pop.

The US radio picture has been equally explosive. “Hold it Against Me” shattered all previous records for most number of spins at radio in a first day (and one day) period at both Mediabase and BDS! Strong early call out and a flood of requests were immediate. The video will be a s***, edgy dance piece directed by Jonas
Akerlund and showing Britney at peak form and ability. In short, Britney has one of the biggest records of her unparalleled career with “Hold it Against Me.” This rabid reaction is sure to feed the already unbridled anticipation for her brand new album, due out on 3/15.

Once again the industry’s creme de la creme have lined up to work with the legendary Ms. Spears. Back with multiple songs to add to their amazing track record with Britney are Max Martin and Dr. Luke (“Hold it Against Me”). The album also features tracks/production by proven hitmakers Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith, and Bloodshy & Avant, to name a few. As is always the way with a new Britney release, look for a major TV event to launch the album, and of course the usual non-stop press coverage on all things Britney. On the heels of “Circus” and its top-grossing, sold-out worldwide tour, make no mistake that fans are ready and waiting for more of Britney! She NEVER disappoints, and NOBODY comes close!”

  77. martin January 29, 2011

Even though we reported Britney’s new album’s out March 15 two weeks ago, we’ll let it slide. Just this time!

Britney’s rep confirmed to MTV.com the 3/15 release date.

Now we just need an album title

  78. aleb January 29, 2011

we knew that but cant wait!:bow::bow::shake::shake::shake::shake::shake:

  79. jack January 29, 2011

“In terms of Spears’ press plans, the follow-up to 2008’s Circus will be met with “a major TV event to launch the album”

    Grammys???
    😀

  80. lyn January 29, 2011

We already knew the album’s release date, and they took most of the things from the rumoured Song Sell Sheet (Which I pray is fake, I’m sorry, Britney needs to promote her music, Tweeting can’t be the only promotion she does this era!

  81. ananda January 29, 2011

Wait, would a major TV event be Britney promoting the album with performances on many TV shows like Ellen, Oprah or something?

  82. Ann January 29, 2011

I’m dead at the promotion plans!!!!!

  83. HANN January 29, 2011

    @ThatFlopJuice

  87. tom January 29, 2011

Everything, from the bottle design to the name and the ideas for the commercials—that’s me”.[213] In November 2010, it was revealed that the fragrance’s television commercial had been banned from UK daytime TV, after it received 14 viewer complaints. @ Surgent. That’s damned hilarious! Especially seeing as how her album was supposed to originally drop in March. Was that the best answer she could come up with? Making sure her album is proper? FAIL.

The funny thing is that she’s releasing BTW 3 months after the first single.

  128. fernando January 29, 2011

@Speaks truth you are not slaying anybody.
Seems like no one cares about you.

  130. Janet January 29, 2011

i keep wondering why she needs to release born this way in May?
i heard that the album just wrapped up (since December) and ready to release.
it must be somethin about Britney’s team.

They will make a review on Britney’s new album in March and then make a final cut for Born This Way. I smell some agenda.
If Gaga isn’t deliver better album than Britney’s..that would be a huge humiliation for her team.

    LOL
