From The Vault: Lady Saw – ‘I’ve Got Your Man’

Lady Saw’s ‘I’ve Got Your Man’ is this week’s pick for From The Vault. The song was released as a single from her ‘Strip Tease’ album in 2004 and received strong airplay in the US as well as Europe. ‘Strip Tease’ was Lady Saw’s 5th studio album, arriving in stores almost exactly 10 years after her 1994 debut LP, ‘Love Girl’.

Songs like this exemplify the reason why Lady Saw remained a dominant force in Dancehall music for over a decade. Although she has not dropped a new record in almost 4 years, her catalog of music guarantees that she will remain the Queen of Dancehall for a very long time.

Admit it, this song is a guilty pleasure! Feel fre to sing it in traffic with your windows up and your tint extra dark.

Lady Saw is the true First Lyrical Lady of Rap! She goes hard on every single track. There is one Female MC that can touch her. NONE! She was the 1st to rock the colored wigs and get nasty. Niki and Kim should be paying her royalties!

@Roab you’re right. Jamaicans/West Indians have been rocking those colored wigs and crazy clothing since the dancehall movement started. We start di trend. And we all know Dancehall is older than Hip Hop. Lady Saw is the undisputed Queen of Dancehall. The only gyal that could test her was Patra and she stopped making music. The dancehall tend inspired the very creation of Hip Hop. All the early djs were West Indian or living in heavily West Indian communities (Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens). Pay Hommage Folks. Caribbean to di wooooooooooooooorld!!!! Yuh seeeee meeeeeeeh

I love her and I love this song. American Blacks and Caribbean’s are the same people dropped off in different places. Hence Dancehall and Hip-Hop’s close exchange-give relationship.

So yeah I also prefer the album explicit version…;)

I’m a Jamaican and I appreciate the dancehall love represented her on TGJ. Lady Saw is in fact the Queen.

Never u compare Lady Saw to Lil Kim. They’re not in the same category. Lady Saw is the type of woman that can go away for 10 years and she’s still on top. Its 2011 and NO ONE has taken her crown. She also has introduced many female dancehall artists to the industry and works alongside them, very humble and giving, something Lil Kim and her proud, cocky, jealous behind will never be.

Hail to dancehall music, the inspiration of Hip Hop.

YES i LOVE Lady Saw lol I’ve grown up listening to her stuff she is a total legend and Queen of Dancehall but i COMPLETELY agree with @LovingLife all that stuff you said about Lady Saw (which is true) also applies to Lil Kim and if you wern’t so biased towards Nicki just because she’s from Trinidad you’s aknowlege that.

@CRISS, Nobody has taken Kims crown despite what the tweens and idiots would have you believe and FYI Kim has worked with MANY females over the years, she even attempted to work with Nicki in the start but Nicki had her kicked off the song.

Please educate yourself before throwing b******* around, anyway love & respect to Lady Saw and lets hope for a new album soon! 😀

Ok, seemingly you all moderated my post with links.

As I said prior…she released an album called “My Way” months ago and the lead single was “Party Til December”.

  22. i&i(yardie) March 14, 2011

@Trent, she did release a new record (late last year/early this year) called “Party Til December”. Love that song but don’t fancy the above too much. I hate when females boast about taking another female’s man/husband. Its kinda pathetic if you ask me.
