All Hail Queen Mary!
Indeed, the 20 illustrious years of Mary J. Blige‘s career have seen her rise through the ranks to the status she enjoys today – music royalty.
And with the prime driver of this being the warts and all sharing of her life (with her ever-identifying audience), it’s apt that Blige is on the brink of releasing a new album titled ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues’. A sequel of sorts to 1994′s ‘My Life’, this outing sees the Grammy winner in an altogether different space and place.
In one of her only UK interviews this year, the Urban icon talks to That Grape Juice about the LP, her struggles, wanting to commit suicide, collaborating with Beyonce, her thoughts on the “new breed” of R&B females, coaching on The Voice (UK), her next album, and a so much more!
As ever, we ask the questions others won’t. And answer them, a candid, Mary does.

‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act I)’ arrives in stores globally on November 21st

@ lola, bitch go to school !you lack comprehension skills. she said that music is in a bad place right now and listen to what was said after. she said nothing about dance and black chick. Don’t narrow down anything to race. music is music and dance music is not new to the industry idiot. don’t search and dig for props.
Music is def in a bad place and i am sure everyone agrees. Money first!
mary stay true to yourself and all the great singers in music never let their voice go to waste through techno and dance. never. only the once lack the vocal ability, it is easier i guess, and just throw the gimmicks and what to take to credit of being great and talented.

First, congrats to Sam for landing a legend like Mary, But!!!! This interview was awkward as hell… Sam’s voice is terrible, Mary’s facial expressions were unpleasant. Was just so so awkward to me. I don’t like how people are on this anti dance/pop bandwagon. It seem’s like the artists who are negative about it. Are the one’s who failed to secure a hit in that genre of music. Like if you like R&B purchase it. But don’t get angry that 2 million more people would prefer to purchase a dance/pop song. That irritates me. Team Breezy is notorious for trying to diss Usher for his dance/pop hits but cant get enough of Browns flopped dance songs…

I don’t want Mary to ever have a big dance/pop hit, because a) that’s not who she is and b) that’s not what her fans want. She seems to know that and I’m glad. Alienate your core audience for the sake of being trendy for 5 minutes to a bunch of flaky year olds, and your career will come to a screeching halt sooner or later. Usher is alienating and losing respect from his real fans. Those 12-16 white girls and gay boys that like that cheesy thumpa-thumpa crap might buy it today but when they’re not supporting him past the song…and as soon as the tide changes, Usher will be without ANY audience. The pop fans never really cared that much and the R&B fans are now insulted at his trading up.

It’s funny how all the beYAWNcy zombies who praise that weave wearing pole dancing fake pregnancy having b*tch, dogged Mary out, calling her all kinds of names and that she’s washed up etc., now that she has that FAKE B*TCH beYAWNcy on a duet all these beYAWNcy zombies are jumping on how they like Mary and how nice the duet is going to be, PLEASE. You fake one’s are the same ones who dogged Lady GaGa out until beYAWNcy begged her to do a duet so that she can get a number one song off of GaGa, started riding GaGa’s cooch-hole. Then when Adele stole that number one spot for over 8 weeks on the charts, they started calling Adele fat and sweaty fat bitch etc., because she bumped beYAWNcy out of the number one spot only after two weeks. Fake, Fake, Fake. Now that the fake ’4′ didn’t do well on the charts in the U.S. and Adele’s cd has outsold, and outshined and will get Grammy after Grammy, every beYAWNcy fans want to hate on Adele, who has turned out two quality, adult and popular cds, unlike beYAWNcy who is still thinking she is Willow Smiths age. And yes 4 is different from her other child-like material of a cd, it still sucks. With that being said, Mary said beYAWNcy sent her the track with vocals already on there, now she (beYAWNcy) wants Michael Jackson status so the b*tch is looking for any way possible to get her cd’s sold even rereleasing them in deluxe forms, and DVD concerts etc., a total sign of desperation and who in the world puts out a video for every song on a cd if it’s not out of desperation to sell a tired old cd (4). So this track and song she’s sent to Mary she is hoping that it goes number one and that she can get writing credits like she’s taken writing credits for other peoples work in the past. beYAWNcy will never have the status of a real R&B singer like Mary J. Blige who is next in line for the Queen of Soul, behind Whitney Houston but right now Aretha Franklin owns that Crown. Nor will she be the Pop Princess, that title belongs to Janet Jackson – succeeded by Madonna, succeeded by Maraiah Carey, succeeded by Britney Spears succeeded by Rhianna, succeeded by Lady GaGa, depending on the next 5-10 years for the last two artist. So what and who is beYAWNcy? Well professionally, she’s a copy-cat, and a fake fraud who has stolen dance and video choreography, grammys, writing credits etc. Rhianna has more number one’s than beYAWNcy and this is not including the number one’s she had with Destinys Child. As a Solo Artist, Rhianna still holds more number ones, behind Mariah Carey. As far as this interview with Mary J. Blige, these sissies will always look deeper into the interview stating that she was being shady when she made her comment about Ciara, she was merely clearing her throat as she had nothing further to say about Ciara. Mary has too much class to worry about little Miss Pop that coochie Ciara who has not even come close to having as many number one’s as Mary. As far as her clearing her throat, she also did the same throat clearing thing when asked about the type of music she makes @7:52 so her pause on the Ciara question and the pause @7:52 was basically she was done with her statement. Fags, always making things out to be something that it’s not.
Mary is correct when she says music is not what it use to be and Gladys, Patti, Diana all the greats have said the same thing music is not what it use to be it’s about quantity and selling a quick song as oppose to music being about quality. beYAWNcy is guilty of quantity and her music has never been quality and if it is she mixes it up, therefore if u listen to her cd decades from now it will not be nostalgic because it’s not real music, Telephone, Single Ladies, Ego, Diva, all that sh*t has no relevance decades from now. With Mary, you can listen to My Life, and Mary cd and enjoy the quality put into the cds. Do yo thing Mary.

