New Video: Marsha Ambrosius – ‘Far Away’

Published: Wednesday 5th Jan 2011 by Trent

Marsha Ambrosius has debuted the video for her single, ‘Far Away’. The R&B singer/songwriter will be releasing her new album, ‘Late Nights & Early Mornings’, later this year. Check out the video for the Just Blaze-produced below:

This video exemplifies the power of music to tackle social issues. Rather than putting on a leotard or a colorful wig and dancing in circles to a catchy beat, Ambrosius addressed the problems facing the gay community through song. Vocally and lyrically the track is quite effective but the visual took it to another level. Well done.

    That being said Marsha Ambrosius Bold and Beautiful visual effort is Outstanding!!!.. I never thought I’d see the likes of this in real R&B. The tone wasnt exploitative or vulgar; the message was true and spoke Volumes to the plight of not only gay men and women but everyone who struggles with discrimination and also thoughts of s******. Bravo Marsha!!

    Damn, now that’s how you do a video with a message! It could have been another sappy ass love song video with the side piece f****** up the gam, but that was SERIOUS! Not only are her vocals on point, she has worked her ass off literally! Damn,,,,just damn,,,speechless! I will be supporting this project…big ups!

  10. Dave January 5, 2011

  23. Keesha January 5, 2011

    I LOVE this!

    Now, I will NEVER understand how someone could be attracted to someone of the same gender, but at the same time, I’ve NEVER understood bullying someone or a group of people because they feel a certain way or have different views from me. You just cannot do that.

    Another thing too, you cannot allow yourself to even contemplate s******, no matter how hard a situation may be. S****** is NEVER an option. By killing yourself, you show those who have bullied you that they have the power, and you have to realize that your life is worth way more than that. You also have to realize that you will hurt the ones that love and support you.

  24. Keesha January 5, 2011

    “real music will always truimph the foolishness we listen to.”

    So true!

  25. Royalkev January 5, 2011

    This was truly something inspirational that was done totally in the spirit of helping the gay community. I think this message was sincere and will be effective in showing an everyday struggle that exist and that can also be alleviated. It’s a shame that Gaga(who insist on being the cheerleader for the gay population) has yet to present the public with something this powerful.

  26. tae January 5, 2011

    damn i love it

  27. SparkD January 5, 2011

    I love the message, but I felt the same ostracism coming from a religious family and not fitting in. Outsiders come in every walk of life.

  28. SparkD January 5, 2011

    The feel reminds me of Mariah Carey’s song Outside.

  29. Chile Please! January 5, 2011

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESS! I was watching this earlier on another website….& boy this really touched me & I almost cried. Yes this video took a turn that I didn’t expect but I looked beyond that because the message at the end explained everything. People really need to except gay people hands down…….they are going to be here forever. The other website that this video was posted on the comments were just plain disrespectful & people focused so much on the guys being gay besides the message. Stupid assholes……..that’s the main reason why guy are on the DL because of how they get bashed for who they are. It’s a shame who lesbianism can be accepted in this world but Homosexuality get disparaged, who the f*** are we to judge. I support this video all the way & YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES those 2 bruthas was fine…..I was waiting to see more. LMAO!

    “It’s a shame that Gaga(who insist on being the cheerleader for the gay population) has yet to present the public with something this powerful.”

    @ROYALKEV YES! If Gaga wasn’t just using the gay community as a scapegoat to boost her fame, or reach the peak of her fame. But that’s all she’s really doing. However, Marsha truly shinned light on the gay community, & issues with it.

  33. RosaRubbel January 5, 2011

    Beautiful. This is the most inspirational music video I have seen in a long time! Marsha took R&B to another level with this music video. These people out there need our support.
    S****** isn’t an option in this situation, but the affected people don’t see any other ways out! The problem isn’t only the bullying, it’s the fight with yourself. You have to accept yourself first before you love someone else and this is the HARDEST part of it. Thank you Marsha.

