Cher Lloyd Debuts Video Diary

Hot off the heels of her stint on the X-Factor, Cher Lloyd was whisked off to the US to begin work on her debut album. So as to keep her ‘fans’ updated with her Stateside peradventures, the singer today launched her first video diary.

Check out the clip below, in which the 17 year old recounts working with top producers and a Platinum selling rapper…

Again; we’ll wait to see what she serves up before casting judgement.

I co-sign with Jade and the poster with the long name… Jessie J , Joss Stone, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Katy B etc are all talented and I like their music so I’m not going to hate on them, representing UK talent BUT the only prominent black female artist is probably Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis ( yeah she’s mixed whatever) and before that… Jamelia I guess. Sabrina Washington tried and flopped and Beverley Knight is still a respected musician though you don’t see her in the charts and I don’t know what’s going on with Estelle. The thing is they’re there. The VV Browns, Rox, Corrine Bailey Rae, Laura Izibor, even the Gamus are there if you look hard enough but it seems a lot harder for them to get to mainstream success unless through X factor or some rapper ala Estelle ( even though she has had better songs). If Alexandra Burke was singing Plan B and Adele’s music, I’d be a happy girl because her voice is too rich for ‘Start Withouth you’ etc but I think SyCo are scared of marketing a black artist to their musical roots because there are many black females who can ‘sang’ and so it’s nothing new or ‘fresh’. Whereas when a white artist does rap or sing the blues just as well as a black artist ( like Plan B.. it’s different , people aren’t used to it and go ‘damn that white boy/girl can sang or rap’ or whatever.

    Just an observation I guess
As for Cher, I’ll stick with Jessie J. Go for your dream and all but I won’t be buying her stuff.

damn didn’t realise how long my comment/essay was. Woops. Excuse the typos.

I agree with everyone. I wish Americans artist would give more shine to black Uk artist that are trying to crossover into the American market. Chris Brown is the only American I know as of right now that has done so. (rapper, Chipmunk). I love Alexandra Burke, Estelle, Leona Lewis and handfulls of other UK artist and I pray that more American artist would embrace them….

SN: I wonder what a duet would sound between Alexandra Burke and Chris Brown? Or a female anthem with Alexandra and Beyonce? 🙂

  12. Scott February 4, 2011

Would never want Alexandra doing a song with Chris Brown just no.There are alot of successful UK black artists Tinnie Tempah, Roll Depp, Chipmink, Tinchy Stryder, Alexandra Burke, JLS, Alesha Dixon, Taio Cruz..Cher is truly rubbish though but record companies in the UK would rather market and build a white singer doing black styles of music than a black singer. The UK needs its own Motown because the talent is there but it is not being pushed and marketed right. Keshia White, Rox, VV Brown, Cherri V, Kano, Bashy are all amazing artists yet are not being handled right

How can you act black? have i missed something!!!! Thats a load of bull s***!! Black is the colour of someones skin.. not how someone acts.. People need to loook at themselves, before speaking such crap!!
Yeah, the music is deemed to be something that black singers usually sing.. but you heard of eminem? Yeah.
    fail

  14. KaeLaSoul February 4, 2011

What is ‘acting black’? You all sound so ignorant.

  15. Scott February 4, 2011

It is typical of some people to be in denial about these things.White people have always tried to take black music, way of dressing and slang and put a white face on it.Cher has tried to project an urban black image wearing baggy hip hop clothes and speaking in black slang. She is so talentless it is unreal as both a wack rapper and singer it is embarrassing just how talented and vocally perfect Leona and Alexandra had to be. Cher is hopeless and a black girl who sang so badly would never have got to the stage Cher has.

  16. X_POSED99 February 4, 2011

B**** sucks!! Do all the lame diaries she wants. No one cares or wants to buy this s***. And if u do ur just falling for the Cowell marketing machine. Next.

Not one postive comment for this girl. Most of the comments involve her colour. Its quite distrusting. I think its best shes not blogged on here again.. people seem to have a problem with her colour.. stay mad people.

  18. Taylor swifts number 1 fan February 4, 2011

    *disgusting

  19. Scott February 4, 2011

No one has a problem with her colour it is her total lack of talent. It is obvious a black girl who is as poor a rapper and singer would not be in Chers position.Jessie J has talent, Katy B, Adele and they perform rnb, dubstep and soul but Cher is all hype.I agree she should not be featured on these blogs because she is a novelty act like Jedward.

  20. Taylor swifts number 1 fan February 4, 2011

Yeah, i suppose she isnt the most talented girl, i’ll agree, and being white has made her more appealing to the record label, but saying white people have always tried to take black music..I dont quite understand that. Should colour be a barrier to what music you can sing? I dont think so.

