Pop icon Whitney Houston sat down with Access Hollywood in an exclusive interview on the set of her latest movie ‘Sparkle’ (also featuring Jordin Sparks). The first time the Grammy-winning diva has made waves on the silver screen in over a decade, she dished on everything from late R&B starlet Aaliyah‘s involvement in the film to her co-stars in this two part interview (airing Monday and Tuesday).
However, fans were particularly happy when reports from earlier this year suggested that ‘Getting To Happy: Waiting To Exhale 2‘ would be in the works featuring prequel co-stars Angela Bassett, Lorretta Devine, and Lela Rochon.
Mum on the topic until now, find out what Whitney had to say about the movie and if she’ll be involved. This and more after the jump:
Your thoughts?

I KNOW YOU ARE A RIHANNA FAN AND ALL, BECAUSE SO AM I & A HUGE ONE AT THAT…….
BUT PLEASE – SHOW A BIT OF RESPECT!!!
SHE MAY HAVE BEEN A CRACK ADDICT & LOST HER “FLAWLESS VOICE”, BUT WHITNEY WAS “THE” FIRST FEMALE AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAINSTREAM ARTIST TO GAIN SUCH UNIVERSAL ACCLAIM AND RECOGNITION, HAS SET A STANDARD WITHIN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY & HAS REVOLUTIONISED WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A “FEMALE SINGER/PERFORMER”.
WITHOUT HER, I DON’T KNOW WHERE MUSIC WOULD BE.
HER PAST IS HER PAST – LETS THANK GOD SHE HASN’T AND WILL NEVER RETURN TO IT.

@ JAKE: “LETS THANK GOD SHE HASN’T AND WILL NEVER RETURN TO IT”
…That’s taking it a bit too far. In reality we don’t know what she will do in the future. It is a day to day process for recovering addicts and they can have a setback at any given time. So to say she will never return to it is crazy when we really have no idea what the future holds for what Whitney. We can only hope and pray for the best and acknowledge the fact that she appears to be doing great at the time of the above interview. Although I think it’s ashame that she abused, took for granted, and possibly permanently destroyed her God given gift in the past, I wish her well because she is one of our legends who set standards and broke barriers. Like she said the entertainment industry is full of ups and downs and all the way arounds, but I hope she can stay positive. Thirty years in the business with many accolades is a major acheivement. Good for her.

PREACH!!! AND NO. I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU’RE SAYING COMPLETELY IN REGARDS TO THAT STATEMENT I MADE…….
BUT WHITNEY IS A GOD-FEARING WOMAN AND HAS BEEN ALL HER LIFE – IT’S JUST SUCH A SHAME THAT SHE GAVE INTO TEMPTATION AND SURRENDERED TOWARDS A NEGATIVE FORCE AND NOT A POSITIVE ONE.
SHE HAS SAID HERSELF THAT “THAT EXPERIENCE” (MEANING, HER DAYS OF TAKING DRUGS) HAS MADE HER A STRONGER PERSON AND SHE FEELS THAT HER RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD HAS DEVELOPED, AND IF SHE TRULY MEANS IT – SHE KNOWS THAT SHE WILL STAND TALL (ALONG WITH GOD) AND BELIEVE IN “THAT” POWER – THEREFORE THERE WILL BE NO NEED FOR HER TO REVERT BACK TO THOSE WAYS. YES, SHE WILL BE TEMPTED AND LURED AT TIMES, BUT IF HER FAITH IS REALLY THAT STRONG, WHY SHOULD SHE FALL AGAIN???

@BowDownBitch, Ain’t you mad that Whitney got it like that; a double threat. Even when she ain’t singing ain’t nobody else singing. Jennifer Hudson got the voice, Clive Davis, and the body so where is her platinum albums? There is nobody out there even close to the voice Whitney has today because them bum bitches ain’t singers even if their voice is clear. Now, you bow down bitch!

Too much hate on this site. I mean what has Whitney personally done against any of you haters? I have always liked Whitney’s personality, charm, voice, and ability. She is older now and her voice is still strong, just not as strong and beautiful as it was two decades ago. Big deal, that is no reason to hate on her like she personally did something wrong to you. Very few divas are like Patti or Aretha…most lose a lot of the strength of their voice over time (for example …Anita, Chaka, Diana, etc).

As long as you have life, there is opportunity. For Whitney, it is movies and yes, singing. Even Madonna can’t make a living as an actor if she were ever prevented from dancing. Only an industry respected icon can do that. Her name is Whitney Elizabeth Houston, who is on that Zsa Zsa and Ava Gabor type of iconic diva appeal. Oh yeah, she will slap a cop and the industry will still love her.

