Janet Jackson Visits Paul O’Grady Show; Announces Tour Extension

Published: Saturday 2nd Jul 2011 by Sam

Pop royal Janet Jackson is currently over here in London for the latest leg of her ‘Number Ones: Up, Close, & Personal Tour’. Taking a brief break from her 3-day residency at the iconic Royal Albert Hall, the diva stopped by ITV1’s Paul O’Grady Show.

There, the 45 year old (still hard to believe) plugged the trek, her new book ‘True You’, movies, and the like. She also reveals that the tour will be heading to Africa, Asia, as well as returning to the States – keeping her on the road into 2012.

Check out the interview (and my two pence below) …

While it’s great to see Janet in such high demand, I’m hoping she and her team are keeping their eye on (what should be) the prize – a return to the charts. Reliable sources confirm to That Grape Juice that this current trek was mounted to restore faith in promoters and label execs after the abrupt cancellation of 2008’s ‘Rock Witchu Tour’. As some may remember, that jaunt was brought to a halt when the singer cited ill-health. Whatever the case, it didn’t bode well for her as an insurable / bankable act. Hence, this tour – with its ‘no-frills, just the hits’ gimmick – is very much a case of rebuilding corporate relationships – ahead of a bigger tour later down the road. One, it is hoped, is backed by a bevy of new hits.

(It also may explain why Janet, while still ripe in all her fierceness, isn’t dancing as hard as she used to. At 45, as great as she looks, it’s not about getting fatigued from uber intense choreography day-in, day-out. Save that for the award shows, no?)

In any case, here’s hoping her new material is the business. For, as the likes of ‘Feedback’, ‘LUV’, and ‘Rock With You’ show, Ms. Jackson is very much a viable force. All she needs is the right backing.

Randomness: Now that’s our kind of audience!

Janet looks so youthful and still has that Penny face from Good Times. So beautiful, graceful and poised. I’m so glad she’s looking and feeling good. It’s funny that she doesn’t have to tour or do another cd for as long as she live, but she does and I guess that because it’s what she entered the business for, but what’s more important is that she continues to electrify an audience and when I saw her on American Idol when she walked out onto that state with that long flowing red gown and it was the first time she showed the world her new short hair cut, singing “Nothing” my jaw dropped because she looked so elegant and beautiful and has a walk on her that nobody else in the world can do. Then after that song was over, she went behind this screen and when the screen went up she was in this black cat suit strutting down the steps in those 4-6 inch heels singing “Nasty”…I was done!!! “Done, you hear me!!!” 45 years old strutting and working that stage with a body like that – You Go Girl!!! Tell all these other young girls to have a seat, they live in the house that Miss Jackson built. Class Act all the way.

A career spanning 3 decades. These new artists cant keep up the momentum for a second album. Queen of Pop, R&B, Soul, Funk, and Rock. Better yet, the Queen of Music. No one does it like Janet, and its safe to say, no one EVER will

Janet looks really good here. I see that body is returning back to it’s peak form(that what happens when Janet tours for lengthy periods). I think this Up close & Personal tour was a great idea, it was our one chance to see Janet in an intimate setting. She doesn’t need any gimmicks, she’s never been one to rely on them. While other artist half her age are riding in moving objects back and forth at their concerts while performing, Janet is dancing on her 2 feet for the entire 2-3hours she’s on stage. If Janet returns back to the charts – that would be wonderful, but honestly her videos are always a big deal. Any era Janet has is memorable and I’m sure she will continue inspiring the industry just like she always does. Things won’t be changing anytime soon with Janet Damita!

Let me say something, I love Janet Jackson. I have been a huge fan since Rhythm Nation days when I was a child. To see her career span as long as I have been alive is a true honor. No she is no vocalist like a Whitney or Mariah, but she is a iconic legend in her own lane. What sets her apart is her ability to write great music, perform it better than most, and make career defining music. She is no gimmick artist. Her concerts are great productions, and her albums are filled with emotions and songs that most mature and “authentic” people can relate to! Hope she is working on some new music cause your fans are right here waiting! XOXOXO

i just got back from the second night of Janet’s Up Close and Personal Tour in London at Royal Albert Hall, and I’m going again tomorrow night. Simply put, Janet doesn’t need fame monsters or shirtless six-packed men to make her show amazing: she is simply still an ICON!
Beautiful, graceful, soulful, and unique…..Janet is still at the top of her game and no one comes close to her status as the trendsetter that made the Beyonce’s and Gaga’s of the music world possible! Pure FIRE!!!!!!!

  19. SHESDUMB July 3, 2011
