Compare her to her contemporaries of that era who did what she did i.e Foxy Brown, Trina, Eve, Rah Digga, Queen Pen, Da Brat
Who wrote this dumb album? Kim has never attempted to cross over but her 3 major cds never flopped either, they are all certified platinum or platinum plus which is rare amoung her contemporaries and for the topics she was singing about.
Lil Kim has a legacy and a following. The label has work to do but if she spit like she did those 16 bars on Monica’s song and continue to keep her nose to the ground and work hard like she’s been doing i.e touring clubs here and abroad and building her twittr Marines who go hard for her, she’ll be ok.
If she sells 300k first time out, that would be a good look.

You can’t really compare her to Lauryn cos Lauryn wasn’t ALL the way hip-hop. She was very diverse. Female rap has never really been that much of a successful genre in comparison to male rap. Even Drake hasn’t sold that much worldwide, so what does that tell you? He had ALOT of hype when his album came out and many singles so idk. It’s down to multiple factors. I really do have a soft spot for Kim. She’s an original and an innovator.
HOWEVER, even in her day she wasn’t as mainstream as Nicki is now. Her time has passed unfortunately.
Rappers have short shelf lives in general and with the competition there is now, there’s pretty much no way she’ll be huge again.

As far as singles success and mainstream appeal goes obviously Nicki is quickly becoming the most successful female MC and just might surpass Missy if she can sustain some longevity. Nicki Minaj has absolutely nothing to do with this situation, yet everything affiliated with one, the other has to be mentioned. It’s sad… I’m not sure that Kim will do as well as she has in the past, as much as you want to confirm/deny her legacy in hip hop – that has nothing to do with the music industry of today or its sound. I’m sure Kim fans will support whatever career goals she plans to make happen. Will it translate to being at the top of the charts? Maybe. Not too sure. “Magic Stick” peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 without a video and “Lady Marmalade” was #1 for MONTHS.
Most likely she has funded and recorded her album herself and THEN taken it to Universal to be distributed and marketed by then. So in all likelihood she’s got a big fat advance check and Universal will make big money from whatever sales she makes (and God knows she’s got a loyal following) without having had to spend anything other than that advance. Win-win situation.

Nicki was featured on a lot of singles before her own cd came out. She got over 3 miilion maybe 4 million followers on Twitter. She was the only female out last year. She sold less then Lauryn Hill who had competition at the time. Her cd is pop. She got 6 singles & videos out. & she only sold 1.4 million.
Nobody see this is a problem with her effort. All that money they put behind her first effort. I don’t think they see the results they was hoping for. The only female out, sold less then somebody whom had competition, 6 singles, her cd is pop. & she only sold 1.4 million copies.

My nephew told me that his friends warn him not to by Nicki cd after it came out. And the ones who brought her cd, went back to the store to switch it for one of Kim cds.
My nephew and niece last year was Nicki this and Nicki that. My niece hasn’t talk about Nicki this year. & my nephew told me that Nicki is corny. I wondfer what going to happen for 30 year old Nicki 2nd effort.
