Will You Be Buying: Lloyd’s ‘King of Hearts’

Today marks the release of Lloyd’s ‘King of Hearts’ album.

The singer’s 4th album, and first post-The Inc. release, mostly features production from famed Hip-Hop/R&B producer Polow Da Don and guest appearances from heavy-hitters such as Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Young Jeezy.  And much like the aforementioned, the album, preceded by the top 10 R&B hit ‘Lay It Down’, sees the New Orleans native venture into played out familiar subject matter over much of the album – sex.  Unlike some of the album’s co-stars (I bet the readers know his name…his name…his name), Lloyd’s vocal ability is one that is noteworthy and often overlooked.

From the bass driven, slow jam ‘Naked’ to the Andre 3000 assisted “Dedication To My Ex”, Young Goldie may tip-toe into cliche, but his delivery is far from cloned.  As, to the surprise of some, to say the album is solid would be an understatement.

Alas, Lloyd may be ‘King of Hearts’, but will he be the “King of Charts”?  We at That Grape Juice want to know, are you checking for the album?  Have you listened to or bought the LP?

If you haven’t, check out an album sampler here.

  22. Dezzi July 6, 2011

Yes I will be buying this album, despite what some of the haters say on this page, I think the album is decent, I love naked, jigsaw, and angel as well as the socially conscious world cry (=, people need to just give Lloyd the respect he deserves stop putting so much energy into being a hater its NOT HEALTHY #kingofhearts

  23. Malibu Barbie July 6, 2011

why does his album cover look like sum1 took a photo of him passed out on a chair???? come harder Lloyd, hes a cool artist but he needs to do more to stand out from the pack

  24. Jarrett Goer July 6, 2011

he is a talented artist, but doesnt have a big enough fan base. R&b sales have declined massively. Hell be lucky if he sell 100k in the first week. 100k will be a milestone for an artist like him, and he has talent. But the truth is the truth R&b music isn’t selling

  25. jamir21 July 6, 2011

    No !

  26. c July 6, 2011

I will be getting this cd:)

  27. nice_gurl July 6, 2011

Nope, it’s not the style of music I like. But I listened to the songs and I liked some of them, like Dedication To My Ex.

  28. Superwinter July 6, 2011

Just Based off the sampler I would have said no for some strange reason they put the weaker songs out on the sampler IMO there are better songs on the album like angel which is really nice and Lloyd plays the piano on this one, this is 4 my baby is cool, jigsaw has a 90s r&b feel , world cry has that mj feel, dedication to my ex is one of those songs ppl will either luv or hate but it def humorous .bottom line readers listen to the actual album don’t judge based off da sampler or the negative comments from people above who may have not even listened to da album

  29. Superwinter July 6, 2011

Yes I will be picking up king of hearts

  30. Goodmuzzic July 6, 2011

Of course I will be buying this album street love is still his best album, but this album sounds okay too I like be the one and Cupid as well as angel actual the only songs I don’t care for are shake it 4 daddy and bang I think luv me girl will grow on me

  31. crunkpoet July 6, 2011

of course i will! f*** what er body else say!

  32. ROB July 6, 2011

After reading this post, I actually got the album. I love this CD! Very grown and s***, he sounds great, and # 2 is too funny, I was ROTF. I’m glad I got it!

  33. chege July 6, 2011

This CD is one of the best I’ve heard in a nice little while. I believe its flawlessly complete. I wasn’t a big Lloyd fan but I’m buying all his old albums now. He’s a talented cat. If I had to complain about anything I’d simply say the track Angel is too short. This CD is great. Downloaded one from Amazon and bought a deluxe copy at Target.

  34. jamir21 July 6, 2011

No because not my type of music ! I think Lloyd is a very talented artist ! My type of music is Pop/Rock ish music ! But I do like his Lay It Down !