  22. coolhwip February 5, 2011

@ Taylor Swift’s number one fan
Don’t get it twisted and think that I mean that artists should stay in their race lane and do only certain genres. Of course not. I am a big fan of the artists I mentioned in the earlier post and their race has nothing to do with it. Music has no boundaries, if it’s good it’s good.
BUT You said so yourself.. ‘I suppose she isn’t that talented’.. so why is she being propelled so easily to the forefront when there are enough chicks who can outsing and outrap and outdance her any day of the week. The same with Cheryl Cole. She may have a catchy song with catchy beats, and killer production and I could be humming along but I won’t be purchasing her album for £9.99 at HMV anytime soon or seeing her in concert because it’s her as an artist I can’t get with. I can roll with Jessie J or Yasmin or Katy B or Adele or Amy Winehouse just like Laura Izibor or Tinie Tempah why? because they do what they do well and they grafted. I can’t stand Eminem as a person but I am not going to deny his delivery and flow is immense and he’s one of the greatest rappers ever… just because of his colour so don’t come with that racist mess.
I’Il respect her so far that she had a dream and ran with the opportunity that was there, why wouldn’t you, but it just seems a little unfair. I don’t wish anything untoward to her but I won’t be legally buying her stuff.

    @coolhwip
I wasnt saying anything agaist what you was saying in your comment, it was in reply to scotts 8:45 comment.
I know, shes not more talented then 1000’s of other girls out there, but the reason shes been propelled so easily to the forefront is largly due to the fact shes been on xfactor.. the biggest show in the uk. Shes already well known, everyone knows of the girl, a lot of people dont like her, but the label wont need to use money to promote her. The fact shes white girl, doing hip hop music, will set her apart from the crowed, so i agree with you on that point. she doesnt have to be great, the fact shes white and doing hip hop is enough to get signed, if she was black she wouldnt be getting the attention she is now, because theres loads of black artists doing this kind of music… and only a few white people

  24. blonds February 5, 2011

This s*** makes me mad, theres girls out there grinding for years to get their music heard, then crack b**** comes along and gets easy limelight? Nah, it aint fair.

  25. coolhwip February 5, 2011

    @blonds
I hear you about the unfairness
It’s a simple case of don’t hate the player, hate the game really. It’s sad.

This is a very good point that you bring up. It’s a shame, isn’t it?

  27. IKNOWTHETRUTH February 5, 2011

I DON’T KNOW WHAT EVERYONE HATES THIS GIRL SO MUCH FOR. I’VE SEEN HER VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE AND PERFORMANCES ON X-FACT BECAUSE I’M FROM THE US. IS SHE THE MOST VOCALLY TALENTED GIRL? NO, BUT SHE IS A DECENT SINGER/RAPPER. SHE’S CUTE AND APPEALING AND YOUNG SO OF COURSE THAT’S A HELPER WHEN YOU’RE TRYING TO GET SIGNED. THE WHITE SKIN AND BRIGHT RED HAIR IS ALSO A PLUS BUT HEY EVERY WHITE GIRL THAT GETS SIGNED ISN’T ALWAYS A HIT. DO I PREFER JESSIE J OVER HER? YES BUT THEY’RE TWO DIFFERENT TYPE OF ARTISTS. SO IS AMY WINEHOUSE, ADELE, AND JOSS STONE. DON’T COMPARE HER TO THEM. SHE’S NOT A SONGSTRESS. I DO BELIEVE THAT SHE’S BETTER THAN RIHANNA AND JAY-Z WILL BE A BIG HELP TO HER BUT HE SHOULDN’T TURN HER INTO WHAT SHE’S BECOME. NEVER WAS AN ARTISTS AND NOW SHE’S A TRUE JOKE AND HAS PROVED IT WITH THE LIVE PERFORMANCES AND THAT S***** “S&M” VIDEO. RIHANNA WAS THE SAME AGE AS SHE IS NOW WHEN SHE FIRST CAME OUT. GIVE HER A CHANCE, AFTER ALL, WE GAVE RIHANNA ONE. LET’S LEAVE THE COLOR OUT OF THIS AND GO STRAIGHT TO THE TALENT. JOJO ISN’T A STAR AND DIDN’T BECOME ONE AT 13 BECAUSE OF HER COLOR, SHE BECAME ONE BECAUSE OF HER TALENT. CHER LLOYD HAS A LITTLE BIT AND WITH THE RIGHT FOCUS, YOU KNOW ACTUALLY ON HER VOCALS INSTEAD OF CAMERAS, IT COULD GROW. DON’T F*** THIS UP LIKE YOU DID RIHANNA JAY-Z. RIHANNA WAS SIGNED BECAUSE SHE LOOKS LIKE A MODEL, PERIOD. SHE’S A PUPPET. I LIKE HER MUSIC BUT I CAN’T DEAL WITH HER LACK OF TALENT.

  28. IKNOWTHETRUTH February 5, 2011

DO YOU GUYS @ TGJ HATE HER BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T GRANT YOU AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW OR SOMETHING? GOSH, SHE’S 17, AT LEAST WAIT FOR HER TO REACH 18 BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR GLOVES OUT AND BASH HER. LET THE GIRL RELEASE AN ALBUM AND HIT THE STAGE FIRST. DAMN.

  29. NE-YO*STAN February 6, 2011

She looks like my French teacher… except younger and with fake hair color. Hit me up when her body fills out (which might be never considering her age).
