Never underestimate the power of the Monsters. For once again, Lady GaGa‘s legions of die hard fans have taken her straight to #1, this time on the Official UK Top 40 album Chart with her new album ‘Born This Way‘.
This marks another UK #1 album for the starlet who enjoyed the same feat with previous releases, ‘The Fame‘ and its sister album ‘The Fame Monster‘. Moreover, the feat sees the singer break British chart record.

Beating Adele’s ’21’ to this week’s top spot, GaGa also has cause to celebrate, as ‘Born’ sold an impressive 215,000 units, becoming in the process the fastest selling album released here this year.
Speaking on the achievement, GaGa said:
“I feel so honoured to have the highest first-week sales in the UK this year. I wrote the album’s first single ‘Born This Way’ in Manchester because I was so inspired by the confidence and bravery characteristic of my fans, little monsters. To the United Kingdom, thank you for believing in me.”
Adding to her ever-mounting achievements,her debut LP ‘The Fame‘ made its way back to the top ten of the chart after a whopping 124 weeks in the tally. Across the pond, the album is also expected to give the New York native’s her highest first week sales to date with an expected 1 million units sold in the US.
In other UK Chart news, Rihanna‘s ‘Loud‘ dropped down three places from its #14 position and Nicole Scherzinger‘s LP ‘Killer Love’ re-entered the chart at #38 after ten weeks, possibly as a result of the heavy rotation her single ‘Right There‘ has received in the country.
Elsewhere, Jennifer Lopez’s ‘LOVE?’ faltered even further, as it slipped down five positions to this week’s #29 spot and Chris Brown‘s ‘FAME‘ sits at #23, just one place lower than it was last week.
Perhaps her fans buying 25 copies each of her 99 cent album had something to do with it.

No, it does. I used to think that too, but Billboard counts it. Bilboard doesn’t count heavily discounted albums when the label reduces the price. Gaga’s label didn’t offer the album for 99 cents. Amazon did. So, if Gaga hits 1M this week in the US, a third of her sales will have come from that Amazon promotion. Sure, a lot of people who were going to buy the album anyway bought it from the outlet that was selling it at the cheapest price, but it would be foolish to sit here and say that a lot of people who weren’t going to buy it, wound up buying it because of the price. It would also be foolish to say that a lot of her stans didn’t buy the album multiple times like they do singles because of that price.

@BC You can listen to the songs on her vevo you tube page before you buy it. I think if you like 80s music you would probably enjoy it. A few of the songs took some getting used to though. I personally think this is her best album now. Marry The Night and Bloody Mary are my favorites for today. 🙂

And they they renew the deal on Thursday, and they sold 150,000 copies that day.

i am a rihanna, beyonce, and lady gaga stan. I think it is funny how alot of the stans for beyonce have to bash lady gaga or rihanna, and they stans for lady gaga bash bey, and riri, and the stans for rihanna bash bey, and gaga. for some reason they think by bashing the other artist that it makes their favorite artist sound better. but they are all the leading queens of pop. Born this way is an awesome album. my favorite songs are marry the night, sheiBe, Heavy metal lover, You and I, and Bloody mary. Even though there are some songs that don’t meet expectations on the album, there aren’t that many, there is only two that i personally don’t like and those are Americano, and Highway unicorn. i can’t stand americano it sucks to me but the rest of teh album is gold. beyonce’s album 4 is going to be really good. i love run the world (girls), 1+1, and end of time, and i can’t wait for best thing i never had to release on june 1. both lady gaga and beyonce’s album will go number one and everyone should know that by now, and even if her album didn’t go on sale in amazon for 99 cents it would still be number one on the billboard, but i do agree that if it didn’t go on sale for 99 cents, which lady gaga had no involvement in, that it probably would of sold less copies but no matter what it would still be number one.

Damn Gaga,this news has some riled up! I’m impressed by gaga because as much as people call her a gimmick, copycat, etc. She finds a way to really do some damage in sales…….of everything. She is one of the few that has huge sales in singles, albums and touring ( she has got to be every labels dream artist). Oh and she gets loads of attention in the media. Her team is smart! I was watching something on tv some author was talking about his book and the subject was the death of the music industry. At the end he said everyone should watch gaga because she is the new template of how a label will launch and build an artist.
This was back when fame monster was released.

I think the difference here is that BTW may reach an elite benchmark because of that Amazon promotion. If you were to subtract Rihanna’s Rated R/99 cent Amazon albums, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference in her overall debut week sales, as fewer than 10K albums were sold during that promo. While selling 700K- 950K in a debut week is phenomenal; the holy grail these days is an album that sells 1M in the US in one week. The other artists that did it, Wayne, 50, T-Swizzle, did it without having the price of their albums slashed, and you can easily argue that Gaga wouldn’t done it or come close to doing it without BTW being offered for 99 cents on Amazon.

The album will never exceed 400k in U.S with the normal price.

They are paying the difference to Gaga’s label so that they don’t lose any money. Amazon is losing money b/c they are trying to compete with itunes. Billboard doesnt count sales under 4 dollars if the record company lowers the price but interscope didnt, Amazon paid inter.. the money for the full price of the album.
Born This Way was already #1 on Amazons best seller list due to presales alone. The presale price was the full price of the album. I bought a copy off Amazon and itunes. Most of the people that bought the album at 99 cents would still have glady paid full price if they had to. Either way people wanted the album and they bought it. The Amazon deal didn’t really effect album sales much anyway b/c people still would have bought it. Besides, it was only the standard edition that they sold for that price and many people bought the special edition. Haters gonna hate I guess.
