Despite scoring a record-setting #1 hit with ‘Hold It Against Me’, another top 10 single with ‘Till The World Ends’ and massive media campaigns, Britney Spears’ ‘Femme Fatale’ album is on track to underwhelm. The record may be a guaranteed #1 entry on the Billboard 200 but the expected sales are far below expectations.
‘Femme Fatale’ is projected to enter the chart with 275-300k. These figures represent a stark difference from the 505k that her previous LP, ‘Circus’, garnered in its 1st week in 2008 and much less than R&B singer Adele achieved with her ’21’ album which debuted with 352k earlier this year.
Expect other entries on the lineup to include Whiz Khalifa ‘Rolling Papers’ at #2 with 190-215k, Snoop Dogg’s ‘Doggumentary’ with 45-50k and Mary Mary’s ‘Something Big’ with 35-40k. Big fat bass? I think not.

That’s because 206K was Rihanna’s best opening week in the US ever, and unlike Rihanna, Britney is supposed to be apart of the “The Trinity,” the elite of the elite. Blackout opened higher than FF, and that was after Britney’s disasterous VMA performance. Britney’s numbers would have been higher had she done really good, live performances earlier than 2 or 3 days before the album release. It will be interesting to see how well Britney’s tour sells.

If she performs like this on the charts (it´s only a prediction) is not a flop. 300.000 is not a flop. I just wish she could have a big flop and retire. Britney is a talented entertainer. She makes good pop music, but this era is sloppy and all over the place. I still don’t understand how any of the promo shots and performance looks pertain to the theme of “Femme Fatale.” She’s hasn’t even been wearing white in the performances to match the album cover. Jive isn’t trying to be creative with the sets for her perfomances. So for example, every time Rihanna performed Only Girl, it looked different than the last. So, the Only Girl performance on X-Factor UK looked different than the Only Girl performance on X-Factor Italia and so on and so forth, but despite the tweaks and variations on her costuming and stage show, the Loud theme (red hair, flowers) was still evident. The only thing that changed with Brit’s 3 live performances has been her costume.

I remember EVERYONE saying oh Britney gonna snatch Gaga’s wig, and right now, from what I’m seeing, I don’t see ANYONE snatching Gaga’s wig. Born This Way after almost two months is getting into the top 5 after being number one for 6 weeks. I don’t think it’ll fall of the top ten of Billboard until May when her next single Judas comes out. Which by the way, will slay E.T., and whatever Britney’s next single is. Oh and RiRi, Idk… S&M is great, and is having good success. NOt groundbreaking success, but a fair amount.

Heaven knows, I love Bey, but honestly. She’s just been out of the loop for a LONG ASS TIME. She better come out with something hot that blows up fast. Not just that, but It’s very rare that I see Bey fans showing any commitment to her. Single Ladies was mostly fueled because it was a hot track and it’s video became a pop culture phenomenon. I mean, all the singles after single ladies underwhelmed. It’s funny I Am… Sasha Fierce only had two number one hits if I’m not mistaken. Gaga will surely snatch everyone’s wigs. Now when it comes to ACTUAL album quality, I don’t know yet because I’ve only heard Born This Way and a bunch of remixes from Gaga and have heard nothing but rumors, dates tossed around, and images from Beyonce, so honestly I don’t know what she’s up to so I can’t compare. I hope her sound is good. So far I like where Gaga is going with this disco/house/techno/rock thing she has working for her. I heard that Bey’s album will have party music(which leads me to believe will be dance/house music) and some combination of many different genres including older genres and put together as one production. IDK yet, but so far Gaga’s winning.

Since when is Loud not cutting it in the States? Last I checked, Loud yielded 2 #1’s, 3 top 5’s, a Grammy, and over a million copies sold in the US in 3 months. Rihanna fans have no reason to be be mad about her opening week sales. Her opening week sales have only increased with every era. The only ones shook over not having a #1 album in the US are her haters. Neither one of the albums that openend the same week as Rihanna’s have matched Loud’s US sales.

Pink is a real artist with real talent. She isn’t manufactured. She can actually perform and sing live. Yes Rihanna is platinum but it took everything she had to get there. She can thank holiday sales for that big boost. She would have been lucky to move 150k minus the holiday rush.

