WE all know that Kelly can actually SING, so if she lip-synced, why the hell should it matter? Plus, she didn’t even lip-synch the whole thing! The last half of the performance you could really tell she was singing and she still sounded amazing! I loved every bit of this performance. For someone who dislikes literately every female artist other than Beyonce it is amazing how much you care about their performances.
She did good…but let’s not act like she didn’t lip-sync…even her speaking parts were…I don’t think her mic was even on…one time she spoke “sing it ya’ll” and her mic wasn’t to her mouth and at the end she tried to speak and the mic was off…
I think Kelly improved since Like This from years ago. Though, I’m baffled by a lot of the blogs and outlets like Billboard. Last week, everyone wanted her to shine. Today, she’s a Janet rip off that’s oversexed. People are fickle with it. The only thing I can say is I don’t know why BET had her come in with Trey instead of on her own. It would’ve probably benefited her more if she haf a set by herself and did her new song. I would have liked to see that. Though the Chris Brown controversy is overshadowing not only her performance but the show in general. Which was poorly produced and the worst I’ve seen. There were great performances but the viewers choice mixup, low budget production, lame presenters and the audience was lame as hell. The only thing I liked was Patti and her tribute, Kevin’s Real Househusbands.
@TheTruth, you need to remember what music is about. MUSIC. Dancing is merely an attribute, more of something that contributes to a performance. Hell, in todays industry, sometimes “dancing” is more important than actual vocal performance, but don’t get it twisted. On top of that, Kelly performed her lip sync to her own vocals. Whether it was a lip sync or not, you can’t say that the vocal performance was a mess because it was extremely good. So credit has to be given somewhere. Does anybody remember when Mike J used to lip sync his performances? Hell, even said, “It’s me singing so I don’t have to prove anything else.” SMDH. Congrats Kelly and use the negativity for the upcoming project, because whether it’s good or bad, it’s creating more buzz. #BOOM

Yes, the performance was good, but she wasn’t singing live. I’m okay with that because she was dancing. Let’s not forget that there were plenty of shows we’ve seen on TGJ, where she doesn’t move that much and still sounds breathy, while struggling through the

Finally Bey does promote this woman. She mentioned her last at the Billboard awards, when she received her Millenium award and has done this several times throughout her career. She even mentioned LeToya and Latavia – give it a rest!

Kelly have done some decent DC3 live shows, but for everyone of those I’ve seen just as many bad ones. You guys pretend that everyone wasn’t concerned about how well should would do because of all the stuff we’ve seen her doing since Commander.
Yes, the performance was good, but she wasn’t singing live. I’m okay with that because she was dancing. Let’s not forget that there were plenty of shows we’ve seen on TGJ, where she doesn’t move that much and still sounds breathy, while struggling through the
song.
Mathew and Bey didn’t hold Kelly down. Kelly held Kelly down, this is her 3rd solo album – Bey nor Mathew sung “Like This” at the BET 2006 awards and sounding like crap! What did you guys want them to do – hold her hand beg for people to accept her?
Finally Bey does promote this woman. She mentioned her last at the Billboard awards, when she received her Millenium award and has done this several times throughout her career. She even mentioned LeToya and Latavia – give it a rest!
Even after saying all this, I’m happy for Kelly. I just don’t get the “I get so lonely” feel to her performance(without mixing in a something to honor Janet). If this was Bey, lawd… Still good for Kelly Rowland, she did fantastic!

Kelly did an incredible job and quite frankly people should STFU another using pre-recorded vocals. Every artists done it at some point in their career. I think now that she has done it and done it well, she needs to now prove moving forward that she can perform with the same tenacity and confidence while singing live. It’s important for her to eventually that way CONSISTENTLY!

