Another day, another Rihanna controversy.
Just weeks after being accused of unlawfully plagiarizing concepts from Cee Lo Green‘s ‘No one’s Gonna Love You‘ visual, today saw the Island beauty come under further fire for the well received music video.
She has been branded a ‘bad role model’ by the Ulster Cancer Foundation for the role they say she plays in endorsing smoking.

According to the Irish charity:
We are very concerned that young people watching the video will see smoking as glamorous and want to copy Rihanna’s behavior.
Artists like her are held in high esteem and regarded as role-models by millions of young people.
Going onto add:
After so much hype around the filming of the video it was very disappointing to see Rihanna so blatantly smoking throughout it.
Three-quarters of adult smokers start the habit as teenagers, which is why it is so irresponsible of her to influence her young fan base in this way.
Here’s the thing:
While some would agree with the UFC’s view that artists like Ms. Fenty are immensely influential and thus should take care not to ‘lead their fans astray’, the age old question remains:
Is it really the job of celebrities to raise children?
Yes, there is little doubt that clips like ‘Love’ glamorize and romanticize smoking, however if all it takes is the media to sway a person into picking up the deadly habit, perhaps the real issue at hand is the lack of backbone and individuality many would agree is exhibited time and time again in modern society.

We Found Love tells a story about a young rebel couple who gets influenced by drugs, s**, alcohol, and other sinful things….she is telling a story about how these things are bad for you…and you shouldnt do them AT ALL !!!!!!! I DONT THINK THAT SHE WOULD BE THAT COLD AND HEARTLESS to promote drugs, cigarettes, and anything else bad in a GOOD WAY !!!!!!!!

As for the Cancer foundation I personally think all foundations who wish to use a single celebrity instance of unharmful misconduct (Rihanna smoking in a video) while ignoring several real life examples ( Adele having to cancel remaining tour dates because of throat issues) are doing themselves and their message a disservice.

I thought the Titanic film was glamorous and romantic, I didn’t charter a boat and hit an iceberg in an attempt to replicate it. Lazy parenting breeds ignorance. It doesn’t take an inhuman effort to make a child understand that seeing something doesn’t mean they have to copy it.
It’s a shame you can focus on the use of drugs/cigs, a reality for many, but not the lesson in the video: it’s negative and leads only to a downfall.

I.agree about its not rihanna job to raise these children BUT for someone like her for to say she wants to be a role model set an example for young women out there and turns around and does the thing she does it doesn’t seem.very sincere on her part. i always hate how people try blaming videos and music for decisions that other people make. everybody who smokes makes that decision, the same with drinking. there are people who like it and people who don’t, videos are not going to make anybody like a cigarette or is it really going to make anybody smoke. it is their own decision to do it, people try to find what ever excuses they can for something that a parent should actually be responsible for.
As much as it’s not a celebrity’s job to raise people’s children, when you choose to be out there in the public eye and your music is trageted towards teens(yes when she first came out they were her traget group); in one form or another what you do, what you say and how you portray yourself does have an effect on the next generation.
No matter how she wants to deny it, I think she should atleast recognise unfortunately that she does have an effect on these children.

I don’t think it was irresponsible in this clip because it showed that “love” is more or less hopeless being in a relationship doing those things , however artist such as herself should take precautions and consideration of their audience when making videos and song concepts because of the fact that who they are and what they do influence many people not all but many people.
