New Song: Jojo – ‘Limbo’

Published: Thursday 23rd Jun 2011 by Rashad

While Jojo’s ‘Jumping Trains’ album is revving up for its future release, her vocals soar in the recently leaked track ‘Limbo’.  The ‘Too Little Too Late’ singer finds herself channeling her inner Kelly Clarkson in a tune that sounds very reminiscent of the American Idol alum’s hit ‘Breakaway’.  Take a listen after the jump…

If ‘Limbo’ will make the final cut has yet to be determined.  But, to say that Ms. Levesque’s vocals are on point in this would be a grave understatement.  While such has always been the case for the 20-year-old singer, to hear maturity in a voice that was already defined beyond its years is a welcomed rarity.  Here’s hoping that ‘Jumping Trains’ gives the singer the jump her career deservedly needs.

LOVE JoJo — Can’t wait for her new album!!! She made a statement on Twitter about ‘Limbo’ being leaked:

“The latest in a series of RIDICULOUS LEAKS is “Limbo”. Produced by Sham & Motesart. We work hard & we LOVE what we do. Please respect music.”

  2. TEAMJOJO June 23, 2011

I’m a huge JoJo fan, but I’m not really feeling the Pop sound for JoJo. It doesn’t fit her voice to me at all. I would love to hear a smooth R&B sound from her. I mean she is Pop to, but this is too poppy. This isn’t gonna be on the album and I’m glad it isn’t. This sounds like a mixture of her songs Fly away, expectional and kelly clarkson’s breakaway. The lyrics are beautiful in this song though.

  3. perhaps June 23, 2011

I LOVE Jo and will cop the album when it comes on but I do not like this song.

  4. ChrisJ June 23, 2011

    her voice is amazing

  5. perhaps June 23, 2011

then again maybe its a grower

  6. iahatemyles June 23, 2011

    JOJO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  7. Gumaro June 23, 2011

I hope JoJo reads this. I went to see her perform last night at RNBLive in Hollywood and she ONLY performed two songs. I thought it was going to be a performance!? Not a show up, sing one song, and bounce.

That venue was DISGUSTINGLY packed, no where to stand unless you would spot 300.00 for a bottle, F*** NO. I am so disappointed in her management for this B*******. She should not tweet that she is “performing” and make it more clear that she will sing one or two songs. Something she needs to think about, I was so pissed. She about to lose HARDCORE, since Day 1, fans if she keeps up this mess.

  8. KAT DELUNA FAN June 23, 2011

I like it,Jojo is a real good singer and I wish her luck

a collabo with Kat will be interesting

SD:Watch ppl climb on the JOJOBANDWAGON with her she scores a #1 album or single smh at blog readers

    fake as japanese toys

…honestly, I hate to admit this…but after I heard her remix to Drake’s “Marvin’s Room”, she caught my interest. I can’t wait for her album, “Jumping Trains” will be released this fall, her vocals are #beat, and I believe she’s going to make a statement in the industry when she blows up!… ♥ THIS SONG!

  10. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) June 23, 2011

HER VOCALS ARE INSANE!!!!!OUT OF THIS WORLD!! will cop this album on the first day of the release week!!!!!!!! TALENT SHOULD BE SUPPORTED AND BROUGHT BACK…
(In the song, she showed off a bit more than needed, but since it’s not going to be on the album, a little vocal playing around is cool)

  11. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) June 23, 2011

@GUMARO, Sorry to hear what happened…I would be pissed off too.But I think that what JoJo has in store will compensate for the R N’B LIVE situation

  12. Erika June 23, 2011

I disagree with all these comments. This song is absolutely beautiful and I’ll be sad if it doesnt make the album. This shows off her beautiful voice and I prefer jojo’s pop sound. Anything she sings is good but songs like this can really jump start her career again coz they’re more mainstream and thats not a bad things at all. RnB doesnt show off her voice as much… this song is epic n I’d buy it.