I understand what you’re saying, and yes everyone including Beyonce has used pre-recorded vocals, but Kelly does eventually have to prove that she can sing good live while still dancing and entertaining the audience, something that Beyonce has proved a million times since she went solo. Kelly is cool & everything, i absolutely LOVED Commander, Motivation is still growing on me but its a nice song.
My issue is that when an artist is performing on stage they need to give it their ALL, and my definition of that is LIVE vocals and some choreography if it fits the song. Kelly gave me the choreography but not the Live vocals, so im not too impressed. if that makes me a “hater” then so be it.
If you’re going to swaggerjack Janet Jackson that hard, at least own it. That performance was mediocre at best. Just a lot of gyrating we’ve seen time and again.

Kelly’s performance from her outfit to the dance routine was a direct copy of what Janet did at the Soul Train Awards 1998 for I Get So Lonely. TheMan4u Kelly was not great. All the people you listed as lipping are proven solo acts and headliners. All of those women have already sang live numerous times so a performance from would not establish them like Kelly would need. Kelly is 3 albums deep and has yet been able to become a headliner because she lacks the IT factor like those other women do.
Kelly did her thing last night! Period. We’re so used to her being more laid back when it comes to her performances, so this was quite surprising to see. If that’s the case, then call out some of the other artists who performed and didn’t have a live band backing them up. The music itself may have been pre-recorded, but I truly believe that she sang to the music herself. That didn’t sound like lip synching to me. The bottom line is……the woman did a good job! Had she just stood there in one spot or walked back and forth on stage, people would have been calling her performance “boring” or saying that she lacked, “stage presence”. But, she sang the song and danced. Now, people are going to find something else to complain about with her performance. Bump that Kelly…..you did your s***!

This ratched BET awards is laughable. If they want to promote her, they need to have more appearances in the States. Motivation probably could have been a #1 pop hit if she had better promotion. @Sheree – I understand where you’re coming from. It may come across as “stanning”, but what I really think it is, is that people didn’t expect her to do as well as she did last night. If you look at past Kelly Rowland performances, she was pretty laid back and “safe” when it came to being on stage and doing her thing. I guess people wanted to see if she really had it in her to break out of that mold of being “safe” and “comfortable” when it comes to performing. She showed a side of herself last night that was never seen before and I think that’s why everyone is so up in arms about it. She was more “confident” and “s***”. When have you ever seen Kelly perform like this? Besides, the song is called, “Motivation”. She had to bring it! People have always called Kelly, “boring” or that she lacked “stage presence”. With a sensual song like, “Motivation”, she had to prove herself. And, I think she did an excellent job. You’re right in the fact that she is no Michael Jackson. If she was lip synching, I don’t see a problem. With Beyonce, she sings live because she has a VERY different voice. It’s operatic, and, as much as I respect her, she does yell a lot and vibrate her voice. It’s not ALWAYS “singing” but that’s Bey’s style. It’s allows her to put on an amazing show.
Kelly’s voice is more traditional, even more like a Whitney sometimes in her tone. She also does WAY different choreography than Beyonce. She’s not doing uber sext hair swinging, energetic/ Tina Turner choreography. She’s hitting precise Janet-esque moves.
All of these difference need to be considered and when you consider them it makes sense for her to lip synch this performance. She CAN sing so it’s a non-issue. She put on a show. Period. It was wonderful and people are steadily trying to take that away from her because they feel threatened. NO ONE can threaten Beyonce, so it would be nice if people could just give credit, or say why they didn’t like it without stanning.

Beyonce has also done some of Janet’s moves too. Remember her live performance of, “Ring The Alarm”? She had a group of female dancers backing her up, they all had on what looked like trench coats and they were doing plenty of moves that looked very similar to Janet’s moves from, “Rhythm Nation”? Tell me you don’t remember that? Everyone was cool with that. Hell, you even had some folks thinking that she made the dances moves up herself! *serious side eye*. The difference between Beyonce and other artists, is that the other artists don’t deny that they’ve been influenced by others when it comes to their performances. But, Bey on the other hand, likes to make everyone think that she’s “original” and comes up with these ideas on her own. If anyone were to ask Kelly if she was inspired by Janet Jackson for that performance, I doubt that she would lie and say, “No, I wasn’t”. She would give credit where it’s due. But, Bey on the other hand likes to make people believe that she’s “fresh”, “new” and “original” with her ideas sometimes.
