Album Review: Chris Brown – ‘F.A.M.E’

Fame. It is earned by people for either remarkable achievement or scandalous behaviour. However, for Chris Brown it occurs as a result of both.

Whether being praised for his brilliant live performances or scolded for his notorious actions, Brown has been the focus of media attention since his debut. However, the entertainer has managed to channel these pressures into a body of work that may very well be his best album to date.

Aptly entitled ‘F.A.M.E’, the 13-track LP demonstrates the versatility of an artist who, regardless of the tabloid headlines, has both the talent and passion to become a lasting figure in the music industry.

Experimenting with an array of sounds, Brown gives listeners the opportunity to hear the full extent of his artistry on ‘F.A.M.E’. On songs such as the club-thumping Pop  single, ‘Yeah 3x’, and its infectious followup, ‘Beautiful People (Ft. Benny Benassi)’, he ventures further into the genre of Dance/Pop; a seemingly natural progression for a performer who scored a massive hit with ‘Forever’ from his ‘Exclusive’ album in 2008.

Yet, unlike most of his peers, Brown has not abandoned his Urban roots in favour of finding success on the Pop bandwagon. Instead, he provides a healthy mix of material that features several Hip-Hop and R&B tracks, most of which he co-wrote himself.

Brown flexes his rap skills alongside Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne on ‘Look At Me Now’ and while he is certainly outshone by his more experienced guests, his delivery over the Diplo-produced beat is quite impressive. Thankfully, however, Brown keeps the focus on singing for the rest of the album, hopefully giving his rhymes a break until his next mixtape.

Those hoping to hear the capabilities of Brown’s voice would enjoy songs such as ‘Up To You’, ‘No BS (Ft. Kevin McCall)’ and ‘Should’ve Kissed You’. Unfortunately, on what is possibly Brown’s best vocal showing to date, ‘All Back’ is unpleasantly diluted with studio effects that shroud his voice behind distracting distortions.

Indeed, most of the additions to this album actually weaken it instead of helping Brown’s cause, a point that also applies to his collaborators. Justin Bieber’s flat, emotionless and blatantly annoying attempts at singing almost ruin the drum-driven ‘Next To You’ which was brilliantly produced by The Messengers.

On the unexpected hit ‘Deuces’ Kevin McCall does his best impersonation of Drake but the result is as interesting as one of the songs on Lil Kim’s ‘Black Friday’. Even Ludacris sounds awkward and out of place on ‘Wet The Bed’; a far cry from the brilliance of his classic hit ‘Splash Waterfalls’. Both records truly sound as though Brown is carrying his guests across the finish line and could have only benefited with the omission of their verses.

Other stumbles on the album include the ill advised Michael Jackson sample on ‘She Ain’t You’ as well as the confusing ‘Say It With Me’ which was clearly over-produced.

Still, regardless of a few missteps, Brown delivered a solid album with ‘F.A.M.E’. As he continues to find himself as a songwriter and diversify his audience, Brown proves his true dynamism as an artist.

Once consumers manage to look pass the media propaganda, he could very well enjoy similar success to Usher’s Grammy Award-winning ‘Raymond vs Raymond’ LP. Fans may be his everything as the ‘F.A.M.E’ acronym suggests but a platinum plaque and Grammy gold would certainly be an enjoyable bonus.

That Grape Juice Rating: 4/5 Stars

This album and this guy can´t get a 4/5 by any means! Trent you seem to like his body too much. You should have given 3/5 or something like that. 4 means great and 5 perfection, so NO
Chris Brown has vocal abilities deserving of being mentioned?????????? His voice is like Beiber´s only more mature! I´ll give to him he is better than Rihanna and that he can dance his ass off, but that´s about it. His music is not great by any means

@JOHNVIDAL I AGREE, HE DOESN’T HAVE AN AMAZING VOICE BUT HIS VOICE IS BETTER THAN JUSTIN BIEBER AND RIHANNA. JUSTIN BIEBER AND RIHANNA ARE FAMOUS FOR THE LOOK AND IMAGE, CHRIS IS FAMOUS FOR THE DANCE AND MICHAEL JACKSON # 2 QUALITY ABOUT HIM. “ALL BACK” WAS GREAT BUT TOO AUTO TUNED AS WITH SOME OTHER SONGS ON THE ALBUM AND “SHE AIN’T YOU”, “UP 2 YOU”, AND “LOOK AT ME NOW” ARE THE BEST TRACKS OFF OF THE ALBUM. “OH MY LOVE” IS PRETTY GOOD TOO. I LOVE SEVEN FROM RICHGIRL BEING ON THE ALBUM WITH BACKGROUND VOCALS AND AS A CO WRITER. IT’S A DECENT ALBUM. HE JUST NEEDS TO GET HIS PERSONAL LIFE IN ORDER.

i agree wit this review except one thing…..she aint you is a BANGER, but i do agree that ‘Say It Wit Me Now’ is my least fave song on that album. and to @proud ummmm her album went platinum MONTHS after its release and the songwriters for Only Girl won that grammy….NOT RIHANNA…..sorry boo u lost that one. hahahahahaha get it together….FAME IS A HOT ALBUM…HIS BEST YET!! cant wait to see how he tops it….and his tour is gonna SHUT THE WORLD DOOOOOWWNNNN!!!!

he looks like Joe Jackson on his album cover….

well… I guess they have very simular personalities

  25. tones March 23, 2011

I’ll give it 4/5 stars as well, it’s by far his best album, but he still has a long way to go. I want him to release an album like Confessions, FutureSex/LoveSounds or even Thriller to really show his true talent as a vocalist and writer. My faves are Yeah 3x, Beautiful People, All Back, Up 2 You, Next to You, Wet the Bed, Should’ve Kissed You and Beg for It. I think overall, F.A.M.E. will sell around 1.5 million in the U.S. and around 3 million WW. I do know he’ll recieve Grammy noms in 2012 for Best R&B Contemporary Album, Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for either Should’ve Kissed You or Up 2 You, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Look at Me Now, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Best Dance Recording for Yeah 3x and maybe Best Pop Vocal Collaboration for Next to You.

