Little Mix Shoot Straight to #1 With ‘Cannonball’

Published: Sunday 18th Dec 2011 by Sam

Make that two happy Sunday’s for X Factor stars Little Mix. For, exactly a week after winning the UK version of the show, Jade, Perrie, Jesy, and Leigh-Anne have more cause to celebrate – their debut single ‘Cannonball’ has rocketed to #1 on the Official UK Singles Chart.

Full story after the jump…

A cover of Damien Rice‘s track of the same name, ‘Ball’ unsurprisingly becomes the ladies first chart-topper, after selling 210,129 copies.

Interestingly, the feat sees the Pop outfit earn the title of fastest selling debut single of the year in the UK; yet the figure also sees the song serve as the second-worst selling X Factor winner’s single since the show started seven years ago.

A sign of the times, perhaps? Or an indication that their hype is just that – hype? Who knows. However, a  number 1 is a number 1 and no doubt serves as the best of springboard’s for the group.

Congratulations! Although we should be saying that to the real winner here – their label, Simon Cowell’s SyCo – who, once again, are stacking their coins. Even more so this week, after fellow X Factor winner Leona Lewis scored the next highest entry with ‘Hurt’, which respectfully charted at #8.

    Enjoy the short time success while it last girls, with in the new year and 6 months down the line, no one will care, call me harsh but Little Mix ain’t the best X Factor winners by a long shot, what a good thing they have Perrie because other then the one good singer, they are nothing but hype.

    The UK singles chart is usually a big mess. How can these x factor wannabes always get pointless #1´s. I know singles charts are f***** up all over the world. But really being succesful cos of these type of karaoke shows… it doesn´t happen anywhere else anymore.
    @jayscorpio
    Thank U for that list. At least for buying albums they have better taste. It´s clear Madonna and Celine Dion have had the logest impact in the UK seeing the number of albums they have in the top 50. Also Whitney and Tina Turner did great. Congrats to Adele that´s amazing having the best selling album by a female ever in the UK and in the illegal downloading era
