Official: Paula Abdul Completes Lackluster X Factor USA Line-Up

Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Katy Perry. Just a few of the names touted to join the judging panel of the X Factor USA. However, after scoring an own-goal signing up Pop nonentity Cheryl Cole, the show’s producer’s have arguably made another faux pas by looking backward and not forward.

For, former American Idol judge Paula Abdul has been officially unveiled as the fourth and final judge on the Fox show.

Full story below…

With filmed auditions set to commence today, confirmation of the show’s last judge was imminent; with speculation put to rest upon Abdul’s arrival at the LA shoot just moments ago (click here for pic)

The 48 year old joins Cowell, LA Reid, and British singer Cheryl Cole on the judging panel. Pop vixen Nicole Scherzinger and UK presenter Steve Jones are to host.

First airing in the UK in 2004, the X Factor quickly established itself as the most watched entertainment series here, successfully launching the careers of Leona Lewis, JLS, and Alexandra Burke. Its US incarnation kicks off this Fall on Fox.

Update:

Fox have released an official press release with words from Simon Cowell and Abdul.

Speaking on reuniting with the Paula, Cowell said: “This show would never have been the same without Paula and I can’t believe I am saying this – I have missed her a lot, and I am thrilled she’s on the show.

With Abdul adding: “I am excited beyond words to be a part of THE X FACTOR.  I couldn’t be happier to bring my love for cultivating talent and performance to such a wildly anticipated show. I’m looking forward to being back with the FOX/FremantleMedia family and know that it will be an extraordinary journey — we’re going to have a blast.  I’m also delighted and grateful to be sitting next to Simon again…but you might want to check back with me in a week or two!”

————————-

Though I’ll, no doubt, be watching, I can’t but get a flavour of flop from the show at the moment. Whether it’ll wow when it debuts this Fall will be interesting to see. Very.

I don’t understand why Rihanna was even asked and this Cheryl Cole girl. What the hell is Simon doing/was thinking. I love Paula and i’m glad she’s gonna be a judge.

  5. Scott May 8, 2011

Dont care wll not be watching although stpid Simon needs to start promoting some of his own acts from Syco rather than useless Cheryl.

  6. Bey’knight May 8, 2011

Did simon really think he could get girls like rihanna or katy. Their careers are on highs now

The only thing tempting me to watch is steve jones n paula but its hard to relate to theshow when its on another continent entirely

Well Paula Abdul is a great addition, more Simon vs. Paula action. Unlike Cheryl Cole Paula will not be submissive to Simon as we have seen on Idol. I would’ve rather Mariah Carey over Cheryl Cole, but I understand why she is not doing it since she just had her chillin.

They could’ve gotten someone more like Whitney Houston (I know). I think she would’ve made an excellent judge and would bring the sassiness, experience, & realness to the show.

Cheryl is going to be totally overshadowed. America cares about Simon and Paula, not Simon and Cheryl.

Lackluster indeed! I think Simon & Abdul are okay but Cole & L.A. Reid?
AI and The Voice are having massive impact on the ratings so I don’t see how another singing competition show will be able to top that. I’ll give it a shot and see what’s all about but my expectations are really low.

lackluster? Simon and Paula made American Idol what it was and i’m sure they will do the same for X Factor. American Idol judges are too boring

Simon is as predictable as his redundant wardrobe! Why does he want to only work with people he’s been with before, most of which the level of actual talent is DEBATABLE . I didn’t think Paula was useful on AI don’t know what shell add to X factor. He better hope the talent ( or drama) is high to keep people interested. Boo on most of the panel!

    * she’ll not shell

  22. James May 9, 2011

I think Cheryl Cole will do just fine on this show. I am VERY happy with the lineup of judges on the US version of X Factor. They really couldn’t have chosen anyone better.

  23. David May 9, 2011

Get your facts right for a start it would help X factor didn’t start in 2006 – it started in 2004

  24. annie! :] May 9, 2011

lackluster? Simon and Paula MADE American Idol, L.A. Reid seems like he’ll be pretty tough on the contestants, and idk about Cheryl but if Simon wants to bring her back she must be a great judge as well. i honestly think this will do way better than The Voice and it’ll definitely demolish American Idol. idk what you guys are talking about… i can’t wait!

side note: i LOVE Cheryl’s outfit!! the colors together look great =)

  25. SEBSEB May 9, 2011

I think since they are starting a new show (so to speak, as it is airing for the first time in the states) Cheryl Cole should of just been left to the UK X FActor..
The show would have benefited from some of the other rumoured stars like Katy Perry and Nicole Scherzinger on the panel instead of presenting..
Oh well.. It will be very interesting to see how it all turns out.

    @UGH

Rihanna was asked because she has the X factor.

Her image was used in the promo shots. Like her or not there is no denying that she has something special about her. Its not about her being cute why she is famous because lots of cute girls who can outsing Rihanna have failed to make it big.

You need star quality and Rihanna exudes it.
