The excitement for Rihanna and Britney Spears’ ‘S&M (Remix)’ has officially come and gone. Indeed, it seems that the user of those whips and chains must be a minute man because after only 1 week at the top spot, Katy Perry’s ‘E.T (Ft. Kanye West)’ has replaced the song at #1.
‘E.T’ sold an astronomical 344k downloads (up 21%), giving it a new sales peak and the boost it needed to return to chart summit. The song was followed closely by Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ which barreled up the tally from #6 to #2.
‘S&M’ tumbled down the Hot 100 to #4, falling even lower than the Black Eyed Peas’ ‘Just Can Get Enough’ which manned the #3 position. Closely following the auto-tuned duo was Jeremih’s ‘Down On Me (Ft. 50 Cent)’ at #5.
Further down the list was Bruno Mars’ ‘The Lazy Song’ at #6, Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On The Floor (Ft. Pitbull)’ at #7 and Chris Brown’s ‘Look At Me Now (Ft. Busta Rhymes & Lil Wayne)’ at #8. Finally, Ke$ha’s ‘Blow‘ re-enters the top 10 at #9 and Cee-Lo Green’s ‘F*ck You (Forget You)’ falls 5 places to #10.

With the control of the music industry firmly in the hands of corporate America, this sort of thing will continue to happen. Quality songs and artists will continue to be shoved to the back in favor of instant superstars and generic #1 pop songs! Just look at the 7 or 8 artsist that they constantly feature on every Award Show, TV program, radio special etc. Sure they may make one or two tunes that are hot but come now there are many many artists in the industry. When will we get a chance to also see and hear from them?

Only Girl debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 @ 75 based only on airplay then as soon as it went to Itunes it topped that chart and reached the Billboard Top 10 the first week it was released to Itunes. Kind of like how Run the World has been released to Itunes last week but people didnt buy it 🙂

Actually, except for her 4th album, EVERY Rihanna album has sold more than the previous one. So yes, she has been very consistent.
And I would note that LOUD is still selling very strongly. It has been in the top10 on the world charts EVERY WEEKS SINCE ITS RELEASE and it ain t going nowhere.
She’s gonna have a nice easter bump already seen in the US & UK charts this week.

Big Beyonce fan but im at University and no1 i know like the songs, some people like it for the beat but then they’ll just get “pon de floor”, regardless of whether this single will climb the charts or not, i dont see it doing as good as her previous ones. It has nothing to do with her popularity and everything to do with the quality of her music, which im glad for. True say, the charts is filled catchy yet forgettable pop songs, so billboard dont mean much now days.

Congrats to Katy once again. She works hard and it’s paying off. Her cd may not be making as much as others but she’s making more money than anyone on this blog. 😛 I just think she didn’t have a very strong fan base like others, lady gaga and beyonce, when she released Teenage dream. Honestly, I forgot about her after her song hot n cold and I really couldn’t call myself a fan till teenage dream/firework. Since I have all her songs now from itunes I probably won’t buy the cd BUT if she re-releases or makes another in the future, I’ll definitely buy it. So hopefully in the future her next album sales do well now that there are more people who are fans. People knew who she was before, like how people knew who Rihanna was when her first two cds came out but not as many people as today were true fans who would buy the cd. 🙂 Oh, and Beyonce and Lady gaga never really flop. They always do well in the end or make up for it.
Oh, and Katy did Co-write every song in both her albums. 🙂 Whether or not the songs are good is arguable but she did help write them all.
