As reported here, media mogul Simon Cowell has long sought diva/friend Mariah Carey to guest-mentor on the upcoming FOX reality talent show X Factor USA (premiering September 21). Now, word has it the ‘Touch My Body’ singer may be one step closer to finalizing that deal:
“The X Factor judges will have one superstar work in each panelists’ respective homes to whip their contestants into shape for the show. Simon Cowell is in final negotiations to have Mariah Carey as his personal pick to mentor his contestants from his house. The X Factor is pulling out all the stops to draw in other superstars as mentors.”
Rumor has it legendary names such as Mary J. Blige and Janet Jackson have also been mentioned.
With ‘American Idol’, ‘The Voice’, and ‘Majors & Minors’ all making their way to television in the coming months (and packing star power), it appears the talent show has officially become the new stomping ground for seasoned/already-established performers. And, while some singles are blowing up the charts (see: ‘Moves Like Jagger’, ‘On the Floor’), given the album sales climate, no one has substantially proven them to be effective.
Only time will prove when this bandwagon will break.
