With the passing of Amy Winehouse having heavy impact on the Billboard 200 last week and the long awaited release of Kelly Rowland‘s ‘Here I Am’ making its way to the world this week, it has certainly been an interesting last few days for music lovers.
For many have been curious to find out exactly how these two events would play out when this week’s sales figures rolled in.
Now they must wait no more.
Sales figures and chart positions below…
With 77,000 units sold, Rowland’s ‘Here I Am’ is one the highest selling debuts the entertainer has ever scored as a solo artist, much to the delight of her ever loyal ‘Rowldawgs’. The LP makes its debut at #3.
At #2 is Adele‘s ‘21′ with 83,000 copies sold in the US in the last week and two places below her is Amy Winehouse with ‘Back To Black‘ with a sales increase of 44% in just seven days with exactly 54,000 units moved in the last seven days.
Elsewhere on the chart, ’4‘ by Beyonce holds it top ten position by charting at #6. The LP which recently received a platinum certification, generated sales of 41,000 units in this chart week.

i’m upset w/ kelly not doing much promo, no capitalizing off of motivation w/ 2nd video, her always have club appearances, and now her having time off from the UK X Factor appearing in Beyonce’s new “party” video *instead of on her own shit……… I believe Kelly don’t want or care about being a superstar like she could be, she really has potential to be a household name Mainstream like Beyonce, for she is like the dark skinned version of Bee…. I think 77k in the first week is good – and as Kelly said in an interview, what’s the point in moving forward as an artist when people make comparisons to the past. As Whitney once said, you start at #1 – where do you go? Down? And Kelly wants longevity with this record…
As for promo – I think Kelly did very well… How do you know how political the promo was? (i.e. perhaps she couldn’t get a spot on some big name shows… maybe now this record will succeed and break down doors for her to do more ‘big name’ shows…..)

I just wish the album was better. I love Kelly, support her ( I actually bought the “Motivation” single and I don’t buy singles, I buy albums), I enjoy her performances, but I don’t love “Here I Am” like I thought i would. “Keep it Between Us” is, hands down, the best song on the album. I wish this song, along with “Motivation” were the benchmark songs, so I could see where she could have gone from there.
Anyway, I’ll continue to support Kelly but Imma need that music to get better. Leave that sub-par R & B alone…please. If you are going to do R & B- do it–don’t play with it.
As far as Adele is concerned, damn!!!! I LOVE “21″ but I never thought it would be a smash like this. It’s all about word of mouth promo for her. I told my homegirl about it- she bought it. She told her homegirl about it- she bought it, etc………Do it Adele! The album, no doubt, is great.

300k can’t be sold because people are just you’re fans.Beyonce from her first solo album has always delevered a good album and don’t forget her album leaked a month before and many people got a chance to listen to the album and many realised yes, it was different from anything on now but it was an amazing album. That’s why it sold as it did.
As for kelly, this album has been delayed for a year now and you don’t really know what you are getting with her. Is it going to be a pop album or what…There are singles which are promoted and then their not even in the album……it was very messy.

I got Kelly’s album, and I love it. I have to say though, the promo for the album has been very lazy! I agree she needs a better team! She should have been everywhere the last month. I still support her. Just dishearten by the lack of appearances/ performances…. Sigh….

The album has done fine, she has a nice chart position next to her name.
What I can’t stand is the ridiculous Kelly Rowland propaganda on TGJ.
Such as
- the overpraising of the lip-synched BET performance which would have been ripped apart if it had been certain other artists.
- the feeling that this patchy album would have been given a great review even if she’d farted on the CD for an hour.
- Comments like this album had “one of the highest selling debuts of her solo career” when in fact it’s the lowest – it sold less than Simply Deep which debuted with 77k, and Miss Kelly which did 86k in its first week.
This blog could be great, but unfortunately Sam insists on ruining it with his own personal vendettas and agendas.