    @ Keesha

    “Now, I will NEVER understand how someone could be attracted to someone of the same gender…”

    It’s a crazy little thing called love, honey 😉

  34. I{HEART}Music January 5, 2011

    I cried watching this! The video literally took you on a journey. When you see the lyrics “I can’t believe that you’re gone” and see her walking through the park hand-in-hand with the man, you think its a typical love song about a man-woman relationship and then to see that it wasnt, I was blown away! I love when an artist can be that bold! Two black men too! Thats powerful stuff Marsha! Love it!!

  35. the kiddz January 5, 2011

    And I find it funny that Trent is throwing shade at Gaga, I presume, when he praised her mess of a video (Alejandro) saying that was for the gay community.

    @ROYAL KEV and @DAVE

    Lady Gaga, has shed lots of light on the GAY COMMUNITY and has standed as an advocate for them. DO your research! Also, Gaga will no doubt touch on many more issues on her up and coming projects “BORN THIS WAY!” . #staytuned

  41. Freddy Teddy January 5, 2011

    @The Kiddz

    Trent said “rather than putting on a leotard or a colorful wig and dancing in circles to a catchy beat”. How could you “presume” that is GaGa? Lots of artists do that including his favourite target Rihanna.

    Stop being a c***! I’m so glad this site is giving Marsha some love! Much better than reading about Beyonce tacky ass every f****** day.

  42. PLAIN & SIMPLE January 5, 2011

    OMG another powerhouse CD coming out this year. I lover her I know that CD is going striaght to the top. Now this is what we need real R&B music to come back full force.

    I agree.

  44. the kiddz January 5, 2011

    @Freddy Teddy

    Maybe my comment went over your head. Let me break it down for you. Who else but Gaga is promoted on this site who “advocates” for the gay community, all while wearing leotards and singing about disco sticks? Last time I checked, neither Rihanna nor Beyonce put one sexual orientation above another in regards to their fans.

  45. Royalkev January 5, 2011

    @ Spunky poop, what exactly have Lady Gaga done to make a statement for the gay and lesbian community. Was it one made in Telephone, when she makes out with the woman in the yard? Was it Bad romance/ Alejandro (where the men lustfully grope each other in the last dance number)? She doesn’t use her art to compliment this passion she supposedly have to speak up for gay rights and have them gain equality. From what I’ve witnessed she’s comes across more as self indulgent and wreckless. I’m not a fan of her work, so if there’s something I’m over looking than enlighten me?

  46. Keesha January 5, 2011

    “@ Keesha

    “Now, I will NEVER understand how someone could be attracted to someone of the same gender…”

    It’s a crazy little thing called love, honey”

    I know I said that I’ll never understand it, because to me, I would have to be gay to understand it. If you get what I’m saying. I think too that everyone should be able to live their life, regardless of whether or not somebody understands why someone or a group of people feel the way that they feel. *shrugs shoulders*

  47. the kiddz January 5, 2011

    @royalkev

    These “monsters” just don’t get it. She’s tricked them into thinking her art is a representation of the gays, and she’s been receiving backlash for that; which is why her new work is entitled born this way.

  48. January 5, 2011

    f*** gaga.
    f*** beyonce.

  50. RosaRubbel January 5, 2011

    Yes, I got your point, but I think to those people it’s just love. They don’t decide if they love someone from the same gender or not, it’s God.

  51. PLAIN & SIMPLE January 5, 2011

    I also love Marsha when she was Floetry it was two of them

  52. Jazlene January 5, 2011

    God bless this woman such a powerful song with an equally powerful message & video. I don’t believe people commit s****** because of their sexuality..I believe people commit s****** from all the bigotry within society…who would’ve thought twenty years later this sh#@ would still be happening…it could be your brother or sister…stop with the homophobia.