  35. ASAP (As Sincere As Possible) July 6, 2011

No. The singles were pretty mediocre and the song that leaked (‘Dedication To My Ex’) is a lyrical and musical nightmare

  36. kody3x July 6, 2011

@ced had to bring cb in the post

  37. VA STAND UP!! July 6, 2011

LMAO at the shade! Every chance ya’ll get ya’ll shade the s*** out of Trey! Damn! Ya’ll can’t still be mad at that interview he gave ya’ll?

I am still undecided. I like a couple of the singles that I heard but I just don’t know if I am willing to spend money on it. I listened to most of it on Youtube & it’s not that hot to me. I think Lloyd is talented, has a pretty decent voice & has released some hot ish but he’s just never really been able to keep my attention that long.

He has a lot of dope artist as features but most of those were a let down. I actually HATE the song with him & CB.

    ——————————————————

Agreed! There are only a handle full or r&b acts that are actually selling decent and Lloyd is certainly not one of them. He only appeals to the urban market and they clearly don’t support their artist as much as mainstream does.

Polow Da Don who produced the album said that it is expected to only sell 15-20k first week. Damn shame! SMH!

  39. Lyte July 7, 2011

I bought it and currently have it in heavy rotation. There is no way anyone that likes music can’t find something on this album that they will love. Lloyd and Polow worked hard to give quality music and a diverse music experience when listening all the way through. There is something for everyone on there (radio, club, old school). Come on, the album has two top #10 singles so far SMH.

  40. MzStoopidThick July 7, 2011

I guess haters will be haters! I bought the album and put it on repeat. Lloyd is one of the best that’s out right now. “King Of Hearts” is a great album. I enjoy listening to it from the beginning to the end. I think he made a good decision with the artists he decided to work with.

  41. Cara July 7, 2011

I bought the deluxe “King of Hearts” CD by Lloyd on July 5th, 2011, it is GREAT!!!! I really enjoy his music. He is very talented. I suggest to all lovers of R&B as well as any genre of music buy it and support this hard working, great young talented soul brother!!! Pollow da Don and Lloyd much continued success!!! Much love Lloyd!!!

  42. Dez July 9, 2011

I see a lot of you just don’t appreciate real music! I bought the album & it is really great! Never heard music like this Polow Da Don produced the album & it’s fire! Lloyd can really sing so don’t knock til you try & his music isn’t crap it’s beyond rich & very tasteful! The album was so good I ended up at target everyday buying more copies! No one threw shade at Trey! I doubt if you all care if trey throws shades so stop with the foolishness & support good music! Chris Brown, Vega, Wayne, Andre 3000, the Game, Keri Hilson, R.kelly, & Trey Songz appear on the album! I hate garbage music & only support quality music & I must say this album isn’t crappy at all it’s refreshing, laid back, relates to the ppl & more! No point in dwelling own the other albums time to move on he had to switch it up 4 ppl 2 recognize. Get with it! King of Hearts in stores now! Deluxe copy with bonus tracks sold only at target!

  43. Rissa July 10, 2011

I would definitely buy his album ,reason why Lloyd is known for making music that means something he makes music from the heart and as a music lover i appreciate that more than just an artist making music for the fame and money. I can tell that he is changed as a person grown and that is what he expresses in king of hearts. The songs give you the change to experience your emotions happy, silly , sad, or turned on. Just how RnB music supposed to be. Just get the Album and experience the love ………..KING OF HEARTS takes you on a music journey

  44. Nia July 28, 2011

Yes this album is good. Kinda upsetting that this album didn’t sell more copies the 1st week but maybe it will sell from word of mouth and more promo. I still feel that street luv is his best, but this is right behind. For some reason people have unnecessary hatred towards Lloyd which I don’t get, its kind of childish. Its one thing to not like someones music but why is it that people have to comment on the artist looks or say that they are gay and just straight bash them in other ways. Lloyd does still need ti find away to reconnect with his fans. King of hearts is good tho and yes u should buy it if u love r&b
