Jennifer Hudson Tributes Bob Marley On ‘Jimmy Fallon’

Published: Thursday 12th May 2011 by David

To honor the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley‘s death, Jennifer Hudson performed a moving tribute to the cultural icon last night on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’.

Peep the moving performance after the jump…

Sam’s Side Note: Faux Patois aside, Ms. Hudson delivered a decent effort here. Though, album to plug or otherwise, this serves as a reminder that certain voices aren’t suited to certain songs or genres.

Why was she asked to do this tribute? Where the hell is Lauryn Hill & the Fugees? Anybody?? She didn’t do that bad…I’m just saying??

Bob Marley has influenced the entire world with his music, which will live on to be rediscovered by more and more generations to come. His work has affected my life and my art so much. I paid tribute to him with a surreal and psychedelic portrait inspired by his words. You can see it on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.b*******.com/2011/05/in-memoriam-bob-marley.html

What is wrong with this world, she is celebrating his legacy, u all need to sit down she did great. Better then Rihanna when she tied to sing on Oprah

not good! sam is right, she can sing but vocals not suited for this. no passion, no distress in voice just blah, jen say no sometimes and stick to your genre- not feeling this at all and stop covering other people’s stuff, whitney now bob marley! sing your own songs

Jen has a big powerful voice and there lies the problem. Her voice lacks the versatility to pull of genres outside of gospel and generic r&b.

@JAN but why shud that be a problem.. isnt that why ppl loved whitney houston

    This was not good.

  12. Bart Simpson…who the hell R u? May 13, 2011

what the hell? it’s a TRIBUTE! she’s not planning on singing this song any time outside of this tribute! grown up! oh & FYI she does have songs to sing, which she did on last week for this very same show. They chose to invite her back for bob marley week and picked this song her to sing., so get over it. She sung the song for his honor & leave it at that. There isn’t anything you can do about it anyways. ~B*tch Boo Bye 2 all of you negative ppl

The fact of the matter is that the song is too low for her. Either they should have raised the song for her or she should’ve adjusted her vocals to showcase both her talents and the song. She would’ve been done a much better job singing the same song that Lauryn Hill sang at coachella: Rastaman Chant. That song would’ve allowed her to infuse her gospel roots into the reggae and she could’ve played more. She wasn’t horrible but it could’ve been much better.

Not bashing on J.. Hud, but like the first person said. J. Hud is gospel and rnb, and i don’t think she is one of those artists trying to climb out of the box. They could of chose another performer. And she does seem to do alot of covers, even playing other people in her movie roles. It’s weird. I think she is trying to do like Beyonce who kinda of did the whole cover thing to jumpstart her career. But it’s getting tired.

  15. lost1wons May 13, 2011

and by throwing Beyonce in it, I mean, Bee is another artist from our generation, who has done the whole tribute thing already. It went to overdrive that yr she performed her tribute at the Grammys.

  16. lost1wons May 13, 2011

i think though Jennifer’s interpertation, might of been chosen bcuz of her perspective, NO woman no cry, maybe becuz of her own tragedy

  17. KD May 13, 2011

She sure as hell is everywhere isn’t she…Pity that the album still isn’t moving. I guess its the curse of being a black individual in the entertainment industry. I mean apart from Bey, Rih, Alicia Keys and Mary J Blige which other black female artist is killing the charts (and I use the term killing loosely)???

That’s why I have decided to support all the black sista’s Team Black Sista’s

    it was ok…….not bad

Fantasia sing woman no cry on her set in concerts now and they said she bring that song back to life. I read that Fantasia put it down. Jennifer is overrated just like Bey, Rhi I am not going to include Mary and Alicia in the overrated part. It was brought to my attention to watch Jennifer on Idol when she was on it and she sang imagine I believe that the song name and when she sang the no heaven the eye would appear in the back ground. That I got to say that.

Foods like meat, cheese, milk, salt, grains and fish are predominately acidic.

You Simply Have to Start Drinking Healthy Smoothies.
Get started by means of browning the turkey in a skillet with a bit of
    salt and pepper.