  13. Katrina Carter June 23, 2011

Why does she insist on doing these pop rock joints??

  14. AndySaysSmile June 23, 2011

Why this girl is so underrated I have no f****** idea! People need to ‘get her’ because this is real talent!

  15. June 23, 2011

I disagree. Her Voice sounds better with R&B Neo-Soul. Kinda like that Whenever you’re around cover she did months ago . The music in this song is overpowering her voice. JoJo has more of an angelic voice, but it sounds like she is shouting over the music in this song. She has so much soul, but I’m starting to think she is going in a Pop/Rock direction. Pop/Rock doesn’t fit her voice. I’m still gonna get Jumping Trains because I’m a fan, but not of this song that much. Maybe it will grow on me.

  16. JAYDEN June 23, 2011

i hate it when people complain about the “pop rock” sound.
STOP being ignorant and venture and respect different musical sounds.
JoJo has a crossover appeal to her music regardless.
And it dosent matter of the instrumental background. An R&B track could be placed below her vocals and i would still love this song just as much because of her VOCALS. Her emotional delivery really brings chills to my spine.

I LOVE the other chick, but there has been NO promo of the track and I think it could do good in the top 40. Regardless Im excited for Jumping Trains

  17. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) June 23, 2011

BTW, Where is the video for “The Other Chick”?? A picture from the set has surfaced for more than 2 months…

  18. Chile Please!! June 23, 2011

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassss!! She betta sang….she killed this!!!! Let’s hear Beyawnce slay a song like this without all that grunting & growling on her *** -4 *** album. Werk JoJo…..runs, power, control……excellent. ****Spins & Falls into a Dip****

  19. TEAMJOJO June 23, 2011

@asap I don’t know. They don’t have release dates for anything yet

  20. MaZ June 23, 2011

Is it the only recent picture you have??

  21. TheREDDBlogger June 23, 2011

I am a huge Jojo fan, and while I do love all of her music, I would prefer her voice for R&B rather than pop. Her voice is so soulful, she could be the next Teena Marie with the right management and image. Her vocals in this song are amazing and so are the lyrics, but it’s a certain emotion that you hear in her voice when she sings a soulful R&B song. Like the Jill Scott “Whenever You’re Around” cover, her extreme vocal ability is showcased more in R&B/Soul type of music. The song is pretty good, just not my preference.

  22. mk June 23, 2011

The emotion in her voice, wow

  23. Teflon Boy June 23, 2011

I would have to agree with the majority, Jojo is a sick singer…, actually she’s one of the best in the game right now but more often than not her voice is ‘over-mixed’ and buried beneath over-wrought production in her actual music. She slayed ‘Whenever You’re Around’ because you could actually hear her unliek when she’s recorded and mixed to sound like a vocoded tween.

  24. aisha June 23, 2011

i know right, like what is wrong w/ her, this sounds like Clarkson’s song! but Girl can sing!

  25. ヅ•·.·´¯`·.·•-ΛALEXISR-Bahamas♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ★ ☆ ✰ T.I.P.•·.·´¯`·.·•ヅ June 23, 2011

    Vocals are insane.

  26. I don’t give a f*** June 23, 2011

I love JoJo and her voice. But I have a couple of issues with her…one is that she’s singing all of these pop records. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan, but it’s songs like this I might skip over if it was on an album. She can sing her ass off when covering (other people’s) R&B tracks…but her own s*** sounds….blah. JoJo….change up your style. Don’t change who you are, just switch up some things and maybe you’ll get the recognition you need. She’s really talented, but man…oh well…

  27. Dunk June 23, 2011

This song is amazing and her vocals are f****** insane, she has got back on the map now with her superb version of Marvins Room , killing it every where, this track showcases that she will be the voice of her generations

  28. ItsTT June 24, 2011

Crazy vocals!! I love this track, but it sounds low quality. Hopefully a mastered version will pop up soon.