  26. Kisses March 23, 2011

If you hate Chris, thats cool. But dont come her trying to act neutral about your opinion towards the review. If this was your favs album being reviewed you wouldnt sit here trying to dissect on how biased it is…some of you are so full of s***..

  27. royalkev March 23, 2011

This was a fair review and it was all well said! I have to agree that the guest on FAME don’t do much for the album and that Breezy does most of the work to make these tracks appealing(with the exception of Busta on “L AMN”). He’s pretty much carrying them. Rating the cd, 4 out of 5 is feels accurate. I’m somewhat tough on artist when it comes to music and I’d grade it the same. That grade is so well deserved! Chris hasn’t failed to deliver a great cd yet! I’m still torn between Fame and Graffiti, when it comes down to which is the better album. I may lean towards Graffiti on that one, but the energy (innovation and creativity) on this album surely has Chris out doing himself!

I think you gave a very fair review of the album. Personally Graffiti will always be on its own pedestal in my eyes. If I could mix songs from Graffiti with F.A.M.E., that would be his greatest body of work. He shows his best vocals on Up 2 You, which is a throwback to 90s R&B. His singing of the bridge in that song is just AWESOME!!!

F.A.M.E. is good and I am especially in love with the bonus track called “All About You”. I’ve had that on repeat all day because it’s so inspirational and it has like a pop-country sound. What I admire about Chris the artist is that he is fearless about trying other genres of music and refuses to do only one type of music.

  30. paigej March 23, 2011

I think it was a good and honest review although I like She Ain’t You & Say It With Me also Next To You is one of my faves and its doing really well on the charts its #23 on UK itunes I think and #4 on US itunes so the song is doing something right baring in mind the song has no promo and it isn’t even released as a single yet! Wet The Bed is my f***** jam I swear that song stays on repeat! All in all Chris did a great job and the album is solid

Really hoping he gets that #1 spot on BB… You can only hope though right its up to God to do the rest

Teambreezy keep buying FAME in stores near you and make sure they are re-stocking the album if they tell you its sold out… And a lot of people are complaining about all these stores not having FAME because its supposedly sold out due to obviously people buying it & popular demand if so that’s a good thing and believe it or not haters people are buying Chris’ album you mad? Stay mad

  31. MISHKA March 23, 2011

F.A.M.E comes out as the best surprises to suckers for good and genuine music like me . 4/5 is fair for me.

The whole album is great from a to m. Chris put on music for kids, teens, moms, men, cougars, white folks, black ones, hood, privileged, americans, europeans, africans, asians, etc. Everybody gets a shot. Chris Brown has definitely put the E on Everything.

I foresee a string of Grammy nominations : Look at me now is on its way, and I can see “Up to you ” winning Best Solo Male RnB performance.

I wasn’t really fan of the autotune especially in the ballads, but Chris Breezy hold his own live. I hope he gets the chance to belt “Up to You”, “She ain’t you” and “All back” live and submits it to the Grammys commitee.

I definitely see FAME nominated for Grammy of the Year. I hope the current events don’t outshine his comeback. All he need to do is to run away from the media and focus on his everything: his fans.

  32. Prince&Queen March 23, 2011

I remember TGJ Graffiti album review was a bunch of B.S! Lol but this time i agree with ur album review. His album indeed is a Great,Solid album. He showed Growth and Maturity on this album. F.A.M.E is Definitely better than Graffiti.

Yeeeessss Chris is Back!!!! He is now back to being a Prince in my eyes.

I agree with you his voice was never that great. He is not as vocally talented as Usher and Justin but he is the stronger dancer. He is also very creative.
I liked Yeah3x so I’m kinda disappointed there is not a single as similar in the album.

I do not have my copy as yet 🙁 but I know this album will not disappoint based on the great music he has recorded and released thus far. I heard FAME is projected to sell between 250K-275K this week. Might possible debut at No. 1.

Barry Weiss certainly didn’t leave the cupboard bare at Jive/RCA when he split for UMG.
The label group will have the top four debuts on next week’s chart, with Jive/JLG’s Chris Brown album, F.A.M.E., leading the way, boasting a total of in the 250-275k range. That would make it the second-largest of the year after Adele’s 351k. If you didn’t know, the acronym stands for “Forgive All My Enemies.” Nice.” (http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08466m01)

These are “Exclusive_fast-to-platinum/Pre Feb 8th, 2009 Chrianna numbers!”

If only I could see him, right now. I’d like to shake his hand! I’d like him to know that I, a black man, as he is, took up this (HIS/OUR) fight for OVER 2-years!

I don’t think I’ll ever meet him, but I’d like him to repay me (how?): Go and help another young black man who is mistreated, misunderstood, slandered and turned away!

This album is absolute trash. LOUD is the best album of all time. Better than Thriller, and definitely better than this s***.

Chris, take your ass back to the projects and sell some weed. You can’t dance or sing. Rihanna is the reason you even have a name. She put you on the map when you started dating. Nobody knew who you were before then.

  45. VA STAND UP!! March 23, 2011

Well this was a pretty good review Trent, an interesting read but I don’t agree with a lot of what you said but whatever, its your opinion…we’re still buddies. Lol!

@Ethan: Preach! I am IN LOVE with ‘All Back’. My favorite song on the album! Its funny cause I just knew ‘Up to You’ was gonna be my favorite but ‘All Back’ just came & stole my heart! His vocals on that are beautiful & he sings with such passion. *tears*

For the most part I’m loving the album! I aint gonna lie, I was nervous as hell at first but I’m so happy that I’m enjoying it! I think he has a nice lil mix on there, lots of different sounds that will appeal to everyone.

