While she may be more successful than the artist you mentioned, she is quite underrated in terms of her musicianship. This is a woman who can go toe to toe with a saxophone and create layers of unique and compelling vocal arrangements. Well said. She’s popular, but not really reknowned for her talent, or at least not as much as she should be. People who are ignorant of her talent like to place her in the same class as untalented pop stars because she is a pop star herself. Out of the whole ad, which was really nice by the way, she was the only one whom by fact is african american. strikes me as kind of odd. She really set a new standard of beauty for black women. She broke several records. She’s even an amazing singer, dancer and performer! DAMN!

I think a couple of people took my comment the wrong way. Let me explain myself. Yes, I said that Beyonce reminds me of Rihanna, in the fact that they are both better models than they are singers, but that’s not saying that Beyonce has no talent in music whatsoever. I actually thought that she was a better singer when she was in Destiny’s Child, because to me she sound better in a group, but she can sing. It is Rihanna who I think cannot sing. And yes, Chris Brown is a better dancer than he is singer, but he can still sing.

What has Gaga accomplished in two years that Beyoncé hasn’t? Only people who know jack s*** about Bey’s career say that, which is another clue that you are NOT a fan. You know Destiny’s Child, the group that she used to be a part of since she was a child and was around from ’97-’05? They’re one of the most successful groups of all time. They’ve sold well over 40 million records worldwide, and that is excluding solo projects from any of the former band members. Billboard Magazine named them as one of the greatest musical trios of all time. They were also in the top ten of Billboard’s best artists of the past DECADE, and I don’t see Gaga in that top ten, which she should be for someone who’s apparently done everything Beyoncé has in a shorter amount of time, as you claim. She’s been co-signed by serious artists who normally wouldn’t give a s*** about pop stars.
Beyoncé doesn’t know the word flop, because it hasn’t yet occurred to her, which is pretty amazing for someone who’s been putting out music for nearly 14 years now. Yes, what Gaga has accomplished is indeed mind-blowing, and she is very talented and she does deserve her props for that. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and call her an icon when she’s ONLY been out for two years. It’s not unheard of for artists to enjoy mass success at the beginning of their career, only to see hype die down and for the hotness of their career to stop *cough* Brandy, Monica, Ashanti *cough*. No one is an icon after only two f****** years in the game, time will dictate hat. Again, it is people like you that will make it harder for Gaga to top herself, because you’re all putting her on some pedestal that she has not yet proven herself to be deserving of. And I’m a Gaga fan saying this.
If Beyoncé isn’t an icon now, then she most definitely WILL BE. How many artists who’ve been in the game as long as she has can boast of the success that she has? Few.

This is how you critique an entertainer: Beyonce is not a strong ballader (I think its her tone that makes me feel that way). The only Ballads she sound phenomenal on are Listen, Resentment, That’s Why Your Beautiful and Dangerously in Love. She sounds good at whatever she sings, but singing ballads live is not her strong point. But to say that she is an average singer is wrong because she is above avaerage She needs to realize that she is a funk soul diva and should stick to singing those type of songs more. That’s where her voice really soars.
I saw this another Bey thread and I just wanted to give you, your due. Just to give my opinion on it, btw…her tone don’t QUITE fit ballads, especially her phrasing(I saw someone say that she tends to be too “staccato”) but she has learned the art of “crooning” and she uses her dynamics very well to emote that make up for whatever her tone lacks. But yeah, even now, Bey is a better uptempo vocalist than Balladeer though it is close actually depending on the song. Another problem is that people think that ballads is the ONLY WAY that a vocalist can showcase them being a great vocalist.
To me, I feel that every GREAT VOCALIST should be able to sing in any tempo. They might have their own sound, or music theory but whenever a song calls for something out of their comfort zone tempo wise, they should be able to sing it. For example, we all know that Luther was a ballad-heavy artist, but he could sing uptempos well also. He even used to sing jingles to make money before he got his big break. So that’s the stereotype for today’s industry. And then when you have 50-11 entertainers sounding like robots especially on uptempos to sound better than they are, it don’t help the perception.