I can not believe that people are even giving rihanna fans any attention that they beg for. Whitney is the QUEEN. She’s an ICON. Sit down and watch the Bodyguard. And her last album wasn’t half bad. She may have a couple problems singing live…..but doesn’t Rihanna lip synch? RIGHT! anyways. When Rihanna gets a range like today’s Whitney, I’ll give her fans some type of life. Until then, lets all keep rooting for Whitney and empower a woman who has had hard times but made it through. Not a young gurl who got her ass beat only to turn around and still have sex with the beater and then come out and publicly say she likes to be tied down and be beat during sex…..

@ Diane, Both Whitney and Madonna are industry respected icons. I hate when someone feels the need to be negative toward one artist in order to speak highly about another artist. Madonna stopped making movies by choice. Like many others she has had her ups and downs in the movie industry but did garner some success with movies like Dick Tracy, A League Of Their Own and Evita. She has enough respect in the industry to pursue that and any other avenue she chooses even if it is behind the scenes in executive production if she felt the need or desire to do so. Although Madonna was never the vocalist that Whitney use to be she is world renowned for being one of the best female entertainers of all time and widely acclaimed by most as the Queen of Pop and by anyone who is honest as a music legend just like Whitney.

@ Tyrone, I have to admit that I agree with your comment when it comes to Rihanna. I can’t believe she is even mentioned on the same post with Whitney. Had to however, speak up against insults about Whitney’s co-diva, Madonna. Both Queens (Whitney and Madonna) have earned their respect and paved the way for women in the industry, but when it comes to Rihanna… I have nothing to say in her defense.

Madonna has respect, power, influence, and most importantly CASH. That’s why like I said even if she has to go behind the scenes and do executive production (which basically just means she fronts the cash) she could do so if she chose to. In other words, besides acting there are other things that Madonna could do so she would be fine either way.

I seriously doubt that hater was a Rihanna fan, more likely a Lamb. Only Lambs are that hateful towards Whitney. They are insecure, pressed cowards hiding camouflaging as a “Rihanna Stan”..
As for Whitney: she has come through the pass of righteousness, and her star beams again. She has ALWAYS had great star power (even in her darkest years); and her stage presence is unmatched. This woman has more star-aura in her smile than most have in their careers!
I am so glad that her image is on the incline. She deserves all of this; she has been in this business for over 30 years (singing back up for Aretha, Stevie etc at the age of 15).
Whitney can still blow, don’t get it twisted

I swear these kids are pathetic. Even Whitney´s last album is better than any of Rihanna´s ones. My God, I´m shocked. Whitney can´t sing nowadays? So can´t Rihanna and she is in her “vocal prime” (just to name in a way those goat noises)
And yes Rihanna fans have really become the officially worst (a year ago Beyonce ones were insufferable). And also, don´t start shit cos I´m a Mariah fan and Whitney is a goddess to me. The two last vocal icons. Enough said

The reason I said it is a Lamb in a Rihanna-stan disguise, is because it would look utterly stupid for an actual Rihanna stan to criticize anyone’s voice, when Rihanna’s voice is as limited as a 2 year old’s

@BOWDOWNBITCH: You must be a 13 year old, who clearly don’t know real music period. 1. If it wasn’t for Whitney, do you think, all the Pop & R&B music will be around in the 80′s, 90′s and the 2000′s? You sound like a damn ass fool. Let me tell you something.
1. Rihanna has no growth in her music. Name one that she made something inspiring and makes you think?
2. Did you ever see Whitney sell her body to sell records?
3. Does Rihanna have the voice?
Sorry THAT IS A DAMN NO!!! I can’t stand these little kids who don’t know shit about music and how the icons made a path for the artists that are out right now thinking that they are irrelevant or has been’s. Also too some of these artists lack the respect to the ICONS IN THE GAME!!! I’m sorry if Whitney brings out classic album, DAMN RIGHT I WILL BUY THAT- BECAUSE SHE HAS TRUE TALENT AND SHE IS AN ICON!!! YOUNGIN DO SOME REAL RESEARCH ON THE HISTORY OF HER MUSIC BEFORE OPENING YOUR YAP ABOUT SHE’S A HAS BEEN. LET ME BREAK IT DOWN TO YOU- RIHANNA HAS FALLEN OFF , SHE WILL BE GONE BY 2012. SHE HAS NO SONGS THAT PEOPLE GO BACK TO LISTEN TO!! TILL THIS DAY I STILL LISTEN TO WHITNEY FIRST ALBUM AND THAT WAS 1985- THAT IS A SUBSTANCE!!! I STILL LISTEN TO THE BODYGUARD, YOUR LOVE IS MY LOVE, WAITING TO EXHALE, I’M YOUR BABY TONIGHT. WHERE’S RHIANNA? SMH. SHE’S GONE BY NEXT YEAR.