My favs are ‘Up to You’, ‘All Back’ (this song gives me life), ‘Should’ve Kissed You’, ‘Oh My Love’ (I like the chorus better than the actual verses) ‘Paper, Scissors, Rock’, ‘Wet the Bed’ (nasty) ‘Beg For It” & of course the ones we’ve already heard. Its a solid album & I really enjoyed it! He has a lot of potential singles & if he chooses the right ones & videos are hot he should have a lot of success with this album!

For someone reason I’m not really feeling ‘She Ain’t You’ too much. Its a cute song but I think the lyrics are corny and I think he has much better singles to choose from. *shrugs*

He promised us ‘Beautiful People’ a minute ago but if the video he released yesterday is in fact the ‘real’ video I’m not impressed. The song has the potential to do really well & I want a video that will compliment the song well. Not just a video with him being silly with his friends (although I do think its cute that he has his homies in the video) I wanted something more serious. *shrugs*

I don’t agree with Trent at all about the Justin duet. I’m not a Justin Bieber fan by any means & I didn’t even like the song at first but it has really grown on me. Its a bit cheesy but the lyrics are beautiful & meaningful. I think Justin vocals have really improved he impressed me. JB & CB sound really good together too. I honestly couldn’t even tell them apart on some parts. Plus its currently No. 4 on iTunes & on twitter this was on of the songs getting the most buzz. Its definitely gonna be a smash on the charts!

My only complaint with the album is that he used to much autotune & the album didn’t really didn’t have a theme or direction. Like he just picked a bunch of records that he liked and thought would be hits in no particular order.

  46. MissImpartial March 23, 2011

    @Lolita
Chris was already known internationally everywhere before he dated Rihanna. He was successful. He was selling more albums than Rihanna before they dated.
Lol Loud being better than Thriller. Loud sound like every random s*** out there so how is it the best ever.

  47. Proud March 23, 2011

    Dear Good Morning America,

As you know, Chris Brown was a guest on your show yesterday, and after being asked a pretty obvious and entirely reasonable question about the on-going legal situation surrounding his violent beating of Rihanna, he not only provided a disgustingly unapologetic answer (“It’s not really a big deal to me now”) but proceeded to trash his dressing room before ripping his shirt off and storming out of the studios. I mean, what a F****** MONSTER, right? Who does that? Who does that anyway, much less who does that when they have a widespread public reputation for unwarranted violent outbursts? Yikes. I’m sure questions about his attack on Rihanna make Chris Brown uncomfortable, but you know what else makes people uncomfortable? GETTING PUNCHED REPEATEDLY IN THE FACE IN A RENTED (lol) LAMBORGHINI! When everything is said and done, Chris Brown still seems to be the one getting off easy, so maybe he should just answer the f****** questions with a modicum of respect for the seriousness of the situation and chilllllllll.

But so here is why I am writing this letter to you, Good Morning America: WHAT THE F*** IS YOUR PROBLEM? Not only are you not pressing charges against Chris Brown, but now you are asking him to return to the show? What kind of pandering, pro-violence, egomania-enabling, f***** up world without consequences (for a chosen few) do you live in*, you assholes?

I’m sure that managing a daily morning talk show is difficult. So much politics, right? You’ve got to do some work to massage the big egos of Hollywood so that they keep coming back and answering your questions about favorite limousines to ride in and who has a crush on whom! Sure. I get that. But guess what: THAT’S NOT WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. We are talking about a convicted domestic abuser continuing a pattern of ACTUAL F****** VIOLENCE, and not only do you pretend like this is not some kind of problem by refusing to file a police report, but you indulge and encourage it by publicly stating (PUBLICLY STATING) that everyone on the show “wishes him the absolute best.” EVERYONE ON THE SHOW WISHES HIM THE ABSOLUTE BEST? A) WHY? B) F*** YOU. I’m not expecting any staffers who might disagree with this statement into which they have been unceremoniously lumped to actually quit their jobs in protest, but they should at least SERIOUSLY CONSIDER IT.

    Yuck.

The nature of celebrity culture is such that it only takes a minor stumble for the public to turn on their stars, but it takes a similarly minor act of contrition to enter one’s redemption phase. This cycle is played out time and again, and it’s now ingrained and immutable. Good Morning America certainly isn’t responsible for this, although I’m sure you guys have a role to play in all three acts of any career. But this was not a minor stumble. This was a well-documented, successfully prosecuted, and ADMITTED attack against a woman (not that the woman part really matters, if Chris Brown beat the s*** out of a dude in a rented [lol] Lamborghini and then RAN OFF INTO THE NIGHT, LEAVING THEM FOR DEAD he would still be a horrific piece of s*** and face legal consequences), for which this asshole has never even actually APOLOGIZED. The only thing he has ever regretted was getting caught. Well, getting caught and apparently having to answer “annoying” questions about it. And now you guys, having witnessed this violence first hand, are throwing your not-inconsequential weight behind defending and appeasing an ACTUAL CRIMINAL. Who committed brand new crimes IN YOUR HOME. Think about what kind of message that sends to people. Not just young people, either. Think about the message that sends all people. It is a really REALLY awful message!

F*** you, Good Morning America. I wish you the absolute worst.
    Gabe.

  48. paigej March 23, 2011

FAME4Number1 lol damn I’m praying Chris gets that no.1 spot on BB

  49. Proud March 23, 2011

This morning Robin Roberts from Good Morning America interviewed Chris Brown, who is on a promotional tour in support of his new album, F.A.M.E. During the interview, she asked Brown questions about his attack of pop star Rihanna, which enraged the singer. He apparently threw a tantrum, smashing soundproof windows at the ABC studio and soliciting building security’s attention. He then stripped to his shirt, stormed from the building and logged on for a two-tweet Twitter tirade.