I don’t listen to Britney like that, but from what I’ve been reading it sounds like she’s having a similar problem as Drake did last year. Just couldn’t live up to the hype. And that’s especially bad for her because the media have finally stopped bringing up her private life (that was getting a little irritating).
As far as Rihanna (who’s album I bought on the first week), not only is it a shame she couldn’t do more than 200k first week, it also kind of a slap in the face (no pun intended) that Chris Brown OUTSOLD her in his first week for a #1 album (and I bought his album too). He is back and the media failed to stop him (and from what I saw, they most certainly tried, lol).
And, finally, look people, Lady Gaga is that fire right now. I don’t really like Beyonce (and she’s got paid more than Jay-Z last year btw) so I could care less about her albums. But Gaga has truly taken over. And she actually has something to say about the issues (I’ve never heard Britney or Christina say anything for or against anything other than “yeah my album is coming out). I might even be one in the pantheon that buys Gaga’s album. She really does make great music.
i’ve been hearing a lot of negative feedback of brit’s vocal ability (or lack thereof). i love the album: i downloaded it weeks ago when it leaked and i was in the to buy it when it came out. that being said, she is not adele! these two artists (whom i both love dearly) are going to go headed to head for sales this year, and a lot of people are dissing brit for not singing as well as our lady from across the pond. you know what i say? who cares??? take it for what it is! i can’t listen to “21” the same way that i listen to “femme fatale” but they are both awesome in their own way. so what if brit is autotuned? it’s a fun album with good songs. get over it!

LMMAO at these prediction numbers! I JUST KNEW THAT SHE WOULD FLOP! Face it, Britney doesn’t have IT anymore and people are finally seeing how untalented and boring she is. She’s a mother and just needs to worry about being a better mother/taking care of her kids instead of making music. Her performances are humiliating and this woman cannot sing whatsoever. Britney never had any real talent, but I will admit that back in the day, she had the beauty, body, style, hot beats, and she could move well onstage. It’s funny because for someone of her status, these numbers are horrible. It’s the same with Rihanna. 200,000 your first week and 3.5 million sold worldwide is nothing when you’re supposed to be this big superstar and have sold 9 million copies worldwide with your previous album! 270,000 is wonderful for Chris, especially since he’s making a comeback and is still young in the game, but for Britney, it’s laughable!
275-300K for the first week is still a respectable amount, especially in this sales climate. But yes these numbers are a bit underwhelming for an artist on Britney’s level. But to call it a “flop” is unfounded and that claim holds no water at all. This is Britney’s best album to date, and considering Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars is saying a lot. I think if the album hadn’t leaked 2 weeks early, the numbers would have been closer to the 500K mark for the first week. I see this record having longevity and going on to sell 1 million copies in 6 months.
She will NEVER EVER be the superstar she once was. People are not interested in a 29-year old ADULT that needs to be babysat every day to make sure she behaves, that has a pretend boyfriend to make her appear normal, that is not “allowed” to have a cell phone and every one knows she doesn’t do her own tweets. Furthermore, interviews are done via email so her management can answer them for her (save for the Z100 she just did in which people are making fun of her saying “um” and “like” a lot. Also, she didn’t even know about her own website). Her music sounds the same and her dancing is pathetic. Time for this mental midget to retire already while she has just a tiny shred of dignity left.
I’m not team Britney this time around, but Trent really need to STFU and sit his ass down somewhere.

The album really is quite bad. I miss Blackout. Her ability to perform has gone down hill big time. So unenergetic and lacking any quality of enthuasiasm.

Femme Fatale is a great album. As far as Gaga goes her song is selling very well but it is terrible. It’s her worst song, yet her most successfull. I’d rather have Britney “flop” and deliver great music than sell a lot of crappy songs. Britney’s beat selling album is her worst and her worst selling album was her best. When I listen to music I don’t care if other people buy it, it’s not going to affect me at all how much records an artist sells. It won’t make me any richer so I could care less. I just care if they make a great album that I can listen to all the way through and Britney has delivered with Femme Fatale, well done Britney.
