Introducing…Kreayshawn

Last month, Bay Area rapper Kreayshawn set the blogosphere ablaze with the release of her music video “Gucci Gucci”. A few weeks later, she had the internet talking again. That time, about the one million dollar record deal she’d just signed.

After a bidding war of sorts, Columbia Records, part of Sony Music Entertainment got Kreayshawn to sign on the dotted lines. Along with directing/editing videos for herself, fellow West Coast rapper Lil’ B, and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the female emcee has drawn comparisons to Lady GaGa, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, and Lil’ B’s “swag movement”. Her polarizing presence has been the subject of intense debate, especially between hip-hop enthusiasts. This recent signing, is sure to be the proverbial fan to this fiery discussion. Yet, in the modern pop landscape, who are you if you don’t have people talking, right?

Kreayshawn scored a local hit with her song ‘Bumpin Bumpin’ last year, now the rapper is in the studio prepping her major label debut.

…is that a cheeseburger on her arm? Basic b**** indeed. En, on the fence with her. She’s getting a lot of attention partly because she is white trying to do hip-hop, listened to the ‘Gucci Gucci’ several times and found the song and video amateurish.

Nicki, Gaga, even Ke$ha give me a spark Krea doesn’t.

  7. Hippie June 28, 2011

The only thing I dont like is the glorification of drug use (too cliched for me). Nonetheless, best of luck to you. It’s always good to see someone different enter the game.

    Boo b****, boo….

  10. King B June 28, 2011

I cannot believe that this UTTERLY UNtalented gutter trash had major labels FIGHTING to sign her when so many genuinely talented musicians out there that could never get a record exec to look their way. The music industry has become as respectable as politics these days, and my disdain for it grows even more.

    @ Be Better, Not “Bitter”:

Right? I’ve already lost respect for this site a LONG time ago, but if they’re gonna put this b**** on a pedestal whilst continuing to bash Rihanna for lacking talent, I swear I will be DONE with TGJ. Just DONE. This is where I draw the f****** line.

    @ Misfit:

    LMAO!!!

  11. True Blue June 28, 2011

Oh, and anyone who DARES to compare this chick to Lady Gaga deserves to be shot by a firing squad. Like, no. It’s a blasphemy to even put them in the same thought. The differences are too f****** obvious to even explain.

  12. True Blue June 28, 2011

    * to even have to explain.

  13. Flohno June 28, 2011

Are record labels that stupid? It took how many years before Nicki Minaj got a record deal, but this girl gets one after 1 song? I don’t know anyone who genuinely likes this song. Everyone I know who has this song, likes it ironically and will not be spending a dime on this girl.

  14. Misfit June 28, 2011

    @ King B(True Blue)

Co-sign on your thoughts. It’s a sad state of affairs. The sad thing is that this chick will probably sell…

  15. Pappzd Magazine June 28, 2011

Kreayshawn is definitely umm..different *side eye* but i bet she will have a following soon. Younger people seem to be into this kind of music now so record labels see big cash with her.

Oh look, a white girl playing dress up. And omg, she talks like a black man! Isn’t she awesome?

Her appropriative swag is yet another reminder of how little black women are valued in our society, even in genres we co-create. In a moment where cool is synonymous with swag, a particular manifestation of black masculinity, Kreayshawn’s dismissiveness and denigration of black women animate her success.

In her video “Gucci Gucci”, she has a black girl’s hair cut and color with black men all around her as she “raps” about stealing b******, smoking blunts, and realness. It’s catchy, but there’s no substance. She “raps” about being “different from them other black girls,” and calls other women b****** and h***, as if she’s somehow exempt from via her whiteness.

This whole misogynoir thing from Lil B/Odd Future/La hipster needs to stop. But of course, the white male critics LOVE it.

Appropriation at its finest–no thank you.

  19. lola June 28, 2011

WTF is this sh*t? Not only can she not rap, the beats suck! It’s funny how people are going hard on this chick when she really can make it in the music industry and become a success. Look at Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kesha, Lady Gaga, Britney, and JLo. They all can’t sing or dance and have little talent, but managed to sell millions of albums and singles and get paid. All she needs is hot ass beats and she can trick people into buying her sh*t. BTW, b*tch is ugly as hell and looks like Lady Gaga!

  20. bam bam June 28, 2011

I like Gucci Gucci but other than that shes the female version of Gucci Mane and should be put out to pasture.

    Americas Top Satanic Countdown

  22. HALF AMAZIN June 28, 2011

I cry for the death of hip hop but understand why everyone wants a check. Even in the world of gimmicks there is something better than this. Shes white, female, and a “rapper” so I get the angle……….but at least make it believable. I think she’s dumb, wrong emotion.

  23. lol June 28, 2011

its obvious that theses record companies are trying to sell these “black” -washed white artist to white middle american tweens . i really cant blame these record companies though all they care about is a dollar not real music plus it worked before see:elvis presley,Justin Timberlake ,Justin bieber

  24. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN June 28, 2011

@Scott Theres no such thing as black music!! f*** off!! Music is open to any race.. you idiot

  25. TAYLOR SWIFTS NUMBER 1 FAN June 28, 2011

Btw.. The song is a load of s***, but still… colour shouldnt a barrier to making music! she shouldnt be judged on her colour… as some people have… judge her on her music.

  26. diamond June 28, 2011

HAHAHA…um I hate to say it but this gotta be another over-hyped gimmick in the works.

  27. tyler June 29, 2011

im black but i come to find that blacks are the most racist people on earth,.

    1. hip hop is NOT our music.

    2. pop and rock is not white folks music

    3. music belongs to everyone

this is a free f****** country. damn. people so f***** stupid. dumb assess. lmfaoo

  28. BitchIcantevenspellwelfare June 29, 2011

@TYLER, you are fundamentally off the mark but that typically happens when people attempt to flex their “post-racial,” “we are all the same,” “we are the world” muscles.

First, not a simple poster stated that “hip hip was OUR music.” You made that up. However, the fact remains that African Americans did, in fact, create hip hop music in the Bronx, NY in the last 1970’s. That’s a fact. If people choose to critique the ways in which this music has been used or misused by various people, not just white people, that is something that you.will.deal.with.

Secondly, African American people did, in fact, create rock and roll music. For a proper critique, see @ LOL’s comment.

Thirdly, music does, in fact, belong to everyone. However, the critique of Kreayshawn has very little to with the egalitarianism of music. it has more to do with what people are DOING with the music. No one is attempting to “stop” Kreayshawn from performing whatever ridiculousness she is attempting to perform. Have at it I say. However, she will not be exempt from criticism for her “particular” style of performance.

Finally, you should probably learn the real definition of “racism.” None of the criticism of Kreayshawn can be called “racist.” You, in fact, are simply thinking lazily.

Why is every blog that post about this stupid girl forgetting to mention that she uses the N-word and has admitted to it? I hate blogs for their biased stories! She probably paid this sham site to promote her or her record label did and that would explain why they won’t talk about the fact that she uses the n-word!

It will never be okay for white people to use that word and to make it worst this “creature” is using a word that’s destroying our communities and yet she got signed by a major label and is making money for being ignorant!

We all know the only reason she is getting signed is because of the fact that she’s white!
