Jazmine Sullivan made a shocking announcement on Twitter today. The R&B singer revealed to thousands of fans that she intends to take a break from music, placing her budding career on hold. Check out what she had to say below:

This is quite surprising to say the least. Sullivan’s ‘Love Me Back’ LP was one of the best releases of 2010, receiving enormous critical acclaim. As we do not know what is occurring behind the scenes all we can do is hope that she finds her way back to the industry. A talent like hers will be sorely missed.

    Sad.

  2. luvmedj January 3, 2011

This is very shocking, and it HAS to be some reasoning behind this! You don’t just back out of music with 2 Grammy Nods and an excellent album. I’m thinking she got dropped and maybe this is a cop out way to let fans know we won’t be hearing ish else from her until she finds a new label home!

  3. GERREN January 3, 2011

I am deeply saddened by this news. Jazmine Sullivan is a gem in this industry. Her talent is inimitable. It’s quite shocking, especially considering her album was probably my favorite release of 2010.

  4. Ken Dahl January 3, 2011

    Poor thing

  5. Anthony The Great January 3, 2011

I kind of knew something was up, because in her interviews she never really seemed that interested.

It doesn’t seem she is having problem’s with her label, but more with herself as she said. Her last album was incredible.

  6. Anita January 3, 2011

Although its a shame, I’m glad that shes taking a break (to solve whatever the problem is) rather than leaving it too late. Many artists fail to recognise when they really need to take a step back and concentrate on themselves – mentally/spiritually etc – so they end up burning out and getting into stupid ish. Hopefully she gets what she wants out of this break, and comes back better than ever.

  7. MA’AM January 3, 2011

SHE SPELLED MIKE WRONG ….ITS SUPPOSE TO BE MIC..

BUT HOPE SHE MAKES IT OUT WELL…DID HER LAST ALBUM FLOP OR SOMETHING? IF THATS HER REASONING THEN IONO HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THAT

  8. Annabelle January 3, 2011

    Who is she?

  9. Hop-Scotch January 3, 2011

WOW!!!!!!! D: I’ve followed Jasmine Sullivan ever since 2007’s “NEED U BAD” – That song was FIRE and just amplified the joy that I have in being ‘Jamaican’!!! I will miss her; the talent, song-writing, performing etc… But Don’t worry Jaz, your fans will ALWAYS be there with you! (But I do HOPE that by early-mid 2012 (even 2011) she realises her TRUE dream)

  10. ~BeySoBreezy~ January 3, 2011

NOOOOOOOOOOO! My beautiful and talented Jazzy? I need to lay down 🙁

  11. luvmedj January 3, 2011

Outside looking in we think its all roses, but I’m sure for an artist its SO MUCH to deal with, all the pressure can take away the fun and LOVE for the music. I hope she gets things together because she’s a talent that we NEED in this industry! She had the REAL music.

  12. 2BAD2BME January 3, 2011

I BELIEVE THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS JUST GETTING WAY OUT OF HAND…ITS ENTIRELY JUST TOO MUCH GOING ON!

  13. spring January 3, 2011

omg!! i never really listened to her music tho i heard shes really good…
    hmm. . . . can sum1 say ILLUMINATI

  14. jayemonroe January 3, 2011

i’m thinking she was dropped as well, and is now using this time to redirect her sound and her future. Its the Chrisette Michele syndrome: beautiful and talented songstress who just can’t find the mainstream success needed to sustain a career. i wish JS the best of luck though.

  15. NE-YO*STAN January 3, 2011

The music industry seems just like college… you have to meet certain requirements, year after year, and it feels like it never ends. I wish Jazmine the best during her sabbatical!

  16. Mari January 3, 2011

    @jayemonroe

did her last album tank? is it out? I thought that Circles was a successful single for her and that the album did decent numers?

  17. number1k9 January 3, 2011

She musta got dropped by her label..

Sad to say that, but I think that’s prob the fate!

  18. Robier January 3, 2011

    DAMN

  19. AngelBFly January 3, 2011

Awww… She’s AMAZING & will def. be missed. but everyone needs a break, I hope everything will be ok.. Can’t wait for her to be back & want to be back

  20. Jeremy Danté January 3, 2011

    this is so devastating.