At the 2007 MTV Awards I became a fan of 18-year-old Chris Brown. He gave an epic performance that began with a nod to master mime Charlie Chaplin and ended with an homage to the King of Pop. Brown lip-synched most of his seven-minute spectacle, but what he proved that night was that he is a prodigal entertainer. When they turned his mic on he sang well-crafted R&B songs in a serviceable, throaty falsetto, but, my God, the boy could dance. He was as athletic as the Nicholas Brothers (his favorite crowd pleaser is a series of back flips), but as tall and as seemingly weightless as Michael Jackson. He leaped along the guest tables that night, ending up on Diddy’s, who openly bowed to him when he finished. That night he invited his then 19-year-old girlfriend Rihanna onstage to sing a few bars of her huge pop hit “Umbrella.” They were absolutely adorable, their eyes aglow with young love. They appeared publicly and affectionately for the next year and half, supporting one another as they navigated the wilds of new fame at impossibly young ages.

And then, on February 7, 2009, Chris Brown violently attacked Rihanna, beating her and threatening he’d kill her. He left her on a sidewalk in the middle of the night in L.A.’s upscale Hancock Park, where a resident called the police. They photographed the beautiful Cover Girl spokewoman’s fresh wounds and then leaked them to the hungry press. Within hours the world witnessed the brutality of his domestic violence.

I am not objective when it comes to domestic violence. I am against it. I ceased being a Chris Brown fan. I read my Twitter timeline and listened to urban radio in horror as they typically assigned blame, partial or otherwise, to the victim, Rihanna. Rihanna, of course, did an Oprah-style recount with Diane Sawyer. Brown wore a regrettable blue bowtie to Larry King, where he hedged a public apology without taking complete responsibility for his actions. Then, disastrously, he released an album six months later and publicly whined (on Twitter) when, to his surprise, the public hadn’t “moved on” from his attack of Rihanna. Major box-store chains refused to even stock the album.

What he didn’t seem to understand was that it was way too early for an album. Not only had we not moved on, but Rihanna had barely healed from the emotional trauma (when she attempted an even march forward on her ABC special it only further belied her fragility). Just as important, and I don’t always consider attackers just as important in domestic abuse cases, Chris Brown had clearly not even begun to heal. Early in his career, teenage Chris Brown gave a heart-wrenching interview where he said watching his stepfather beat his mother had made him both so enraged he wanted to fight the man and so afraid of him that he’d wet his pants. When 16-year-old Chris Brown said in a magazine interview that he’d wet his pants at 13 he was a mere three years away from his abuse. Children who witness abuse are abused. When Brown abused Rihanna he was five years away from his own abuse.

He clearly doesn’t have the kind of support system that is encouraging—even insisting—him to seek mental health treatment. His mother is an enabler, and his handlers huddled him into a truck the night he boxed in Rihanna’s face, leaving her to fend for herself—an incredible misstep. Even if they hated Rihanna, they had to know leaving her there would lead to a publicity Chernobyl. These handlers were twice his age.

In lieu of therapy, Chris Brown has Twitter. His small army of fans uses the hashtag #teambreezy to avoid forcing the still young, imploding star to seek the therapy he so desperately needs to not become his stepfather. It is tragic. He’s young enough to be saved. Imagine what a true public healing would do for young Black teenagers entangled in the deadly dance that is domestic violence.

  50. i&i(yardie) March 23, 2011

    @ XYZ
“Go and help another young black man who is mistreated, misunderstood, slandered and turned away!”

    I agree completely!

  51. Still Realistic March 23, 2011

For the life of me I can’t understand why people are supporting this guy. He committed a heinous crime against a woman. And no, he didn’t pay for it. No jail time for attempted murder. If he wasn’t musically talented/famous he would have been charged with attempted murder. He would also still be serving time.
I wish people would go as hard for their community leaders like they go hard for these celebrities.

  52. ANONYMOUS March 23, 2011

I thought I was the only who didn’t really like the Michael Jackson sampled “She Ain’t You”.

The song wasn’t written very well and when you are sampling the King of Pop you have to come harder.

  53. Rihannalover March 23, 2011

Hopefully, he, his fans/stans and the black media can stop blaming Rihanna for his career and personal problems! He’s doing well despite everything! No more playing the blame game, Chris!!! You’re back in the game!!!

  54. AuntieJackie March 23, 2011

    @VA stand up

You didn’t like the beautiful people video? I did, I actually thought it was nice to have a break from the glossy videos he did for Look @ me now, and Yeah 3x. As I put in my other post, it seemed like a tribute to the “beautiful people” that supported the making of the album—his friends and fans.

  55. Maria March 23, 2011

Trent, INFAMY is what results from scandalous behavior NOT Fame. The album should be called SHAME. Chris Brown is a disgrace who is supported by ghetto h***, thugs, hoodrats, and f***. He can’t escape incarceration. It’s going to happen.

  56. pink.kisses March 23, 2011

@stillrealistic- I swear I can’t stand when ppl question other ppl’s PERSONAL decision to support an artist. If you don’t like him then move on, I don’t see ppl questioning why ppl are still supporting other entertainers when they’ve done something wrong granted what he did was terrible but no one is perfect, and since you mentioned I hope you go as hard for your community leaders as much as you do in trying to convince others not to support chris. Whether he was famous or not has nothing to do w/ what he was charged with, if you have a problem take it up w/ the judge and the jury you’re acting like we made the decision ourselves. I believe in Jesus and I also believe in forgiveness as well does he.

  57. paigej March 23, 2011

@Lolita honey you obviously are a little delusional “LOUD is the best album of all time… Better than thriller”? I mean I understand your a fan of Rihanna but at least be honest and keep it real! It may be your opinion but girl… I just can’t and as for your comment on Rihanna being the reason why Chris has a name you need to sit with that b******* cause Chris Brown is the reason why Rihanna is so “high” up on a pedestal right now! Chris putting the girl in check brought her a lot of sympathy! Not to mention her should’ve been Oscar nominated for best actress performance on that 20/20 interview! Constantly bringing up Chris’ name in magazine interviews the b**** juiced the incident until it couldn’t be juiced anymore so basically she has Chris to thank for where she is now

Moving on to something of relevance FAME in stores NOW go cop that!

