The last week of December will see Billboard release the final Year End Chart for the period December 2010 to November 2011.
Expected to confirm that Adele‘s ‘21‘ is the highest selling release of the year, this year has seen the chart anticipated like never before with the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Lil Wayne and ‘The Throne‘ all making major moves their respective projects within the last twelve months.
However, it would seem despite the intense competition it faced this year, one album in particular has managed to exceed sales expectations in a way many thought it never would.
Nicki Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday‘.

With over 1,663,349 sold in the US since its release last November, the Rap czar’s debut album will without a doubt chart in the top ten of this year’s list, ranking behind GaGa‘s ’Born This Way‘ with 1,948,914 units sold and Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter IV‘ with over 1,752,000 shifted since its release in Augst.
Quite interestingly, even without a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, ‘Friday‘ has outsold releases by both Chris Brown and Rihanna, both of whom enjoyed numerous successes on the singles chart.
For, with Brown’s ‘F.A.M.E’ moving a less than stellar 781,000 units since its March 2011 release and Fenty’s ‘Loud‘ racking up sales of 1,547,300, neither of these records were able to best the commercial success that was Minaj’s debut effort.
Elsewhere, Beyonce‘s ‘4′ is expected to be the highest selling R&B project of the year, shifting 941,000 copies in the country since June,while Drake‘s ‘Take Care’ readies to chart impressively with over 900,000 copies moved since it hit stores three weeks ago.

She did all she could and netted up with 6mill+ worldwide, so I say she did exceptionally well.

Oh Sam you so obvious at this point it’s ridiculous! What was the point of even mentioning Chris Brown & Rihanna’s name in the same title?! Why the hell are you comparing albums that have been out for over a YEAR to an album that was just released this year?! You love baiting people for stan wars don’t you?! Nicki as well as Rihanna’s albums came out LAST year, so they had months ahead of FAME to get sales and Nicki & Rihgoat obviously are females who appeal to mainstream ( and gays who are the most suportive fanbase there is) so platinum isn’t a hard feat for them. Not to mention Nicki has collaborated with every artist under the sun this year so it’s obvious why her album was more successful.
Chris is clearly still demonized by the media and his stunt on GMA didn’t help him at all. ‘LAMN’ was really Chris’ only crossover hit that appealed to mainstream this year, everything else was a hit on the r&b/rap charts and well all know the urban market is the less supportive of their artist. Chris is the top selling male r&b artist this year and after ’4′, FAME is the second hightest selling r&b album. His sells could be better, but could have chosen better singles. *shrugs*
Anywho, congrats to Nicki I guess, even though she is a gimmicky aritst who clearly marketed herself as a ‘black Lady Gaga’ to appeal to mainstream. I don’t want to say she sold out, but she sold out, to appeal to white folks & gays to sell albums. Its obvious! Her & Lil Weasel are so over rated it’s ridiculous! I don’t care how many albums they sell, they certainly don’t live up to the hype. Just look at their performances. Enough said!
