New Song: Britney Spears – ‘How I Roll’ (Snippet)

Published: Thursday 24th Feb 2011 by Sam

As Britney Spears readies herself for the promotional run which will accompany the release of her forthcoming ‘Femme Fatal’ LP, the project’s executive producer, Dr Luke, has teased fans with yet another snippet from the album. This time it’ the Bloodshy & Avant produced ‘How I Roll’.

Take a listen after the jump…

Not bad.

Although this in conjunction with ‘Hold It Against Me’ make one thing vividly clear. Ms. Spears will no doubt be dusting off that magic headset come time to perform, as there is next to no chance of her singing these good (yet wildly overproduced) songs live. At all.

A shame as in the era of the Beyonce‘s, GaGa‘s, and even the Rihanna‘s, live singing (regardless of how good or bad) is a must for any genuine claim to being ‘at the top’. Can Britney actually make any such claim when even her trademark dancing is but a shadow of her glory days? If not, (which sadly seems to be the case), she then becomes a studio star and little else.

Nonetheless, we’ll be watching how this all unfolds.

  4. Nana Yaw February 24, 2011

Ugh the voice is really treated.

  5. Hlove February 24, 2011

    I LOVE IT

  6. Stoney-Brie February 24, 2011

ok she needs to stop all this autotune mess..

  7. Mike February 24, 2011

    Yeah youre so right Sam.

EVEN RIHANNA is singing live without fear.

  8. Jonny Barrett February 24, 2011

I do like the song to be honest, as I’m a huge fan, it’s most certainly not as overproduced sounding as previous tracks. And even though your article is a little upsetting, the points you make are true and fare. I’m just hoping that she’s gonna prove us all wrong and blow us away with an amazing promotional tour for the album release. But being honest I’ve been hoping that for past five years. Maybe we just need to accept the fact that the old Britney is gone for good. 🙁

  9. jj February 24, 2011

ofcourse rihanna will sing live on stage what do u expect her to do on stage? standing there and lip synching? she cant dance thats why she sings live even she sound horrible live the same with katy perry!

  10. jj February 24, 2011

and to all britney fans dont forget what happened to britney during 2007 that is why she is very different now. is not that britney just changed without any reasons!
if only britney didnt have meltdown she will still be the old energetic britney spears we love

  11. Roab February 24, 2011

I agree Britney is a beast in the studio and when it comes to producing a product but an entertainer she is not. But at the same time, she doesn’t give a Fk anymore…she has a mega-following. She could put out crap and its going to go 2x platinum and her arrchives will make a tour alone. She is making tons of $$$ on perfume, deals, etc. Its so blah to me…its like a DJs album…little vocals and over produced. She’s killed dubstep for me forever! Just go back to sleep Britney.

  12. jj February 24, 2011

@roab i think britney deserved all of the success! if paris, heidi, the kardashians, jersey shores cast can make lots of money. then britney spears is much deserved all of that. britney worked her ass off since she was a baby!

  13. Jonny Barrett February 24, 2011

The breakdown didn’t effect her body….having two kids and sustaining and knee injury just before she took her break has slowed her down. I just don’t think she cares like she use to, maybe she realised that there’s more important things in life. And who know’s maybe one day, with lots of yoga and the passion she use to have, we may see the britney we once knew. I mean look at madonna for crying out loud., she’s like 50+ and she knocks spot of the britney of today as far as dancing and singing live is concerned.

  14. gaygoyle February 24, 2011

    This snippet is f***** awesome!
    Stay pressed haters.
After HIAM & 3 teasers,…This will be The Best POP album in next 5 years!
    Also a trend setter.

  15. Dan February 24, 2011

    The sound is fresh!
That’s why most producer praise Britney…
She uses producers,..but she’s the one who pick which song gonna make into final cut!…
William Orbit & Jessie.J songs turned down by Britney,…can’t wait for Femme Fatale.
After 3 teasers,..i’m gonna love the album!

  16. jj February 24, 2011

@jonny there is no need to be proud of madonna TODAYS because she dance and sings horrible LIVE and she looks like an OLD STRIPPER. Madonna is much much better when she was young. still love Madonna though

  17. That FLOP Juice February 24, 2011

    BORING.

Fresh??? Listen to any Euro Pop/Dance songs from the previous years.

    Fresh. LMAO.

  18. MissKellyHUNNI February 24, 2011

I don’t like how they’re promoting this project…too many snippets..not enough live interviews/appearances/performances. You can only tease and hold peoples interest so long before you have to deliver something!…The album comes out in less than a month and Britney is nowhere to be found!!!!

