The Whitney Houston-led remake of famed 1976 musical ‘Sparkle’ is adding more star power as the weeks go by. The latest addition comes in the form of singers R. Kelly and Cee Lo Green. Reports indicate that Green has been tapped to join the cast that already features the likes of American Idol alum Jordin Sparks and comedian Mike Epps.
Kelly, who also contributed to Houston’s own latest chart-topper ‘I Look To You’, will oversee the album’s soundtrack (which is said to feature music from Sparks, Green, and the ‘I Will Always Love You’ belter herself).
With the remake relocated from Harlem to Detroit during the height of the ‘Motown’ era, fans will be pleased to know that production is set to start in coming weeks.

YES!!! Get Whitney on there!!! I hoe she writes and executive produces too, but at least she’s acting and singing again.
It would be great if The soundtrack gets a few Grammy nominations, there are so many new categories now compared to the Bodyguard days and WTE and TPW soundtrack days.
Great!! Can’t wait to hear what they some up with, a song could get a Best Song nod from the Academy Awards if they do well.

This sounds like an #EPICFLOP waiting to happen. Whitney can’t act worth a fuck. All her movies sucked with none ever receiving critical appeal let alone a ratings pass. Outside of the soundtracks, the plots were stupid, the scripts were terribly written and amateurish, and no comment about the acting. YILCH!!!! Get ready for poor critics reviews.

SMH…what happened to the days when people that are actually trained in the “acting” arts were given acting gigs? I will not be watching what I already know will turn out to be a HOT-MESS.COM.
S/N: I can already see this movie cleaning house at the Razzies.

All of the actors attached to this movie are experienced and have done a fair deal of acting except Jordin Sparks. People do your research. Derek Luk- Antowine Fisher
Omari Hardwick – for Colored girls
Carmen Ojogo- check her credits
R kelly- Soundtrack
This is a solid cast
Whitney/Debra Martin Chase- all of her movies plus princess diaries, cheetah girls, lemonade mouth, traveling pants, cinderella- this team know what they are doing
The akils- jumping the broom, the game, girlfriends
Can’t wait to see this.

Sam, Sparkle is not a musical. It’s a drama with some singing. It’s not like Dreamgirls although Dreamgirls was inspired off it.
R Kelly is just doing the soundtrack the songs. Cee Lo will have a very small part as one of the talent performing at a club. No major role.

TOTAL CHEAP ASS BUDGET MESS[DOT]COM. MOST OF THOSE ACTORS ARE B-RATED TV PEOPLE. SOUNDS LIKE THE BEST THE AKILS CAN DO WITH WHAT LITTLE MONEY THE STUDIO IS WILLING TO SQUANDER ON THIS TRAINWRECK. NOT A SINGLE ACTOR THERE WITH ONE BIG TIME ACTING ACCOLADE. THIS WILL BE KNOWN AS DREAM GIRLS 2.0. AT LEAST DREAM GIRLS HAD ACTORS IN IT IN EDDIE MURPHY (OSCAR NOM) AND JAMIE FOXX (OSCAR WIN) AND A PRETTY GOOD ACTING CAST OUTSIDE OF BEYONCE (WHO WAS JUST ANOTHER PRETTY FACE WHO LOOKS GOOD IN DESIGNER DRESSES AND A NICE ASS TO BANG). WHITNEY HOUSTON HAS NEVER BEEN IN A CRITICALLY POSITIVE SHOW PIECE ON THE BIG SCREEN. ALL 3 OF HER FLICKS – BG, PW, WTE – WERE ALL CRITICAL FLOPS. ONLY THE SOUND TRACKS SAVED THE DAY. TRUTH!!!

I was rooting for this remake because I thought they would modernize it but am beyond disappointed with this “Motown” era take and some of the casting leaks – Jordin in particular. They should have tried to find an unknown for this part AND the only young actor I would pay $$$ to see portraying Stix is Michael B. Jordan!!!
On the positive side, it could be as good as DREAMGIRLS. I’ll have to see clips before I make a final decision to go see it.
