From The Vault: Danity Kane’s Debut Concert

Before the group eventually succumbed to the Bad Boy curse of Diddy’s mismanagement, Danity Kane was primed to fill the void in Pop music created after the departure of Destiny’s Child. To highlight the potential of these women, this week’s From The Vault features their 1st televised concert in 2006 where they performed songs from their platinum-certified self-titled debut album.

Check out the 2nd half of the show below:

Undoubtedly, Danity Kane was one of the most impressive new acts to emerge in the last decade. From Dawn’s androgynous voice to D. Woods’ street swag and Aundrea’s stunning vocal range, this group had the potential to access both Urban and Pop markets like no other band before them.

Sadly, like all other acts associated with Diddy (with the exception of Cassie who must have other secret ‘talents’), it was only a matter of time before they slipped into oblivion. Luckily, we have YouTube to help us remember what they once were and could have been.

Thoughts?

    Best vocals in order:
Aundrea (She wakes up belting G5′s all up in thru)
Dawn (Her control shits on everyone else, her runs are soulful and she just KNOWS how to use her voice; I don’t enjoy it solo tho..its not a “pretty” voice)
    DWoods (Eh)
Shannon (She is actually the voice you hear on the chorus of Show Stopper “We in the car…”, she has a cute Britney type voice in the group but she can actually belt really well! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOG51y9qGg0 watch her SLAY!)
Aubrey (No1 does breathy/s*** like Aub)

    Best Dancer:
Shannon (YES Shannon, she goes IN!)
Dawn (has that fluidity that reminds you of Beyonce)
DWoods (She can just MOVE lol and break it down)
Aubrey (White girl that just “can dance”, nothing special and not trained like Shannon)
Aundrea (She struggled the most but did her thing)

Also, say what you will about Aubrey but the girl has crazy charisma – my eyes are always drawn to her on the stage.

They were great and all of them could sing and dance. With the right sound they could have been huge but Diddy does not want long career artist.

    @Phil
Better than DC?? You are crazy. There will never be another female band like that.
They are our generations En Vougue. Just my opinion.

P.S. My first bought CD was DC Survivor my second was DC Destiny Fulfilled and my third the Greatest Hits.

Destiny Fulfilled is a classic with timeless songs.

Dawn, Drea and Shannon for best vocals as usual. They also get best dancing too but you can throw Aubrey in there for the mix.

    Miss them a lot man.

I CAN CALL MYSELF A DK FAN TO THE BONE. I LOVE THEM. ALL OF THEM TOGETHER. IT FITS, IT’S PERFECT. RICHGIRL COULD BE NEXT BUT JIVE RECORDS ALWAYS f**** OVER THEIR URBAN ACTS AND THEIR MAIN FOCUS HAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE, BRITNEY SPEARS. I JUST THINK OF WHAT A WASTE ALL OF THIS WAS. I LOVED BOTH OF THEIR ALBUMS AND THEIR THIRD COULD HAVE BEEN JUST AS STELLAR. TWO PLATINUM #1 ALBUMS AND PUFF AS ALWAYS WILL FIND A WAY TO f*** IT UP. YOU TORE APART DANITY KANE FOR DIDDY-DIRTY MONEY? YOUR OWN SELFISH REASONS AND THEY HAVEN’T EVEN SOLD ANY RECORDS. IMAGINE IF DANITY KANE WOULD HAVE BEEN APART OF THE MOVE TO INTERSCOPE AND THE PROMO THEY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN BECAUSE NOW PCD IS GONE TOO. WHAT A SHAME. NOW THEY ALL HAVE NO CAREERS. I’M WAITING TO SEE WHAT THEY ALL DO NOW. I WANT THEM BACK. UGH THE LAST REAL TALENTED GIRL GIRL, DANITY KANE. DK FOREVER!

THIS BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES. 2006 AND 2007 WERE REALLY GOOD YEARS IN MUSIC AS WELL AS 2005 AND 2008. 2009 WAS OKAY AND SINCE THEN……WISH WASHY. HOPEFULL THIS YEAR WILL CHANGE THAT. DK WAS AND COULD STILL HAVE BEEN APART OF THAT.

“RIGHT NOW” AND “HOLD ME DOWN” AND “STAY WITH ME” SHOULD HAVE BEEN SINGLES FROM THE FIRST ALBUM.

“SUCKA FOR LOVE”, “LIGHTS OUT”, “POETRY”, “IS ANYBODY LISTENING?” SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED FROM THE SECOND ALBUM. TO HELL WITH BAD BOY.

I didn’t really care for this group, but I liked watching their show and seeing them make it. I just knew they wouldn’t last though because Diddy is an evil person who can’t seem to manage and promote his artists right. I’m surprised no one is commenting on Trent’s comment about Cassie; he’s right. The real reason why DK stopped getting promoted and releasing material for months is because everyone on the internet was making fun of Cassie’s dumb and untalented ass and Diddy felt the need to defend his HO and do some more marketing for her. How effed up is that? Then, like five months later, they finally had a second single released and that flopped because of no promotion! “Bad Girl” had the generic “naughty” lyrics, but the beat was hot and their voices sounded great! I think the best singer was Aundrea. Everyone else just sounded okay. The best dancers were Shannon and D Woods. Aubrey was just the s*** of the group, but at least she didn’t f*** Diddy to get to the top. She couldn’t sing, just carry a tune. She relied on a s***, breathy, heavy tone to get by on the songs. I never liked Dawn’s tone, but now-a-days, she sounds good on songs.

Shannon surprised everyone with her vocals, Audrey is very talented…what a surprise, Dawn is nothing special, but her hard work plays off, Aundrea lays the notes down, D.wood needs to grow -up…poor child. I love them all and wish them the best, but can’t wait until Audrey show.

Damn!!!!!!!!!!! I miss them so much. Danity Kane was my group like for real. I loved them all : Aubrey, D.Woods, Shannon, Dawn, and Aundrea. They had so much potenial to be huge. This is the time for them to shine and yet they were never properly handle right. It don’t make sense why Diddy would get rid of DK who was the biggest act on Bad Boy besides Diddy. They had 2 #1 platinum albums. I really don’t understand why they only produced 2 single for each albums. Both of their albums were great and yet nothing. Its really shady how Dawn and Diddy threw away that group and talent away just for their own selfish careers which havent been up to par with Danity Kane achievments. I can’t wait for Aubrey’s solo projects to come out this year tho :)
