Rapper J. Cole is set to unleash his long awaited debut LP, ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’, this Tuesday. And, so as to whet appetites, the MC today released the video for - ”
Well, he did have a message to convey with this one and I like the fact that he talks about real life, but at the same time, I can’t help but think that this video is pointless. When it comes to rap delivery, this is not one of his best tracks and besides, it’s not even on his main album, it’s just a bonus track. It’s cool, though
So I’m not the only one that feels his delivery on the tracks that he has released from his album (so far) isn’t his best? It’s almost as if he should have released his last mixtape as his first album while his buzz from the previous mixtape was really high. I’m almost starting to believe that the label may have restrained him a bit on this commercial album (or something to that effect), and I’m hoping that that won’t effect him negatively. Idk maybe it’s just me.
@VICIOUSVIXEN It’s not just you.I am kind of underwhelmed by his album. It’s still a very good album, but he had tweeted that this record would change the game The irony is that the best tracks on the album are the mixtape cuts that he included on there too.’Lights Please’ and ‘In The Morning’ slay every single song on his album!I respect him for producing 80% of the album by himself, but the flow and even the lyrics are not on the level of his mixtapes.I don’t think it’s about making it commercial, because even now it’s not commercial. The flow and the delivey don’t affect commercial appeal, so it’s not about that.I don’t know what it is.
i think those who “don’t get him”, havn’t been following his movements on the underground scene. the mixtapes for instance have made me a fan and although i have been left a bit dissapointed by the music leaked from the album (mr.nice watch ect) i cant ignore his lyric word play and subject matters on his mixtapes. however i hope for his sack the album lives up to the 2 year hype, as in the music industry you are only as hot as your last single. more tracks like lost ones less tracks like mr.nice watch
