This has been another triumphant week for Katy Perry. The singer’s ‘E.T (Ft. Kanye West)’ has scored a 3rd consecutive week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, soaring high above all other contenders.
‘E.T’ surged on radio during the last 7 days, attracting 108 million audience impressions (up 22%) and earned the title of Greatest Airplay Gainer for a 2nd time. The song also dominated the Digital Songs chart by selling over 323k downloads with only a 1% decrease compared to last week.
Perry’s closest competitor, Rihanna’s ‘S&M’, remained at #2 despite nabbing 123 million audience impressions (up 5%) and holding onto the #1 spot on the Radio Songs tally. The track’s inability climb the Hot 100 undoubtedly stemmed from a substantial 11% decline in sales to 141k. Of course, Britney Spears’ embarrassing inclusion on the song’s remix will surely help it to gain momentum on next week’s lineup (thanks to her name alone).
Elsewhere in the top 5, the 3 other records also remained in their respective positions from last week with the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’ at #3, ‘Cee-Lo Green’s ‘F*ck You (Forget You)’ at #4 and Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ at #5.
Lower on the listing, Jeremih’s ‘Down On Me (Ft. 50 Cent)’ climbed 1 spot to #6 whereas Chris Brown’s ‘Look at Me Now (Ft. Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne)’ dropped to #7. However, ‘Look At Me Now’ ruled the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a 4th week.
Britney Spears’ ‘Till the World Ends’ managed to reclaim a spot in the top 10 of the Hot 100 by rebounding from #13 to #8 thanks to the premiere of the track’s accompanying video. Moreover, at 1 spot below Spears, Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On the Floor (Ft. Pitbull)’ dipped to #9. Finally, rounding out the top 10 was Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ which stayed strong at #10.

Funny how Beyonce actually gets her singles to #1 the old fashioned way. If it wasn’t for itunes Lady Gaga, Rihanna, & Katy Perry wouldn’t have as many #1s without itunes. Could it be that you’re not listening to the radio? Did you not read the article? E.T. is at 108M AI. So, it’s getting TONS of airplay, digital, and phone in requests. Perry also has sales to match, because the track was #1 on itunes for weeks. That song should be #1.
And People still go out and buy singles. They use their PC’s, Macs, Smart Phones, and tablets to go to the i-tunes store and buy music. Who cares if people are buying digital copies rather than hard disks?