  58. delroy January 5, 2011

    I haven’t sat down and watched a video that has made me say wow in year, this is one of the best videos that i have seen in years. I think that christina aguilera’s Beautiful was the last one that made me sit back and think that the people behind the video wanted something more than the usal tosh that’s thrown at the public. This video will be one of the few/handful videos that i will remember in a year to come. As for the whole Marsha Ambrosius only getting mentioned on this site. my oh my this shows how much you visit, as i can recall seeing this lady on this site many of times. and as for the whole Gaga thing, i remember watching a clip on youtube, with gaga talking to a crowd of a couple of hundred talking about gay’s and lesbians having to keep there sexuality quiet because it’s part of the army the rules. Now i never new about this before and i never new that in the states where its suppose to be the land of the free would have something like this in place.

  59. Danielle January 6, 2011

  62. LG3 January 6, 2011

    Love this…. real, emotional R & B without a pop/dance/electronica infusion or a gimmick …I’m glad she’s solo even though I do miss the Floetry days, can’t wait to hear more from this album

  63. Anthony The Great January 6, 2011

  64. Chile Please!! January 6, 2011

    @TC ;D

    I’m sooooooo applauding you on that one. You said everything that I’ve been saying about Beyawnce in a cute summary. People don’t see the fact that Beyawnce makes childish music….nothing about her music is timeless…..maybe her first album will be a classic but the other 2 was a f****** gimmick! Majority of Beyawnce fans are the Queens that live for that OVER THE TOP dragqueen acts she put on…..that’s all! How are you going to be listening to “Upgrade” years from now talking about, “YOOOOOOOO that song was so deep, Beyawnce really taught us that we all need a good Upgrade!” GTFOH!

    This is the real purpose of Music and it’s video form. Have a REAL Message. God song, Even better video. This is a step in the right direction for music and this is going to be even bigger than Marsha.

    Though I am a Christian, I have gay friends. I accept them for who they are, God loves all his Children. He is THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN JUDGE.

    Us Judging others only questions God’s Work. If you don’t agree with someone’s lifestyle don’t bully them or scorn them, let it be. Woryy about your own mess.

  70. Anthony The Great January 6, 2011

    @Chile Please

    I love how people always bring up the songs such as “Upgrade U” and “Video Phone”, but ignore songs such as “Resentment”, “Listen”, “Halo”, Smash Into You, If I were a boy, Hello, Scared of Lonely, Save The HEro etc.

    Just because Beyonce is not making the traditional R&B music would prefer doesn’t mean her music is trash.

    But, how did Beyonce get into this conversation again?

    Wowzers i’ve been blazing this tune Far Away for a good while now..

    The video is DEEP but real.
    The video gives even more meaning to the song and that’s an accomplishment.

    Each to there own. We must not comsume our minds with what doesn’t concern us because its hard enough living life on this Earth as it is.

    DO YOU, BE YOU, STAY BLESSED!!

    Love Marsha’s vocals
    Love Floetry
    The Songstress did a great job.

    (Sidenote: Big up The Floacist (Natalie Stewart) cus, she has some great material also & I hope the Floetry ladies can re-connect on a musical level at some point again!)

  75. ESJAE January 7, 2011

    This video says a-lot about what goes on in our society today. There are so may people who have been ridiculed for being “different” and have hated themselves for it. If you focus on the good in people and spread love we wouldn’t have such hate harbored in our hearts for things that don’t concern us or simply don’t understand.

    This was just simply bliss!!!! I loved it!!! Being that I am a gay man myself it really hit close to home and I was really in tears on the part where the guys beat him up!!! That has never happened to me but I can imagine the pain. It was so amazing to see two masculine guys together cuz the world don’t realize that not all gay men are feminine. Thank you so much Marsha for doing this for us!!!! We not asking people to support the gay lifestyle although that would be great but at least accept that we are here and treat as equals. Gay is not contagious so it won’t hurt to treat us like anyone else.

  77. Pam January 8, 2011

    Marsha raises such an important point about homophobia and its consequences in this video. AMAZING.

    Plus, just found out she’s British…nice to see black British artists making a statement about this too…
