Pop icon Janet Jackson has today released the first European dates for her ‘Number Ones; Up, Close, & Personal – World Tour’.

According to a press release on the singer’s official website, the first European dates on the trek are:
PARIS
June 26th, 27th, 28th
Venue: Olympia
LONDON
June 30th, July 2nd, July 3rd
Venue: Royal Albert Hall
MONTE CARLO

Venue: Sporting Club
First billed as a 35-city world tour, demand has exceeded expectation, with the trek now on course to play over 43 shows (and counting). Speaking on her European fans, Janet said:
“I have been spending a lot of time in Europe lately. Everyone has been so kind to me. I can’t wait to get on stage and show my love for all my fans that have supported me all of these years”

She’s also trying to do something different this time, she’s said that this tour won’t be about special effects or huge arena’s, but a more up-close-and-personal type of thing. I’m not sure if it’s a star power thing, or she’s just trying to do something different. She’s done arenas for over 20 years now, and those smaller venues are selling out so fast (10 minuets in LA) that she’s had to add extra dates.

I can see that. The last tour she had, she had to cancel a few dates because of low ticket sales (back in 2008). She may have wanted to ensure this time around her tickets would sell out, and sell out quickly, to avoid embarrassment. Similar to Mariah’s situation. I do find it telling that she has the smaller venues selling out so quickly, though. The last time she performed as the Essence festival, she broke attendance records, and even had people put on a waiting list. I can’t put my finger on if there is still a huge demand for Janet, a demand that would make her feel comfortable booking arenas. I think Madonna’s had more recent hits then Janet? Maybe that makes a difference. Either way, I think she should be doing arenas too, i adore her.
We may want her to be in stadiums, but she’s business woman. A sold out show with 4,000 people for two or 3 nights looks alot better than a 15,000 stadium with 9,000 in attendance. I’m glad she’s back on the road, and I can’t wait to see her.

Ok… Being someone from the industry let me school ALL of the haters.. Firstly… Tell me someone who doesn’t perform with what is called a filler track? NO ONE! Taylor swift included.. Where do you think the BG vocals come from? DUH! Let’s be for real and use COMMON sense people.. Secondly.. When promoting and booking a tour it’s done AT least 9 months in advance. So if someone else has a contract with the O2 arena then how the hell would she be able to get it!?! She wouldn’t. Contracts don’t work like that. You can’t cancel a show because you believe another show would profit your venue more. That’s bad business and would bring a bad name to the venue and company controlling the venue.. Thirdly.. How many of you hater’s actually know the amount of money that it takes to put on a show like janet has done in the past years? Waiting for the hands to go up….. Exactly none of you.. Micahel an Janet jackson still hold the records for being the few artist that fund ALMOST MORE THAN HALF of the starting cost of their tours.. That’s right. So if the starting cost is over 100million she is fronting more than half of that money. As well as Michael and Janet are still he only artist that use 3 stages when touring. So if she was hurting then she wouldn’t be ADDING Dates for the tour… No matter what the demand was because she wouldn’t be able to do it. Again that would be bad business..