Sorry but dance/pop is corny and repetitive. I’m sick of all this flaky and flighty ‘turn your brain off’ electro/dance/pop crap that the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Gago, LMFAO and Taio Cruz do. It’s cheesy, generic, recycled and has no depth or merit. It sounds like something the kids on Saved By the Bell would try to dance to. I sense a real backlash coming against that silly non-music in 2012, with dance music being ran off the radio and anyone who is known for making being treated as a pariah, and it won’t be a moment too soon AFAIC. Adele is the first affront to it. Hopefully more artists will follow suit and real music and talent will come back, as opposed to all this “microwave popcorn” that Linda Perry accurately described being so everywhere. Mary was right to reject any suggestion that she delve into it, because that junk is ridiculous and isn’t for any artist with talent and/or who wants to be taken seriously. It’s the music of dorks.

Then Saul said, “Thus shall you say to David, ‘The king desires no bride-price except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, that he may be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines. And when his servants told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law. Before the time had expired, David arose and went, along with his men, and killed two hundred of the Philistines. And David brought their foreskins, which were given in full number to the king, that he might become the king’s son-in-law. And Saul gave him his daughter Michal for a wife

I disagree with you. Cassie has proven her lasting influence on the music game, she’s won 6 BET awards. Her album got to #2 on the Billboard Hot R&B charts, Has GaGa ever gotten to #2 on the Hot R&B charts? NO.

Gaga’s going on her fourteenth minute of fame. She’s been in the game only a few months and she’s peaked, I doubt her next album will do very well, the fad is done. Sure she’s won grammies but so do lots of talentless one hit wonders like Lauryn Hill. All grammies mean is that she’s popular, they have nothing to do with how a record sounds. Cassie should’ve gotten those grammies and they know it. Cassie was a megastar from 2006-2009 but since she won seven BET awards which are a better indicator of her popularity as an R&B artist she hasn’t performed well since Gaga stole her style and outfits and Adele is copying her vocal tricks and range and thats why she’s getting surgery because she couldnt handle Cassie’s range and christ knows there is only 1 true QUEEN OF POP and thats Cassie

After that comment you made about Urban music changing for the worse, I am definitely buying My Life II!
Mary, you my girl and I love you for that comment!
She makes such a great point. You got urban acts like Usher who has decided to take quantity over quality just because that’s what sells right now. He used to be quality. You got the Rihanna’s of the world who will just be quantity and the Beyonce’s who are a little bit of both so I’m glad Mary pointed that out!

[...] Mary J. Blige reveals second “My Life II” album and Beyonce collaboration. Mary J. Blige is still gearing up for the release of her upcoming tenth studio album, “My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1)” bu has already revealed that “Act 2” is already on the road map and is intended for release in May of next year. “As far as producers, there’s Danja, Rodney Jerkins, Jerry Wonda, Eric Hudson, Swizz Beatz … and this is only ‘Act I‘” she told That Grape Juice. “There’s another one coming in May, ‘My Life II,’ which is Swizz Beatz, of course Rico Love. And Jim Jonsin’s on this one, and Drake.” As an added treat, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul revealed that a collaborative track with Beyonce will also be included in the second installment of My Life II called “Loving a Woman“. “I didn’t get a chance to work with Beyonce in person. She gave the song to me, it had her complete full vocal on it,” Blige said. “When her people gave it to me, I asked, ‘Are you really giving me this record?’ They said ‘Yes.’ I was like, ‘OK, what do you want me to do with Beyonce’s vocals?’ They were like, ‘She wants to stay on the record.’ That’s how I got that record — she wanted to be on a duet with me.” My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1) will be in stores on November 21. Check out her interview below. [Source] [...]

Yes Mary, make a statement that music needs to return back to quality. I think this year, Mary, Beyonce with 4, and Adele’s album all have shown that music does not need to be that techno watered down radio music. Music needs to return to that.