  58. paigej March 23, 2011

    @Maria stereotyping much?

  59. paigej March 23, 2011

@Stoprealistic oh please go preach that s*** somewhere else we are fans of Chris Brown and are proud of it! You can’t change that! The media/industry can’t change that! Coming on the post talking about something that happened 2 years ago boy/girl please we are not here for that! We supported him then so ain’t a thing gone change now! I’m sorry if that upsets you but Teambreezy & his fans are dedicated to what we believe in and we believe in Christopher Maurice Brown! You mad? Stay mad!

FAME in stores now go get your copy!!!

  60. almostpia March 23, 2011

    @stillrealistic

I believe that you can separate an artist from their music. We celebrate so many other artists who have demonstrated certain past or present reckless behaviors:

Jay-Z (former drug dealer and charged with assault due to stabbing Lance “Un ” Rivera)
Lil Wayne (drug abuser, convicted for carrying a gun, and self-identified Blood gang member)
Eminem (recovering drug abuser and self-identified physical abuser)
    ….and the list goes on

All these artists are lauded as great. Therefore, I don’t think nobody can judge who someone else chooses to support.

  61. Prince&Queen March 23, 2011

Trent i didnt mean to agree with ur whole album review. U r Definitely Wrong about “Wet The Bed” and “Say IT With Me”being a stumble. Those are 2 of the BEST songs on the album. Ludacris was not out of place. He fit that song very well.

He shouldve left “She Aint You” off the album or put another beat to it and left Timberland off Paper,Scissors,Rock.
Beg For it ( this song is SOO FREAKIN AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!) and “Souldve Kissed You” Need to be a single ASAP and have video ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All Back and Beautiful People grows on u.
The rest of the Songs are AMAZING!!

I think Chris should make a Video Anthology for F.A.M.E

  62. paigej March 23, 2011

About this BP video: the vid has a great message behind it and I think its sweet but that song has great potential of being his first UK #1 its the kind of music they listen to over there and go crazy for… A few weeks back some of his fans were begging him to release the song over there ASAP lol… I just believe with the right video and right amount of promo BP can be a massive hit trust me… The video is sweet as I said before but I just wish he focused on the song as a real single and promoted it and all of that lol She Aint You is a good song but I don’t think its single material Beautiful People would’ve been a good follow up after LAMN but oh well I guess Chris knows what he’s doing *shrugs* just kinda wish BP was more focused on cause its such a great meaningful song I don’t want it to go to waste knowing it could dominate the European/UK charts 🙁

  63. KaVion March 23, 2011

No offense, but I don’t agree with a lot of this review. Lol.

For one, Justin Bieber was just background vocals on Next to You and sounds VERY similar to Chris on that song. It’s clear you’re basing your opinion of him solely on the fact that he’s “Justin Bieber”. As for rap, if I EVER hear you guys critique a rapper again, I will go the hell in. Lmao. Honestly, you guys need to stick to critiquing Pop & R&B because you focus on delivery and style alone. Drake could never come up with the metaphors Kevin McCall used in Deuces, “I’m a d***, so it shouldn’t be that hard to swallow”. I mean, really? I love Chris, but when you see everyone singing along to Deuces they go WILD when Kevin’s part comes on, so how is Chris carrying him?

As for Chris’ vocals, I agree, All Back has some of his strongest vocals. I disagree that it’s overly produced though, it’s actually pretty stripped down. Next to You also has amazing vocals, they’re just more simplistic.

She Ain’t You is solid. It’s a great mix of soulful and pop sounds.

Deuces – 4/5. The beat is crazy & the lyrics deliver. It’s played out though.
Up to You – 3/5. Something was missing, can’t tell what though.
No BS – 3/5. There’s nothing special about it.
Look At Me Now – 4.5/5. Song goes crazy hard, there’s no denying it.
She Ain’t You – 4/5. It’s very creative & I love how soulful his vocals sound.
Say It With Me – 2/5. It’s too much, you can’t even really tell what it’s about.
Yeah 3x – 5/5. The lyrics are amazing & uplifting and that chorus is a winner!
Next to You – 5/5. Once again, amazing lyrics. The melodies are also beautifull.
All Back – 4/5. Amazing vocals & very unique.
Wet the Bed – 4/5. S*** is s***! Lol, it’s raw & nasty. Straight to the point.
Oh My Love – 3.5/5. It’s really fun and the hook is amazing. A little too generic though.
Should’ve Kissed You – 4/5. The “With You” of F.A.M.E.
Beautiful People – 4/5. Inspirational lyrics, fun beat & an infectious hook.

    I agree 4/5!

My favorites are Next to You, All Back, Yeah 3x, Should’ve Kissed You, She Ain’t You & Beautiful People. If Chris would just combine the aspects of Graffiti & F.A.M.E. into one album, he’d have a CLASSIC on his hands!

    UNBIASED REVIEW LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

HAVE YOU SEEEEEEEEN THE BACK GROUND WALL PAPER HAS HE EVER DONE THAT FOR ANOBODY ELSE NO!

Please we know this site is UP chris brown ass they are stans why do you think they hate her so much so please let’s not say it is professional or unbiased because me and you both know they love him no matter what he do. Just like when he tried to kill rihanna do you think they cared.

On another note if you want a REAL review please go to the Professionals not two QUEENS Thank you.

I’m sorry It’s just had to say because this site ain’t nothing but a chris brow fan site everyone here acting like this the real T! it’s like Rihanna Daily reviewing LOUD do you think they gone spill the real t NO.

  65. Keesha March 23, 2011

Nice fair review. My favorites are “All Back”, “Next To You”, “Should Have Kissed You”, “Up To You”, “Wet The Bed” (although I was skeptical to listen to it after reading the title), “Say It With Me” (chorus only) and “Oh My Love” (chorus only). I only have the regular version, but I did hear “Bomb” with Wiz Khalifa and “Paper Scissors Rock” with Timbaland and Big Sean on Rap Up’s blog site. I’m not too fond of Chris’ rapping, especially on an album and I’m not a big fan of Wiz, but I do like the beat to “Bomb.” I LOVE the beat to “Paper Scissors Rock” and I like the chorus. There’s too much auto tune on the chorus though (call me a fake fan or a complainer or whatever, that’s my opinion).

