True talent is finally getting the attention that it deserves on the charts this week as both Adele and Marsha Ambrosius managed to garner more than impressive sales on the Billboard 200. However, if real talent is the name of the game then it’s no surprise that Britney Spears couldn’t accomplish similar success on the Billboard Hot 100.
Adele’s ’21’ maintained its control of the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week by selling an additional 168k copies, bringing its 2 week total to 520k and making it the top-selling album of 2011 to date. The LP has already sold more than half of what the singer’s 2008 debut record, ’19’, achieved since being released with sales of 954k units to date.
Ambrosius’s ‘Late Nights & Early Mornings’ claimed the #2 position with sales exceeding 96k, besting the sales peaks of both her releases with her former group Floetry. The duo’s ‘Floetic’ and ‘Flo’Ology’ plateaued at #19 with 41k and #7 with 77k, respectively.
Still, every act didn’t manage to exceed expectations this week. Spears’ ‘Till The World Ends’ got off to an underwhelming start at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 after selling 117k downloads in its 1st 3 days of release. By comparison, the Pop star’s chart rival Lady GaGa’s ‘Born This Way’ sold over 448k during the same period in February.
The inability of ‘Till The World Ends’ to nab the top spot prevents Spears from matching Mariah Carey’s record of 3 #1 debuts on the tally. Nevertheless, she remains the only other artist in history to have 2 #1 consecutive 1st-week entries on the Hot 100 other than Carey.
On the other hand, while Spears loses steam, Lady GaGa continues to surge ahead ‘Born This Way’ remains at #1 for a 4th consecutive week. Among female artists, the song is the 3rd single to enter the Hot 100 at #1 remain at the summit for 4 weeks or more. Carey’s ‘Fantasy’ spent 8 weeks at #1 in 1995 and her duet with Boyz II Men, ‘One Sweet Day’, stayed on top for 16 consecutive weeks in 1996 (the longest running #1 single in history).
Other performers who made moves on the Hot 100 this week were Jennifer Lopez whose ‘On The Floor’ sold 223k (up 31%) and climbed to #5, and Rihanna’s ‘S&M’ increased 2 spots to #3. Finally, Ke$ha’s ‘Blow’ jumped from #11 to #7, giving her the honor of having all 6 of her singles as a lead act enter the Hot 100’s top 10 lineup.

This is great news. That’s what she gets for scheduling her album to be released the same week as Chris Brown’s and Jennifer Hudson’s album. I hope her album FLOPS. And hopefully, Lady Gaga and Bieber will fade away as well.
If Britney’s song does not do better on the charts it is her own fault. I think her fans are supporting her tremendously and she is not even promoting the album on tv and live interviews. Without blogs like this nobody would even know she has two singles out and an album coming later this month. I am not saying she has to be like Lady Gaga and try to promote everywhere but she could do the standard promo that artists do to sell their CDs (popular tv shows, live interviews, commercials, etc).
