Recently tying with Michael Jackson to have 5 singles from the same album to go #1, it would appear that Pop character Katy Perry isn’t satisfied with sharing this feat the King Of Pop at all.
For she is to release a sixth single from the album ‘Teenage Dream‘ , a single which will best Michael Jackson’s long time record if it follows its predecessors by going to #1.

Released in 1987, Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad‘ held the record for being the only album to see five of its releases enjoy the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, until Katy Perry‘s ‘Last Friday Night‘ helped her tie this record in 2011.
However, if her brand new single ‘The One That Got Away‘ reaches the top spot, she will become the first artist in chart history to achieve 6 #1 singles from the same LP, which would undeniably belittle the ‘5 singles’ record both she and Jackson currently hold.

She literally did a singles album. It looks like that was the idea of the album. That would explain why the album lacks quality or substance. She might have broken the single record of Michael but his songs are still loved by so many people and are still remembered. Records can always be broken but there will never be an artist of the calibre or MJ.

I think everyone is bored of electro/dance music. It was nice and fresh but now everyone and their mama are doing that type of song. I think Adele is successful because she is not doing what everyone is doing. She has a great voice with heartfelt music. And lyrics that make sense and aren’t only about s**. She might have broken the single record of Michael but his songs are still loved by so many people and are still remembered. Records can always be broken but there will never be an artist of the calibre or MJ.

But even if she does break the record with another single none of these songs will be remembered in even 10-20 years which is the sad thing. It’s just popular now. Everything about MJ is classic and timeless and will never be forgotten. I can’t say the same for Katy. I do like her singles they are catchy…other than that she is blah to me. She seems like she is always trying to out do someone. She even tried to do Gaga’s wackiness at the VMAs this year…it’s getting tired that artist aren’t concerned with being good artist but out doing other artist.

‘TOTGA’, ‘Circle The Drain’, ‘E.T.’ and ‘Peacock’ are the only songs I like from that album and I think she can hit No.1.However, everybody (bar Katy) knows that the chick can get 10 No.1’s from the same damn album, but she’s still going to be just another young popstar.If MJ hadn’t got a No.1 in his entire career, he would still be a legend, so Katy can have all the No.1’s in the world as far as I’m concerned.She’s going to have an article at Wikipedia and some posts on blogs mentioning the feat but when she reaches the point when radio friendly songs are not enough, then nobody will care.I think she could have some decent longetivity if she fights for it, but if she thinks that beating MJ’s record will make her the female Michael Jackson, she needs to get a reality check.

People act like Katy is pruposely trying to beat MJ’s record, when it’s obvious she is just trying to capitalize off her current fame and release as many singles as she can from a popular album. She and her label have every right to keep releasing singles if they think it has the potential to do well and possibly ger her another hit and/or No. 1. This industry is a BUSINESS! It’s not just about ‘quality material’ it’s also about capitalizing off popularity and that’s exactly what she and her team are doing!
TGJ is obviously keeps doing these post and KEEP mentioning MJ’s name as a way to get people riled up! I’m NOT a Katy Perry fan, but what difference does it make if she gets another No. 1? What difference does it make if she ties his record and/or beats it?! People are making too big a deal out of this! Twenty five plus years ago when ‘Thriller’ was released the only way to get music was to buy an album, now this is the era where people can go online and download damn near anything they want so of course it makes it harder to sell albums cause you have so many other ways to get the music for free!
Singles however are a lot likely to sell more than an album & are a lot easier to go No. 1 now because of iTunes. The digital era makes it harder to sell album but easier to get No. 1’s but it doesn’t mean that the artist who rack up No. 1 SINGLES are gonna leave the same impact that MJ left. Even if they tie his record, it doesn’t mean that they can ever match or top his influence in the industry. MJ forever and always will be the most influential artist that ever lived! I really wish people, especially TGJ would just leave MJ’s name out of it cause clearly whenever people see his name they just have to attack the artist that is being compared to him, even when the artist themselves hasn’t even mentioned MJ. R&B is f****** dead and buried in the entire world (we aren’t in 2004 anymore), there isn’t no room for R&B anywhere, only in US that still have a small fan base (people who listen to urban radios). R&B is like Country genre, it’s only successful in US. That’s the reason why 4 sales are bad, selling R&B songs in 2011 is completly hard. R&B is so dead that 4 already is the best selling R&B album of the year.

I do believe there IS a big point about claiming she’s going to best Michael’s record. I am a huge fan of MJ but I would give credit where it’s due if it was deserved. Katy Perry has remixed songs and released them. Once you add another artist etc it shouldn’t really count as an album No. 1. Billboard should address this, it makes no sense. It should be songs from the album, not randomly remixed tracks that are sent to iTunes and then marketed as being tracks from an album they aren’t on. Michael released 5 original songs from one album, Bad. There was the odd saxophone or intro changed from single to album mix but all in all it was the same song. He didn’t throw LL Cool J or someone else on just to make it more popular. Perry can get 7 #1’s but as long as they are tracks NOT FOUND ON HER ALBUM Michael’s record will ALWAYS stand. SO remixes aside I’m sure that gives her 3 number one’s from Teenage Dream.