  66. Blue Kid March 23, 2011

    @ Trent
That was a wonderful review and the statements you made from jump is right on point.

    Excellent, just excellent!

That’s exactly how I feel about the Say It With Me!

  68. Blue Kid March 23, 2011

I love the entire CD, it is just wonderful, nobody can touch FAME it’s out there!

  69. AuntieJackie March 23, 2011

    Here comes @Yellow Gorilla

Being a fan doesn’t mean you won’t be honest–but that’s something you obviously can’t imagine to be true–because you can’t be honest about your fav.

The CB album was a good album. There were very few songs I didn’t like, a few of the techno/house ones that I saw as filler.

The more important part is that this album showed he is amazingly versatile as an artist. Yes, I said it, an artist. Because he designed and painted the album cover, he wrote or co-wrote every track. He helped to produce most of the material. He named the album himself.

He probably broke a glass window on GMA…because he’s a real person, not a paper doll dressed up by other people. He actually got pissed. Yeah, I siad it, he’s real. He doesn’t say and do the same wack, rehearsed s*** in every interview.

The only people talking s***, once again, are Rihanna stans….who shouldn’t throw stones in a glass house.

  70. ZANIA March 23, 2011

i project 350,000 to 400,000, because hitsdailydouble never counts digital sales. there sales are always lower than billboard sales. I heard jive already shipped more cds.

  71. S*** March 23, 2011

Meh, Its OKay from what I’ve heard I Guess. With FIST FROWN you get what you get, a bunch of his TYPICAL Radio Cuts & Auto Enhanced Radio Vocals. I hear NO GROWTH in his Music Nor Vocals. But HIS FANS like it & thats all that matters… 🙂

    1. Deuces
    2. Look At Me Now
    3. No BS
    4. Wet The Bed
    5. Bomb
    6. up to you

^^^ These are the Better Tracks.

  72. KaVion March 23, 2011

    @S***
Those are literally the worst songs on the album. Lmao

  73. paigej March 23, 2011

Wet The Bed, Beautiful People, She Ain’t You, Say It With Me, Yeah 3x , Deuces, No BS, Up To You, LAMN, Paper Scissors Rock, All Back, Should’ve Kissed You, Next To You, Beg For It & Bomb all these songs are solid whereas Oh My Love & Love Them Girls I don’t really care that much for and The Game really didn’t bring nothing to the song he was featured on
But Ludacris spoke volumes on Wet The Bed #hurricaneluda lmfao

  74. S*** March 23, 2011

Chris has POTENTIAL that he still to this day hasnt even come CLOSE to reaching. He should do more of the Music he did PRE-Rihanna’s Black Eye. 😐 More Dueces, ake you downs, With Yous, Wall to walls ETC

He needs to get his Justin T, MJ & Usher on by now 😐

  75. S*** March 23, 2011

    @KaVion

Only if you have BAD TASTE AKA a Huge Fan that woulds enjoy the sound of his Farts.

Sorry but Yeah 3x & Beautiful People ARE NOT CUTTING IT.

I want to hear REAL S*** from Chris Brown (& Rihanna)

    http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lhktnmgnUe1qdetru.gif

The Ass Kissing is a little TEW much, and AT MOST the album is like 3 stars worthy….I Like some of the records, and my money was well spent….It isnt a horrible album by any means….But its not a masterpiece either

    FAME >>>>>>>>>>>> Graffiti

  78. Robier March 23, 2011

#Team Breezy. If he stays steady 250-275k

  79. DION-ISH March 23, 2011

Oh yea and my favorite song on the Album is Beautiful People, Bomb, LAMN, & Next To You.

FYI — Of Course TGJ would attack Justin Bieber BTW…Doesnt make since to attack him, but praise Willow…Like What?? How could ANYBODY hate Justin Bieber? That kid is thee s***, period.

  80. KaVion March 23, 2011

    @S***
Those songs have the least substance on the entire album.

Next to You, All Back & Should’ve Kissed You are all much better songs. Now, you know I’m not a delusional stan, in fact, you know I stan for Bey first, everyone else second. Graffiti is a better album than F.A.M.E, but F.A.M.E is more cohesive and creative. Chris makes good music, a lot of it is extremely underrated.

I suggest you peep songs like I’ll Go, Lucky Me, Save Me, Dreamer, I Need This, Graffiti, Fallin Down, Down, Crawl, Forever etc.

  81. S*** March 23, 2011

    #

    KaVion

After previewing all the tracks, Those are the songs I found to have the most TASTE/FLAVOR, To be honest I wasnt very impressed with any song aside from Dueces. The more “substance” songs you mentioned are Boring. Lady GAGa’s BTW is of Substance but that doesnt mean the song isnt a Hot pile of Garbage. & Graffiti was a HOT MESS!!!!!!

OMG, just stick to being a Beyonce-Fan Boo cause as a Chris Fan you ANNOY ME!!

  82. KaVion March 23, 2011

    @S***
I’ll Go has a LOT of flavor to it. It has that new age New Orleans Jazz feel and is NOTHING like anything else that was out then. The bass in Lucky Me is insane and even though it’s deep, the hook is extremely infectious, and you KNOW Crawl is nowhere near boring. Also, She Ain’t You & All Back have much more flavor than No BS, Wet the Bed & LAMN.

Lmfao, another thing you should know S***..As Beyonce stans, you know we don’t give a F***! I could care less if I annoy you, you know we’re going to keep talking as long as there’s air in our lungs and a toungue in our bigass mouths.

