Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige drops the visual for ’25/8′ – the lead single from her forthcoming ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues’. Fans of the ‘No More Drama’ diva have been anticipating its debut since Blige’s behind the scenes look at the video whet appetites last week.
Will the commanding diva charge the charts with ’25/8′ or does Mary miss the mark? You be the judge after the jump:
Revolutionary, by no means, but still engaging enough to bring a bit of character to the throwback song. Even in that ‘character’, it appears to lack a bit of -umph that Mary needs to boost this record into record-buyer’s view. As no stranger to choreography, Mary’s moves in ’25/8′ were also a characteristic throwback to her earlier work (which appears to be the parent album’s overall feel). But, while we certainly hail the Queen here at TGJ and applaud her efforts to step out of her comfort zone, that does not forgive those Bengay-thirsty two steps.
Either way, how well the visual will assist Blige’s bid for the upper half of the charts remains to be seen. But, as ever, here’s hoping her loyal fanbase and seeming ’25/8′ promo hustle will certainly fill in the blanks.

Honestly, I respect her work but it feels like she’s not even trying right now.I know that she’s not 20 years old, so I wasn’t expecting 10 different locatiosn, 20 outfit changes and a dance breakdown of course, but she HAS to be able to do something more than that…It’s just so…basic.For example, Alicia Keys barely moved in her ‘Superwoman’ video, yet it was a great effort that had a meaning and evoked some emotion.Imo, Mary should find the narrator in her because that’s the way for an r’n’b’ artist to go…

Love the song but the video not so much.
Mary has an older fanbase. It’s not like Rihanna whom those the Navy are doing a buy & request for the second weekend straight. And I must say don’t no other fanbase do that much for their fav. I don’t think Mary fans will do little requesting but we shall see.

MJB’s 40, if ur expecting her to bust out Beyonce moves at her age, then u’re going to be waiting for a long time. She’s never done it before and she’s not gonna do it now, she got her own dance moves. I don’t think the song needs the vid to do well, I think it has what it takes to be a hit by itself, but whatever. This is the first time I hear the song and I barely watched the vid, yet I like it, so….

The younger generation and the writer of this article, clearly doesn’t understand true R&B and grown up music.
this video is HORRIBLE. it looks AMATEUR. seriously LOW BUDGET. i dont blame Mary but i got a feeling that her label isnt putting alot of m oney behind her after Stronger With Each Tear album which was a dissapointment really. I love Mary prior to no more drama and every now and then she still delivers something really soulful and really Mary like Father In You from the Breakthrough album but this video is horrible. The people walking by in zoom speed looks so amateur like something from 1980. Also this is not a good lead single for the album either. 25/8 is alright but i dont smell a hit.

I wouldn’t say that i am old as i am 26 but i no good music when i hear it and only a few artist like Beyonc’e and Alicia Keys and a few others can move me with there music like Ms MJB. Mary has that stage presence that only a few acts have that make you completly mesmerized not being amazed by the dancing or pole dance routines i mean the signing Like the Arethas and other legends. Alicia Keys gave me a moment like the greats when i saw her perform “you don’t no my name” on Top Of The Pop ( this was a show that had the biggest chart acts on the show every week) When i first heard her sing that track live i had a feeling like i only get from the greats, not even Beyonc’e has even managed to do that to me ever. Where as Mary has and will never faill to do so yes Mary may no dance around like all the youngsters but she has what they wont have fans still liking there s*** in 20 years time.