  29. VA STAND UP!! June 24, 2011

Damn, her vocals are amazing on this! I knew she could sing but I didn’t know her voice was this powerful. Her vocals have really matured over the years. Even though she sounds great, I’m not crazy about the song. I would expect her to do some pop songs, but I do think her voice is more suited for r&b.

It sucks her matterial is leaking but it seems like that happens a LOT these days to a lot artist. People really don’t respect the hardwork anymore!

I was skeptical at first but it really does seem like her album is gonna actually be released. We have been hearing from her a lot lately. I like most of what I’ve heard so far & I hope she has a solid team around her. Her promo is gonna need to be strong too.

I’m rooting for you JoJo! Good luck!

  30. Diamond June 24, 2011

Who cares if she sings pop? Do you people even know what pop is? It means popular. It’s technically not even a musical genre. Basic people have turned into a genre just because it is considered something of a typical sound. But it really doesn’t mean anything. Jojo is versatile. She can sing anything. Rock, hiphop, jazz, funk….rly don’t matter. She has the type of voice they can blow me away.

  31. that_lala June 24, 2011

    love her vocals

  32. Carissa June 24, 2011

    @GUMARO
You should be happy you even got to see such talent live. SHUT UP!!!

  33. automatic7aubrey June 24, 2011

So what if she does a pop album, she deosent have to stick in one genre she is a versatile artist. She needs a big comeback and getting it in popular music is whats going to help that. Im rooting for her been a fan since the beginning.
    @GUMARO
A perfomance dosnet mean a whole concert, it means just that a performance when they say such and such is performing on this award show most likely they will be singing one song, so you got an extra one.

  34. credits June 24, 2011

the melody sounds amazingly similar to kelly clarkson’s song. Almost too similar….

  35. Gumaro June 24, 2011

Man! You guys were not there and know what a mess the venue was, I am sure anyone wouldn’t be having it! I love JoJo but I drove far and it was NOT worth the tired boy without a heart song she has been performing ALL THE TIME! Its my least favorite song on her mixtape.

  36. June 24, 2011

JoJo has always been Pop/R&B, but songs like This and The Other Chick is Pop/Rock. No one has a problem with her doing Pop music, but this song just isn’t JoJo. I’ve always been a fan since 2004, but this isn’t a JoJo style song. JoJo is verstalie artist. She sings Pop, R&b, Jazz, Rock, neo-soul and Hip hop. @I don’t give a F*** I agree with some on things you said. She needs to be more consistent. She has fans of all races. Her Mixtape was hot and her Marvin’s room cover was hot, but when I hear this I’m like blah….. I can’t be quick to judge because I need to hear the album first. JoJo is so underrated and I want her to blow up and be very success this Era. Good Luck to her. 🙂

  37. June 24, 2011

@Gumaro I’m sorry but you should be happy that you got to even see her perform live. Many fans would love to see her sing anything live because I know I would.

  38. Legendtina4life June 24, 2011

    I dont like pop/rock music sooo…..

  39. YOOSONDALOOSE June 24, 2011

    I Love it!

  40. lola June 24, 2011

OMG are you guys serious about liking this track? She sounds a hot mess! She’s screaming the freaking chorus!!! She has a pretty tone and a nice voice, but she’s definitely not one of the best singers in the music biz, I mean she beats Rihanna, Katy, Gaga, Kesha, Britney and JNO, but she’s not even on Jordan Sparks or Kelly Clarkson’s level. She sounds like a pop Teairra Mari. I actually think the pop sounds works better for her. She came out doing pop with a mix of R&B. I always didn’t like her trying to do “real” R&B because she comes off as an imitator. The only white people who didn’y come off that way are Joss Stone, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, ect.