  21. Kyle January 3, 2011

I hope something happens and she changes her mind because I think Jazmine is one of the best things that has happened to the R&B genre in awhile. Wonder if she wins a Grammy she’ll change her mind??? I know she really wants one. “Love Me Back” is such a great album…bought 2 copies:)

  22. crbb January 3, 2011

was just listening to ‘excuse me’ and then saw this! This is what happens when un-talented ‘goodlooking’ people get signed and hyped about instead of raw talent!!!annoys me so much jazmines such an amazing talent and its took her so long to get recognised ., after all here hard work!
h*** like ke$ha running the charts and headlining tours while artist like jazmine are soo underrated! i hate the music industry nowadays, send me back to the 80’s or 90’s!

  23. tel January 3, 2011

im seriously crying, i swear i can’t take this industry. the real aartists never get the shine they deserve. blastin her music at the current moment and will continue. this is just like losing lauryn hill or any other great music. i kept tellin everybosy we need to support real music so we could change the industry but not everybody listens man i swear her music has gotten me through soooo much i can’t even explain, but i repect every decision she makes because i would rather her take a break than lose herself as an artist && in the words of jazmine sullivan herself, “what ain’t fair is NO ONE cares if you ain’t famous…”

  24. Kyle January 3, 2011

Not to mention didn’t she just receive Billboard’s ‘Rising Star’ award this year? I still think her future looks bright. Who cares if she doesn’t sell a lot of records or look like a barbie doll? I can see her creating a strong following if she toured at smaller venues or something. I really hope this doesn’t have to do with label politics because Jazmine is too strong of a force to be f***ed with. Honestly, she is a “true artist.”

  25. monique January 3, 2011

i didnt buy your album but i believe that you are an amazing artists, if you take your break i will be here when you get back. good luck jasmine

  26. NAS ( B Rockah Stan 4eva) January 3, 2011

LOL@crbb, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN AND WISHED I COULD STAY IN THE 80’S AND 90’S 4EVER WITHOUT TAKING A TINY STEP INTO THIS JOKE OF AN ERRA. ALL THE BEST OT HER AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO Y’ALL………………………..#TEAMBRANDY!!

FOLLOW BRANDY AND ME ON TWITTER, Y’ALL!!

  27. Prince January 3, 2011

Darn jus when i was beginning 2 like her music. Excuse Me, Dont Make Me Wait and 10 seconds and Holding U Down are some of the Best songs she ever made. She better release Excuse Me as a single! If u wanna hear a Great Soul album her album Love Me Back is Everything!

Truly shocking. I dunno about this.

  29. WTFFFFFFFFFFFF January 3, 2011

    WTFFFFFFF ???????????????

    I’m angry, sad & bitter.

Jazmine, you can’t let your fans down. No, i don’t wanna believe it !

I can’t believe it. Jazmine, WHY?

  30. TIMMI January 3, 2011

WOW. I don’t really check for this girl but I searched her up on YouTube and clicked on her singing in “The Wiz” aged 11. She’s a diamond amongst dirt in the music industry today.

The state of the industry is a shame. It’s sad she don’t believe in herself because she’s real talented.

  31. TIMMI January 3, 2011

Yeah I was gonna’ say, I feel sorry for her fans.

    Mariah would never.

  32. WTFFFFFFFFFFFF January 3, 2011

Jazmine doesn’t know how good she is. All the genius don’t realize how good they are and suffer low self-esteem.
    She’s so deep and real. Life’s a b****.

  33. KWON CAMPBELL January 3, 2011

    OMG I CAN’T DEAL… WTF?!?!?!?!?

  34. badaboss January 3, 2011

For some reason I don’t think she is going to get dropped. I think its something personal. I don’t recall a label dropping a recently grammy nominated artist, unless they told her that the’l drop her if she doesn’t win it. Heck… I really want to know what her reasoning is behind this decision.

  35. ~BeySoBreezy~ January 3, 2011

I’m seriously on the verge of tears right now. I hope she changes her mind….

  36. Dane January 3, 2011

    Good by and good riddance…

  37. almostpia January 3, 2011

This is why the music industry sucks! People can be vocally great but because they don’t have the look they aren’t supported by the “brainwashed” masses or record companies. I wish Jasmine the best!

  38. LikethisAndLikeThat January 3, 2011

Maybe she just broke up with her boyfriend…and she’s just a bit depressed. What does she man when she says “I got some things to figure out”. I’m gonna go crazy if she doesn’t tell us more. Jazmine, say it was a joke. please. You’re so needed in this s***** industry.