  19. DION-ISH February 24, 2011

I Love HIAM soooooooo Damn much, so you can only imagine how anxious i am to here the rest of the album….nonetheless i WOULD like to see promotion of HIAM fukin first and then you can release all the snippets you damn well please, She better not go Blackout on us!

    *Resumes play button on HIAM*

  20. the kiddz February 24, 2011

    @Dion-Ish

I hate how they are handling her promotion. Didn’t they promise MASSIVE promo, but she’s yet to perform HIAM or even give an interview? Ughhhh! This era isn’t looking too promising.

  21. Neickha February 24, 2011

nooooo. I wasn’t expecting it to end that soon.I know its a snippet but dang at least a minute lol I really like this.

  22. DION-ISH February 24, 2011

    @THE KIDDZ

I Knowwwww Its Ridiculous! …Like what is she doing??? i honestly believe speculation that this may be her last album because it seems shes not into being a “pop” star anymore….though i disagree and what her to continue on.

Well See though, Maybe there waiting til the release date gets closer.

  23. SLick February 24, 2011

I pray her album doesnt leak…, all these snippets.

  26. AFrenchReader February 24, 2011

It’s Femme fatale and not femme fatal.

  27. Tara February 24, 2011

I like it…..ill be suppprting brit brit and buying her album…ill be downloading as well….britneys been thru alot amd unlike bleachy aka beyonce she doesnt try to portray a perfect life and she has real experiences and shows shes human!! And britney isnt a media w**** who thinks her fans and the genral public is as stupid as she is!!

  28. blackcanary February 24, 2011

honestly i don’t think they’ll promote hold it against me anymore. i think they’ll release the second single 1-2 weeks before the album and start promoting. what sense does it make to promote a song that’s 6 weeks old!?

  29. Chris February 25, 2011

I’m a Britney fan honestly, but I’m not here to say how I like the snippet or not, I just wanted to point out how this article was written. I like how the words and facts are actually put in a way where there’s no conclusion made but just an overview of what might happen. Some articles on sites would say “That’s going to be the best pop album” or “too much auto-tune”, but this one stays in the neutral field. I really like reading it. Great article 😉

  30. JER February 25, 2011

Britney’s camp is milking this digital age with everything they got. This viral onslaught is probably the cheapest successful promotional campaign i can think of. #1 single and what have they done?…. made a video? Tweeted about it. No performances or appearences. I’m cracking up.

  31. Yellow Gorillah February 25, 2011

I’m liking the sound that she is going for this new album
And I’m so excited to her the album as a whole.

But I’m sorry I will need britney to do some promotion
I know she doesn’t because the b**** is a POP ICON
But a little promotion will help her boost her sales and
as a fan I want to see her perform Lipsync or not.

I love HIAM and I know she has more hit’s under her belt.

  32. Kim February 25, 2011

Am a Britney fan but all the music ive been hearing from this album and since her breakdown is awful they just sound the same and just too much auto-tune, I think she needs to just forget about being a pop star shes still very successful but its obvious that shes not into this anymore and just wants to live a quiet life with her family, I remember when she used to put a lot of effort into her work and make sure it was the best but she just doesnt care anymore and just releases rubbish because she knows the fans will buy anything. Am not trying to be nasty or mean as I think shes a very nice person but its the truth

  33. DION-ISH February 25, 2011

    ^^^

I Dont Think shes trying to release “Rubbish” persay just because fans will buy it.

HIAM is one of the BEST Pop Records of the Year IMO and we aint even halfway in….So i think she put effort into it, I just dont think shes into the media side of everything, but shell always love us the fans and want to please us.

  34. tween February 25, 2011

I think it’s going to be a very good album but how can she sing those titles in live ???

  35. February 25, 2011

I like the beat, but the song is okay.

  36. KeepIt100 February 25, 2011

    I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!!!!!
I’ll be waiting for the full version…I hope I won’t be disappointed..

  37. NE-YO*STAN February 25, 2011

I specifically requested a Danja joint from Dr. “I’ve Already Made Up My Mind But Will Ask a Question I Don’t Want Input On” Luke.

With that said, what’s the point of listening to any more Britney tracks until I get what I want? Danja or Neptunes. Everything else can burn.

  38. ilias February 25, 2011

i love this! it reminds me of Robyn! I am very excited for Femme Fatale! 🙂

  39. irene46 February 25, 2011

sounds much better than that dry dragging hiam with those outrageously lame lyrics!

  40. Guerschom February 25, 2011

I like the song but the promotions were stupid

  41. VFB February 26, 2011

    Ummmm Britney please stop honey.

  42. Dannnn1990 February 28, 2011

U guys are the reason she isn’t “what she was”
try shutting up and keep ur unwanted opinions in a little
box at the back of ur head where they won’t come out and embarras u any more.
