Chris Brown‘s comeback campaign shows no sign of slowing. Indeed, despite being a fixture on charts and countdown’s globally, the 22 year old returns to the format which facilitated his ‘return’ – the mixtape.
His third free effort to date, ‘Boy In Detention’ sees Brown ditch his playful flirtation with Hip-Hop, replacing it with a full-fledge rap effort.
Released today, the set features unique spin’s on Drake’s ‘Marvin’s Room’, Big Sean’s ‘My Last’, among other cuts.

I love Chris when he’s singing, but not when he’s rapping.His lyrics are so one-dimensional, the rhymes are weak and his flow gets too slow and poor sometimes.And some of his lyrics went way too far (“I bring the monster out, she puts her hands on it”).Is this how he is supposed to re-establish himself in the mainstream media??

Well, I wasn’t really forward to this mixtape too much cause I am not a fan of his rappin but it really surprised me! It was really good and he sang on it almost as much as he rapped and his features were really impressive! I should have had more faith in my fave! *chuckles*

^^^I know this is JUST a mixtape but it’s released, so anyone could find it on YouTube.With lyrics like this, I BELIEVE that he damages his image and if the mainstream media comes across this song, then it’s going to make it even more difficult for him to re-establish himself.
(And F.A.M.E. is better than pretty much every urban pop album released this year, so of course it’s better than this mixtape)

First off, where were you when he performed on The Today Show a MAINSTREAM morning show (attracting the biggest crowd in history) or when he performed on DWTS?! He’s even performing at the VMA’s this year which is a mainstream award show! He ALREADY has re-established himself with mainstream!
Second of all, who gives a shit! At this point do you really think he gives a flying fuck about how ‘mainstream media’ see’s him? Eminem is still rapping about killing women and he is still one of the most successful mainstream rappers performing at the Grammys!Lady Gaga is always testing the Catholic church but she still gets to perform on American Idol!
As for Justin Bieber, the reason people are saying he ‘slayed’ is cause he shocked people! No one expected that from freaking Justin Bieber! No one is saying that he is going to be the next big thing in rap but just that he was really impressive considering he is not considered a ‘real rapper’.
There are plenty of rappers out there such as Kanye, Jay, J.Cole, Wale, Lupe who are still putting out ‘real rap’. So rap isn’t ‘dead and buried’ just because people congratulated JB on one song! Don’t be so dramatic!
