It appears that someone at the Parents Television Council has declared a vendetta against Pop star Rihanna.
For no more than two weeks after they branded her Billboard Music Award performance a ‘stripper show’, the board have come out against her video for new single ‘Man Down‘.

TMZ report that the PTC have branded the video as a ‘cold, calculated execution of murder’, going onto declare, “If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass”.
Whilst the concept for the video was destined to raise eyebrows, the mentioning of Chris Brown’s name in the PTC’s official statement will have many a Ms.Fenty fan questioning the organization’s true motives. Say what we do about the model, it’s also not a good look to kick a dead horse (the ‘incident’) for publicity. SMH! I just KNEW this was gonna be controversial! I freaking knew it! I guess I can understand the PTC point, where children shouldn’t see violence protrayed by anyone man or woman, especially since 106 obviously caters to a young audience, but when I saw the video for the first time on 106, I noticed that they edited the blood out when she shot him. I think they could possibly just cut the murder scene out all together and go straight to when the music starts. They can edit the scenes at the end too where it eludes to r***. The majority of the video doesn’t have anything risque in it at all. Maybe if they only show the video at night where young kids are asleep and can’t view it.
Even if they don’t show the video on TV at all, parents should know that their kids could always watch that s*** online. It’s impossible to censor your kids from everything! Parents just have to realize that and get over it!

A large part of Rihanna’s audience is young and female and I personally didn’t get an empowerment vibe from the video even tho I get that’s what was intended. The only reason why the spokesperson would even mention CB in the same sentence as Ri is because of the incident, because based on sales, chart positions, media profiles, and endorsements, CB sure as hell aint anywhere near Ri’s lane. They are not contemporaries, in the least. That analogy from the PTC is suggesting that sexism is to blame for Rihanna being able shoot someone in a video, while CB wouldn’t get away with doing the same, conveniently overlooking the fact that Rihanna has no felony assault record and CB does. As a parent, I do monitor what my teenage son watch under my control, but I’m not with him 24/7. I know he is exposed to many things that I may not approve of…thus I do look for programs geared towards teenagers to sensor their programs; at least place a disclaimer at the beginning and end of the video especially if this is in fact an awareness video. I don’t hold anyone responsible for what my child may or may not see on tv because he does not live in a bubble, this is the real world. Case in point, a disclaimer should be on any video that is thought to be of “shock value” or for better description “awareness” and even a hotline for someone that may be in need. Marsha Ambrosa did that in her Far Away video.