  39. UGh January 3, 2011

Something ain’t right. We don’t know what really goes on behind the scenes.

  40. how funny ! January 3, 2011

SHE IS ONLY SEEKING ATTENTION!!!!! N PEOPLE PLEASE QUIT LYING. SAYIN U SAD N ALL WHILE IM SURE MOST OF PEOPLE WHO COMMENTED DDNT EVEN BOTHER 2 BUY HER ALBUMS….I REALLY FEEL NOTHING. THERE RE MANY SINGERS OUT THERE WHO WANNA MAKE IT. I HOPE SOMEONE ELSE GONNA GET SIGNED. SHE IS SO FORGETABLE BELIEVE ME 🙂

  41. Robier January 3, 2011

I WILL TRULY AGREE THAT PEOPLE DIDN’T BUY HER ALBUM SO DON’T FAKE NOW

Jazmine’s voice is one of a kind. A rare talent.

  44. Tami January 3, 2011

You all know you didn’t even buy this girl’s album and now you sad about her leaving *Side eye* I’m just sayin. I have her album and she is so TALENTED.It’s a shame that REAL TALENT gets overlooked in this industry for some stupid pop s*** no talent artist. SMH!I

  45. stan January 3, 2011

um that’s kinda random. i think she has personal stuff to deal with. definitely don’t think she’s getting dropped.

  46. NoirPrince January 3, 2011

It’s a trip how a person asks God for something all their life and when the finally get… they drop it. The old folks call that #ungrateful . There is alwayz more than one way to skin a cat. If the way you’ve been doing it isn’t fun nemore, then try a new way. Our people don’t need no more talented quitters #noshade

  47. @tinamusicaddict (Tina) January 3, 2011

in tears rite now, ballin my eyes out, cant believe it, && this is what happens to UNDER-rated artists that dnt get the support they deserve, smh. i HATE the MUSIC INDUSTRY!!! why can’t the talented survive in it? it’s supposed to be about the music? smh., WHY?

  48. S*** January 3, 2011

Lets all take a moment to just Boo Hoo for Jasmine Sufferin.

When we have other great & Better vocalist like Beyonce & Mariah who needs Ms. Strugglin??

  49. ~BeySoBreezy~ January 3, 2011

Im listening to her album now, but I somewhat agree with the others. How many of you actually bought her album? Its pure perfection…

  50. Yellow Gorillah January 3, 2011

    I ain’t even gone Lie

I did not buy her albums but I had a few of her songs

I do agree that she was very talented but to be honest she was not all that so yall can sit down about crying because I know most of yall did not even check for her personally she does not have that it factor yes you can be a talented vocalist but you still need to have that it factor you still need to be marketable look at whitney and mariah

I’m sick of people talking about talent talent NO! If it was allll about talent why the hell is she not as big as the rest of the other black female artist please don’t just set your minds on talent and think that will take you far not in this industry anyways.

    as rihanna said

“It’s just the way the game is played it’s best if you just wait your turn”

*I have a feeling she will be back*

  51. @tinamusicaddict (Tina) January 3, 2011

MUSIC IS ABOUT TALENT. It’s because of people like you who support and BUY gimmicks that the industry is corrupted.
I BLAME ALL OF YOU WHO SUPPORT TALENTLESS SINGERS.

  54. ~BeySoBreezy~ January 3, 2011

It factor? I thought the talent was the It factor? B*******! This has everything to do with how fixed and corrupt the industry has become.

  55. @tinamusicaddict (Tina) January 3, 2011

IF UR SICK OF TALENT U JUST LIKE DA REST OF THIS BRAIN WASHED WORLD!!!! MUSIC WAS ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT TALENT, IF U WANT TO SUPPORT SOMEBODY WITH A GOOD IMAGE SUPPORT MODELS AT LEAST THAT’S WHAT THEY WANT TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR!

  56. BENJAMIN January 3, 2011

Might be having some personal issues.

  57. Yellow Gorillah January 3, 2011

    LOOOOOL

    Why yall mad

All of yall soooo delusional talking about talent this talent that I’m sick of hearing about talent.

