Sugababes Switch Record Label

Published: Friday 10th Jun 2011 by Sam

In what will inevitably be billed as a “mutual decision”, it has been announced that the Sugababes are no longer with longtime label Island/Universal Music.

Fans of the controversial trio needn’t stress, however. For Heidi, Amelle, and Jade have already signed with another label.

Full story below…

With all signs of Universal Music removed from their official website, speculation has been mounting that the label and group had severd ties.

Fresh reports this week confirmed the news, revealing that the ladies quietly left earlier this month, only to be snapped up swiftly by Sony Music. The latter are believed to be pumping many a pound (£) into the group’s new project, with it serving as one of their priority releases.

The as yet untitled LP is the follow-up to 2009’s chart disaster ‘Sweet 7’, and is preceded by single ‘Freedom’ – which should be due to premiere any day now.

For the trio’s sake, their Sony signing needs to yield instant results. For, with two flop albums under their belt, they’re most certainly on their third strike.

That’s good that they got signed to Sony, but they better do well, otherwise they will be dropped.

  2. Joey Ronald June 10, 2011

They should change their name, Sugababes aren’t them.

  3. Haiku June 10, 2011

They probably should have changed the name too.

These girls are great but they need to work SO HARD right now.

As much as I like them the original line up was CRAZY:

Train comes I don’t know its destination
    It’s a one-way ticket to a madman’s situation

Who in the hell cares? I will forever regard these no-hit wonders as the ho’s who covered and destroyed Adina Howard’s “Freak Like Me.”

i love the sugababes and i agree with thos who say they should change the name. maybe sam will start saying positive things about them. i have hope that these girls will bounce back. you watch this space and yall will be eating a humble pie!

  6. PR June 10, 2011

    change there name to ‘SugaBegs’

  7. CK June 10, 2011

I don’t want anyone to take this the wrong way, but are you all a fraction remedial? Seriously, however many different configurations the group has gone through, NOTHING would warrant a name change.

An artist’s/group’s name is more than just a ‘name’, it’s a calling card, a brand, a trademark, an identity. Now, considering Sugababes are the longest running British girlgroup of our time, why, I repeat, WHY would they change their name – effectively abandoning their most valuable asset?

As I said, I’m not here to offend anyone, but if you think a name change is needed for them, might I suggest a lobotomy for you?

    Idiots.

    @CK PREACH!!!!!!!

They don’t need to change their name. They need good, honest music. I love the sugababes and iam not hating on the new members because the old members were full of EGO!! All they have to do is go back to what made sugababes great.
I hope they succeed because i love Jade,Amelie and Heidi. Stop Hating and buy the records.

except they aren’t , only the name acheived that feat. the original line-up didn’t make it past 1 album. people connect to their musicians, they arent cartoon characters. i dont even consider them a girl group, just a group of girls that record together when the tide is going.

they arent sugababes, they are “sugababes”

As I said, I’m not here to offend anyone, but if you think a name change is needed for them, might I suggest a lobotomy for you

there are valid arguements to both sentiments. no need to insult people’s intelligence. you can’t be knowleadgeable and close-minded at the same time

“… no need to insult people’s intelligence.”

What intelligence? Ignoring people’s stupidity merely perpetuates their illness.

“…you can’t be knowleadgeable and close-minded at the same time”

WHO THE HELL TOLD YOU THAT??

  13. FlysEye June 10, 2011

hate people who say they should change their name.

Sugababes became a bit hit once Heidi joined. FACT!

Sugababes scored even further successes when Amelle joined. FACT!

Sugababes 4.0 are the best vocal mix they have ever been. FACT!

Give them a chance. They ARE the Sugababes since Heidi is pretty much the only contingent factor that made them a success in the first place and Amelle served to secure that into further success. End of rant.

  14. tin.tin June 10, 2011

The same girlband with three girls who sound blend, Keisha was giving a unique voice to the group with three individualized vocal – blends nicely. I think Amelle and Jade sounds too similar and makes the group sound generic, Jade was a wrong choice.

Even the long term record company that works with the Sugababes dumped them.

  15. tin.tin June 10, 2011

don’t think they score further success with Amelle, they were successful with Mutya lineup to solidify the core fanbase. Amelle brings in an updated crowd to the fanbase, with the core sound to the Sugababes – Keisha (and Mutya) gone. They are dead.

Face it, Amelle sounds a little like Mutya – with less class.

  16. albert June 10, 2011

i think they really should call it a day! they have lost a high per cent of their fanbase now kicking keisha out, they are a joke none of them are original members, don’t think their new album and singles will sell well, well if im honest i think they will flop, and hopefully will end haha, do us a favour heidi, amelle and jade, please disband asap, bring back keisha, mutya and siobhan-the original line up!

  17. YOOSONDALOOSE June 10, 2011

Go Sugababes, they need this, they are very good!

  18. bips June 10, 2011

i don’t intend to buy a sugababes album without at leat one of the original members……
they still got some nerve to use that name but hey…i guess that they got to pay some bills……jade should have leave the group and focused on her solo career i never could stan amelle as soon as she gets in i was sure that the band was in trouble(she has a good voice thought) ,as for heidi she’s simply insignificant…..she has no presence and looks like the mother of the other two , keisha and mutya were the sugababes try to call a band destiny’s child without kelly and beyonce i bet that it flop as sure as 1+1=2
    good luck thought….

  19. Kings June 10, 2011

I wish them well – they have the goods IMO as 3 have strong vocals. To me they r still sugababes with Heidi – they were pravtically non existant b4 her… Also the numbers may have been poor for Sweet7 but it was still very much a solid album.

  20. Dev June 10, 2011

The thing is that they’re just not interesting anymore. This was one group that people really identified with and thats why i feel the reaction is so bad. I think the difference with Heidi and Amel is that they replaced members instead of members being thrown out, and with Amel they picked her because she was the closest thing they could find that sounded like Mutya.
I dont think that Jade fits in, she fits in as much a Michelle does in destiny’s child which vocally isn’t very well

  21. true June 11, 2011

Someone commented saying they should go back to being sugababes with their original sound but you can’t do that with none of the original group members, the sound is lost the moment you take the key element of what made that sound original in the first place.

You can keep saying Heidi is an original member but when you hear her vocals with the other two on the new sugababes songs you don’t think that a sugababes song. It just sounds like any other group. Like another comment stated the Heidi & amelle were chosen to replace members that left & choose based on their voices to complementing the group sound. Jade was placed in at the last minute to replace a key member who was kick out; she was chosen because of her mainstream look & sound rather then complementing the sound.

  22. S*** Mike June 11, 2011

I dont think they really sound that great, but hopefully they will get better,if they hook up
with the right producers, and their career is managed properly, otherwise they will
    be forgotten about .

  23. Dragon June 12, 2011

    Will flop.
Sorry Babes, The Saturdays already took your spot.

  24. curtains June 12, 2011

    WHO?

  25. Naman June 13, 2011

Makes sense that they’be changed labels. I mean they released The Best of the Bs/The Complete Bs then a short while after they switch from Universal/Island to Sony. Hmm I wonder why.