  83. S*** March 23, 2011

^^^ That last part was true lol but Im gonna shut up though cause I dont know If I can tolerate you licking Chris Brown’s P*** off of the Side Walk any longer…

  84. KaVion March 23, 2011

    @S***
Lmfao, I NEVER kiss Chris’ ass. Go look at the previous posts. My own Team Breezy attacked my ass just because I don’t kiss his ass like they do. I said F.A.M.E didn’t impress me like it should’ve & they leaped on my ass like I said he should burn in hell. I always give my honest opinions, if it comes off as ass kissing, so be it. I could say the same thing about you & Bey. Lol

  85. Secret Voice March 23, 2011

I just finished today buying another 4 copies of F.A.M.E. and at 3 stores I was told that they just received a backup shipment and were already selling out of those! At the last store I went to they had 9 copies left. I L.O.V.E. the entire cd but that “Say It With Me” is on REPEAT!!

I love every song on the cd.I can’t lie even though I bought multiple copies of Graffiti,I only liked 4 songs and they were: Pass Out/ Lucky Me/Gotta Be Your Man and Fallen.

Chris outdid himself with this cd!!!!!!!!!

  86. browngirl March 23, 2011

my fave song, should’ve kissed you

    so beautiful.

  87. Nieka March 23, 2011

@ kavion and Dion ish I have both graffiti and fame I really think cb is versitile in both albums. I love I’ll go that was on repeat for a while but with fame up to you and wet the bed are the best IMO! Dion please reconsider graffiti u won’t be disappointed hell I even like pass out from the cd. Lol but fame is great.

  88. Y’all are too fake March 23, 2011

    Awww shut up Team Breezy.
It’s a good album. Yes. But He’s Michael Jackson???
    U gotta be kidding.

& Rihanna is a pop robot, can’t sing, can’t dance, if Chris didn’t hit her, she wouldn’t be famous. Stfu.

  89. DION-ISH March 23, 2011

    ^^^

We’ll See. I Want To…So imma try and listen to Graffiti Sometime this week, but i really thought it was pure s***. tbqh

  90. DION-ISH March 23, 2011

    @Y’ALL ARE TOO FAKE

You can have your opinion and say she cant sing or dance….because my opinion is she can, and when your as big of an artist as Rihanna…Those opinions are what comes with the territory BUT saying she wasnt popular before CB is pure LIES!!

Lets be FUKIN honest here, Rihanna was the Worlds little Pop Princess….And DEF at one of the heights in her career, just after becoming the Pop Phenomenon she is today …If it was somebody like Cassie, Ciara or Keri Hilson…..I Dont think he would’ve gotten the backlash as bad as he did from it. Its because it was RIHANNA that it got SOO much Media Attention.

And um Didnt Chris Brown OPEN for Rihanna on her GGGB Tour…..Theres no argument Rihanna is a bigger International artist then Chris Brown.

His delusional fans keep saying move on it happened 2 yrs ago blah blah blah, I understand everyonemakes mistakes and nobodies perfect but the thing is he hasnt learned anything, smashing a glass window in a rage because the interviewer asked about Rihanna which he agreed to talk about before the interview started, his stupid behaviour could of seriously hurt someone, say if that glass fell on a innocent member of public walking by what would you dumb fans say then? oh they shouldnt of been walking around there. He was boosting about finishing his classes for anger management but what has he learned? if he was a change person he wouldnt of behaved as he did whether or not the interviewer was trying to get him angry. And I didn’t want to bring this up, but I just saw 106 & Park and Chris apologized for his actions on GMA. I’m glad that he apologized and I just have to say that I hope he goes and gets counselling, not for us or his family, but for himself. He obviously has anger issues, and that is just the truth.

TRENT I REALLY DO NOT THINK U CAN REALLY BE HONEST WHEN IT COMES TO CHRIS BROWN AND NEITHER CAN SOME OF HIS FANS. THE ALBUM WAS OK. GOOD LUCK TO HIM

I CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT RIHANNA NEEDS TO STEP UP HER LIVE SHOWS AND STILL LOVE HER. THERE IS NO REASON WHY SHE CANT DO BETTER.

  101. TRUTH IS March 24, 2011

!@KEESHA, I understand your opinion, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say CB has anger issues! He was led to GMA under false pretenses and dont get me wrong, I;m not condoning nothing he does that is wrong, but all of this in my opinion could have been avoided if GMA was honest and not lie about what they were going to ask! It’s not right to do that to anyone so I understand his frustration. I totally agree with his mother (see nicole bitchie) that he needs to channel his energy his feelings into his dance and music. He is young and I feel everything he is going through is allowing him to grow and see now so that when he getts older he will be better. I dont agree with him having anger issues because if he had you would hear of other episodes before and after 2009 with a female. CB is what I would call HUMAN!! Its time for the world to move on and stop delving in the lives of others for a hot story! ITS DISGUSTING AND THIS WORLD HAS BECOME A SAD DEMONIC PLACE!! It was not right what he did but at the same time we need to encourage him rather than badger him and tell him he has anger issues because I believe its far deeper than anger.

Robin Roberts should not have done what she did and if she have a conscience, I’m sure she realized she was wrong, which is why she invited him back. GMA knew what they were doing which is not right but God sees and knows and what the devil thought for harm, God has and will continue to turn it around and make it for CB’s good.

FOCUS ON HIS MUSIC AND LEAVE HIS PERSONAL LIFE ALONE!!!! His music is what he owes his fans, not what he does in his personal life!!

On that note F.A.M.E IN STORES COP ONE OR TWO OR MORE!!! TEAMBREEZY!!!

@HATIN IS FOR SUCKAS aka CHRIS BROWN FAME MARCH22 @James hahahahahaha how what I said lame? its the truth and the only reason his album is doing well at the moment and went to number one was because he has no one else to compete with and because idiots like you wasting ur money buying 3/4 copies of his album obsessed much, next wk Brit Brit will be taking that spot.BTW I laugh how none of you can actually say anything else other than what I said about not buying his album, I pity you idiots that you look up to a woman beater and coward and constantly defend him, if he was a normal person that would you still be backing him up? doubt it.