How many black girls do yall know that can sing I know sooooo many and guess what only a handful of them have a chance to make it do you want to know why because they have the it factor

I know people who can sing “Like beyonce
or can sing like “Whitney” but it does not make them a star nobody is saying you don’t need talent because you do but at the same time you need to have something about you that set’s you apart from the rest

If it was all just about talent don’t yall think there would be waaaaay more artist out right now please I’m just telling the truth

  58. Jahlal January 3, 2011

1/ SHE GETTING DROPED 2/ SHE WANNA RUN AWAY WITH HER MAN MISSY ELIOTT 3/ JUST CANT BE F!CKED WITH THE INDUSTRY!!!

  59. S*** January 3, 2011

Well damn the music industry is a b****…atleast I got the ‘Love Me Back’ lp; pretty dope record.

  61. kc36 January 3, 2011

I saw her tweets earlier but they are gone now. Whatever problem she has I hope she works them out cause she is a true talent and I have both her albums. She must be going thru something cause she has been tweeting things the last couple of weeks that was letting me know she was kinda down but she deleted them. Get better jazmine.

  62. S*** January 3, 2011

LMAO, At all these B****** QUITTING on Beyonce, If Beyonce as to be the ONLY one with talent reigning in this idustry today then so be it. Dont hate the game, hate Beyonce. 🙂

LMAO @ all these B****** QUITTING on Beyonce, If Beyonce has to be the ONLY one with talent still reigning in this industry today then so be it. Dont hate the game, hate Beyonce. 🙂

  64. Squeeze January 3, 2011

Maybe her label told her there will be no third single…and she got mad. lol
I can’t bare this silence. Jazmine tell us RIGHT NOW.

  65. Squeeze January 3, 2011

    @KC36

What did she say in these deleted tweets?

  66. S*** January 3, 2011

I AGREE with @ Yellow Gorillah (for the very 1st time)

“It’s just the way the game is played it’s best if you just wait your turn”

  67. PLAIN & SIMPLE January 3, 2011

WOW that’s ashme she is so talanted and can really sing. The industry sucks they want to keep pushing non-talent people down our throats. I mean this s*** is awful. If is was the industry just what did they want her to do sell her soul for fame. Have s** with different men & women in the industry because that what some of the others are doing for fame.

Have you notice that you only hear one no talent, no singing person. All of our good singers WHERE THE HELL ARE THEY. I tell you one thing I will never buy any CD from this certain label don’t want to call out the label’s name

  68. PLAIN & SIMPLE January 3, 2011

    oops if it

  69. Robier January 3, 2011

SMH THIS IS CRAZY. WE NEED HER.

  70. Nichole January 3, 2011

The industry don’t give a rats ass about genuine, raw talent anymore.

It seems to me that you have to be talentless with good looks in order to sell records, and have some relevancy in the music industry these days.

I think Jazmine is disappointed in her album under performing, and she is probably very bothered by a lot of the lack of talent getting so much exposure.

We need other black female singers doing it big. Not just Beyonce, and Rihanna.

  71. Tk January 3, 2011

I’m not gonna implicate anyone else, nor will I question her motives, as I’m sure this is something that has been deeply thought upon..and who are we to step in the way of someone eles’s personal journey?

At the sametime however, this news does sadden me as well as others, I am sure. This right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3T98PDRS5A is a talent that only comes around every 5-10 years, and she was JUST barely gettin here feet wet!! I’d hate to believe that the lack of support she received/is receiving by the ‘industry’, or public was a determinant in her decesion. if so, I feel SOOOOOOO bad for where music is going!! Love Jazmine

  72. GROW UP PLEASE!!!!!!!!! January 3, 2011

I have both her albums and she is talented but I have to agree with @YELLOW GORILLA and @S*** u have to have that something and that’s just the way it is
    S*** SHE CAN SING THOUGH

  73. Keesha January 3, 2011

“Outside looking in we think its all roses, but I’m sure for an artist its SO MUCH to deal with, all the pressure can take away the fun and LOVE for the music. I hope she gets things together because she’s a talent that we NEED in this industry! She had the REAL music.”

    I agree.

    “@Yellow gorillah and s***

MUSIC IS ABOUT TALENT. It’s because of people like you who support and BUY gimmicks that the industry is corrupted.
I BLAME ALL OF YOU WHO SUPPORT TALENTLESS SINGERS.”

    Exactly.