  41. Kaylen June 24, 2011

It’s no surprise the comments are favored towards Jo Jo doing R&B music on this blog. since this is an urban leaning blog.

    a) The 2 HUGE global hits Jo Jo had were Pop/Rock records (Leave & Too Little Too Late) so she has more commercial success doing pop music.

    b) she said this song is not going to be on the album, so if it wasn’t good enough to be on the album then it doesn’t need to be judged like it is the single

    c) Her problem is Blackground Records. As long as they are involved with her, her career will never take off. They are clueless and a bunch of street thugs. This poor girl should have done her homework and never signed with them. Oh well….I love her though and wish her the best of luck

  42. Libra June 24, 2011

The british soul singers you listed don’t sing american R&B so I wouldn’t even compare Jojo with them. Jojo, Tynisha Keli, Jessie J and Krys Ivory sing American R&B. I like Amy but Joss Stone is the fakest soul singer. She has the most unauthentic and contrived soulful voice of all the white females who have tackled soul.

Back to Jojo, real r&b fits her better than pop and her r&b fans know this. I don’t like her singing pop/rock so I’m glad this song won’t be on the album.

  43. Libra June 24, 2011

I understand your point, but Leave (Get Out) and Too Little Too Late were pop/r&b with guitar riffs. Limbo and the Other Chick are pop/rock. These two songs pale in comparison to the former. Her career would take off better if they would consider her urban fanbase when marketing her. Her Marvin cover is at over 7million views in a little over a week.

  44. Set it Straiter June 24, 2011

Yeah I think Jojo will do better in this lane.. its quite fresh for her and I can hear the Kelly Clarkson influence. Nice Work..

  45. Kaylen June 24, 2011

a super-star like Jo Jo needs to think global and singing like Jill Scott won’t get this girl anywhere – just love on urban blogs which is cool but not enough. Her voice is R&B so whatever she sings will sound soulful. Plus, all the urban acts that are doing well are all singing pop records now a days anyway.

Jo Jo – if you are reading this, don’t get caught up with the urban blog hype. You don’t want to be Tina Marie. You want to be the girl version of Justin Timberlake.

  46. Kaylen June 24, 2011

P.S. – you can’t get more pop than Leave Get Out and Too Little Too Late. @Libra you only think it is R&B b/c she sounds soulful singing the records.

  47. June 24, 2011

There was a reason her first album did better than the second one. #Justsaying I’ve never heard any Pop/Rock records from Justin Timberlake. If JoJo wants to do Pop, she should at least should sing songs that fit her voice. Those Pop songs Too Little too late and Leave (Get out) fits her voice better than this song. I just think she needs to work with different producers. Most people like her singing R&B better. Not just on these blogs, but on youtube too. We are just no used to this new sound. As long as she does well, it doesn’t matter what she sings.

  48. Libra June 25, 2011

She was closer to being the female Justin T with her old sound. Justin although he made global music his music also appealed to the urban audience. Her music gets less and less soulful with each album. I think the soul is what makes her voice special no matter what she’s singing. Without the soul her voice is generic. These new songs, anybody could have sang them like Jordin Sparks, Charice or Kelly Clarkson. Before she was in her own lane. And she does need to sing songs that fit her voice better. Her newer music, like this song, she is singing way out of her vocal range. She needs to stay in her vocal lane. I want her to do well, so I hope this pop/rock thing works out for her.

I liked her part on that song It Sucks to be you. That direction of music might have worked better for her voice and as far as her being a global artist than this pop/rock to me and is more similar to Justin T..

  49. Leo June 25, 2011

song is ok, but thats not her voice. i have listened to way too many jojo records for that to be her in this moment. Its actually Selena Gomez – Tell me something

  50. June 25, 2011

@Leo This is JoJo, but this song doesn’t fit her at all.

  51. chel June 25, 2011

It is not jojo’s song!!! If you search jojo – Limbo on youtube, it is another song, a R&B song, not this pop song.

  52. tia June 26, 2011

UMMM! is there a reason im hearing selena gomez instead of JoJo…..what the f***?

  53. jesselopez June 30, 2011

WTF this is definitely selena gomez- tell me something. not jojo i’m hearing

  54. Mimibeme July 1, 2011

Im an AVID Jojo fan but I DO NOT like this song! Pop is not her lane….
