One week after its unavoidable debut on the Billboard 200 with 1.1 million copies sold in the US, Lady GaGa‘s ‘Born This Way‘ remains at the top of the album chart for a second week in a row.

With an impressive 174,000 units sold this week alone, ‘Born’ sits 29 places above Rihanna‘s ‘Loud’ and 33 spots above Britney Spears’ ‘Femme Fatale’.
The record which has sold 2 million copies across the globe to date, saw the native New Yorker score her biggest first week sales figure to date, surpassing the achievements of debut album ‘The Fame’ and sophomore effort ‘The Fame Monster’.
Elsewhere on the chart, Adele‘s ‘21‘ seems to have taken permanent residence in the Top 10 now sitting at the #3 position.
Like Ms.Germanotta, Adele’s latest album has encouraged the sales of a previous release. The Brit’s first effort ‘19‘ saw reemerged commercially with ’21’s release and now resides interestingly at #21 after 84 weeks on the chart.
GaGa’s ‘The Fame’ now sits sweet at #16 after debuting on Billboard 135 weeks ago.

@ #1queengaga – I was a gaga fan myself, but I hate this album. It’s horrible. As a fan of music, I try not to get blindsided with the media portrayal of an artist, and actually listen to the end product, and Born This Way the single was the ONLY remotely sane song on her album, and even then it was clouded in too much eccentricity to be taken seriously, and that is her overall problem, anyone with half a brain can see that the eccentricity that she has chosen to become her key staple is standing in HER way of being an artist. I don’t like the album because as any musician knows its about musical brand recognition, you are always more than welcome to update the sounds and give it some new life, but if brand recognition was not the first thing to be addressed on a sophomore album set, and it totally alienated all of her intelligent audience, who can see past the hype and look toward good music. Lady Gaga is an amazingly talented artist, but the presentation this round is annoying, invasive, and offensive. She needs to calm down, and showcase her abilities better, but its okay because she’s not the only one. [Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, etc]

Femme Fatale is Different, Unique, and Creative w/o the intention of it even being that way, Just the Pop greatness of Britney. With Born This Way you can totally tell she was trying her hardest to make something different and crazy when half of the crap is an ultimate FAIL. Gaga tries TEW hard IMO.

Um….when Backstreet Boys, Eminem, Britney and Nsync were selling 1-2 million in their first week 10+ years ago, illegal downloading (remember Napster?) was at its PEAK. Since the advent of iTunes, illegal downloading has become more controlled. So that excuse doesn’t wash. Gaga’s 2nd week sales have basically put a spotlight on how inflated her hype tends to be. The media, her press junkets and annoying ass fans blow a smokescreen to make her appear more in demand than she is.

Big drop, I expected a drop but wasn’t sure how steep it was going to be. All this talk about full price vs discount is an interesting one. Albums are discounted all the time, we can’t possibly know which retailer is doing something like that. Years ago I would wonder how Carrie underwoods ” some hearts” cd was still selling. It had been out long enough that anyone who wanted it should have had it. I was in target and saw it was $5, then I realized that’s probably one tactic used to keep sales afloat. It was so cheap if you like a few songs it’s “worth” getting.
We will never know every tactic but they all use it. Gaga’s teAm will probably figure a way to keep her sales afloat, like universal music group , sony, etc do with all of bigger sellers. Entertainment is all smoke and mirrors, no one is probably legitimately as successful as they are made out to be.
The saddest thing is that 174,000 copies sold across the country got the #1 spot. All of the buying public in the US is way bigger than that, let’s not even talk about global sales because it’s even more depressing for artists and labels. Some cities have over 1 million people and most artists are lucky to get to 1 million in sales. Damn.

That’s the the steepest drop-off in sales, expressed in a percentage basis, of any of the 17 albums that sold 1 million units in a week in Nielsen SoundScan history.

Wow 174,000 is a huge decline. I honestly expected her to sell 300k. This 2nd week total has me convinced that her first week numbers were inflated. I’ll say it again, this brain washing in making Gaga seem like she’s the most powerful artist to start a craze over her is just so forced. I believe that everything is inflated with her, from album sales to youtube views. I’ve just never seen a real “Queen of pop” or Queen of anything resort to these measures to seem like their all the things they claim to be (best voice in pop music, artist with the best album of the decade, the artist with an album that will “change lives” , etc). She needs so much assistance and the hype is growing old. BTW, has 2 decent tracks on it. It’s ridiculous that the awful singles she’s dropped so far have been shoved down our throats.