Personally, I hope it isn’t Jaz being dropped from her label, because she is very talented. I hope that it really is her trying to find herself. I also hope that she doesn’t give up on music though. I wish her the best.

  74. Keesha January 3, 2011

To all of the people saying that you have to have that “it factor”, I do agree, but when I look back at all of the icons, yes they had that “it factor”, but guess what they also had? TALENT. When we look back at some of these artists that are popular now, are we really going to be saying that they are icons or legends in 20, maybe 30 years?

  75. Dave January 3, 2011

I COMPLETELY AGREE W/ @Keesha & Yellow gorillah & s***. I’m saddened, but it’s about HER as a person too. She’s a person too. Let her work on her & deal with some issues.

  76. phillyjewel January 3, 2011

Jazmine was not dropped at all I can’t stand people taking ish and running with it maybe she is a young girl that got overwhelemed with the fast pace of th business tha last time I checked u don’t get grammy nominated 6 times las year 2 times this year for nothing! Either way she’s paid by all the songs she wrote for people and her ablums actually did very well for a freshamn and a sophmore smh jus pray for her and if u don’t care then y even waste your time and comment

  77. HOW FUNNY January 3, 2011

actually im kinda mad that she’s leavin thats why i said shes seekin attention. imma miss her so much. people sayin u have to have the “it factor”…lol r u assumin “be half naked on videos???” or sellin s**??? c’mon
cuz beyonce is half naked on her videos, same with rihanna, kesha, katy perry, GAGA… now some good girls recently went bad : kelly rowland in commander, keri hilson, ciara in ride.
is that the “it factor”??? if i were jazmine, i would quit, instead of showin my ass on tv

  78. Realtalk 101 January 3, 2011

Yes Jazmine can sing but we’re living in a time where a hit song has to be visible especially if your not white. Unfortunately Jazmine never disciplined herself with the weight thing and hanging out with Missy didnt help her cause either. She must’ve thought she had the same privileges as Kelly Clarson. Very sad but the lesson is we still live in a f’d up world so it’s “Go Hard or Go Home”.

  79. Tk January 3, 2011

LOL @ the clown is says {} is a better vocalist than Jazmine, when outside of her her inner circle(shrine), she’s barely considered above avergae, while Jazmine’s voie is just magic on wheels!! Also if ‘good music’ is one of the reqirements to make, well that’s another asterisk!! …HHAHAHAHAHAAH

  80. RihannaForever January 3, 2011

    NO!!!

Well, I just hope whatever is going on in her life is fixed ASAP because she is amazing.

  81. Drew January 3, 2011

It’s not fun for her anymore? Maybe her label did something to upset her…

  82. Fried Eggs January 3, 2011

“Love Me Back” without a doubt was an exceptional album for 2010. It’s quite evident that what is going on here is that she has been approached by *coughs* and her leaving is the only way she can avoid them. Jaz comes off as a very talented singer and her ever growing fan base wants to be tapped into. Jaz doesn’t show any sign of violence s** and drugs in her songs and videos but is somehow staying afloat. She has been noticed and these people want to take advantage of that and penetrate her fan base. Look at Beyonce, Rihanna, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga: the direct opposite of what Jaz is doing.
And as for talent and ‘It Factor’. Hello, Talent is the very first step and if the record label gave jaz the required attention, they would brand her style and sell it to the ever gullible public(who in my case will take just about anything these days).

She has deleted her tweets as I type this, leaving only the last one. Maybe she got a phone call instructing her to do so? Maybe she still contemplating the offer?

  83. S*** January 3, 2011

    @Realtalk 101

    You got that right!!

    “Go Hard or Go Home”

  84. Tk January 3, 2011

…HORRIBLE!!! At least half-assed. I never seen someone who just as ‘loud’, and screams justt the same as J-Hud, and Aguilera, yet and STILL has a fundamental lack of soul!! LOL!!! I being dead serious though…real question, how is that possible?!! All the wailing, and carrying on, the entire time I’m looking at her: her hair, sweat on her brow, bangin body(lol) but NOT her average pop-friendly voice, smh!!

Raw undeniable talent w/o the horrible theatrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3T98PDRS5A

  85. Credits January 3, 2011

Why would her label drop her? i don’t think it is that. i mean…sure the album didn’t sell that much but she is a definite talent. And besides, isn’t she writing for Monica (who is on the same label) and creating hits for her??