@ Hating is For Suckas…You slay as usual.People kill me talking about Chris has anger issues as if they never get angry,I’m like yeah bytches.Chris only problem is that he needs a strong Black man to sit his a** down and school him on what it means to be the boogey man in a white racist world.Once he is prepared to deal with evil,he will be just fine.

And I didn’t want to bring this up, but I just saw 106 & Park and Chris apologized for his on GMA. I’m glad that he apologized and I just have to say that I hope he goes and gets counselling, not for us or his family, but for himself. He obviously has anger issues, and that is just the truth.

    I AGREE.

  117. TRUTH IS March 24, 2011

  119. Keesha March 24, 2011

@TruthIs I do agree that his issues do lie deeper than just anger, but still throwing a chair at a window is not right. And I’m sorry if my comment did kind of damper the mood, because I do love Chris’ album. I hope it does well, and it already seems to be doing well. Sometimes I just get too wrapped up in the personal lives of my faves.

  120. TRUTH IS March 24, 2011

  122. TRUTH IS March 24, 2011

@KEESHA I never said throwing a chair was right! What I said was I understand his frustration because he was led to the interview under false pretenses!! That’s not right as well!! He was lied to!! I pray he doesnt go back on GMA!! He needs support not rejection because he messed up!!! He’s human just like you and I.

  123. Brimichelle March 24, 2011

She Aint You and Wet The Bed are two of the best songs on the Cd. I disagree with a lot of this review. Chris did a great job. I love F.A.M.E!!!!!

  124. Keesha March 24, 2011

@TruthIs Robin Roberts herself is not rejecting him. If she were rejecting him, she would’ve bashed him with hateful comments during his interview or she wouldn’t have interviewed him at all. I saw an interview that she did with Gayle King yesterday and she talked about how Chris had invited her to his house a couple of years ago and they had a great conversation and interview and she even said that she is rooting for him and she wants him to succeed. Also, the fact that GMA is inviting him back shows that they aren’t rejecting him. I just hope that if Chris does go back on GMA and they try to interview him that he answers the questions maturely and does not let his emotions get the best of him.

And I’m done talking about this.

I LOVEEEEEEE this album!!! Been on repeat since I bought it. I really think he put his everything in it for his fans and it showed. But Trent I have to disagree with a few things. My FAVE track is All Back and I can just imagine what a superb job he would do live as well. I also love the mix of She Aint You, I think he mastered it very well. Also, how can you not mention Papers, Scissors, Rock, one of the best on the album??

    Great review!

  133. KD March 24, 2011

I have not listened to the album but based on what I have heard from his single releases so far (Deuces) is the only listenable track. I have to wonder whether the rating given is because the album has quality music or whether your disdain for Rihanna has something to do with it. Anyway congratulations are in order for the boy with anger management issues, his sales have far exceeded my expectations (the d*** pics must have done the trick).

  134. KD March 24, 2011

@Hell No: I feel you…there hasn’t been a single day this past few weeks where Chris Brown and his blonde hair have not graced the pages of TGJ. The background pics of him have only added to my nausea…I think I will give TGJ a break…at lease up until FAME drops out of the charts or Chris Brown drops off the face of the Earth…which ever one comes first.

Rihanna Shuts Down Journalist Over Chris Brown Questions

Chris Brown may have thrown a tantrum on Tuesday (March 22) after ‘Good Morning America’ host Robin Roberts brought up his domestic dispute, and his ex-girlfriend Rihanna is taking a similar approach. The Bajan singer recently shot down questions about Breezy during an interview with Fabulous magazine, flipping the script on the asking journalist when his name was mentioned.

“Excuse me?” snapped Ri when asked about her former fling. The interviewer persisted, determined to get an answer. “Next. You obviously want to talk about Chris Brown, I don’t,” quipped the red-haired singer.”

Rihanna later circled back to the incident and took a more general approach, telling the magazine that she’s just trying to continue on with her life and leave history in the past. “I wanted people to move on from it, [because] the last big thing they know about me is that night,” she continued.

  147. Oceanmate “FAME” I told U So! March 24, 2011

When the media brings up the past it hurts her ticket sales as well. So Ritard Fans you are not doing her a favor by bringing her up or bringing up the past!

..Zaina…ur trying WAY to hard!! why do you feel the need to parade b******* from post-to-post when that s*** has already been disproven, and you have been called out on it before?!! This is even more ridiculous espcially in light of the fact that Brown admoitted to the entire incident: Yeah-I mean I let my emotions, and fustrations get the best of me, and I got physical, but I didn’t hurt hurt nobody, or intend to do so….HE BROKE THE F*CKIN’ GLASS!! Sheesh, smh!! And to think in the upcoming weeks, and months all this fake ‘support’, and #TeamBreezy will be an afterthought with the advent of Gaga, Beyonce’, and Britney’s releases!!

@HATIN IS FOR SUCKAS aka CHRIS BROWN FAME MARCH22 Am not mad at all and at the end of the day dont try to make it about colour I dont care if ur black or white if ur a man and u beat the crap out of a woman I would be saying the same thing too and am a black girl myself so dont even go there.

@Jame F** go sit ur ass down I can write whatever I want its a blog and everyone has a opinion if u dont like it thats ur business ur idol is the one who is angry not me, even his own mother is cocerned about his violent behaviour so thats says something.

@RUTH IS I need help? LAMO darling its ur idol that needs the help not me as you see from his recent behaviour, so because I dont support an asshole am “angry” and “need help” what a dumbass the only bully is Chris, picking on people who cant obviously fight back, beating the crap out of someone until there nearly past out, your right about bullying its a terrible thing and the reason I feel so strongly against this is because I have a friend who nearly got killed by having an abusive boyfriend who beat her up everyday yes I can see your a very loyal fan and thats great but am sorry I just cant support someone like this, I myself used to love Chris and be a massive fan I even saw him in concert once, but since the Rihanna stuff it put me right off him for good.