  86. Mynameis.. January 3, 2011

    Jazmine,

You are a fearless flop. Accept defeat like a trooper and punch to the EBT line. I wish some of the below flops were as brave as you.

    Ciara,
    Brandy
    Kelly Rowland
    Kelis
    Amerie
    And the list goes on.,,

  87. Lele January 3, 2011

    Maybe she’s pregnant?

  88. Tami January 3, 2011

MYNAMEIS please be quiet ….You think people want to get up and listen to Beyonce and Rihanna everyday . We need those said flops to make the music industry diverse. I love Amerie’s sound and Jazmines deep soulful voice.

  89. Mynameis.. January 3, 2011

    @Tami,

How are the flops going to make the music industry more diverse if no one is checking for them, and that includes radio, video-outlets and the most important the public. Jazmine was never a big seller, and she knows. There are a handful of R/B singers who are able to sell records and unfortunately Jazmine and the other flops I listed are not in that group.

  90. RJJ12 January 3, 2011

She needs to release “Fame” to Urban radio and simultaneously release “Dont Make Me Wait” to pop/top 40 radio. These artists need to start releasing multiple singles that fit different markets to stay successful and get their name out there.

  91. True Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ Blue January 3, 2011

    @ S***:

Quit being an asshole. Not everything has to be about Beyoncé. You’re almost acting like Nicky, bringing up your fave in posts that have NOTHING to do with her.

Anyway, I don’t know what is up with Jazmine, but whatever it is, I hope it is only temporary. And I hope her label doesn’t have anything to do with that decision, because I already have little faith in the music industry as it is. Why can’t it be the talentless artists that need to take a break instead? I would love to wake up to the news that Soulja B**** is retiring from music.

  92. NUNYA January 3, 2011

I purchased her cd and I love it. Well I hope she finds herself. At least she know when she need to take a break for herself. I wish her well and hope she comes back much stronger.

NOW ONLY IF ( INSERT NAME HERE ) TAKES A BREAK ALSO,LOL

  93. theman January 3, 2011

I don’t think she’s being dropped, but i do think that she’s upset that her album isn’t doing what it shoulc or could be doing. I don’t think she’s being promoted enough. Her album did decent numbers when it first came out, i expected a little better, but still alright none the less. I think she could also be doing this to make a statement.

There may be something that she needs to take care of on her own terms. But i wish her the best of luck, you see this got her a few people saying that they’ll purchase or repurchase the album.

  94. vegasgirl January 3, 2011

Jasmine will be back if she really goes anywhere. Jasmine’s voice is her “it” factor, don’t hear anyone that sounds like her right now. The “it ” factor is debatable and very fluid, what is an “it” factor for one is not for the other. If her label really wanted her to be successful they would pump money into her like they do for every artist that is currently doing well. And through the illusion of success and fame comes the talk about people possessing a pseudo “it” factor, IMO.

Talent has little to do with success in music more now than seemingly before. Most is luck because for every artist out there there are people equally talented without the access to everything major label artists have. Jasmine probably won’t really leave music, she’s writing for people and what not.

Fantastic voice though, her voice moves me, no joke!

  95. omzir January 3, 2011

see she let the industry eat her… trying to make songs that were relevant! artists need to stop trying to please radio and media and just do their thing… the respect will come… as it did for many of the great artists.

  96. mindgames January 3, 2011

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! she was one of the more talented gorls out there. why why whyyyy!!!!? D:

  97. BEYJAZZY January 3, 2011

But i hope whatever problems she is facing she gets through them! She really deserves to be happy!
I hope she comes back to her music. It is what she was put on this planet for!!

  98. gfhfgh January 3, 2011

  99. Islandflava January 3, 2011

Artists being in the music industry for 3 years and already calling it quits. Two nominations at the grammys then when REAL TALENT comes they dont get acknowledge. Lets dont forget Alicia Keys Unthinkable and try sleeping with a broken heart both did BETTER THAN HER AND SHE TALKING ABOUT QUITS.

  100. Melinda January 3, 2011

Well if more people spent time commenting on a Jay Sullivan post, buying her album, supporting her on her social media sites etc then maybe she wouldn’t be on the verge of potentially leaving the industry. We can’t complain that the music industry is crap whilst over praising sub-par artists over talented ones.

If Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Aretha were young now and were trying to make it, despite their incredible talents I don’t think they’d stand a chance because people are now brainwashed into believing that ‘Beyonce is like sooo the best singer ever!’

What happened to diversity, talent, music?

  101. So Confused January 3, 2011

I think she might be pregnant. I’m not saying she’s fat or anything like that because I know that Jazmine Is a curvy woman, but I’ve noticed over the last couple of months she’s been filling out a little more. Not saying If she were to be pregnant she would try to hide it. She may want the main focus to be this album. I don’t know I could be wrong, I mean I haven’t really seen any recent recent pictures of her. So I couldn’t say for sure, It was just a thought.

  102. Beyonce: The Queen of Pop & Soul January 3, 2011

I am going to post what I said on another site: Not every artist is meant to mainstream. I love what one poster said about Jaz saying that everyone should have their lane as entertainers. Whatever that is.

The problem is people think that “talent”= Mainstream success(I put that in quotes because it’s subjective, really. Especially when it comes to the normal music fan listening to music). It don’t always work like that because the industry is about image and being able to have their fanbase feel that they can relate to them. It’s the total package these days. I wish people would realize that the industry is business first and whether an entertainer has an “abstract” or non-“abstract” image, the industry will use BOTH to make money. People need to realize that.
    —–
So what I am saying is that labels sign artists for marketability potential, first. Then craft their image for whatever demographic that they marketed for. Not every artists is signed to be mainstream/commercial and there are artists who are signed for that purpose. And any time that producers can use auto-tune, pro-tools and etc, talent isn’t everything. So then what? If you like an artist/entertainer then it don’t matter whether they are famous or a star. You just like their music and that’s that.

  103. Realtalk 101 January 3, 2011

Pregnant? By who Missy Elliot? Jazmine has been dropped before by JIVE so it wouldn’t be surprising to see her dropped again. Labels are in the money making business and their goal is to make money by pleasing record buyers. It takes money to make a cd, market and promote it. When an artiist has a multi-million dollar tab but can’t even bring back a million it becomes bad business to continue to spend on that artist. If J-Hud can have a baby then come back better than ever then why can’t Jazmine (who has no kids) get on her game? When someone is investing millions of dollars in you you should feel obligated to bring your A game to the table.

  104. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ January 3, 2011

This is pretty sad. I love Jazmine and I think her voice and music is amazing. Such a great talent. 🙁

And I honestly don’t think it has anything to do with her label, I think it’s more so a personal issue.

  105. Speechless January 3, 2011

Im reading these comments and most of yall b****** didnt even buy her album so why you cryin????

  106. lola January 3, 2011

I agree that I think she was dropped as well. She had me believe that she was really taking a break but after reading comments that said she probably got dropped, I started to believe the same. Why does she have to be such a liar about it? I just hate it when music artists lie about being dropped and come up with some long ass, deep, false story examples include Amerie, Kelly Rowland, Teairra Marri… Jasmine’s voice is so damn abrasive! All she does is yell the damn songs. She is just not a great singer and her music is so damn gloomy and drab! With that said I never disliked her and I wished her the best of luck with her career because at least she was actually singing meaningful songs and being about the music. It’s so f***** up how so many singers stay in this industry when they can’t sing or can barely singer or just aren’t that great of singers. Examples include

    Rihanna
    Kesha
    Britney Spears
    Ciara
    Keri Hilson
    Lady Gaga
    and Beyonce

I wish people would stop acting like Beyonce is such a bad ass chick. Beyonce’s voice sounds like any ol black woman’s voice. It’s not unique, amazing, or different. She gets by on the types of songs she sings and her sexual and glamorous image. Lady Gaga’s voice is so damn generic and she sounds a mess live and her dancing is pathetic. All she is is “show.” Rihanna prances around damn near naked and talks about how sexual she is with her goat voice… this industry is f***** up and I blame them but I also blame these dumbass people who support these acts! WTf is wrong with y’all? Y’all are so obsessed with seeing ass, tits, and c****** and fashion instead of seeing someone sing his/her heart out. This is why nobody is checking for Leona Lewis anymore.

  107. dillpickle January 3, 2011

    ^^Amen

  108. antertain January 3, 2011

    Lyrical content AMAZING!
    Singing ability GREAT!

Fearless & Love Me Back are outstanding albums and show what an intense, creative songwriter Jazmine is.

I can’t stop playing REDEMPTION from her new album BUT loads of quality on there.

Lions, Tigers, Bears, Need U Bad, Bust Your Windows, Dream Big, After The Hurricane, In Love With Another Man, Holding You Down, 10 seconds, Good Enough, Redempion, Excuse Me, Stuttering, Famous, In Vain (QUALITY Vocally & Lyrically)

A waste of an exceptional talent if she stays away.
Let music be your theapy Jaz. Do what you gotta do and hope you be back sooner rather than later.

  109. i’m a billy goat January 3, 2011

Wow, this is disappointing. Jaz is one of the few actually singers in this fake, auto-tune, fixed @ss industry! I would love to know what’s actually going on. She must be in a dispute with her record company. I think companies are really pressuring artsist who don’t sell 500k in their 1st week. Its not something that will happen to all artists but that doesn’t mean they are not good!

Man, I hate the music industry! They either drive talent away or try to block them to prop up the select few they want to succeed!

  110. Beyoncé: The Queen of Pop & Soul January 3, 2011

    @Lola

So you’re saying that Leona Lewis is a PERFECT VOCALIST, right? Because she’s not. Far from it. At her best, she’s just good. Her voice is not unique, either. Not to mention, she tends to be flat also.

  111. Beyoncé: The Queen of Pop & Soul January 3, 2011

    @I am a Billy Goat

Well, Jaz is signed with Clive Davis. That’s all that you need to know.

  112. S*** January 3, 2011

    @ lola

I must argue to things with you.

    1. Beyonce’s voice IS very Unique as is Mariah’s, Rihanna’s, MJ’s ETC

& 2. Beyonce >>> Leona whom sounds like a LITTLE GIRL, shes such a pre-mature vocalist IMO. Call me when her voice hits PUBERTY.

  113. Nichole January 3, 2011

@Lola. Lord knows I’m not a Bey fan, but I don’t think it was fair of you to put her in the same category as the others. No, she isn’t a great singer but she has more talent in her pinky finger than a few of the chicks you mentioned and that includes Britney.

Yes, a lot of us do support those women but that doesn’t make us dumb-asses nor does it mean we don’t appreciate real talent and music. I have a huge appreciation for both, and the majority of the artists I love are mainly from back in the day when real talent actually prevailed.

  114. S*** January 3, 2011

    @ lola

You might find some singers out there with a HINT of Bey & Mimi’s Voice out there but call me when you find the REAL DEAL!!…

I have YET to see a solid MATCH.

  115. Nichole January 3, 2011

For example, I love Britney and know she lacks in musical talent but I became a fan because of her stage presence and music. This was back then when was actually Britney Spears.

I’m not referring to the one we have these days, whom is just pure lazy and acts as if she doesn’t want to perform nor make music anymore.

  116. MaZ January 3, 2011

She will be missed! “Love me Back” is one of the best R&B album of 2010 or should I say the best. She needed to promote it more… so many potential and good singles.
She’s true to herself, which is a very good thing in this crazy industry. Wish her the best.

  117. Realtalk 101 January 4, 2011

It’s simple. Some artist are entertainers and some are true artist. Britney in her hey day was an entertainer that RiRi, Kesha and Gaga, etc fall short of being. Madonna was an entertainer not a true artist. Jazmine has the voice of a true artist but lacks the persona, stage presence and swagger of a star and didnt seem to give a damn about working on that so you can’t feel sorry for someone that get’s the opportunity of a lifetime but doesn’t take advantage of it. I agree with LOLA on her list but Beyonce shouldn’t be on that list. Although Bey doesn’t have a very distinctive voice but she has mad skills and is a true artist. Not on prime Mariah and Whitney’s level but still a true artist.

  118. djames January 4, 2011

I like Bey but I can’t at these people are calling her a “true artist”. She is nothing more than an entertainer who wants everyone to think she is an artist…

  119. Yeah January 4, 2011

What a loss for music if she really does that. Fight the power Jazzy!

  120. lisa January 4, 2011

SHE DON’T HAVE THE LOOK IT TAKES TO GO ALONG WITH HER SINGING, YOU HAVE TO BE A PACKAGE DEAL!

  121. Sketch January 9, 2011

Damn alot of people have comments…Let me start by saying I Love Me Some Jazzie..dats what i call her and how i spells it..but yea, i have alot of respect for her what ever her reason is.
